10.4.11 Pro Tools Compatability
As i was installing 10.4.11 through software update an error occoured in the update. I then had to do an archive install. Once installed i ran the 10.4.11 combo update. Everything is working fine except Pro Tools. Everytime i try to launch the application i get the "black screen of death". I have tried uninstalling and re installing pro tools with no luck. I have also verified my HD, along with running the pre binding script application. Do i have to go back to 10.4.9? to reinstall pro tools, and if so is the only way of doing this by archive and installing off my original install disc? I am desperate as this is my lively hood and projects are due!
Hi Thomas,
I'm not a pro tools user but I have been perusing the digidesign site and was wondering if you had tried downloading and running the OS X Prebinding script? According to digidesign:
"Although Mac OS X 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 have not been tested or qualified by Digidesign, the only known issue at this time has to do with Pro Tools failure to launch in some cases due to improper prebinding. In many cases, downloading and running the Mac OS X Prebinding Script from PACE may resolve the issues described above"
Check out this link, it might be of help: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100&categoryid=35&itemid=229 04

FCE & FCP compatibility with OMF files and Pro Tools
I am using Final Cut Express 3.5 and want to edit a future project on it for a friend. When I am finished with the project, I was wanting to export the audio as an OMF file so that it can be mixed in Pro Tools. However, I just realized that Final Cut Express 3.5 does not support OMF exporting.
I am trying to work around this problem and I just need some verification that my idea will work. This is my idea: Will it work if I take my finished FCE project and open it on a friend's computer that has Final Cut Pro and create an OMF file through FCP?
If so, after mixing in Pro Tools, will I be able to import the mixed audio back into my FCE (or worst case scenario, my friend's FCP) and be able to burn the movie to DVD?1. Depends on the FCP version they're using. FCP5.1 or later will work.

Logic 7.1 compatability with Pro Tools Mix?
Hi,
Can I import audio or open a file from a Pro Tools Mix session, and if so, how? I'm sort of confused as I thought that Logic could open and save as SDII. Am I wrong here?
Thanks,
JimThanks for the quick response; however I think I may not have been specific enough. What I'm trying to do is to open some songs that my band recorded in a local studio. They are on an external hard drive, and when I go to open or import them, the 'open' button on the bottom of the Open File Dialog is unavailable. I can see the song names, track names, fade files, etc. What I can't seem to do is to actually access the audio itself.
I've spent a good deal of time with the Reference Manual, as well as the Apple Pro Training Series by Martin Sitter; obviously there's some basic step I'm missing.
Sorry to not have better explained it the first time, but I was starting to think that I was just trying to accomplish the impossible.
thanks again,

Issues with compatibility, Lion, Leopard, Pro Tools reinstall
Geetings,
I upgraded to Lion but now my Pro-Tools 8.03 LE m-powered, isnt compatible. I have a Macbook 2009 4 gig ram, duo intel which is now Lion. and Mbox 2 mini
So I partitioned an external drive with Snow Leopard, but now my Pro-Tools DVD installer isnt reading, nothing happens, so I cant do a clean install.
I cannot move the pro-tools files over to the new drive either. Does anyone know how I can get my Protools working on the external drive/Snow Leopard?
I cant afford to upgrade Pro-Tools. Digidesign/Avid is angering alot of people lately with all of this confusion. Its my fault for not looking into it before I upgraded.
Thanks muchI understand that to be a hardware/software combination that is probably written in PowerPC so it needs Rosetta to work on an Intel Mac.
Installing Snow Leopard (with the OPTIONAL installation of Rosetta TURNED ON - redo this if you did not optionally install Rosetta) should work to allow you the "dual-boot" of running Snow Leopard when you need access to ProTools 8 LE and Mbox 2 mini.
Be sure to attempt to install this software into your external drive while Snow Leopard is the operating version of OS X. -
Two questions: pro tools HD compatbility. iMac vs MBP.
I'll first start off with the question regarding Pro Tools HD compatibility. When it says "compatible", what is this meaning exactly? I'm transferring to Belmont University for Music Business/Production next semester and have contacted the studio manager and he said they mainly use Pro Tools HD in the campus studios. I already have Pro Tools LE 7 with an Mbox, so I'll be able to take projects from the studio on a firewire drive into Pro Tools LE for editing.
But I'm curious if "compatible" means that I'll be able to open my projects recorded in a Pro Tools studio in Logic Pro later on or if it means that I could use Logic Pro with the Pro Tools HD interface in the studio and record directly into Logic Pro? The studio manager told me that all the studios are equipped with Powermac G5s and everything I need will be there, but I want the ability to take my stuff away on a FW drive (oh, another question...any recommendations on firewire drives?) and work independently on my own system. Which leads to my next question....
In my email to him, I also asked about the importance of owning a laptop over a desktop and he said it wasn't imperative to have a laptop since the studios were equipped with Powermacs. I know if money wasn't an issue the Powermac is the best choice for audio production, but I am a student, and I cannot afford to buy a Powermac with sufficient RAM plus a display.......I was highly considering a Macbook Pro, but after realizing that I would be carrying my hard drive around more than my computer, it has me wondering about an iMac. I know the 2 gb RAM limit is a downfall for this system, but I would have that limit in the MBP also, so that doesn't affect anything between comparing the two. I have configured both systems with the education discount and Applecare:
15" MacBook Pro: $2,898.00
-2.16GHz Intel Core Duo
-2GB 667 DDR2 - 2x1GB SO-DIMMs
-100GB Serial ATA drive @ 7200 rpm
-MacBook Pro 15-inch Widescreen Display
-SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
-AirPort Extreme Card & Bluetooth
-Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
-AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro/PowerBook (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll
-15.4-inch TFT Display
20" 2.0 GHz iMac: $2,056.00
-2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2x1GB
-250GB Serial ATA drive
-ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM
-SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW)
-Keyboard & Mighty Mouse + Mac OS X - U.S. English
-Accessory kit
-AppleCare Protection Plan for iMac - Auto-enroll
-20-inch widescreen LCD
-2GHz Intel Core Duo
-AirPort Extreme
-Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
So, with portability no longer being a great concern, for system performance, which would be the best system? I will be using Pro Tools LE 7 for editing/mixing and Logic Pro for MIDI/creating music with virtual instruments. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
12 Powerbook w/Superdrive; 512mb; 80gb; Airport Mac OS X (10.4.7)Hey Scott.
Check out the "Benchmark Song 2" thread on this forum. That will show some performance test on different computers.
About the choice of computer, well, all I can say is get the best of what you can afford. Logic runs nicely on both those machines by all reports. I would also like to say that the Mac Pros (new Powermacs) should be out before the end of the year and will smoke both of these computers. And the price should be comparable to the MacBook Pro.

How do I get Pro Tools MP9 to work with Mt. Lion 10.8.2?
I have Pro Tools MP9 installed on my IMac 27" and just today I upgraded my system software from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Now my Pro Tools has all kinds of problems. The system software doesn't recognize the M-Powered USB audio interface or any other hardware hooked up to my Pro Tools! Safari runs real slow and had I had any idea this was going to happen, I'd have not upgraded anything as everything was working so well before. Anyone else out there have this same problem or is there anyone that can help me solve this dilema?
You might get more relevant help by contacting Pro Tools tech support. It may be as simple as an update to bring compatibility for the latest version of OS X, or some other procedure, but they would have the best info on this.

Can anyone please help me. I was running Mac OS 9 and Pro Tools 5.1 on my Mac G4. I needed to upgrade to add a new piece of equipment. So I was told to update to Mac OSx 10.3.2 and Pro Tools 6.0. Since doing so, when I try to open my Pro Tools, it opens, but when I try to open a new session, I keep getting a small screen that says I must restart my computer. AFter restarting and repeating the above, I get the same message over and over. I tried updating to Mac OSx 10.3.8 and the problem is still occuring. Can anyone out there give me some advice on what to do next??? Thank you!!!
Hi Susan,
I dont know what the specific issue is but will try to be helpful anyway.
If this were my problem the first thing I would assess (preferably from Digidesign) is - is PT 6.x known to be compatible with Mac OSX 10.3.x ?
Once this hurdle has been cleared, and assuming that the compatibility is there,
then I would want to know if your install/upgrade to 10.3.8 is 'clear'. Meaning, you've run Disk Utility *from the Panther Retail install disk* and DU is showing no errors, either with Permissions or with "Repair Disk". The logic being an app cant be expected to work right on top of an OS that isnt even healthy.
Next, you say PT launches. You seem to imply that either:
a. File/Open/sessionX
or
b. 2x clicking a session
causes some kind of window to appear. Is that a PT related window or OSX type window ?
Does the window occur with either a. or b. above or with only one method or what ?
Can you do a "File / New ..." and not see the window appear ?
Best,

Logic Pro X compatibility with mbox 2 mini and 2009 core duo macbook
I currently have Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 and an Mbox2 Mini, both of which amazingly still work on Mountain Lion 10.8.4. I'm interested in learning Logic and am trying to confirm compatitility with the Mbox2 Mini on a first generation core duo Aluminum Macbook (2.4 Ghz) running 4gb of RAM. The system requirements just say 10.8.4 or later with a 64 bit processor. The Macbook runs fine, and I primarily just record stereo piano tracks, so it's not like I'm going to have 16 tracks running on it. Anyone using an Mbox2 Mini, and any issues with the hardware?
It's not an external device's compatibility with LPX that matters...
It's your external hardware's compatibility with whatever OS X version you are using to run LPX in.... that is important.
Im guessing you upgraded OS X about the same time you switched to LPX?
So....
Make sure you have installed the drivers and software from this page....
http://www.apogeedigital.com/support/quartet#tab-id-1
Failing that, contact Apogee support for further assistance
http://www.apogeedigital.com/support/contact-support
Note: Why is it showing Duet and not Quartet briefly? Are you sure you installed the correct drivers or did you, at one time have a Duet?
Additional: You might want to try this.. though I doubt it will fix things... but this can cure all kinds of weird issues...
Delete both the main plist and the CS file...
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Logic Pro
In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
Press the Go button.
Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
Restart the computer.
Note: if you cannot find either of these files you didn't follow the instructions exactly as described -
DOES MAC OSX 10.6.8 WORK WITH PRO TOOLS 9HD?
I'VE UPGRADED MY OPERATING SYSTEM TO OS X 10.6.8 AND HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH PRO TOOLS 9HD EVER SINCE. IS ANYONE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE AND ARE THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS? IF I NEED TO GO BACK DOWN TO OS X 10.6.7 TO RUN PRO TOOLS, HOW WOULD I DO THAT. BUT MY MAIN CONCERN IS, IS THERE ACTUALLY A COMPATIBILITY ISSUE WITH OS X 10.6.8 & PRO TOOLS? AND INFORMATION OR KNOWLEDGE ON THE SUBJECT MATTER WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I am planning on using Pro Tools on a W500 or W510 (I don't have one right now but I'm planning on getting one). I went to check the Avid website to find out more about compatibility and in the “Qualified Windows Computers” page, it said that the T61 is qualified. But I wanted to know if you could use Pro Tools on the W500 and W510 as well.
One reason why I want to use a W series (or a ThinkPad and Lenovo, for that matter) over other computers and why I want to know if you can use Pro Tools on them is because I want to help out Lenovo in developing and marketing their PCs for use by music/audio professionals. I see a lot of people using Apple computers in this field but I want to do something different. I feel like its time for a change. I think that this field could really use and benefit from the quality and reliability of Lenovo PCs.
Has anyone used Pro Tools on a W500 or W510? If you have, I would like to know about your experiences. Does everything work okay? Are there any issues that I should look out for? That kind of stuff.

Macbook, mac mini, and pro tools
Can anyone tell me if it can be done and how to setup a macbook to view and control a mac mini and then use the two computers processors to beef up the processing power to run a pro tools digi 002 rack for recording? I think the digi 002 wants to only see one operating system, but can one computer "borrow" some ram and processor power to help with the pro tools recording needs? Thank you so much for your time.
thinking about maybe switching to a mini later this year depending on what the new ones offer when they're announced.....
If that's what you are planning, wait till they are announced to be in the channel to find out what the mileage is like. You never know what new compatibility issues might arise. Remember with each new release, no Mac can run an older Mac operating system than shipped with it. So any experience we give here today may be vastly different from what you might run into in the future.
Then if people's mileage is not what you want, and it is better on the old, get a refurbished model*:

Note, most Mac Mini users are not running Pro Tools. If you want Pro Tools experience of today, it is better to ask in the Mac Mini forum. If you like, I can ask a moderator to move this thread. -
IMac requirements for Pro Tools 10
Hi guys,
I'm currently working in a music studio as a producer. I've always been a Windows guy but as Pro Tools on the Mac is an industry standard, I need to migrate. I've never owned a mac before. I'm strongly swaying towards the iMac 27" with the 2.7ghz CPU and 4gb of ram. My question, does this system have enough punch for Pro Tools 10? I will often be using 10-15 tracks each with varying VSTs. Would this system struggle?
Many thanks guys :)Hello Joel, & a wam welcome!
27" should do it, but I'd go for the 3.4 GHz i7, add the 2 GB Graphics option, extended AppleCare, & add More RAM yourself, as much as you can afford, up to 32 GB...

If you’re using Pro Tools HD 10, you’ll need a minimum 4 GB of RAM, but 8 GB is recommended (even more will be helpful if you want to use the new Extended Disk Cache functionality in Pro Tools HD 10).

Using M-Audio M-Track OSX Lion and Pro-Tools 7
Hi,
I have a Macbook (OSX Lion 10.8.5) with Pro-Tools 7.0something , my previous Mbox2 mini has alot of noise/interference so its toast likely. I have an M-Audio M-Track I'd like to try, will it work? I just dont want to try the Mtrack (and if it doesnt work) lose my Mbox compatibility too- I'd prefer the noisy one over nothing at all. Any tips would help. Note I havent tried hooking up the Mtrack yet, I wanted advice before messing with anythingHi there @Millert113
Welcome to the Hp Support Forums!
I understand that you are having trouble with your M-Audio Fast Track Pro. From the sound of things I would suspect the problem is related to drivers, since the device was working for you on a Windows 7 machine.
I think it is a matter of finding a Windows 8.1 compatible driver for the device. Take a look at these pages from the manufacturer, and see if anything there helps.
Avid - Search Knowledge Base
Fast Track Pro Drivers
Just look for the correct driver that is for windows 8.1 and then try it. Let me know if that resolved it for you.

Hi!
Did an upgrade to OSX 10.6.8, PTHD 9.04 and Logic 9.1.4, on a 2007 MacPro
(4x2.66 Mhz, 16 GB ram).
Pro Tools seems to be working fine, but Logic!
(32 bit or 64 bit mode)
I can´t record arm a track or do a save as, without Logic crashing.
Has any of you experienced anything like this.
Is it a driver issue? After installing Pro Tools I downloaded the latest HD driver.
Strangely Logic 8.02 now behaves the same way.
I should mention: This Logic is on a volume license.
Could it be I have reached max number of installations?
Also Logic 9 installation was rather quick. Only using the install disk.
I assume this is because most of the content is already there, in Logic 8.
And it is. I don´t, so far, miss any loops or sounds.
Hope you can help. I need to have it up and running by sunday.
(I did ask in DUC as well)
