Web Dynpro ABAP vs web dynpro java
Why do we have webdynpro abap when we already have webdynpro java?
Hi,
just take a look around in this forum, this sort of question has been answered several times already.

NW 7.3 + iView from remote source wizard + R3 Web Dynpro ABAP, not working
Hi,
I think this forum is my last resort.
I'm running NetWeaver 7.3 Enterprise Portal and also have an existing ECC6 on backend.
Our ABAP Programmer has built some WD4A application on ECC, I'd like to made them available
on EP as ABAP WebDynpro iView.
From the document, I know the way to create ABAP WD iView is different since 7.3. I have to use "iView from remote source" to do it.
On EP side, I have made an system alias (test ok) for ECC, assigned permission, provide mapping id/pwd, and test.
On ABAP side, all webdynpro app are activated (T-code sicf, /sap/bc/webdynpro, /sap/public/bc/webdynpro...). I can even test WAS by bringing up browser and access some sample ABAP webdynpro .
However, I cannot success on "iView from remote source" wizard and it always show me "Nothing found. Check your search Criteria.". Eventhough I use "*" as search criteria.
Anyone has the similar situation ? I even doubt that it is a placeholder of a feature , not working for now. Anyone made it work on NW 7.3 ?
More detail:
My System Alias for ECC:
Application Host: myr3.mydomain.com
SAP Client: 600
SAP System ID: DEV
SAP System Number: 00
Server Port: <leave it blank>
System Type: SAP_R3
Logon Method: UIDPW
User Mapping Type: admin,user
ICM Host: myr3.mydomain.com:8000
ICM Protocol: http
ICM URL prefix: <leave it blank>
SAP Netweaver AS Description: <leave it blank>
All other fileds are leave it as default value
I also assign a group to have "read" and "user" permission to this system
Also assign Alias to the system.
I also create a user belong to the group, assign his system mapping an ECC user ID & PWD to it.
I tested the System alias, it is working (both WEB AS test, and R3 test)
Then I try to create an iView on EP, under a PCD folder , new->iview->iview from remote source. A wizard show up. Then I can select the ECC alias just created, and provide * as application search criteria, and then select "WEB DYNPRO ABAP" as the application type. Then "GO"
as I mentioned, it always show "Nothing Found. Check your search crieteria"
But I'm sure the web dynpro applications are activated on R3.
OK, that's it, please help this one. Thanks
IF YOU DID MAKE IT WORK ON YOUR NW 7.3, PLEASE DROP A LINE HERE SO I KNOW IT IS MY OWN PROBLEM !!!

[About Backend]
I feel confident about the backend R3 system because I can use the WAS URL to access the sample WD4A application, for example, I can bring up the wd4a application ui in my browser. It is purely browser and R3 stuff, no EP involved.
http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000/sap/bc/webdynpro/bobf/demo_sales_order?sap-client=600&sap-language=ZF
I also already activate all nodes and sub-nodes (in SICF Services) under /sap/bc/webdynpro as well as /sap/public/bc/webdynpro. (and some other nodes to make icon and include work)
[About the system object in EP]
I have done all kind of test on the system object (alias):
1. In EP System Administration -> Landscape Configuration, I select the system object, click "Test Connection", It shows me a Check mark, and the detail message is SOE_DEV_600 connection
2. Edit the System object, then click on "Connection Tests" page, I see two lines there, check both and click test, here is the result:
SAP Web AS Connection:
: Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
1. Check the validity of the system ID in the system object
2. Check if the system can be retrieved
3. Check if the system object has a valid system alias
4. Check if an SAP system is defined in the system object
5. Validate the following parameters: Web AS protocol; Web AS hostname
6. Checks if the host name of the server can be resolved.
7. Pings the Web AS Ping service (works only if the service is activated on the Web AS, and only on ABAP Web AS)
8. Check HTTP/S connectivity to the defined back-end application
Results
1. The system ID is valid
2. System retrieved successfully
3. Retrieval of the default alias was successful
4. The system object represents an SAP system
5. The following parameters are valid: ICM Protocol (http) ICM Host Name (soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000)
6. The host name (soeprdev.mydomain.com) was resolved successfully
7. The Web AS ping service http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000/sap/bc/ping was pinged successfully
8. An HTTP/S connection to http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000 was obtained successfully.
Connection Test for Connectors:
: Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
1. Retrieve the default alias of the system
2. Check the connection to the back-end application using the connector defined in this system object
Results
Default alias retrieved successfully
Connection successful -

sunil kumar.Hi Sunil
1. Web Dynpro ABAP, is a Framework given by SAP to develop Web Application using ABAP as a programming language.
2. Core ABAP is to develop applications in SAP GUI, Web Dynpro ABAP is for Internet based Applications.
3. Help site Documentation

RajendraHi Rajendra,
The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
In a nutshell:
ABAP+JAVA
Pros
- Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
- Less costly
Cons
- Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
- Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
- Limited scalability
JAVA and ABAP on separate server
Pros
- Improved performance
- Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
- More scalable
Cons
- Adds complexity to landscape
- Additional costs

It always advisable to go to service.sap.com/instguides.
slow and steady wins the race.
good luck.
It's advisable to have quad processor with atleast 8GB ram.
If it's a nw04s then at a shot you can select AS ABAP. JAVA, EP, PI(XI) and proceed.

Authorization objects in web dynpro ABAP and SU24 transaction
Hi,
I have created a new authorization object to check a storage location for certain activities. I have added the authorization object in a specific web dynpro ABAP and I have created a new role in PFCG for my web dynpro ABAP.
The organization level for storage location is not recognized in PFCG. Someone told me I have to maintain my authorization object in SU24 as it is done for transaction.
I wanted to maintain my web dynpro in SU24 but I found no way to do that.
It seems that we can maintain authorization for TADIR service and in those services there is R3TR WDYA but when I use the search help for OBJ_NAME I don't find may web dynpro ABAP. I suppose I have to create a TADIR service for my web dynpro ABAP or something like that but I don't know how to do ?
Does anybody know how to deal with specific authorization in web dynpro ABAP and t ohave the organizational level recognized in PFCG.
Thanks for your help,
EmmanuelHi,
Please RUN the function module as "AUTH_TRACE_WRITE_USOBHASH" with following parameter
R3TR
"custom webdynpro application"
SERVICE TYPE and Service can be kept blank
after this try SU24 it will be available in SU24 list.
Thanks & regards -
Web Dynpro ABAP, Crystal and ACF
Hi fellow developers,
I am attempting to get an Web Dynpro ABAP application working with an embedded Crystal report.
We are on ECC6, release 702. So far I am just using the stock standard application provided by SAP: WD_ACF_TEST_CRYSTAL.
Unfortunately I get the following errors:
Techincal info:CoCreateInstance error with guid: 2F848BE4-8329-4C09-8613-FC9DFF55C10F
Messagetextid:352 Messageclass info:Integrated control cannot be started
I am using a local installation of the Netweaver Business Client and I have installed Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 locally on my machine.
I have tried WD_TEST_APPL_ACFEXECUTE and after saving the certificate, it works.
I think the problem lies with the Active Controls White List in SPRO.
Thank you in advance,
Jason LanteNevermind, I found the solution.
It appears that you need to install the Crystal Reports ALV Adapter (xSAPCRVAdpt.exe) for this to work.
Refer to note: 1353044.

Diff in web dynpro abap and Java
Hi Friends,
I am new to web dynpro ABAP and Java.
1) Please give me idea about about these two
2) In which Scenarios these are helpfull
3) From which version onwards these are existing
Thanks for your help.
Thanks,
AshaHi Ravi,
The following are basic differences between ABAP and JAVA WD.
1. ABAP WD can be developed in ABAP Workbench thru transaction SE80 whereas Java WD needs SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
2. Since ABAP WD is a part of the ABAP Workbench, it has direct access to ABAP dictionary. Hence access is faster.
3. In order to develop on ABAP WD, you will need basic knowledge of ABAP objects, whereas in Java WD, dev is using Java -
Web Dynpro ABAP, Adobe interactive forms and Drag and Drop functionality.
Hi Experts,
is it possible to use Drag and Drop functionality together with Adobe Interactive forms in Web Dynpro ABAP? I consider dragging object (like texts) to interactive form placed in Web Dynpro.I think I understand but just to make it clear. I use texts created using function module "SAVE_TEXT". In my Web Dynpro I select one or more of them and use the button "insert text" (with appropriate functionality behind it) to insert them to specified location in my PDF form opened in this Web Dynpro. Considering what you said it is not possible to replace this "insert text" button by drag and drop functionality. Am I correct?
Btw great job with the book "Next Generation ABAP Development" Thomas! -
Web Dynpro ABAP: Documentation and help link
Hi,
I'm in the process of creating a Web Dynpro ABAP application and was wondering whether you can maintain Documentation for the application, as you would a standard ABAP report? I see the Documentation option in the Goto menu of the workbench, but it is inactive.
Also, i notice you can maintain a 'Help Link' for the application. Does anyone have any information on this as I can't find anything on the SAP Help website.
Thanks,
NickHi Nick,
here's the link to the corresponding documentation:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/54/bad1d244b2754bac09ae1558c15984/frameset.htm
If you choose the Change/Edit button at the right side of the input field, you can navigate to the info object to which you want to set the link in the Knowledge Warehouse.
Of course, you need an info object in the correct context in the KW for this as well as a correctly maintained RFC destination to the Knowledge Warehouse system.
