Pro's & Con's of Phone?
I'm looking to upgrade, and looking at the HTC Incredible 2 or possibly the Thunderbolt. What would you say the pro's and con's are? When using wifi do you have to put the phone in airplane mode? Is it easy to find apps for the phone. Like say my health care provider has an app for android phones where I could access my medical records from my phone. Would it install nicely even though HTC has Sense ? Or would I have problems? Is it easy to download photos from sites or ring tones? Can they be installed and saved from a website directly to the phone? Or do you still have to have it sent to you via text message and saved? How good is battery life?. I don't do a lot of talking or texting, or playing games. So hoping the battery will last longer than 24 hours. I do charge my phone every night anyway. But in case I don't have the ability to charge my phone, I want to know that in case I need to make a call I can without worrying about the battery going dead. Where I work ,we can not have our phones with us, they must be in our lockers. So for most of the day 8 hours plus it will probably be in standby mode. I would like to hope that by the time I go to leave work it will have enough battery life for me to make a call in the event of an emergency while on my way home.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Mel
I had contemplated a 4G phone, however, I'm in a small rural town and I doubt we'll get 4G within the next year. I didn't want to get a 4G phone and then only be able to utilize the 3g network. By the time it is here, it will be time for my next upgrade. I do not do a whole lot of surfing or texting or what not. I think on a busy day I might make like 4 calls. Normally I'll make one a day if that. Not a big text person either. I do text, but not a ton. I do get weather updates though by text so, it may change now that I have a smart phone.
I did end up buying the Incredible 2. It should be here Wednesday (crossing fingers that MLJ Day isn't going to delay it any!
I had to upgrade because my Kin2M isn't charging properly, and I don't want to wait for it to die. (warranty is up already on it) I had been using my old intensity 2 but the signal quality on that is just going to the pitts because it isn't even a 3G phone. It only gets 1X. I was tried of having to press my face to a window and hold the phone up about another 3 feet in the air to get a proper signal. So had to upgrade. I got better signal on the Kin2m. Hopefully I won't have the same signal issues with this phone. With the kin I got 2 bars and never had a dropped or lost call. The intensity2 I couldn't even get one bar!
Can't wait to get the new phone!

For those who are running FROYO let's have a pros and cons thread so some of the others who are on the fence about running it will get a little more info. And PLEASE don't include any links, instructions, etc. and hopefully the VZW folks will allow it to stay as an informative thread only.
Pros:
Little more responsive
Flash 10.1
Choice of unlock screens, pin, password,or current ones.
Google Search is back (still includes Bing as well).
Cons:
Battery life not as good as 2.1 (on my device anyway).
Warranty may be voided, not official VZW yet.
Can't get it over the air, which I personally don't care for anyway. Have had a couple bad experiences with OTA in the past.
These are a few I can think of at the moment.gsp10 wrote:

That's because apple only gives you one storage area so all of your apps, music, videos, etc are there. On Android, most of the memory heavy content will be on the sd card and not the internal storage. I could see the internal storage filling up if you have NFS Shift, Madden and a bunch of other games of that size but then you most likely just have your phone filled up with a bunch of crud that you never use.

Too worried to upgrade software. The pros and cons
From a NOkia lover to others,
I am all for making improvements and fully understand that we can't always get it right first time every time but atm I am too concerned with the fact that updating my software will create problems that are non-existent in my eyes.
My girlfriend updated her (my old) N70 software last week and now her phone is in the repair shop. This could just be a coincidence but....
I had an N95 (on orange) and was stung when the "unlucky for some" version 13 was installed on the handset. See the epic thread here "N95 firmware upgrade affects battery life" (couldn't post link)
I carried out the full back up to my card as instructed but the games I purchased would no longer work so had to re-buy them. The battery life was killed in eight hours due to the wlan making a connection attempt as long as the battery would allow it to happen. The point is... all of this was not happening before the update.
It was that bad that in the end I was forced to upgrade / get a new contract before I was entitled to one from Orange and had to fork out for two contracts to get the handset spec I needed.
I now have an N95 8GB and have no qualms with it what so ever. It has version 20 atm and pc suite informs me there is an update every time I boot the program up. So far.. I have declined to update.
So what are the pros and cons and is it more of a risk to chance losing the licenses I have paid for and update if nothing is wrong?
Best Regards
SgtTrojan
The swordsman that goes to war thinking of saving himself had better not go to war at all.I myself am also worried. A friend of mine told me if there is no porblem with your current version of firmware for your phone then why update? It is not a assurance that after updating there would be no problems/bugs with the new version. My friend has a point. Why would we update if there is no problem with your current firmware version? Some would say it would be faster, there would be more improvements to the music ( which I know would be depending with your hardware and not the software).
I am thinking of updating my firmware with a Nokia Service Center here in my country (Philippines). It is for free at the moment because my phone ins under 1 year Warranty. But I am thinking twice after what my friend told me.
I hope my opinion helps you all out here. -
Mouse 4 and marks - pros and cons with Mavericks
Hello,
I'm pretty new to mac but have had computers for many many years. However I've bought the latest iMac maxed out.
Pros and cons:
Pros: It's an Apple product. It great really and I love it. The only wonder I have is why they made the computer thinner and didn't install a true desktop graphic card in there. I guess it's because they don't want people to buy that computer instead of Mac Pro.
Cons:
1. I've been searching for a way for go back in a browser faster without trackpad/magicmouse. There is only thirdparty programs that I have to pay for that support Mouse 4, for example. Still don't understand why Apple have chosen not to support this. Atleast allow me to just drag the window like we do on the iPhone. Right now I have to either click the back button or right click and chose "Back".
2. When I'm in my Videos folder or any type of folder really. Let's say I have a folder with 10 movies in it. I open one, watch it and then close the player. I then can't see which video I just watched. The only way to see this is either to remember the videoname or open all videos again until I find it. In Windows, the video/file will be marked so I know which file I just watched.
3. iCloud service are very nice, but still a little hard to understand how it works. If I transfer all my pictures from my iPhone to my iMac using iCloud and then delete them all from my phone. Will they disappear on my Mac too? Since the systems are synced?Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

I am interested to know the shortcomings of L73x. It's better to know before I buy than to shed tears later. I understood that not any phone can feature all functionalities still it's good to know the pros and cons.
senba wrote:
I will expect nothing short of the features which the predecessor / lower end variant was delivering.
The Nokia model-numbering scheme gives a false impression. For example, a 22€ Nokia 2730 classic had a better sound equalizer than the Nokia 808 PureView. For example, a Nokia Lumia 930 did not get Glance Screen although the Nokia Lumia 630 and Nokia Lumia 1520 do.
The numbers do not indicate lower/higher but again just these target audiences. I do not like comparisons because they go wrong easily but let us go for this: The first/front number is very much like grades in school. There is 5th grade, 6th grade and so on. As you expect from a class, not all pupils are perfect. Some pupils have a deficit in that feature, some are outstanding in that ability. That continues over the years, and as consequence a 9th grade pupil is still not perfect – not in every aspect. In some areas of knowledge and expertise, a 6th grade might be better, in same areas. Think about the numbering scheme as an academic year in school, I would not go for lower/higher in proficiencies just from the number.
Predecessor/successor – same here. Nokia never aimed to create predecessors. Neither in model numbers, nor in feature set, nor in price tags. The current naming Lumia x2x versus Lumia x3x looks like that, but is more about a ‘generation’. Although normal guys like you and me love to stick to the well-known, Nokia hates to accompany us on our journey with a successor every year – like others do quite well.
Nokia; no predecessor/lower here. Successor? Improvement in feature set? Nokia: ‘Please go for the one your network operator offers at that time; we have done it right for you, already.’ Hopefully, hopefully, Steven Elop as a Master of Computer Science – a software man – finds the vim to tell those hardware guys about the expectations of end-users, one day. Until then, do not expect too much from them.
senba wrote:
Can [Glance Screen] be introduced in a later stage through some OS updates[?]
I do not expect this to happen because the software is written, therefore my guess: hardware is missing. This is not like sound equalizer, Miracast, or FM radio – cases which Windows Phone had no software support when the hardware was finished. Anyway, just a guess. But again I would not expect Glance Screen for the Nokia Lumia 735. -

What are the pros and cons of
1) choosing to use the SAME
Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and
purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or
2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides"?
P.S.
I have loads and loads of free podcasts in iTunes in my iMac, that are certainly more thant the 5 gigas the iCloud provides for free, so I don't want those to go to the cloud. But this is perhaps a different question...
Also need to mention that I have itunes on a mac, a pc and an iphone.
Sorry to look so silly with this question, but I don't get the "big picture".You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

How do I get my macbook pro to recognize my android phone so I can transfer photos from the phone
how do I get my macbook pro to recognize my android phone to I can transfer photos from the phone
you could try this:
http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
there's something called "Airdroid" on the Play store (whatever that is)
or if your files are on an sd card, you may wish to use an sd card reader. Just plugging it in via USB might possibly work. There's also something called DoubleTwist (basically iTunes for Android, which will allow you to
sync your music , photos, videos, etc
hope one of these works for you

What are the Pros and Cons while joining tables at DF and Universe level
Hi Experts,
I am new to Data federator designer. I need help on the below.
Could you please let me know the Pros and Cons while joining the source tables in data federator
And While joining the DF target tables in universe designer.
Regards,
GanaHi,
1. I have created target tables based on source tables with one to one mapping and then join all target tables in universe.
Ex: Source tables: Infocube text tables, fact tables and 3rd party data base table
Target tables:Target tables are same as source tables
--- Yes this is the way to create target Tables and join them in the universe. These target Tables gives you the flexibility like in future your requirement is to add one more object based on some calculation which is not possible in the universe so that time you can create one more column in the target table and do the calculation. at the same time if you are using source table you can not do anything.
2. Created single target table with all objects of source tables and merged all sources tables data.
Ex: Source tables: Infocube text tables, fact tables and 3rd party data base table
Target table: Single table.
--- This is bit complex structure to merge all tables data in the one target table.in this situation you have to put more efforts and it is more complex.basically this type of target table is useful when you are merging data by multiple source into single or creating one target table based on the union of tables by adding two mapping rules or more and you can not join tables in universe.
Better approach is first 1. create target tables based on the source tables and join them in the universe.
Thanks,

Pros and Cons not determining / having a Delivery Plant in Sales Order?
Hi Mates
Here I have come-up with one more (weired?) requirement from my client.
We have two plants manufacturing same product and supplying to all customers (some time in same sales order with two different line items).
At the timeof creating a sales order, marketing does't know from which plant the material will move and hence they don't want to fill the Delivering Plant field (VBRP-BUKRS at Shipping tab) for each Item.
They are insisting me to map it as above though I had explained about various pros and cons for not determining a mandatory delivery plant
in sales order like the requirements and shipping stuff.
Yet, yet they want this.
Has anyone come across this kind of requirement before? What best you had done for that?
Can I ask you what are the Pros and cons on not having a Delivery Plant at Sales Order level?
what if I could determine it Delivery level?
Any comments, suggestions, replies and advices are taken humbly.
Cheers
Ajay Kumar VeerankiDear Mahulenka
Thanks a lot for the reply. It do have helped me.
Yest it is VBAP-WERKS (typo error ).
Infact I had given the same solution for the issue.
Interstingly, they are insisting on a better solution fit for their requirement. Anyway shall 'highlight' the points again to them try to get it solved
Just wondering has anyone faced the same situation before.
Thanks again for the reply and good luck

What are the Pros and Cons of Using Batch Numbers over Serialization
Dear SAP Gurus:
Will someone please give me the benefits of using Batch Management over serial numbers in this case scenerio, or vice versa:
Client wants to trace all the components of an assembly in a BOM. Even the Raw material. The client sends the material out today and has the vendor assign serial numbers to the individual pieces, the client gives the range of serial numbers to use. We are looking at using batch numbers to accomplish this and issue one material and batch number to a production order. Then use MB56 batch where used functionality to view history. I am wanting to understand the benefits of this. Please advise and points will be awarded as always.
Also, in this scenerio, can you issue multiple material/batch numbers to one vendor op that has its own production order?Yes it is a subcontract.
Example: This is the solution but need the pros and cons of doing this scenerio
Sheet of metal sent to vendor to make lets say 1800 peices of material number nas5703-01. All 1800 pieces come back and issued to a production work order using one bacth number for one material item so that batch number can be traced in history in MB56 and a fit up report. -
What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
Hi all,
1.What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?

RajendraHi Rajendra,
The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
In a nutshell:
ABAP+JAVA
Pros
- Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
- Less costly
Cons
- Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
- Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
- Limited scalability
JAVA and ABAP on separate server
Pros
- Improved performance
- Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
- More scalable
Cons
- Adds complexity to landscape
- Additional costs

What are the pros and cons of storing heavely used CFCs in the application scope?
I've been storing all the required CFCs for a site in the application scope. During onApplicationStart I do something like this application.objSomeCfc =CreateObject('component', 'com.someCfc').init().
Here is my reasoning.
Get the CFCs initialized once and stored in memory for better performance.
Using CreateObject several times on each page load can have a negative impact on performance.
Having one place to create application scoped CFCs makes it easier to manage code.
So is my thinking flawed? Are there any additional pros or cons for dealing with CFCs? Is there any docs, articles, blogs, videos, frameworks, ...... that I should check that may change my perspective on how I'm doing this?
ThanksYour approach is fine, depending on how many and what type of CFCs you are talking about. If they are "singletons" - that is, only one instance of each CFC is needed to be in memory and can be reused/shared from multiple parts of your application - caching them in the application scope is common. Just make sure they are thread safe ("var" or local.* all your method variables).
You might consider taking advantage of a dependency injection framework, such as DI/1 (part of the FW/1 MVC framework), ColdSpring, or WireBox (a module of the ColdBox platform that can be used independently). They have mechanisms for handling and caching singletons. Then you wouldn't have to go to the application scope to get your CFC instances.

What are the pros and cons using Active Data Guard vs Data Guard?
My understanding is that Active Data Guard is an additional database option for Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise Edition. I need to know the pros and cons using Active Data Guard vs Data Guard in order to decide whether to get pay extra for the Active Data Guard.
Thanks for any help.Hemant K Chitale wrote:
Before jumping in to Active Data Guard, one needs to evaluate :
a. Is there really a need to run queries on the Standby ? The Standby could / should be at a remote site so queries are "across the network". Depending on the nature of the queries and the volume of output, the "performance" of the queries may not seem to be the same.
b. If the database is not in Maximum Protection mode, the data "seen" at the standby may not be in "real-time" synch
c. Not all applications are truely read-only when querying. Some applications use "jobs" that write to tables when querying. Such would not work with Active DataGuard. (example : EBusiness Suite). There are very complicated ways of handling this -- and one needs to consider if the complications can be introduced and supported.
Over the network accessing standby read only is really not an good idea, I think no one will compare performance with primary and standby,
But some of them they want to validate data which are very critical, as it is matching with primary or not, Its an added advantage with ACTIVE DATAGUARD
Prior to that until unless stop MRP, open database and then we need to validate, So there is an interruption of recovery, I can say its also an advantage where there is no interruption of recovery. -
Same SID for QA & Prd systems - pros and cons?
We have the foll systems:
1. Enterprise Portal 7.0
2. NWDI 7.0
3. NW 7.0 (with XECO - Ecommerce)
4. TREX 7.1
5. Content Server 6.40
6. ECC 6.0
Currently the QA and Prd systems have the same SID and system/instance no, although they are on different hosts.
We would like to know what are the long term pros and cons for keeping the QA and Prd SIDs the same for all systems.
We are already making a list, so thought we might as well get more inputs from the community too.
We already have this arrangement for the past 3 months and have not faced any major issues.
A couple of cons though:
1. Cannot use solman as it cannot distinguish between the diff servers with same SID
2. ABAP transports from QA to Prd have to be manually done (cannot use STMS)
Thanks
PrasadHi Manoj,
Changing the SID of java systems is a very tedious procedure. Hom sys copy is just a part of the SID change...there are a whole lot of configs to be done after that...the task is eq to a new setup of systems
For once, the efforts put in are huge..you can see there are 5 systems..besides, it will involve coordination from all teams - basis, development, functional, project management.
Here are a few advantages that we know of:
1. No efforts reqd to change back to original SID
2. During disaster recovery, we just have to restore the production database on QA and change the hostname, whereas its not so in case of having diff SIDs
3. For end-users this will be transparent because they will be using the hostname in the URL which is anyways different
We have the same SIDs for the past 3 months and have not seen major issues, but we also would like to know from the long term perspective if there are any risks that we have not foreseen...hence we seek help from the community.
Hope its clear now
Thanks for your response
