Pro license, version numbers, and upgrades

I don't currently have a QT Pro license, but I have considered it to finally have a tool that does an honest simple rotate. My concern, however, is regarding patch updates to QuickTime invalidating my key. My question then is how specific is the license? I have 7.4.1 (14). If I buy a QT Pro key, and QT/QTPlayer 7.4.2 is pushed out through Software Update with a new version of iTunes, do I have to choose between keeping QT Pro and installing the update (having to rebuy QT Pro)?

So, I go online and buy the key for QT pro. I have the version 7 something of the free QT program. I go to system profiler and click ont he QT icon. I register my name and the key exactly as it is contained in the email that they sent me. It always tells me it's an invalid registration key. ***!?!? I've done this several times, it's not hard to do so why isn't it working? they took my $31 for the upgrade without any problems and now I'd like to use the dumb software upgrade!

No, that 10.6.3 DVD is system specific to the MacBook Pro.

10.1.2.3 app server, xml, and Module version="101020300" and upgrade=yes

We upgraded our app server from 10.1.2.2 to 10.1.2.3. I converted some of our Oracle Forms to xml before upgrading. I noticed the following "Module version" element and value? What version of Oracle Forms is this 10.1.0.2 , 10.1.2.2, or 10.1.2.3. When I add upgrade=yes on the compile line the fmb file dates do not change and the xml version tag stays the same in unix. Whenver I do this on windows the files dates of the fmbs do change, but the version tag also stays the same. Is it possible the 10.1.2.3 compiler uses 10.1.0.2 version for fmbs and knows there is nothing to change so it leaves the fmb untouched when upgrade=yes?

Although the "upgrade" option does not throw an error, it really doesn't apply any longer. It was used historically to convert SqlForms to Forms Menu Modules. Here is the text from the Forms Online help for this option:
Upgrades modules from Oracle Forms 4.5, or from SQL*Menu 5.0, to an Oracle Forms menu module.You gain nothing from including "upgrade=yes" when you compile your 10.1.2 modules.
Regarding the Module version you see in the XML or FMT, this version represents the engine used to create the module and not the Forms version. This version will not necessarily line up with the Forms version to which you are accustom to viewing. This is more of an internal reference. Your form's modules will not change in any way when you patch from 10.1.2.0 to 10.1.2.2 to 10.1.2.3. This is why there is generally no need to recompile when you patch. The changes are made in our product and not your app.

JDeveloper version numbers and OC4J version numbers

Hi all,
I know that the version numbers of the Oracle application server and the OC4J plugin are the same the default, but how is that with JDeveloper compared to the OC4J version of the embedded JDeveloper application server.
Is it the same always and if not where can I find a mapping table. E.g. is for JDeveloper version 10.1.3 also the OC4J container version 10.1.3 etc.

yes, Oracle JDeveloper versions are in synch with OC4J and 10.1.3 JDeveloper uses OC4J 10.1.3.

PhotoShop install - versions 1 and upgrade to 2

I upgraded to Leopard, and did a total erase and install.
I tried to install my Photoshop 1, and my upgrade to 2, and there seems to be no way to do this.
I can't afford CS3.
Any thoughts - or kiss the money goodbye (I bought 1&2 about 3 months ago).

CS1 won't work with Leopard, and even though I had CS2 loaded, it didn't work well at all when I got into the more advanced features and there were other little problems. I only got it to work because I did an update where it was already loaded on Tiger when I updated. There are some issues with CS3 as well, although not severe and they are about to come out with an update.
I doubt that they will do much if anything for the older versions. I use CS3 and have had no real issues, but if you go to Adobe's web site you will find their comments on CS3 and their commitment to fixing all this good stuff. Right now it's a finger pointing thing between Apple and Adobe.

What are the major release version numbers and what versions are not considered major releases?

I manage a QA team that tests websites in all major browsers. I need to know what versions of Firefox are considered major releases and which versions are just incremental or minor updates. With new versions being released almost every month, I can't afford to test on the latest 6 versions for my projects, so I need to make an educated decision as to what the major releases are and determine this on a regular basis.

The ESR is a Extended Support Release channel (meant more for Enterprise users in mind) where it is currently 17.0.3esr (released when 19.0 was) and will only get allowed security and stability updates until oh some twelve weeks after 24.0 release where a new ESR version will be based on 24.0 release as 24.0esr.

X is the Major release while the * are the chemspill updates if it was deemed important (Usually for security or a crash/regression issue for example) and cannot wait for the next release. These Major versions are released without intending to have updates as for example the Firefox 11.0 and 12.0 releases never had updates.

Help! Just bought first ever Mac (MacBook Pro OS version 10J4139) and it keeps forcing me to restart?

I bought my first ever Mac about two weeks ago and am already having trouble. Can't seem to get it to turn on suddenly. I had left my Mac in sleep mode charging and when I opened it up, I got a message that said I had to shut down and restart. Now when it boots up I get a screen that says "panic (CPU 0 caller 0xfffff8000223c0e): spinlock acquisition timed out
There is a bit more on the screen but not sure what is useful.

Mac Pro with software raid and upgrading to Snow Leopard

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this but here goes. I have a mac pro with 4 500G drives using the onboard software raid. When I insert the Snow Leopard disk and try to install, it fails to find the raid. Is there a trick to get this to work?

Thank you SSSOOO much Greg818. I was pulling my hair out over this problem. I even went so far as to do a full Leopard install with Snow Leopard update on a USB drive and them cloned it over to my RAID 0 array using SuperDuper hoping that this would solve the problem. It seemed to in the sense that the clone went fine but then when I would try and boot from the array I would get the Apple Logo and spinning wheel but it just kept spinning and spinning until finally the Apple logo was replaced by the Do Not Enter symbol(you know the circle with the slash through it).
So came here and found this thread. Your solution worked like charm!!! Once again thank you so much... you saved me from being bald.

If I upgrade to latest version QuickTime will the Pro license still work?

I am running QuickTime 7.0.3 and just bought QuickTime Pro a few days ago to combine some short videos. I should have upgraded to the latest version of QuickTime before getting Pro but I didn't think about it at the time. If I upgrade to QuickTime 7.5 now, will the license I purchased for QuickTime Pro 7.0.3 work with QuickTime 7.5, or will my 7.0.3 Pro license be dumped and I will have to buy another $30 Pro license for 7.5?

Version Numbers Vs. Patch Levels For Web Tools

I have noticed that version numbers for Web Tools such as 620, 621, 622, 624, 625, 627, and 628 correspond somehow to the patch level (6, 8, 10, etc.). What is the difference between the version numbers and patch levels, and which ones match up with which?

Prior to p10, the last digit of the version corresponds to the patch level.
From p10 going forward, the last set of digits represents the patch.
Patch 10 is 2007.0.630.10
Patch 11 will be 2007.0.631.11
The version will only change if there are upgrade scripts that need to run for the patch.

GTX 580 Twin Frozr II O/C - confused by bios version number, and how to flash

Hi, my first post here. But I've been reading a bit here. Still, I get confused by this whole vga bios thing, version numbers and how to flash... Ok, so here's my situation:
I have two PC's. Both with one MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 card inside. It seems to me that both are working according to specifications, GPU-Z reports:
GPU clock 800 Mhz, Memory 1024 Mhz, Shader 1600 Mhz for the borth of them.
Now, one of them seems not to be totally stable (this is the newest I bought a few days ago). It locks up/crashes in some games. The other seems ok, I've been having that one for a while. Could this be a GPU core voltage problem? GPU-Z reports for the both of them:
VDDC 0.955 v
I've tried running MSI afterburner, changing core voltage to 1025, and in afterburner settings enable "Force constant voltage". Still, GPU-Z, which I keep running at the same time, still reports only 0.955. I thought this setting in Afterburner would change voltage to 1.025? This situation is for both the old one and the new one.
Now to the Bios "problem".
The newest card (the not so stable one) reports through GPU-Z: Bios Version 70.10.20.00.01
The oldest (stable) card: Bios Version 70.10.17.00.01
So... which one has the newest bios? Seems to me it is the newest card.
BUT - when running MSI Live Update 5 (newest version) it says for both the cards that they have the the newest bios version, and there's no need to upgrade??
SO - I go to the MSI webpage: http://no.msi.com/product/vga/N580GTX-Twin-Frozr-II-OC.html#?div=BIOS to download the newest bios manually, just in case.. But there it gets more confusing. The Bios version found there is :NV255MS.104(.zip).
And also, on that page I can not find how to use that file. Extracting it just gives me the file NV255MS.104 and no extension.
So, which bios is the newest one? 70.10.20.00.01 (the highest number, in the new card, but not stable in some games), 70.10.17.00.01 (in my old card, but seems stable in the games I've tried), or NV255.104 (which I don't know how to use).
I've flashed my main board bios many times over the years in various set ups, the bios on two different SSD disks and so on.. never had a problem with that, or finding out if I have the correct bios, how to do it and so on.
Maybe I'm stupid, but this MSI Twin Frozr II O/C GTX 580 bios thing confuses me a lot... So, how do I solve this situation?

I am also interested in the answer as I have 2 MSI N580GTX-M2D15D5/OC cards. I can find the latest BIOS file "NV801MS.KG4.zip" and know the version is "KG4". But how do you relate this to the current BIOS version Afterburner or GPU-Z provides? The version they each provide is "70.10.17.00.01" for both cards. The only other way to determine if they are up to date is to install and run MSI Live Update. MSI Live Update responds that they are up to date with no current version or online version information on the Live Update tab. At least the information on the Home tab states the same VGA BIOS version as GPU-Z and Afterburner. I can can only assume that the BIOS is updated by using MSI Live Update.
Also just for the additional information GPU-Z displays my VDDC as 1.039 briefly then 0.995 constantly when switching between cards. I actually have the cards set to 1.050 with Afterburner to be stable when running Crysis 2 DX11 updates.

Logic Pro License Protection

What precautions are in place once there are no longer new tangible Logic Pro retail licenses available when the App Store manages our new pro licenses? Our licenses could be erased or worse vaporized by the cloud os like our accounts here can be disabled or a new post deleted by the mods. What department with any human being can be held accountable for an issue like this and reset our licenses?

well does it make any logical sense then that AppleCare states that as soon as Logic Pro 8 or 9 are registered with Apple and give 90 days free tech support they will not extend, but can charge after this time is up per call to tech support only if at least a scanned receipt showing that this was purchased from an Apple Authorized reseller as proof of purchase is provided? the thing is the receipt just has a quantity and not the ID code number or something like Waves would do if I bought their plugins at guitar center and the receipt would have a code or ID to match the actual retail box I bought. so this means as long as the receipt for Logic Studio was purchased from an Apple Authorized reseller as proof of purchase or as a gift. this is not Logic Pro license security, protection and not fair either currently for the greater good of the legitimate Logic Professional Support Community.

IOS-XE version numbers (specifically as they relate to Security Advisories)

I am working through all the recent security advisories and I am having a little trouble discerning between the IOS-XE version numbers and the other numbers on the page. I am under the impression that 3.6.xE and 15.2(2)E are the same software and the 15.2(2)E is just a mapping to relate it to the classic IOS version numbering.
Is the bug information incorrect or are those two truly two separate pieces of software and one is vulnerable while the other is not. Please keep in mind the bug above is just and example. I am running into this with quite a few other bugs that are related to IOS-XE.

In your platform options file, for the frameworks you need to link to weakly, you may try using -weak_framework linker option. eg.
<option>-weak_framework Twitter</option>
Using -framework will always link to the framework strongly, despite the setting used while compiling the native library in XCode.
In general, in this file, you can use the linker options in the way they are provided to ld command.

Mail will no longer download on the MacBook Pro and keeps asking for my password.

Mail should still be usable with your machine - but you'll need to update the settings to conform to the requirements of your system. Check with your ISP (like ATT, etc.) for the settings that will work with your Mail. Once you've updated this, you should be able to email like before.
For example, my ISP required that I go to Mail Preferences/Accounts and make sure the details conform to your email settings.
I have no idea of what your ISP is or what the settings might be, but this is likely the source of the problem.
