Pro Tools 7.3 and  MacBookPro

Does anyone have any idea of where to find a (free) discussion board on Pro Tools and MacBookPro? I've been able to open ProTools before, but now it just bounces a couple of times and then refuses to open.
Thanks

www.bigbluelounge.com is pretty good.

  • Driver clash between Garageband and Pro Tools

I recently installed Pro Tools 7.3 LE on my Macbook to assist me in my aspirations to become a rock n roll superstar. I'm a DJ as well and have been using Garageband for my programs. But after installing Pro Tools everytime I open Garageband gives me this warning:
+Garageband has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.+
+Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.+
After clicking "Ok" a couple of times I get this warning:
    +Mac OS X MIDI Services not available.+
What do I do? Is there some kind of driver I should (un)install?

I've had this issue ever since I upgraded to Leopard. I was running Pro Tools LE .3 and Garageband '08, but Garageband just wouldn't cooperate and give me the third-party driver conflict error. I dug through all my library folders with anything connected to third party MIDI driver (Line 6, M-Audio, intentionally shying away from PT hoping I could salvage it )and deleted it, and still no luck. Eventually I punted and uninstalled Pro Tools, and bada-boom, the error is gone and Garageband runs fine.
I'm pretty sure now that Digidesign is in conflict with Leopard and GB 08, but they're not coming clean about it yet:

  • Pro-tools and Logic

I am looking into getting an Audio Interface. Everybody suggest that i get an Mbox and get into the world of pro-tools because this is the Industry Standard. Logic Pro 7 is my one and only DAW. Still a beginner on this but i am starting to get filmmakers asking for my help.
I am starting to do film music and video/tv jingles. I am sure it's inevitably on some projects that i will mix my own compositions and sound design some indie films. Will M-box 2 work with Logic? Is it inevitable i learn Pro tools as well and do all the mixing here? Thanks

Thanks guys. I think i fairly know logic now and so
do you think it will be easier to learn pro-tools?
It's a different animal. Don't worry about how hard or easy it will be to learn. If you want to learn it, you'll learn it.
iScwartz, very good point... I assume you do
everything in Logic? Also what interface do you use?
Thing is, i only have a G5 imac. So PCI is not for me
at the moment... any suggestions though?
The problem with FW-based interfaces is that some of them suffer from random recording delay offsets (every time you turn on your computer, the offset changes). Do some research here (and elsewhere) to find out which FW-based interfaces do not suffer from this. I'm sure someone will chime in with some info for you.

  • IMac will not run Pro Tools 9 - Some will not run CS5.5 Production Premium and some will?

So i have 6 imacs in my computer lab at this time - I recently created a new image for all of our lab computers using snow leopard OS, Pro Tools 9.0, and Adobe CS5.5 Production Premium - this image works fine on our MacPro's and Pro Tools has no problems opening or CS5.5, but when I imaged the same image onto the imacs - CS5.5 only works on two of the machines and Pro Tools 9.0 will not open on any imac ( i keep getting the message "Can not find playback device: I thought you didnt need one for Pro Tools 9?) and i cant figure out why.  The imacs that have problems with CS5.5 and Pro Tools are the 20" early 2006 versions, and the imacs that run CS5.5 but not Pro Tools are 20" late 2006 versions.  Are they just too old?  Why would it let me image on the late 2006 version of imac but not the early 2006?  Do i need to create an image on the imac itself and then farm it out to the others?
    Thanks for your comments,
    Kyle

I know this is a very late answer for you, but it may help others out.
Try holding down the "N" key on your keyboard while loading the Pro Tools application.
This will eventually open up a dialog box with a drop down menu for selecting your interface.
In the case where you're not using an interface (like the lab), within this dialog box, just select Built-in Output and plug in your headphones in the back of the iMac.
I'm running several rooms with iMacs and PTLE 9.0.6 on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and this is the only hiccup I've run into. Hopefully, holding down the "N" key works for you.

  • 7.1 to 7.2 Logic and Pro Tools 7 disaster!!!

I just installed Pro Tools 7.1cs4 and worked on it last night with all of my plug-ins including NIK2, TLSpace, etc.. Today I tried running Logic 7.1 in DAE mode and crashed my computer. Now Logic crashes every time and ProTools lost all my NI instrumnents and the install of TLSpace. I know that I need 7.2 to run this properly (my copy is in the mail as we speak..) What do I have to do to get back and running? Where did my plug-ins in Pro Tools go?

AJ...I agree the see-saw act for the last two months has been more than annyoning.
The bad news is PT7.1cs4 and anything but Logic 7.2 won't play well together using CORE AUDIO (DIGI)/DAE/TDM.
The good news is that Logic 7.2 crossgrade and PT7.1cs4 do actually work] together. I know...I know $50 here...$50 there. But if you must run audio inside Logic...
Don't know about your situation...but you would be able to slave Logic 7.1 to PT7.1. This might not provide you with everything you need though. But it does work.

  • Why can't I get Pro Tools LE to create a session on my new iMac?

    Summary
I can't get Pro Tools LE to open a session on my brand new iMac.
    Detail
Pro Tools launches but when I go to create a session it seizes up, the beach ball spins and I have to Force Quit and send yet another note to the Apple teacher. It does this without fail. I've tried to rectify this by saving to different locations and different external hard drives. The problem remains the same.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, stripping the computer of anything that says "digidesign," etc... it doesn't work.
I am using the same Pro Tools with the same OS and the same Digidesign hardware on a MacBook Pro without a problem. Go figure.

    _The Pro Tools LE Software_
    Pro Tools LE 8.0.3
I know what you're thinking... Snow Leopard is the problem. Right?
But the MacBook Pro has proven that theory wrong. The marriage between SL and LE8 on that notebook works fine.
As for LE on the iMac... At first it was 8.0.1 but now it is 8.0.3.
I upgraded to the supposedly Snow Leopard compatible Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 (pre-release) thinking that just maybe SL and LE8 weren't having as much fun together in the iMac bed as they were in the MacBook Pro. The result was identical -- stuck in Nowheresville.
I've been to the Digidesign discussion boards and the best I've been told so far is that my 3 day old iMac is a dud. On the other hand, away from Digidesign intoxication, some of the pros in the biz around town have said it's probably Pro Tools. Pro Tools they say is, at best, troublesome.
I'm planning on bailing out of Pro Tools altogether eventually and moving to an Apogee Duet with Nuendo 4 as I'm annoyed that I spend more time as an amateur paint-by-numbers technician than actually doing the job I'm paid to do. I'm also unhappy with expensive upgrades, lost paid for plugins due to upgrades and being railroaded into buying Avid gear only as demanded by the software.
But, in the meantime... I'm stuck with it. My own suspicions are that the cause of my troubles is the external hard drive and the FW400>FW800 conversion configuration but I'm not about to blow a few hundred bucks for a new hard drive based on a hunch that may not work. Your thoughts?
Any suggestions other than anything that involves screwdrivers and a cavalier mindset with the just out of the box hardware by a complete novice such as I are most welcome.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    I have the same problem.
First I tried PT8LE 8.0 - didn't even start, afterwards i tried 8.0.3pr (1.25GB) - the same result. Now I downloaded the 8.0.3 normal (1.6GB) and it starts, but after I get to open/create new session dialogue box it just gives me the beach ball of death...
When I force quit PT it won't even start again and gets stuck at loading plugins (and there are just the bundeled one, no third party - it's a clean install of the whole machine).
I too have a week old 27" imac i5 with 10.6.2. On my old 24" with 10.6.1 it's runnig smoothly.
My external drives were off during this so I guess it's not a thing of the FireWire ports.
So I guess it's nothing positive or helpful, but You're not alone with this

  • Audio Applications won't open (Ableton, Pro Tools, Logic, etc...)

For some reason, I cant open any audio-related applications on my mac.
Ableton live just keeps bouncing in the dock and eventually says (not responding)
    Logic wont open.
    Reason wont open.
Pro Tools crashes immediately and says "Pro tools cannot be opened because of a problem"
    I cant figure it out.
The only thing that MAY affect it is that I installed a digicoreaudio driver, but even so the applications were still working.
The last thing that happned was that I was in ableton, and that I had to force quit it.  And now nothing will open.

Remove that component accoroding to the developer's instructions, or, if you want to keep using it, refer to the developer for support.

  • Logic 7.1 compatability with Pro Tools Mix?

    Hi,
Can I import audio or open a file from a Pro Tools Mix session, and if so, how? I'm sort of confused as I thought that Logic could open and save as SDII. Am I wrong here?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Thanks for the quick response; however I think I may not have been specific enough. What I'm trying to do is to open some songs that my band recorded in a local studio. They are on an external hard drive, and when I go to open or import them, the 'open' button on the bottom of the Open File Dialog is unavailable. I can see the song names, track names, fade files, etc. What I can't seem to do is to actually access the audio itself.
I've spent a good deal of time with the Reference Manual, as well as the Apple Pro Training Series by Martin Sitter; obviously there's some basic step I'm missing.
Sorry to not have better explained it the first time, but I was starting to think that I was just trying to accomplish the impossible.
    thanks again,
    Jim

  • Adobe Audition to Pro Tools

I've got a client who wants me to mix his songs which he recorded in  Adobe Audition. I use Pro Tools to mix and haven't used Audition, since it was  Cool Edit Pro, so I was wondering if anyone has any experience here to  help me.
I need to consolidate all of his tracks to start at the zero point so I  can load them into my editor in sync. I would like to do it with out  buying any additional software.  Is there an easy way of doing this?  Also, where does Audition save audio files to, one big folder or  individual folders like Pro Tools does?
I've glanced at the online Audition manual, but haven't seemed to figure  out what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Audition saves files to wherever you specify - there are no restrictions on this, although why should this be an issue? Audition will export files directly in PT's restricted 24-bit format as well if needed (Audition's norm is 32-bit floating point). If the files were recorded in MV from the start point they will be in sync anyway, and if they weren't, then you would need to import the session file to locate them correctly. If you want to import the session, then there's only one tool that will do this as far as I'm aware, and that's version 3 of AAtranslator. This will work if you are using PT5, certainly.
Of course the other thing you could do is give yourself a real treat and download the trial of Audition 3, which will run without any restrictions for a month, and try doing the mix with that!

  • Pro tools 7 le or Logic Pro 7 ?

I saw the video of Pro tools 7 le and it does seem to have good midi editing capability. Midi is what I've heard people complain about in Pro tools. What do you think of Pro tools 7 le compared to Logic Pro 7?

I saw the video of Pro tools 7 le and it does seem to
have good midi editing capability. Midi is what I've
heard people complain about in Pro tools. What do you
think of Pro tools 7 le compared to Logic Pro 7?
I'm a former PT user. Here's the comparison between LP and PT. Pro Tools LE is like one of those studios with just a piano and 32 track board and adat. Where Logic Pro is a complete studio with about 6 keyboards and rack modules and effects and a 64 track board.
There's no comparison. Logic's a whole studio where PT LE is basically a mimmic of the tape. Now if you have your own equipment(i.e. third party plug ins and external synths) the PT LE will suffice the rewire setup and midi sync is much better and more stable than LP, but that's all PT Le has over LP.
Logic has taken my music to the next level. Those soft synth plug ins are great. Besides my MPC for drums, I really don't need any other external sounds. I mean you cant compare Logic's synths to PT LE's Reason Adapted and Sample Tank SE.
Pro Tools LE is really not in Logic's class. Some People think LP's a lesser program or in the same class as PT LE because its less expensive. But its really not. What makes PT LE expensive is its hardware that it uses as a XS key. You basically pay for the interface not the program.
You can compare Pro Tools LE to Logic Express. But Pro Tools LE to Logic Pro? C'mon that's like comparing a Pinto to a Lexus.
Oh yeah just look at the price. The only DAW sequencer that rivals LP'S price is Sonar. But Sonar would hit the market at about 800$ then the price would drop to about $500. Logic's hits the market a 1000$ and stays there, demand and customer satisfaction. Its worth way more that 1000$, besides my MPC its the best investment I've made regarding music.
The only thing I miss about PT's is the rewire and bussing. But with all the soft sythns LP has I really don't use Reason that much. I don't really need it.

  • Can I use a mac pro early 2008 w/10.6 with pro tools 9 Native,

thinking of ditching pc for a mac but all my research is telling me, rather than a late model mac pro upgradeable to mavericks (not tested for pro tools), my ideal setup would be an early 2008, mac pro with 10.6. currently using a lenovo desktop with 3 motu 2408 and the 424 pcie card with pro tools 9 native and reaper 4.57. works for me but since tasting mac I would like to explore the possibilties further. i had the opportunity to set up a system for a friend who purchased an imac 21" a presonus 24.4.2, and pro tools 10 he's using half the ram I have, but his system works like a beast! I;m not the imac type so, I feel a mac pro will help me expand my power base greatly and advice on mac pro options is appreceiated....

As you know, there is no 10.6.8 disk, but one can clone 10.6.8 into a late 2011 MBP (from an external HDD).  Niel mentions a 2012 model, you are the one who speaks of 2011 MBPs.  That is why I directed the comment to you.
