PRO CAMERA SUPPORT

Hello, the nikonians have an interesting tread about national geographics mag and the cameras being used by their pro photographers. it seems the pros like the nikon D70 and D200 because of their size. now these photographers are pros in any difinition so how can they use aperture when apple fails to support these and other so called prosumer cameras ?? does apple really understand the photography market ??? Michael

The problem here is that Nikon has decided to enncryp the XML data with a different key for every camera... It takes time to workout the details with Nikon.
But that does not excuse Apple from negociating things and getting RAW releases sooner. This is the new name of the game in digital photography.
PhaseOne, iView, PS, LightRoom, DxO - even bible and photo mechanic support the D200 now... Some one tell me that Apeture is not the last software to support the camera! RAW support should be a lot faster than this in the future. If Apple is not pluged in like the others in the camera manufacturing industry to get insight on new camera releases then they can't be a pro software. Its a hard take but a real one in todays market. You are either in, or out.

You need to tell us which exact file format the camera's files are in.  In other words, what is the file extension?

  • HELP: I have an impossibly long rendering time after converting .MP4 files from Go Pro Camera to .MOV on Final Cut Pro 7. PLEASE ADVISE.

I am working on a project and shot guerilla style footage with a Go Pro camera, which produced .MP4 files incompatible with FCP7. When I converted the files to .MOV, I realized the rendering time in the sequence editor is impossibly long. I am working with a deadline and the rendering time exceeds the deadline, let alone editing time. Suggestions???

Telling us you converted to .mov doesn't tell us much. MOV is a container that supports a very wide range of codecs. It is the specific CODEC that matters.
You most likely did not convert the material to a FCP7 native format. ProRes is recommended and, given the compression of the GoPro, ProRes LT would be the best choice.
Use Compressor to convert everything to ProResLT and life will be much simpler.

  • Nokia Pro Camera App Problems

I am on EE and finally got the Pro Cam App last night when I got the Amber Update for my Lumia 920. I have two problems with it:
    1) Everytime I take a picture, the image I've taken is displayed on the screen and doesn't go away, I have to return to the camera. This is quite a annoying if I'm taking a series of images.
    2) This is a real deal breaker - everytime I take a picture it looks great then seconds later a yellowish hue is applied and the whole image is softened. It takes great vibrant pictures and then ruins them with some awful image processing after the picture has been taken! Is this happening to everyone else?

As 808PV no longer manufactured and Symbian in "maintenance mode" it ain't going to happen.

  • Nokia Pro Cam photos post-processing makes yellowi...

Hello there! I'm here to report a common problem which happens while taking pics with Nokia Pro Cam on my lumia 920. When you take a pic it has right colours and is very sharp but after apps' post-processing the pic turns yellowish and a bit softer. It doesn't look too good after that treatment. I'm asking for patch that would prevent this problem. While I was at Windows Phone central-forums I saw that I'm not alone with this issue.
There is photos when one can see this issue.
First is just after taking pic and second is after processing it. I guess one can see very clear difference.

When I take a picture with manual focus, in the screen the pic looks sharp, but when i open the gallery, it changes (wll, postprocesses) to blurry

  • Lumia 1020 pro cam just keeps taking photos when y...

On my att 1020 if you try to take a picture in the pro cam app using the camera button on the side of the phone it will keep taking photos untill you back out of the application. Works fine if you use the onscreen button to take the shot. The camera button works fine in windows(opens the pro cam app). It also works fine in the built in windows camera app. This problem happens using either camera in the pro cam app. The steps I've taken so far in order(phone was up to date on the auto updates at the beginnning:
Power cycled the phone(held power and told it to shut down)
Reset the camera in the pro cam app
Uninstalled the pro cam app and downloaded it from the app store
Did a factory reset of the phone and tried again.
Ran the updates and tried again.
I called AT&T's support to see if they had any ideas and they didn't. The twitter support for nokia was a wash as well. Has anyone on here seen this before and have any ideas?

Not sure if this is the cause but ...Open Nokia Pro Cam and tap Options (...) .. Confirm that 'Bracketing' is not enabled..
(I enabled it and then did Reset the Camera settings.. still it was ON .. It got disabled only when I selected to Cancel it ..)

  • Pro camera update on Lumia 1020

    Hi all
Just downloaded the pro camera update for the Lumia 1020 and am impressed,  Macro seems considerably better,  if you switch to macro mode they seem to fixed the issue where it popped out of focus,  it also seems a lot faster to shoot as well.
One slight gripe I have is that I can't find any release notes for the new app, I want a list of what's been fixed and what's been added but I can't find anything apart from the little demo when you start it up.  But I want detail lots and lots of lovely techy detail.
Also saw the tweet about RAW support coming after Christmas...awesomeness continues...

    Hi all,
When I did the update for my Lumia 1020 from Pro Cam to "Nokia Camera" I lost the ability to zoom & reframe images.
Did they change the way they save reframed images or are other people experiencing the same issue?
    Thanks,
    Alex in Canada

  • RAW Camera Support

On an otherwise big news day for Aperture users, Apple has let down the Leica community once again by not including RAW camera support for the M9 rangefinder. Leica provided M9s to Apple back in September, and Apple should have had more than enough time to include RAW support for the M9 in Aperture 3. Many pro photographers and Leica owners are mac owners, and expect more of Apple. Come on Apple, please deliver the goods.

Aperture 2.0 does read M9 DNG / RAW files, but it does not support the M9 with a camera specific RAW profile. Instead, it applies the RAW profiles Apple created for Leica's M8 and M 8.2. The results are OK, but with the M9's full frame sensor, they fall far short of what would be achieved with an M9 specific RAW profile that reads the M9's internal configuration data. Apple has had M9s from Leica since September, when the M9 was introduced. The expectation of M9 and mac owners has been that by now, Apple would have developed a specific RAW profile for and supported the M9. Without such support, many M9 owners have been taking a pass on Aperture, and Aperture 1.0 and 2.0 owners will surely not upgrade to Aperture 3 without an M9 profile.

  • Will Premiere Pro CC support Cinema DNG files?

Will Premiere Pro CC support Cinema DNG files?

That would be nice, but my guess is that if support was built in, Adobe would have made mention of it as a new feature.
Given that Blackmagic is releasing a $1000 DC camera that records CinemaDNG to SD cards, it sure would be nice if PP cold work with them natively.  People, please keep filing that feature request.

  • 60% of the cameras 'supported' in 3.2 that take video use AVCHD

Of the cameras purported to be newly supported in LR 3.2, 8 shoot video. Of those 8, 5 use the AVCHD codec (and one of the remainders doesnt shoot HD). The 5 that use AVCHD include the LX5 and the Sony Nex cameras, both likely to be popular as compact cameras for those who normally use a DSLR.
It seems a bit silly and shortsighted that Lightroom doesnt support AVCHD, when it is rapidly becoming the most popular format. Even the newest cameras that Adobe is trying to develop support for, the majority use a format that LR ignores.
The problem will only get worse, as Nikon is reputed to be using AVCHD in its new DSLRs.
At the very least perhaps new announcements could specifiy whether or not the full camera is supported, because when you tout video as a key selling feature of LR3 one might assume that a claim of supporting that camera would include more then just still images.

    Thronsen wrote:
If you dont want video in lightroom, not sure why you are clicking on this thread.
I want lightroom to work properly, where on earth did you get the idea I did not want video?
Thronsen wrote:But just as a basic point of education, its alot more then 5 cameras that use AVCHD. Its 5 cameras just out of the 8 that LR recently supported.
You mentioned 5, I am now more educated, thank you for that apologies to the other manufacturers of those cameras, I have shot video for many many years, but using professional equipment for TV, commercials and documentaries, I am not yet as familiar using with DSLR's to shoot video, compression is always an issue and ACHD does cause ugly artefacts, but it is plenty better than many of the prosumer  codecs.
If you dont want to use your camera for video, thats up to you. But many people do, in fact apparently the highest growth segment of DSLR purchses are video people.
I can't wait to get the new Canon 3D with even better video support than the 7D, Cant wait to use video commercially in the shoots I do.
And Im pretty sure the LR staff, or at least Adobe disagrees with you. Video was one of the most important changes highlighted in virtually every piece of marketing material I saw. On the main LR page it was listed 3rd.
I"m sure lightroom working properly was the 1st, I was talking about priorities.
Finally, please dont make the same tired argument about how tough it would be to implement editing.
so, its easy to write Final Cut Pro 7 for lightroom is it? Barely a tired argument.
All most want is the ability for LR to import the videos (so we dont need 2 programs to do so), show a thumbnail (so we can see our videos mixed with our photos from the same shoot), and hand off the video to the OS or chosen player. All of which is already done by LR for other formats (and all of which is done for free by Windows 7 natively).
That was my list of questions I asked you,
"And anyway, what do you want to be able to do with AVCHD? edit? record? Store? Playback?"
Is that not a fair question to ask you?
I simply asked a couple of very pertinent questions, and I can read and write to any post I want to. I did not expect to get some kind of bullish  response.

The Mid-2007 model didn't come out until June 2007, so you must have bought an earlier model. It won't run Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x), but it might run Lion (10.7.x) if you can get hold of a copy, depending on which earlier model it is.
Lion requires at least a Intel Core 2 Duo processor. The first MacBook Pros came out in January 2006, but they had "Core Duo" processors (no "2"). The Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros came out in October 2006. You could have bought either in March 2007.
