Pro Tools/Logic bouncing issue URGENT
I have an urgent Logic/Pro Tools question. I've asked several people and searched online but I can't find the problem. For some reason, my bounced Logic files come out as 5 mono tracks in Pro Tools.. but they're bounced as interleaved in Logic. I'm not sure what the issue is.. I have a deadline for this track (Jan 5th) help is REALLY appreciated. Thanks in advance
Quality shouldn't differ between interleaved and separate right/left mono files.
If you want Logic to work like Protools and be more compatible with PT, go into Preferences/Audio and uncheck "Universal Track Mode". Now Logic will use separate files for left/right.
Most DAWs can import interleaved files because they also use them as the main recording option, ProTools has always stuch with single right/left files.

For some reason, I cant open any audio-related applications on my mac.
Ableton live just keeps bouncing in the dock and eventually says (not responding)
Logic wont open.
Reason wont open.
Pro Tools crashes immediately and says "Pro tools cannot be opened because of a problem"
I cant figure it out.
The only thing that MAY affect it is that I installed a digicoreaudio driver, but even so the applications were still working.
The last thing that happned was that I was in ableton, and that I had to force quit it. And now nothing will open.Remove that component accoroding to the developer's instructions, or, if you want to keep using it, refer to the developer for support.

ive always been a bit cloudy on pro tools,
i sorta discoverd for myself that is it a general sequencing program just like logic n that, but ive noticed that theres hardware involved also that is pro tools..
what is this hardware that is involved?
and another question is there a reason why some studios use both Logic and Pro tools on the same system? is there some sort of syncing that can happen?
any info will be much appreciated!
JamesPro Tools focus is and has always been: hard drive recording. It is perhaps the best at this. Pro Tools is a complete studio recording package, in that it includes the hardware. Say you have a studio and want to get a computer recording outfit. You can simply buy a Pro Tools package, and it comes with hardware that is guaranteed to work 100% with the recording software. Plug it in, and go.
Granted, the hardware is overpriced for its specs, and does not work so well with Logic.
Logic: best at midi sequencing and music creation. People scoring films, and creating many other types of music use Logic. You can use Logic as a studio hard disc recording program just like Pro Tools, of course. So Logic is quite good, and works great with lots of hardware.
Pro Tools had thought about dropping midi support at one time. They now boast the great music creativity and midi things you can do with Pro Tools on their website...
Well, there you go. -
I've just started having a few problems when I try to bounce mixes internally in Logic.
I set my locators, set the start and end points etc etc...Everything is fine. Start the bounce, still everything is fine. The status bar starts scrolling, passes my end point and just keeps going!! Indefinitely! Ive tried bounces in different projects and its the same story.
The escape function doesn't work and the only way to regain control of logic is to force quit.
After I forced quit Logic, I checked the destination folder of my bounces a file is there of the bounce but it is just a .tmp file...
any thoughts or help greatly appreciated...
PaulWow, glad I read this earlier today. I had the exact thing happen just now when I tried to bounce a 2 bar MIDI loop to an audio region. I thought the UI was going crazy as it kept scrolling over and over through the entire 130 bars. After a while I hit command-period and it stopped, then took forever to normalize because my 2 bar audio loop was over 900MB in size!!
Why oh why does this happen? Is this normal? If so, why have such an "include audio tail" choice in the first place? -
Pro Tools Bounce to Disk, Import to Final Cut - bizarre sync issue
Hi all,
I've been having so much fun agonizing over this issue I thought I'd let some other people join in the fun. Okay, really, I've got a bounced AIFF file from Pro Tools that doesn't stay in sync when it goes to FCP.
There's a lot of information to cover here, so bear with me.
1) The project is a 123-minute feature. It's made up of 9 separate sequences (which correspond to nine different Pro Tools projects). This problem only occurs on 1 of these 9 sequences. Over the course of about 14 minutes, the audio is about 20 frames shorter than the video. (I know what you're thinking, but there's no pulldown or pullup anywhere. I've checked this extensively.)
2) When I export the video for this sequence from FCP and import it into the Pro Tools project, it syncs perfectly with the Pro Tools audio. No problems whatsoever.
3) This sequence worked fine until recently. It may be worth noting that I had more or less finished this project and left it for a period of a couple months before revisiting it to make the finishing touches, and it's only after revisiting it that the problem has occurred. It may also be worth noting that I had actually done a quick add-on record/edit on this particular sequence at some point during the down period (I needed the sound of footsteps in the snow, so I went and got the sound one day when it snowed, positioned it in the project, mixed it, etc. but then held off bouncing until now).
4) The source is film, and everything - EVERYTHING! - is in 24fps (true 24fps, not 23.98). I've checked the settings in FCP and Pro Tools a million times to confirm that I'm not crazy. It's 24, 24, 24, 24 all the way through. It's also 48K, 48K, 48K, 48K everywhere as well (again, no pulldown or pullup).
5) Something bizarre I noticed that I thought would be the source of the problem, but changing it ended up doing nothing. All the sequences were set to internal clock source. Somehow or another, when I looked at the Session settings for this particular sequence, the clock source had been set to SPDIF. I have no idea how this happened. I don't have any external clock source. At any rate, I changed it back to internal, but that didn't change anything. Still drifts by the same amount.
6) Like I said everything is 24fps/48K. Except that this AIFF file, when it goes to FCP, FCP thinks it's 30fps drop-frame. All the other bounced AIFF files go into FCP as pure 24. This one, despite the fact that I'm doing nothing difference, shows up as 30fps drop-frame in FCP. (Again, this is despite the fact that it's in pure 24fps in Pro Tools.)
7) Okay, here's where it gets really bizarre. The info on this AIFF file, shows the correct duration both in Finder and in FCP. The duration in 24fps is 13:51:15. FCP shows 13:51;19 in 30fps which matches up pretty much perfectly in terms of actual length. It's when I drop it into the sequence that it's off. I suspect this has something to do with putting audio with drop-frame TC into a pure 24fps sequence, but I have no idea how it happens. (How would FCP change the rate of the file for the 24fps sequence without any rendering involved?) Furthermore, I opened the file in peak and it shows all the proper parameters: 24fps, 48K. Only FCP doesn't understand this, and only for this one file out of the nine. (I know I keep saying "the file," but I assure you I've bounced many, many, many of them by now in my troubleshooting.)
Naturally, I suspect it's an issue with FCP. What I really don't understand is why this issue would occur with only this one sequence while the others work perfectly. Like I said, there are a couple things unique about this particular sequence (having worked on it a little in the interim and discovering the clock source to have been set to SPDIF), but I don't see how that could lead to this all of a sudden. At any rate, I'd say it's pretty clear that whatever is making FCP read the file as 30fps drop-frame is what's causing the problem, and that if it understood the file as a 24fps file, the problem would almost certainly go away.
For what it's worth, it appears that I can bounce to a Quicktime movie, and that audio will sync up fine, but, well, I'm just not satisfied with using that workaround permanently. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.smack5099 wrote:

I don't know why FCP does this, but it does consider all audio-only clips to be 30fps.

Why? Seems like a perfect solution for you. -
Importing Pro Tools Sessions to Logic Pro
I'm just getting my feet wet in Logic but was wondering if there is any good step by steps out there to help import and open Pro tools sessions into Logic.
Thanks, ChrisThis one always seemed to be an issue. As it's said in previous post, I bounce each track seperately, plus if i was mixing externally and want to keep some of the signl proccessing then you can record an effect, or just record a mix of that soloed track, then bounce it. Import audio into Logic, then quite useful is a function of 'strip the silence' which seemed to be working quite well dealing with precise cutting out all the silences to get rid of all the background noise. Obviously not an ideal way of file interchange, but there are ways to get you way aroud things.

Logic 7.1 and Pro Tools...a few questions...
Hi everyone,
I just have a couple of questions regarding Logic and Pro Tools. My employer has commissioned me to upgrade his studio from Logic 5.0 (mac os version) to the latest version, which is now 7.1.1 (but we may stick with 7.1 just till I'm sure it won't mess up his setup). I thought I'd post just to get a bit of clarification.
Here are the details of his main theatre studio:
Pro Tools 6.4.1
2 x Digidesign 888 I/O Interface
OS X Panther 10.3.5
Dual 1.25 GHz G4
1 Gig DDR SDRAM
I've read and seen a lot of posts regarding big problems running Logic and certain configurations of Pro Tools in conjunction, however until now this has not been a concern for me as my studio is purely based off of core audio Logic 7.1 and Reason 3.03. So here are the main questions I have:
1. How much is the upgrade going to be? Is is just the standard upgrade or is he going to get shafted and have to buy the whole program again (NOTE: he does have the dongle and all the necessary paperwork from Logic 5.0 mac version)
2. Are there known problems with the configuration that I've outlined above, I really don't want to suggest he go ahead and a) upgrade b) buy the the program again if he must, if there is going to be a problem, he predominantly works in Pro Tools and Logic will just be available as an added selling point to his studio, and composition ablity.
Any information about this or clarification would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance,
Graham Campbell
PS - if you need more info to answer don't hesiate to ask.Hi Justin,
thanks for the advice/info...I got the quote for the upgrade it'll be 435 Canadian after tax (Just curious if we order the upgrade will it upgrade to 7.1? or do we need to get that seperate, I was confused by your wording).
As for the setup my employer hasn't used Logic at all in a professional setting. He had 5.0 Platinum in case any of his clients needed it however that hasn't been the case, he said it was working fine though. As for Pro Tools, his setup the one I mentioned above, has been rock solid all the way up to 10.3.9 (which he has on two of his other editing sweets). So hopefully that will be the case for Logic as well. I've told him that I think he'll need to address the RAM issue as I'm sure he'll be suprise how quick Sculpture etc eat up the RAM.
My main concern was wether running Logic not using the 'built in audio' driver but rather say the Pro Tools interface would be incompatible, hope that makes sense I haven't done any Pro Tools with Logic set ups before so the wording may wrong. Thanks for the reply though, cheers,

Logic Express to Pro Tools for mixdown
Hi!
Really sorry if this topic has been covered before, but all I can find on the various Logic boards I know of are ways of doing this in Logic Pro that aren't available in Express.
My band recorded an EP in Logic Express, which was great, but the engineer we'd like to use to mix it is Pro Tools-only. I know Pro Tools can load up AIF files, but the problem I have is that each track has different start and end points. If I gave him the individual tracks as is, we'd be spending all day synching them up.
I've thought of two ways I can prepare the files for him. Please let me know if they're ********.
1) Setting the fader at unity (0) and bouncing each track individually to a 24 bit WAV or AIF file while the rest are muted.
2) Manually cutting and pasting "fake" beginnings and endings of audio information to each track, then using the Glue tool to create a new, merged track. This way, I figure, each track should be in perfect synch with the rest.
Any help appreciated. Thanks! Rufe.Hi,
half ok,
bounce one by one to a folder (mute the other tracks) from the start to the finish, PCM 24 bit (44.1 if you going to make cd's), WAV, SDII or AIFF,
that way, all files start and finish in the same spot, Inside Protools you cut the silence parts and don't forget to place a dither plug-in in the master-fader.
Regards,

Exporting out of Logic to Pro Tools
What's the best way of exporting only vocal tracks out of Logic express 7? I need to have each track as separate .wav or .aiff files and be able to import them into Pro Tools 6.4 for a mix so they're all in time as they were recorded in Logic. I myself don't own Logic, it's the vocalist who uses it.... so I'm going to be going over to get the exports, copy them to disk and bring them back to my studio. What's the easiest way?
The easiest (and very boring) way is to bounce each track in .wav or .aif or .sd2 and then port them into your studio.
A shortcut (but, as quality, it's not the same as bounce) could be to freeze all the tracks and take away the frozen files folder.
cheers

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple offered a refund for users who purchased Logic Pro 9 30 days or less before the Logic Pro X launch, but they don't do it anymore, so if you want to upgrade to Logic Pro X, you have to purchase it in the Mac App Store
Part of this is incorrect...
Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period. There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund. -
Is it possible to open a pro tools project in logic?
Or vise versa?, What can or cannot be done to communticate between these two apps? In olden days, Apple bent over backwards to be compatible with windows apps. Have they done this with logic or are we on our own as far as working with the pro tools bunch? Are there third party applications which can at least partially address opening projects from one platform to the other? I am hoping to find out if anyone has found ways to make this work.
Sadly the only way to share project data other than simply importing consolidated audio is to share the project via OMF.
Apple have had serious issues with OMF, and the last word I heard from apple was that Logic's OMF import was 'mostly fixed'.
Unfortunately, in order to -export- OMF in Pro Tools is to purchase a ($1000) software add on. -
Hi!
Did an upgrade to OSX 10.6.8, PTHD 9.04 and Logic 9.1.4, on a 2007 MacPro
(4x2.66 Mhz, 16 GB ram).
Pro Tools seems to be working fine, but Logic!
(32 bit or 64 bit mode)
I can´t record arm a track or do a save as, without Logic crashing.
Has any of you experienced anything like this.
Is it a driver issue? After installing Pro Tools I downloaded the latest HD driver.
Strangely Logic 8.02 now behaves the same way.
I should mention: This Logic is on a volume license.
Could it be I have reached max number of installations?
Also Logic 9 installation was rather quick. Only using the install disk.
I assume this is because most of the content is already there, in Logic 8.
And it is. I don´t, so far, miss any loops or sounds.
Hope you can help. I need to have it up and running by sunday.
(I did ask in DUC as well)

Pro Tools User Considering Logic Express
Hi Everyone,
I've been a Pro Tools LE user for a number of years. When I read that Avid would be charging $250 for an upgrade to Pro Tools LE 9 (plus $40 for the mandatory iLok) I decided to explore other options.
My main concern is with CPU overload. I recently purchased a new Mac Mini with 8GB RAM, and a Glyph external hard drive. I had hoped that the dreaded Pro Tools 6101 CPU overload errors would be a thing of the past, but even with a much more powerful computer, the errors continued, and most frustrating, there would be no rhyme or reason. I could play a 16-track project with no problems, but it would choke on a file with no more than 7 or 8 tracks. Extremely frustrating when you are losing creative time to constantly troubleshoot.
Are there any former Pro Tools users out there who have had similar issues? Have you had any better luck with Logic?Hi,
don't know about Pro Tools, but CPU overload usually has to do with a too low buffer setting, and it's the same in Logic. So, in Pro Tools, try to find a preference where you can set the audio buffer to a higher value, and the CPU overloads should be history.
You should not switch DAW's only because of CPU problems. Ask in the PT forum for other solutions. You should only switch if you need the other features of Logic.

Running Pro Tools and Logic Simultaneously
I've been using Logic and Pro Tools together for a while now. I pretty much only use Logic as a Virtual Synth Rack and records the audio into Pro Tools. I use the CoreAudio of my computer with Logic and plug the output of my computer right into the Digi003 rack that I use for Pro Tools. Recently I started running into an issue where I can't use Pro Tools with any other audio/soft synth program. When I do the secondary program starts to make noise as if a MIDI note is being sent to it. It only happens when I have Pro Tools open. It happens when I open Logic, Garagband, MainStage, and any Standalone VSTs. It's frustrating because I'm not able to use Logic the way I used to. Whatever patch I have open, Pro Tools will force it to start playing a low pitch drone which I haven'tbeen able to stop.
I'm currently using Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 and Logic Pro 9.1.5Logic makes this easy with a command under the File menu to export regions as files (works with midi tracks, too) and another one to export all tracks as audio files (or similar - not at my Mac now).
Once exported, they're easy to import into Protools. This is easier than OMF, but probably not as complete. At least you don't have to buy Digitranslator to do it this way. -
Pro Tools sees Logic BWF Timestamp as "Out of Range"
Does anyone know why the timestamps of BWFs bounced from Logic 7 are showing up as "Out of Range" when trying to spot them in Pro Tools??
This has really screwed me over.
Thanks!PS -- not all of them. About half. I'm not bouncing them, so I can't say for sure that some circumstance is not changing for the various bounces . . .

Can I check that my iphoto book was delivered?
I am trying to verifiy that my iphoto book was delivered... It was a gift and I haven't heard from the recipient, but I would like to know if it is delivered rather than ask her. Is there a link to iphoto book order histories? Or such? Thanks Tom
