bug. Using Pro*C is the best way to die.

I have Pro*C code in operation on Linux that refreshes snapshots
(replication) across the wide area every morning at 1am.
I also use it as the backend for fixed field lookups, such as
looking up someone's contact info by last name. It's fast in
this role.
Pro*bug?
Does it take getting used to? Sure. 'twas hard for me. I
actually altered the existing makefile quite a bit to get the
results I wanted.
Pro*Death?
Is it the best way to die?
Nah. Someone could force you to use Microsoft SQL server
instead.

Scaling bug, Pro Res 422 codec
So I've come across a rather unique bug, that has cropped up a few months back when our company switched over from Premiere Pro CC to Premiere Pro CC 2014. I suspect it has something to do with the new "set to frame size" feature, when you right click a clip within the timeline.
When scaling footage in the effects panel, if the scale is not set to above 50.0, the clip will display zoomed in in the program monitor on playback and also in the rendered video file after export. However, on pause, the clip will shows up at scale. Please see images below.

This seems to only happen with files round-tripped from our colour grading program. Relevant information about the files is below.

•4k resolution (4096 * 2160)I'm having the same scaling issues with ProRes files. When I bring in the original R3D files, they scale down fine. I tried ProRes 422 HQ and ProRes 4444 and had the same issues. I was rendering out the ProRes files out of AE. No color correction done yet.

Hello,i have a retina with Mountain Lion.I have logic PRO 7 and logic Pro 8 ,with G5.I can't use the CD with the retina!!It's not a powerpC!!How do i install Logic Studio 8 with Mountain Lion successfully ?too évolution Logic PRO 9?
The installer for Logic Pro 8 has a bug which keeps it from operating in Lion or Mt. Lion. Use the program Pacifist to install it.

I've taken a break from book design, layout, and publishing since finishing 10 books 2 years ago (Kalavinkapress.org). But now I'm back into the thick of it with a another flock of long-doc books in my lap.
Result, I'm now faced with upgrading my IDCS3 & Acrobat 7 Pro. (I'm still OK with my P-shop & Illustrator versions), but am utterly clueless about the advisability of Acro X Pro over the still-available Acro 9 Pro. (I've seen some fairly loud squeaking about X Pro problems.)It depends a bit on what you're going to use it for. I do mostly forms work and have both versions, but do most of my work with Acrobat 9, and even use Acrobat 7 for some things. There are some initial bugs with Acrobat 10 that need to be worked out, but I'd probably recommend it for most folks.

How do I get internet on both my Mac Pro and my macbook pro at the same time?
Both are running 10.6.8 operating systems.
There is one ethernet jack in my office. The mac pro does not have a wireless card.
I want to use internet on my macbook pro from the mac pro. I'm thinking internet sharing through ethernet cord (ethernet cord from wall to mac pro, then second ethernet cord from mac pro to macbook pro), or via firewire. Both methods tell me on my macbook pro that I am connected to the internet but when I try to use the internet it fails.
Is this an ip address problem? how do I change that?
suggestions? maybe there is a better way to do this?

A Apple Airport Extreme router is easy to setup and has extra ports on the back for Ethernet to the MacPro.
This way you'll have Wifi and can take the MacBook Pro anyplace in range and use it, instead of burning up that Firewire port and being on a leash.
You could be having IPv6 issues with the MacBookPro if it's on a later version of OS X.
Look under your network > Advanced TCIP and turn off IPv6, reboot. -
I am going to buy a macbook pro for grade 12, and I need to know wheather I should get a macbook pro or a macbook pro retina. If someone could tell me (in a very simple way) which one is,better for me and why, I would be ever so apprreciative.
Why do you need a expensive MacBook Pro?
Your attending high school and unless everyone else is rich also your likely going to be a target by the more poorer students for theft or damage to the machine.
You could keep it home, but if you need it for class then your exposed again.
Also at that age your not very careful yet, a MacBook Pro is a expensive and easily damaged machine.
Unless your made of money and so are others at your school, I would recommned a low profile, just does the job cheap Windows PC.
If it dies, gets lost, stolen or damaged because of your inexperince handling senstivie electronics then it's no big deal.
You can buy a Mac later on when your sure you have a need for it, currently there isn't much advantage of owning a Mac compared to a PC, they do just about the same things now, one just looks prettier than the other.
Since 95% of the world uses Windows PC's your going to have to install Windows on the Mac in order to keep your skills up there or be unemployed, so it's a extra headache and expense.

Windows XP Pro Running on MacBook Pro
With the MacBook Pro's running on Intel processors, can the MacBook Pro run Windows XP Pro? I love my Mac (currently a 15" G4, before that a Wall Street) but my work requires running applications that work on Windows. Virtual PC use to be descent but now is a real drag. Running native Windows would be such a win-win for me. I don't even mind switching OS's during start up. Any one out there try this? Can it be done?

As far as I know :Apple VP Phil Schiller said today there are no plans to sell or support Windows on an Intel-based Mac. "That doesn't preclude someone from running it on a Mac," he said. "They probably will." However, Schiller said Apple does not plan to let users run Mac OS X on PCs. "We will not allow running Mac OS X on anything other than an Apple Mac." successfully installing Windows XP on an Intel iMac, you would need to get by the EFI issue, and require extensive hacking.
I have seen a website offering a reward for whomever can do this, but the prize money is still waiting to be claimed.

WIndows 8 system is on mSata SSD 57,4GB is free on SSD.
Laptop probably freezed during upgrade to 8.1 (from MS store today) after asking if I want to store photos on Skydrive, screen
was clear I waited one hour and manually switched laptop off.

There are no drivers for the CD/DVD drive. They should have been installed automatically by Windows. -
Upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro from Windows 8 Pro causing issues with Remote Server Administration Tools
Last night I received the Windows 8.1 update and it has caused Remote Server Administration Tools to stop working. I tried to reinstall the tools using Windows8.1-KB2693643-x64.msu but get the following error:

I did have the Remote Server Administration Tools installed previously when I was running windows 8 pro and everything was fine. I've tried to remove the older version but according to the below it isn't even installed and Remote Server Administration

I’ve seen this issue in the past and it occurred because the file was corrupted.
It’s possible that something went wrong when downloading it originally on your newly upgraded machine.
Try downloading
KB2693643 again from another machine and install it.

You might need to tell me whether you are running Windows 8 RT or Windows 8 pro on your Surface pro.
If it is a Microsoft Surface RT running Windows 8 RT - then you cannot install Acrobat

H.264 video should be supported by your basic Snow Leopard operating system. The DVCPRO HD family of codecs is part of the Apple "Pro" codecs package which is normally installed as part of a "Pro" video editing suite installer or contemporaneously installed separately as part of one of the newer pro editing apps like FCPX. if you already have one of these pro suites or apps installed or available, then re-install the correct codec package that is missing. If not, you will need to purchase a Pro suite or app to be able to install the required codec package. -
Advice/opinion on upgrading Pro 9000 II to Pro 10 or maybe Pro 1
Hi everybody - opinions welcomed please.
I currently run 2 x Pro 9000 Mk IIs and 1 x HP Designjet Z2100 44" (this runs exactly the same ink and printheads as the HP B9180 but a lot bigger).
I do a lot of printing for design and art students from the local university. Their work usually consists of a mixture of flat pale colour/grey, vivid photos, bad photos, design graphics, text .. everything on one A3 page .. many hundreds of different pages in their busy times. Predominantly on smooth white matte photo paper.
I mainly use the 9000s for these but have always struggled with the 'magenta warm' appearance of the prints, especially on pale grey backgrounds and yellows. I experimented with many papers and have heeded the huge amount of advice on the 9000 being too warm, but have decided that I need to change.
For pure greyscale, I always use the Z2100 which is beautifully neutral, but it struggles a bit when it comes to some colours not 'popping'. It is also very slow and laborious to load single sheets.
Reading around the subject, the Pro 100 looks to have similar warm issues.
The Epson 3000 is an option, but am running very scared of clogging and wasted ink on swapping matte and photo papers.
So, for mainly but not always matte photo paper, would I be better served by the Pro 10 or maybe Pro 1? Quality-wise, the Pro 10 would definitely suffice. My concerns being that 1) The prints may still be a bit warm 2) The pigment ink would be rather dull on matte paper.
I so SO wish that HP had upgraded the B9180 with a better range of colours, similar to the Z3200!
