Pro*Cobol for Oracle 10g Express Edition is available?
Hi to all, this is my first post here.
I evaluating Cobol to Oracle products and I have find one it´s more
We installed Oracle 10g Express Edition (Server and Client), to test compatibility of a Cobol product.
This product requires the "rtsora" component, from Pro*Cobol, but we didn´t find it in any place in the instalation packages.
The documentation show the precompilers to be at $ORACLE_HOME/precomp but there is only two folders (admin and lib) with "ottcfg" files. Nothing more
Searching this and anothers foruns, I became to think if the precompilers facilities, like Pro*Cobol, may be available to the 10g Express Edition for Linux, OR, if this is a feature available only to the Standart Editions (or Windows)?
The instalation and users manuals appears to don´t distinguish the 10g standart from the Express Edition. Also, the Express Edition doesn´t ask for any kind of "customization oprtions" as I read about in another topics.
Edited:
1 - We are using this on Linux Ubuntu.
2 - The Windows 10g Express Edition appears to be more complete, but I need to run this on Express Edition.
Thanks in advance!
(sorry bad english)
There is no official communication on 11G express edition release date .
You will have to wait and watch Oracle Official website for that .

Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 3 ODBC Driver Always Crashes
I find that if you set up an ODBC Data Source for Oracle 10g Express Edition on Windows XP SP2 using the "Oracle in XE" driver, anything that tries to access it will crash, even the Windows ODBC Data Source Administratior if you click the "Test Connection" button.
Having clicked the button, you get a window coming up entitled "Oracle ODBC Driver" with a yellow exclamation mark in it, with no other text in the window except for an OK button.
If you press OK, then it crashes and goes through the "Please tell Microsoft about this problem" process....Hi,
Thanks for your comment, but I can't get onto the XE forum.
I found http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/forum.html which says:
Forum registration is possible only by downloading and installing Oracle Database XE. After installation, click on the "Registration" link from the Database homepage.
However I find that the "Database Homepage" does not exist.
Choosing the Oracle XE "Go To Database Home Page" takes my browser to http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex which is not available even though my oracle server is running and sqlplus can talk to it.
There's definitely nothing serving on tcp port 8080, as follows:
[dcampbel@clevo]~> telnet localhost 8080
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

Oracle 10g Express Edition for OCP 10g Upgrade Certification
Hi
Can I use Oracle 10g Express edition to prepare for Oracle 10g Release 2 new features exam.
Thanks,
JamesFor exam/certification disscussions, I suggest the [Certification forum|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459].
By preparation I assume you refer to the topics of the [1Z0-040 exam|http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_org_id=1001&lang=US&p_exam_id=1Z0_040#3].
For "strictly self-educational purposes", take a look at the OTN downloads license and consider using EE (or PE perhaps) install, supposed you need full features for the managebility stuff, tuning advisors, partitioning, RMAN functionality, etc.

OS-Authentication for a Oracle 10g Express Edition
I want to use OS-Authentication for an Oracle 10g Express Edition. What value must be set in sqlnet.ora ? Where are the possible authentcation modes described ? I only found the description KERBEROS5.
I tryed the value all, but with all no connect is possible.
Tanks for help
Josef Springer>
Thanks for your link.
A special username with prefix is needed. This user must be created for external authentication. This user must be known by the OS. Am i right ?
>Right.
>
As i understand, to login with OS-Authentication i need a new windows user. This is not usable, because my users have their login and do not want to use another, when working with the database.
Is there another way to use OS-Authentication ?As far as I know, this is not possible especially with Oracle XE which has not all features of Entreprise Edition.
>
Must the prefix be used in any case ?
>You can have an empty prefix: you should use OS_AUTHENT_PREFIX init. parameter http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14237/initparams147.htm#REFRN10152 -
Download Oracle 10g express edition for window
I want to download Oracle 10g Express Edition, but it seems that this version is replaced by 11g Express version.
Is there any place which I can download 10g Express Edition?
Thank.I think Oracle Corp. has removed 10g XE download because Oracle Corp. is pushing more for 11g now (10g XE was never officially supported but 10.1 and 10.2 Standard/Entreprise Edition are already in extended support mode: 10.2 will be in sustained support mode in July 2013).

Not installing Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 2
Hi,
I am in problem to install Oracle 10g Express Edition Beta 2 on Windows 2000 Pro. I have download OracleXE.exe but when i am double clicking on it, it is not working. What are the problems? Please help me
DulalHello,
Oracle 10g XE is rather specific and, I'm not sure that you can upgrade it to 10.2.0.4 .
However, Oracle published an Upgrade Guide for Oracle Express Edition but, it's limited to *10.2.0.3*:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B25329_01/doc/server.102/b32391/toc.htm
But be careful:
Once you have upgraded to Oracle Database 10g, you cannot downgrade back to Oracle Database Express Edition.Hope this help.
Best regards,
Jean-Valentin

MSAccess 2003-plugin-Oracle 10g Express Edition
Hello!
Say, I've read a few posts on people who seem to have this similar problem about the MSAccess plugin. However, I have this situation and I'm still getting the 'Plugin not being found' error message...
I have Windows XP Pro SP2 and MSAccess 2003 and using the Oracle 10g Express Edition.
I have downloaded and unzipped the 'omwb.zip' file into: C:\omwb1010 - directory. After this unzip, I have downloaded the MSAccess.zip file into the C:\omwb1010\omwb\plugins - directory, 'saving' it as MSAccess.jar. I then go to the 'bin' directory and run the omwb.bat file. I enter the appropriate information for the 'Oracle Database Repository'. I use 'SYSTEM' for the 'Username' (is this correct or do I use something like the 'HR' that is already created?). When I click 'OK', the 'Plugin' error message pops up!
Where am I going wrong??
Thanks in advance...!!
Dan...Hello!
In thinking about my problem here... Since I have WIN XP Pro SP2 installed, I don't need to install the MDAC file. But, is the OMWB bat file checking the 'drivers' folder under the omwb\ directory for the driver and Not where the WIN XP Pro SP2 put it...? This 'stuff' is new to me and so IF this is the case, I assume I would need to copy this driver from its current location and paste it to this 'drivers' folder. So, where would I go look for this 'driver' to copy??
Thanks in advance...!! -

yaa i'm sure about that .
i want one more instance of database. Can you perhaps explain why? I have a fair share of production and development servers - and not a single one of them needs to run more than one database instance.
So I'm interested in what requirement you are trying to satisfy by using two database instances on a single platform.
Oh yeah - if you want to create a custom XE instance (different SID, different tablespace sizes, more/less PL/SQL stuff installed, hack standard), make a copy of your XE db creation script (in your XE's +$ORACLE_HOME/bin+ and called createdb.sh ) and modify that for your needs.
PS. even with a different SID, only a single XE instance can be run at a time - you can however have 2 different ones defined and then use one at a time (e.g. testing international settings, init param differences, etc.) -

Oracle 10g Express Edition presentation
Hi everybody,
I'm an Italian university student and I have to make a presentation about Oracle 10g Express Edition for an exam. The points of this presentation will be:
- Portability
- Compatibility with SQL92 standard
- Interfaces
- Installation and hardware resources
- Costs and license
- Security
- Performance
I'm very new in the Oracle world, can anyone help me or suggest sites where I can retrieve the information I need.
ThanksSi offende qualcuno o semplicemente capisce meno gente? Penso più la seconda, ma mi sembra più "educato" usare l'inglese, in modo che tutti capiscano.
Translation :
I think it would be more correct using English, so that everyone can understand.
