Pro Tools & Kontakt 3 using converted Giga samples

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
1) Computer
iMac running OSX (10.4.11).
2.1 GHz PowerPC G5
2.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
2) Host
Pro Tools LE 7 (version 7.3)
3) Sample Instrument
Kontakt 3 (version 3.0.2.004)
DFD info:
Channel Buffer Size: 120.0kB
Preload size: 72.00kB
4) Samples are located on an external drive connected via Firewire
Hello,
Used Gigastudio for ever. Recently switched to Kontakt 3 because it converts and plays all the giga files.
When I play instrument thorough pro tools as a plug in sampler instrument everything sounds and plays perfectly. I hear the whole sound of all the instruments. attack and sustain (if I hold down the keys). and when I record the instruments into Pro Tools I hear the whole sound (attack and sustain). And Pro Tools records the proper midi data in the track with the proper length of sustain.
The problem occurs upon playback. Pro Tools only plays the attack and the sustain is lost. I have noticed it on
Nemesys GigaPiano 1GB
Synclavier Keys & Guitars
Larry Seyer Acoustic Bass
Dan Dean Bass
SI Hammond B3
Well.. pretty much everything.

Boy, do I feel like a *******!! I renamed a folder on the aux drive, for "convenience," yeah right. Thanks to David Das on the NI Kontakt forum who asked me the $64,000 question.

John

That sounds like the "Sam Horns" install file for Windows.
.exe is an executable file. But not on anything Mac.
On a Windows machine that would probably install the Sam Horns Giga file to the appropriate directory and may even require some type of authorization.

  • Please Help - Need to convert 400 gigs of giga samples into my EXS24

Does anybody know what would be the fastest and most efficient way to convert 400 gigs of giga file samples from my PC into my logic pro EXS24 sampler on my mac?
I purchased chicken system's translator professional which does batch conversion, but my pc was not working well with that application. I need to find a new way of converting. I know i can convert giga samples one by one in the exs24 but with 400 gigs of giga samples, it could take days and days.
Any ideas wold be extremely helpful.
    Thank you for your time.

CDXtract is gettin' third'ed by me.... However, u r into one heu of a conversion armageddon....
I recently did a huge convertion of my samplecell II lib into AKAI format...
My recommendation is to convert on the fly - meaning - convert what u have to convert when u need it.
And make sure when doing batch convertions that the sample programs u really want to WORK like it did in the GIGA gets special attention... Lots of the conversions done by cdxtract - are indeed converted but attack - decay etc... veries from sampler to sampler although the values are the same

  • Pro Tools convert to Logic Newbie some simple question for logic users

Hey guys, I am a recent convert from Pro Tools! and There were just some simple questions I thought some of you may be able to help me out with. I am using Logic 9.1.1
    1) After I set up a multi timbral software instrument (in this case MOTU Symphonic Library) how do I set up midi channels to trigger the individual sounds in the instrument. (in pro tools I used to create a midi track then send an output of that track to that particular soft synth)
    2) How do I set up a and forgive my Pro Tools vocab but basically I want to set up a reverb channel on an aux track have it receive on a bus so I can send other tracks to that particular bus.
Thanks for the insight and really looking forward to finally make use of all this ram! lol

    1) I have a nord stage and would like record via midi. In pro tools i would usually need to create a midi track with the output set the the nord and an audo aux track to hear it What would I do in order to record midi from my nord stage?
To record, just select a non-audio track, hit record and play the keyboard. The notes will get recorded into a region.
If you want to play it back to the Nord Stage as well, then it makes sense to set the Nord up as a MIDI device in your templates, so you can just add the Nord to a track and not worry about what MIDI ports it's on etc. Open the environment, create a New -> Instrument, called it "Nord Stage", set the MIDI port and MIDI channels it's on, and sav your template.
Now, when you start a song, to sequence the Nord, you just assign the Nord instrument to a track (by for instance, right clicking on a track and choosing your Nord instrument from the list of environment obects that appears).
    2) The multi instrument trick is quick and easy its great but How would I do that manually?
Lots of ways, look into your key commands, ther are all kinds of "Create track with same instrument", "Create track with next MIDI channel" and so on. There are too many ways to do this to quickly talk about here. In short, all tracks have an environment object assigned to them, whether it's an audio object, or a MIDI instrument object, and this determines where the data on the track goes.
    3) How do you set up midi so that it doen'ts overwrite notes when recording over them?
Not sure I understand you here...

  • Pro Tools files imported to FCP X causing QuickTime movie problem

Well 2 days later and hours on the phone with Apple tech support Senior Advisors, and problem still not solved. HELP.
Everything works fine in FCP X, but when I create the QuickTime movie, it is way out of sync (by many seconds).
We have isolated the problem to audio files that I am exporting to Pro Tools, processing, and then importing back into FCP X. I can create a QuickTime movie with the original video/audio and it is fine.
    Information
The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
I simply provide this FYI. As I said earlier, the original video works fine and the resulting QuickTime movie works fine. So the original  files imported into the FCP project are not the problem.
The creation of the problem audio occurs as follows:
    - Detach the original audio from the original video, and export
    - Import this audio into a 48.0 kHz/16-bit Pro Tools HD session and EQ/limit the audio
    - Import the resulting audio into FCP X (exact same length file, audio waveforms aligned with the original audio).
This audio works fine in FCP. It is in sync with the video, everything looks great.
I ran Pro Tools at 16-bits because a senior advisor told me FCP runs at 16-bits but does not convert imported stand-alone audio (as opposed to combined video/audio) to 16-bits; thus the Pro Tools session had to be at 16-bits. I changed from 24-bits to 16-bits, and this didn't solve the problem. (FYI, when Pro Tools imports the original audio exported from FCP, it says the audio is 24-bits, not 16-bits).
    What is the problem?
The basic question is why does this audio cause QuickTime a problem?
Something is going on in the conversion to the QT movie. In FCP X, I don't have a way to play with the conversion variables except to set "Video and Audio" and "Use current settings" (which is ProRes 422).
The only difference I see between the original audio and the Pro Tools audio is that the original audio is stereo and Pro Tools works with dual mono files (L & R). The mono files work fine in FCP and I can't imagine why QT would have a problem with these, but I haven't tried converting the files to stereo before importing into FCP.
I should also mention that I selected the stabilization and roll correction algorithms in FCP. I assume these don't create problems in QT. I mention this because I didn't use them when I tested making a QT movie with the original video/audio files.
FCP and Pro Tools are used together all the time to do exactly what I am doing......improve the sound of the original audio. They are the premier video and audio professional programs. Of course, the final product is often not a QuickTime movie, but many times it is a QT movie.
What the heck is going on???
    HELP.

    (1) It is immediately out of sync. It even appears to be speeded up to me initially, but this is subjective. But it is clearly out of sync throughout, not a gradual drift.
    (2) When I create the audio files in the Pro Tools session, the files are automatically stored in the audio folder of the  Pro Tools session. So I don't actually have to go through an export process. I just close the Pro Tools session, then open FCP X and import the audio from the Pro Tools folder.
I'm not sure what additional specifications you seek, other than:
    - wav files
    - sample rate = 48 kHz
    - Bit rate = 16-bits (and earlier I used 24-bits)
    - Files are dual mono, rather than stereo (name_01.L.wav, name_01.R.wav). As I mentioned above, I have not yet tried converting these to stereo before importing into FCP, to see if dual mono causes an issue with QT. It does not cause a problem in FCP. I will try this today if we don't solve the problem.
    (3) I can upload a portion of the audio to a server and send you a link to the file so you can download it. Is there a way to private message on the forum so I can get an email address to send you the link?
    (4) The original video came from Canon HF M40 camcorder: AVCHD (using MPEG4-AVC / H.264 compression codec), MTS format. Audio is 48 kHz, 24 bits.
I used ClipWrap to rewrap the video into ProRes 422 and decompress the audio and save as LPCM.
The FCP Project was set up at:
    - Starting time code - 01.00.00.00
    - Format - 1080p
    - Resolution - 1920 x 1080
    - Frame rate - 29.97p
    - Audio channels - stereo
    - Sample rate - 48 kHz
    - Rendering format - Apple ProRes 422

  • Optimal Hard Drive Configuration for Premiere Pro CS5 and Pro Tools

I am in the process of upgrading a workstation that is used primarily for multi-track audio recording in Pro Tools to use the following Adobe CS5 products for production of promotional videos in HDV (and AVCHD for the web) as well as printed marketing materials for bands and musicians: Premiere Pro, Encore, Photoshop, Illustrator and Soundbooth.
Since Premiere Pro is probably the most demanding application of the group, I have been studying the suggested hardware configurations on this forum with great interest, particularly HARM's suggestions (including his Generic Guideline for Disk Setup) to determine which hard drives to purchase and the optimal manner in which to configure them.
I am upgrading an HP Z800 with dual quad core 2.44 GhZ processors with hyperthreading (16 virtual cores), 12 GB of memory and an overclocked GeForce GTX 470.  Without setting up a RAID configuration (which I cannot afford at the moment), I would like to use the 4 available HDD bays in the Z800 in the optimal manner for Premier Pro, using currently available drives.  I am currently considering purchasing a 300GB VelociRaptor to use as my C drive because of the extended load times and demands placed on the drive by ProTools and the associated Waves plug-ins.
I would appreciate suggestions to improve my following plan:  C (300GB  WD VelociRaptor) for OS and Programs; D (1 TB WD Black Caviar) for Media and Projects; E (1 250 GB WD Black Caviar) for Pagefile (approx. 18 GB) and Media Cache; and E (2 TB WD Black Caviar) for Previews, Exports and Pro Tools audio files.
I have great respect for the knowledge of the members of this forum and eagerly await your suggestions.
    /Bill

I very much appreciate the responses to my email because I know that all of your time is valuable and that you have chosen to use some of that valuable time to help an unknown individual.  This forum is remarkable because of the wealth of knowledge available and the willingness of so many to assist others.
I now wish to narrow my questions to save you time and so that I can get specific advice.  I may not have not been clear that I have already upgraded to the HP Z800 with dual quad core processors and overclocked GTX 470, primarily for the improved performance it will provide in ProTools.  My question now is how to optimize its performance for Premiere Pro CS5.  Based upon my research, I am considering the following two upgrades, but I am open to other suggestions if they would provide better results at a similar cost
    1. I am considering purchasing a 600GB WD VelociRaptor ( WD6000HLXH) for my C drive on which I would place OS (Windows 7, 64 Bit) and programs in an effort to reduce loading times of large programs.  I have two questions: (1) Are members of the forum seeing a significant improvment in program loading times with the VelociRaptor because I am still not convinced that the price performance of SSD's justifies their use; and (2) There are so many models of VelociRaptors now that I want to be certain that I am purchasing the best version for my needs.  In addition to the usual 10000 RPM speed, this model has 32MB Cache and a 3.5" form factor as well as a SATA 6.0GB/s interface (which I doubt my motherboard can take advantage of but it might extend the useful life of the drive with future configurations).
    2. I currently have available for installation in the Z800 the following drives:  (1) WD 2TB Black Caviar; (1) WD 1TB Black Caviar; (2) Hitachi 1TB.  I believe that the Z800 can accept up to 5 SATA hard drives which I will have if I purchase the Velociraptor.  Although I am reasonably knowledeable when it comes to hardware, I have never set up a RAID configuration.  Therefore, it would be helpful if someone could recommend one of the various RAID configurations and brieflyexplain why it would seem to be best for my needs.  I can then focus my research on understanding that one configuration.
I was planning to follow Scott's suggestion for my current 3 drives:  OS and programs on C (WD 600 GBVelociRaptor), media and projects on D (WD 1TB Black Caviar), export files and Pro Tools files (all live musician tracks, no samples) on E (WD 2TB Black Caviar).  However, I have been reading about the benefits of a RAID configuration so I am interested in further suggestions now that I have clarified my questions.
Thank you all for your help.

  • Audio input disabled after Lion install (Pro Tools, Edirol)

Any ideas? Double-checked all input settings. Edirol (analog to digital device) shows up as an option, but no sound can be recorded. I see the same issue in threads involving Pro Tools.
Using the latest version of Bias Peak. Same issue using Garage Band.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Startup Problems After Pro Tools Installation

    Hi There,
I have a Macbook Pro and just installed Pro Tools 7.3 and the 7.4.2 Mac update. As soon as the update finished, it prompted for a restart. Upon the restart, an opaque gray screen appeared with a message that stated 'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.' I did this, and the same thing has happened each time. I can never get past the initial apple screen during startup. This has never happened prior to my installation and update of Pro Tools 7.4.2.
Any ideas? I'm dying to start working with Pro Tools/Continue using my brand new MacBook Pro.
    Thanks!
    -Devin

Hi and welcome to the discussions, You may need to repair your startup disk. Boot from your install disc and hold "C" down after you hear the tone and release when you see the Apple logo. Choose your language. Then when the install window opens, choose "Utilities>Disk Utility" from the menu bar. Select the startup volume"MacintoshHD" and click Repair Disk in the lower left after its finished, repair permissions then restart.
Hope that cures your Prob, Glynn

  • Logic and Pro Tools

Hello all. I"ve got a few questions concerning Logic and Pro Tools. First, can you trigger Logic's sounds in Pro tools? ie Logic as the "slave" and Pro Tools as the "master" And can you record vocals into Logic using an MBox 2 or is there some other interface I need? If so, what would you suggest?
Thanks in advance for your time

You can use an Mbox2 with logic. If you already have pro tools, or plan on having it in addition to logic, thats what I would do, as both programs can use the mbox2. Although, they can't both use it at the same time. Which leads to this.
It is possible to have pro tools running using the mbox2 while logic is running, using your computers soundcard. I have done this, but I have found no real way to synch them. I've been looking at ways of syncing Logic and Pro Tools together on the same computer, and it seems to be not really doable, although I believe people have done it. A lot of people have one computer for Logic and one for Pro Tools and sync them together with time code, which works really well.
I'm really pretty new to logic, so I'm sure I dont have the best answers,
    Good Luck!

  • Beige G3 with Pro Tools Freezes Every Time I Use PT (why I have the G3)

    Please, if anyone can help....
I GOT my beige G3 running which had died and refused to reboot when last I had tried running Pro Tools. I GOT Pro Tools 6.1 reinstalled and running... and then when I was back in Pro Tools again on my newly-running system, I tried to "Save Session Copy" (including saving audio files), it froze. It seems whenever I ask Pro Tools (specifically, haven't had this problem with ANY other memory-intensive program) to do something even mildly memory-intensive, it freezes. Not just the program freezes, the whole computer does. And once again, the computer then refused to reboot. I tried running First Aid and Repair Permissions and so forth booting from the OS X.2 CD. No dice. I erased the 7.8 gig section (the bootable section) of the hard drive. Tried to re-install the OS. It freezes mid-install every time now. Didn't used to freeze (though always bogged down a bit from time to time). Then I tried erasing the WHOLE 120 gig disk (while weeping bitterly) and re-partitioning the 3 sections (as a Mac-person-who-knows-more-than-me instructed me to do- - was the only thing that worked- - the first section being 7.8 gigs) and reinstalling the OS. Still freezes when I try to install. I have to move the mouse around frantically just to keep the computer from freezing while erasing the drive (this actually works- - moving the mouse around).
I tried putting the 3 sticks of ram in different order- - they worked fine before- -the 3 sticks of RAM collectively add up to 600-something- 1 stick of 128 and 2 of 256 or whatever that amount is- - the 2 were originally bought for a "stripped" blue and white I had bought, but the blue and white makes heinous buzz-beeping sounds when I tried to run it most recently, though it worked for a while before. Also, the beige worked fine before with these same sticks of RAM installed, but this seemed maybe memory-related so I thought I'd experiment...?
Anyway, I have A LOT of extras plugged into this thing. The one that acts the most buggy is the TDK DVD-R drive I installed a couple years ago. The model is "Indi" something or other as I recall. It has always consistently done this weird thing where, after booting the computer, if you eject one disk (it will only eject if you drag to the trash) and insert a second disk (since booting), it will not allow you to eject the 2nd disk until you reboot again. If you drag that 2nd disk to the trash, the CD icon disappears from the desktop as though it's been ejected, but the drive does not physically eject. I just put up with it, because I could deal and there had been so many other issues, and everything was working, this seemed like a non-issue by comparison.
I am also running a PC monitor via a small adapter (not a card). I have a USB PCI card going (which the mouse is plugged into)- never had a problem, but now sometimes the mouse freezes on startup too and won't move and I have to force-power-down with that button on the front as if it didn't boot properly. I have an Audio Media III PCI card in there (for Pro Tools). I have the monitor card in there, but don't need it for this machine. Was trying to test if it worked-- last I tested, it didn't-- I should obviously just pull it out.
Anyway, I'm having a ** of a time getting the OS back on there, and even if I do, once I put Pro Tools back on (the point of doing all of this and using the machine at all), it will likely freeze again and I'll be right back where I am right now. If I can even get there in the first place.
    Please please please help...
Blue and White G3   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Conventional wisdom for installing 10.2 Jaguar is to strip the machine back to the minimum Apple might have shipped in it, Install the OS, then add your extras back in.
Memory seems to be a big issue -- I suggest you use the free DIMM First Aid under Mac OS 9 to scan your DIMMs and be sure they are OK for your Mac, and not too slow:
    http://www.mactcp.org.nz/dimmfirstaid.html
I have found 10.3 Panther much simpler and more pleasant to install (even if you had to use XPostFacto 3.1 to do it) than 10.2 Jaguar ever was.

  • Logic Pro X - Is there a way to convert a sample kick from audio to midi ?

Is there a way to convert a sample that you drag into logic pro for example im using a sample kick for a dance track, and want to use it as MIDI because it a **** of a lot easier to edit than a audio file, is this possible?

    Not exactly.
This site explains MIDI in a straightforward and eay way:
    http://morganstudios.com/Tutorials/MIDI.htm
But for a "solution" of sorts, you can use the EXS24 to sample the kick.
Video of how to add the EXS24 on a track in your project (Logic X):

How to add your own sample to the EXS24 (Don't worry that it's Logic 9):

  • I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

I want to remove the monitor from my 17" Macbook Pro 2008 to use as an external for my Macbook Pro 15" 2012. How can I convert lvds to Thunderbolt and power the monitor?

It's almost impossible.  The new iMacs have a Target Display Mode, but it's built to do that.  Without ripping your screen out, finding an acceptable power supply, frame, and whatever electronics to convert a Thunderbolt signal to the screen, the cost will be much larger than buying a cheaper HiDef monitor that runs with an HDMI to Thunderbolt cable to your MacBook 15.  In fact, you can sell your 17" MBP for a lot of money, unless it's broken or something, buying you a really sweet monitor.
By the way, I found your answer by searching this forum.  I would suggest using the search function here in the futuere.

  • Using Pro Tools 6.8.1 on MacBook Pro. Please Help!

    Hi,
I bought an 'M-Box 2' many years ago that came with Pro Tools LE 6.8.1. I recently have been wanting to use my M-Box 2 on my new computer. How should I go about getting the upgrades for this to work on my MacBook Pro? Should I install this old version (6.8.1) on my computer and then download the upgrade from Digidesign?
    Thank you!

i got it. I fixed it by setting Time Zone in automatically in both iphone and MBC
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences > Date & Time > Date & Time.
    Enable "Set Automatically".
Click the Time Zone tab and confirm the closest city is correct.
do the same in the iphone and it will work
