Pro Tools Missing  audio file message syndrom exists on Logic

I come from Pro tools and i am a bit traumatised by this fkn Pro Tools missing audio file message for those who know what i mean..
Is it something possible and frequent in logic when we work on a daily basis ?

No, you simply copy the entire project folder to a flash drive and bring it home. If you have included the audio files in the project folder, which logic does by default, logic will find them just fine at home. If it asks where they are, you just hit "search" and if they're there, If you've copied the song file to your drive without including the audio files ("pilot error") then  the program can't find them. Often, I get protools sessions from clients with missing files. Sometimes the entire audio files folder is missing, but more often the missing files are out-takes that are no longer part of the arrangement, and were still in the audio file list of the song, but were not included in the folder when the project was copied and brought to me. How or why, I cannot tell you.

  • Logic Pro missing audio files and instrument patches

    Good morning
Last week I downloaded  Logic Pro version  9.1.8 from the App store.
I have downloaded all the additional copntent listed
I am running a brand new IMAC with OSX10.8.2
The instrument choices and patches show up.....
However  many of the audio files and instrument patches are missing.
Prerecorded songs can be loaded but...
When I open a logic song (recorded on my prior IMAC) and recorded within Logic Audio 9.0.0, I get consistent messages such as
    EXS24 Instrument "Classical piano.exs"  Audio file "BDorfer f O d#.aif not found.
This happens with most most of the patches.
    Many thanks for your help

The only things missing from the App Store version compared to the Boxed set are the loops and samples that came as part of Soundtrack Pro and those are no longer available..
However, the sample you mentioned is actually part of the GarageBand Library.... Did you install GB too?
If you did so... then... three things..
    First, try using FindAnyFile
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
(Download the version on that webpage and not the App Store version)
..and do a search for BDorfer.. (Just that and nothing else) and see if it finds your missing file.
If it doesn't find it.., install GB and try again... (You may need to rebuild Spotlight afterwards as described below)
If it does find it then..
Two.. rebuild GB's Loop index as this fixes all kinds of weird things in Logic... (and yes, i know its loops not samples but it's worth trying based on past experience fixing these kinds of issues)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2443?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    and... if that doesn't work..
    Three... Have you reindexed Spotlight?
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/17/rebuild-spotlight-index/
Logic uses Spotlight to find everything it needs.. so that is worth a try too if everything else fails..

  • FCP into STP missing Audio files

I have been working w/out STP for a couple of years now and have been getting by okay. Now I am looking to take advantage of STP "streamlined workflow"
I can't even bring my project succesfully into STP from FCP, majority of sound won't send into STP.
I believe it is some type of setting in FCP and or STP.(audio effects originaly exported from stp into fcp will cross apps, audio taken from tape will not, sony xd sound will not)
    Any Ideas

    • When you opened the Song, did it tell you that files were missing (in which case, it would give you the opportunity to search for them)?
    • Did you Save the Song when you finished the recording session (because if not, it won't know you recorded anything new)?
    • Did you record onto a removable hard drive?
    • Did you delete Regions in the Arrange Window & choose the wrong option, thereby deleting the actual audio files themselves rather than just the Regions?
There are many, many ways to go from here, so answer these questions first & we'll take it from there. The more detail you can give, the easier it will be to find out what happened & what to do about it.

  • Missing Audio File

I worked on a project (Logic 8) a few months ago...everything was great...recorded some audio, did some editing, hid some tracks, exported an MP3, removed unused audio from the bin, everything was great and dandy.
I opened the same project last night and received the message that 1 audio file cannot be found. It happens to be the audio file that was on the hidden track. Since I emptied my recycling bin months ago, I fear that this very important file is lost forever.
Anyone know how I can get this file back?

    stevetothink wrote:
My backup runs every few days with a mirror image of the drive. So, the backup has the same problem.
Re-recording it is not an option. It was a one time shot.
Maybe this is a good time to consider a better backup situation.
I try to follow this rule :
Backup in three different hard drives, and at the end of the project, make DVDs.
As far as the backups are concerned, I do what is called an Incremental backup, which keeps EVERYTHING, including bad takes, non-utilised material, demos, etc. It is all there. 99% of the time, nothing needs to be recovered.
But then there is this 1% chance, the 1% your stuck in... where you need something back.
If you want to use a dedicated software for this, you can use Retrospect, which I use, and has the Incremental Backup option, which adds all New files and copies all updated files as new ones as well, in order to keep EVERYTHING.
    Cheers

  • Is it possible to save a Logic Pro document without audio files?

Everytime I choose save as package with the include audio files option deselected the package is always saved with audio files included anyway! Has anyone found a way (other than manually copying the document) to do this in Logic Pro? Thanks.

Yoi should be able to do so.. but unfortunately, for some unknown reason.. you cannot at this time.
Selecting or deselecting the 'Include audio files' option makes no difference... so one can only assume its an unfixed bug at this time.

  • 2 Questions: Missing audio files...and How to delete audio files

I have two nagging issues associated with my podcast at iTunes.
First, audio files are missing from the podcast. Everytime I post m4a files to my podcast, they are added to an xml file, and to the podcast. The xml file is complete, but some files are not making the trip to the podcast.
Second, I have a need to delete some of the audio files which appear in my podcast. How do I do that?
    Thanks!

As has been suggested you can encourage people to download QuickTime player by doing something like this...
    http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/Songs.html
You can also present your songs like this...
    http://roddymckay.com/Satellite/JukeBox.html
This is a SnoCap jukebox and you need an account to use it but you'll get the link to ESnips on the above page.
A 3 minute song has a file size of about 30 Mb in AIFF format. Converting it to MP3 reduces it to about 3.5 Mb and M4A to about 5.5 Mb.
iTunes will do these conversions for you and M4A is far superior to MP3 as far as sound quality is concerned.

  • URGENT! Missing audio files from a live recording due to Logic crash

    Hi,
yesterday, in the middle of a (low budget) live recording, Logic gave me an error message saying "disk too slow" and stopped recording.
I was using the internal drive. I know this is not a proper habit, but I would have never thought that Logic could complain about the drive slowness with 2 tracks/24bit/44,1khz. Instinctively I pressed * at once but this caused the sequencer to start recording back from bar 1, making the previous 27 minutes of recording disappear, even from the audio files directory.
Is there anything I can do to recover the two AIFF files and avoid lots of swearwords from the customer?

    Thanks for the sympathy musicspirit...
About Logic crashing... Actually, Logic didn't "crash", that is, the application didn't quit. It only stopped recording, displaying that "disk too slow". If truth be told, the timeline remained red, it stopped recording the two tracks. Then I pushed the "record" key and it started recording back from bar 1. As soon as I realised that it wasn't displaying the previous 27 minutes of recording anymore, I stopped the transport and something even more strange happened... Logic rendered the overview of the newly recorded two audio regions and started prompting error messages about one of them being an 8-bit audio file. Moreover, I had the Roger Nichols Inspector plugin open and in the meantime it went crazy too, displaying "9999" in the clips/consecutive clips/etc. counter.
I was listening with my headphones plugged into my Fireface and I can tell you that the audio coming from the soundcard was perfect during the Logic "crash". It never stopped, clipped, popped or anything similar.
About the audio path, audio file name... I always double check the audio recording path before starting a recording and it was exactly where it should be.
After the crash I recorded the second part of the gig on an external FW hard drive and everything went smooth. I simply can't find the audio files of the first 27 minutes anywhere on the drive. However I found out pieces of them with Data Rescue II among deleted files, but they are corrupted (interrupted by pink noise and square waves - BTW I plan to save one of them labelling it with "how an audio file dies").
It is really strange that such a powerful program (as Logic is) doesn't save an audio file if for some reasons it stops recording and you press record again...

  • Missing audio file stuffs up Magic band

Opening Magic GB and I get "Hollowbody Rhythm caf. not found" .Skip this and the create window opens up to show all instruments are missing. Got any advice please?

I opened a new song '1.band' in GarageBand, recorded
a track, saved 1.band and then saved 1.band as
'2.band'. I then deleted the track I had recorded and
recorded a new track. Then I saved 2.band. When I
tried to re-open 1.band I received the error: "Audio
file 'Recording#01.aif' not found", I clicked
'Search' and GB returned the same error but only
listed 'continue' as an option. 1.band opened and had
a dummy file where I had recorded audio. I then
    looked in the media folder of the 1.band package;
there was no .aif at all. I looked in the media
folder of the 2.band package and there was only the
.aif that belonged with that song.
Is there anyway of recovering the .aif for 1.band?
I've tried using Spotlight to locate Recording#01.aif
to no avail. This file happens to be an irreplaceable
field recording so ANY help is greatly appreciated.
Did you also empty the trash? If not, it is probably still sitting in the trash. I usually leave stuff in the trash a few days or more before I empty it, just to be sure I didn't delete something I shouldn't have.
HT's advice is certainly correct for future recordings, as always.

  • MPEG1 Muxed - MISSING AUDIO FILES

I have a few QT clips that are MPEG1 Muxed. When I import into FCP all I get is the video file and not the audio file. Is there a way obtaining the audio files from a Muxed clip?

Rather than demuxing with MPEG Streamclip , this demuxing advice which is tirelessly offered to many who then have no idea what to do with separate video and audio stream files, use MPEG Streamclip to export the MPEG-1 to DV and let it do the work for you in one pass. It can export to all QT formats and DV and you get the video and audio in a ready to use file. Better no?
Keep in mind MPEG-1 which is typically 352X240 at <30 fps will suffer a lot quality-wise when upsampled to 720X480 at 30 fps. There is not much data there to work with.

  • The audio file is not recognized by Logic. Can't import audio files?

    Hi,
The audio files are on my desktop. Logic 9.1.1 will not recognize them and gives me this message when I try to drag and drop OR Import Audio File OR use Audio Bin.
As far as I know, I am using wave files (extension .wav). So what could be the problem. Here's a picture of how the files look on my desktop.
The regular silver and blue iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
The black iTunes icons look like this when I Get Info:
Importantly, the black iTunes (only 2 out of the 18 audio files) are the ones that actually import. Does it have something to do with the fact that it shows under "More Info > Audio Channels 1" vs. the silver and blue iTunes .wav files (which do NOT have this)?
Furthermore, here is the process I used to get the audio files in the first place. On my PC, I exported audio files from my Ableton Live project onto a thumbdrive. I copied the audio files from my thumbdrive to my Mac. Maybe this had something to do with it.
Also, as you can see, under Sharing and Permissions > there is only "read and write" for all names, so it's not a permissions thing.
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your reply.
+Can you play them as Preview (select in Finder, hit spacebar)?+ No. The black iTunes icons play with no sound and the silver and blue iTunes icons do not even come up in Preview at all.
+Will iTunes play them?+ Only the black iTunes files (2 out of the 18). When I click on a silver and blue icon'd file, it will not even open in iTunes.
why on the desktop? it was just a temporary thing. I was not able to pull them into my Audio Bin. I tried what you suggested. I put the files in the Audio Files folder of my project. When I go to open them from within Logic by Import Audio File, they are visible but greyed out. I don't use the desktop except for testing stuff like you do.
+How was the thumb drive formatted? FAT32 or other DOS-format, or Mac OS Extended (HFS)?
+the extension is not where apps look to recognize an audio file format, it is the header data. Some audio programs can read RAW audio files, but more about that after your reply to this one.+ It is formatted MS-DOS (FAT 32).
(*I wrote all this stuff above while I was working and waiting for the PC to write to my thumbdrive again*******finally I got everything to show up.
I loaded the files again from the thumbdrive. This time they were all in the black iTunes format, and I put them directly in the Audio Files folder like you suggested. After some doing everything works fine. Weird.
    Thanks!

  • Corrupt audio file prevents me from opening Logic project file

    Hello,
I've been running Logic 8 for a couple years off my MacBook and have never encountered any significant problems of file corruption until recently.
The issue I encountered is this:
I've been producing a lengthy track in an on-going Logic project file for some time and after completing a recording session I saved and started deleting excess track copies to clean up my arrange window. Upon doing so Logic unexpectedly crashed.
After attempting to reopen the project file, it started its normal process of loading its respective audio files, but now it hangs on one particular audio file indefinitely (I'll refer to it as 'audio file x' for ease of reference), freezing and crashing Logic as a result. All of this project file's auto backup files are also incapable of being opened without giving me the same result and crashing Logic.
I have no way of opening this project file and getting at my most recent saved sequence!
I've tried removing this corrupt 'audio file x' from the project's audio folder and dragging it to the desktop, but this had no effect and I still can't open any recent version of the project file.
Older saved copies of the current project file do still open though (most likely because they were saved prior to the corruption caused by this suspect 'audio file x.') When opening an earlier iteration of the project, I get a message '1 invalid audio region found' (I assume referring to the corrupt suspect 'audio file x' that I removed to the desktop) but the project file is still able to open.
I realize I could import the audio files from the most recent version of the crashed file to an older project version and reconstruct things back to the way they were, but it would take me a lot of time and I'm hoping there may be some way to recover the un-openable project file by getting it to stop looking for this corrupted 'audio file x' on startup.
When I click 'show package contents' of the Logic Project file, I notice two items labeled 'displayState' and 'documentData.' From my troubleshooting I've come to the basic understanding that the 'documentData' file contains all the sequence data and settings for its respective Logic Project file.
I think the 'document data' of the unopenable project file in question may be corrupt because whenever I replace it with the 'document data' from an earlier Project file version, the file is able to open. This doesn't do me much good though, because it's document data from an earlier iteration of the project and I need to be able to get at the current sequence I had right before my file crashed.
Is there anyway to open a project file without letting it load its audio files? Or is there anyway I could get inside the 'document data' file to delete the reference/pathway in its audio bin to the corrupt 'audio file x' its hanging on?
Any insights would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping there's some way I won't have to repeat a couple days worth of work. Thanks for your help!

    stooby3535 wrote:
After further troubleshooting I've realized that the suspicious audio file that prevents the project file from opening is actually not corrupted itself. I can still play the audio file in other media software like Quicktime, etc. with no problem.
This leads me to believe the problem opening the project file lies solely with the corrupted 'documentData' file.
Does anyone have any ideas about how I could somehow open this project file and delete the reference of the troublesome audio file from the project's audio bin?
Well... it really sounds like the project itself is corrupted, that's one of the reasons all project files won't load from a certain point on.
    Try this.
    Reboot the Mac.
Open the Applications folder and boot Logic from it's icon.
As soon as the Logic Logo/graphic window appears on the screen hold down the control key. You will see a message pop up that says something like "Launch the Core Audio Driver" there will be yes/no choice available... select NO.
Go to the File menu and selct "open" go find your project file and see if it will open. If it does.. delete the audio file in question... however.. I would also look at any plugins you recently installed and are possibly using in this project...this sounds more like a plugin problem rather than an audio file problem, but that's just a gut feeling.
Anyway, if it opens delete whatever you suspect and save under a different name.
Reboot Logic and see if it can load the project.

  • Export as audio file functioning differently on two Logic 9 installations

    Hi all,
We are exporting regions as audio files one at a time. On one machine, we have file conversion information, including the Apogee dithering, and after we name the file, it appears in the head of the region. This is the setting we need.
In another installation, using the same command, we don't get the file conversion information (no dithering options) and the name on the region stays the same.
We have the same operating system (10.5.8), same Logic number (9.02), same interface (Apogee). I am assuming that I have settings somewhere on one computer that isn't on another, but I can't seem to find them.
    Thanks.

Evidently it's not giving the user a choice at installation?
It does.. but it words it along the lines of 'Have you used Logic Pro in the past?" kind of thing....
So an experienced DAW user that hasn't previously used Logic, would get the limited installation.
The more people you try and and protect from themselves the more generic (i.e. limited) the solution.
Religion would be a good example of this.
