Proapps

hi first of all i have to say that i found this forum very useful and have to thanks everybody...
i wrote about few problems on my probook in a previous topic (overloading, etc...)
but to be honest logic 7.2.3+osx 10.4.9. seem to be stable now and crashes are very rare...
though im working on few simple projects and i'm still diggin deeper...
i read a lot about proapps... but after a quick search i haven't found how it really works...
as i said i know logic quite well but i'm still discovering mac system because i was a pc user.
anyone can tell more about it.
tnx in advance

As far as I know, Pro Applications is a description that covers the more upmarket Apple software (Logic, Final Cut, Soundtrack Pro etc).
From time to time a free Pro Application Support software will be released to improve stability and efficiency of the engine which they use. These updates seem to contain small but often highly important fixes.
Unfortunately many people are not aware of the importance of keeping their Pro Apps Support up to date and Apple have been rather reticent in pointing this out imo.
H.t.h,
Paul.

  • FCPX, Motion5, Compressor4 won't open after ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?

When I try to open either of these 3 apps the system tells me they can't open because they are currently being updated.  Software Update shows my system as needing no update.  The last update that it shows was for ProApps Codecs v1.0.5.  I am running a macbook pro / OS 10.9.3.
The manual download for that update, (ProApps Codecs v1.0.5), is a dead link, (http://images.apple.com/support/not_found.html).
I have one of the new black mac desktops with the exact same setup as my laptop.  It's software updates list shows an update for the 3 apps I am having trouble opening on my laptop as having successfully installed.  All 3 apps are working fine on the desktop system.
    Anyone know how to either:
    - trash my preferences on the laptop to force system update to reinstall the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
    - fix the broken link at support.apple.com so I can manually install the ProApps Codecs v1.0.5 update?
    - or perform some kind of Voodoo that will get my FCP, Motion, and Compressor opening again?

In the App Store, pull down the Store menu and ‘Check for Unfinished Downloads…’

  • Need to compress XDCAM in compressor 4.1.3. Installed ProApps, but no XDCAM selection. How do I proceed?

I'm normally a linux user, using Mac to get some sample FCP-produced clips.
    I have FCP 10.1.3, Compressor 4.1.3 on OS X 10.9.5.
    I've installed ProAppsCodecs.dmg.
After installation of the proapps codecs, I didn't find the xdcam formats in the list of choices.
Shut down and restarted FCP and Compressor, xdcam still missing.
Shut down FCP and Compressor, re-installed the proapps codecs, restarted FCP and compressor, xdcam still missing.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4714 indicated SoftwareUpdate... should be run; that required a restart.
20 minutes later, started FCP and Compressor, xdcam still missing.
Ran through the combinations of starting/stopping FCP and compressor and reinstalling the proapps codecs above (on the theory that the reboot maybe could enable things). Xdcam still missing.
I'm out of ideas, anyone know how to add XDCAM to compressor?

I tried "this", but it let to a page containing only the word "Gone".
I ran wget on that link, which reported the same:

If you can view a ProRes 4-2-2 video at all, then you either have the independent ProRes422 Playback component installed or the FCP "Pro" video components installed.

Check your "~/Library/QuickTime" folder for your various "Pro" components. If in doubt that you have them all, re-run the FCP installer and it should add any missing components, apps, or utilities.

  • No Soundtrack Pro or ProApp updates for Logic Studio users?

I attempted to download updates for Soundtrack Pro and the ProApp update but was asked for a Final Cut serial number - - whichm as a Logic Studio owner I do not have. So what's up - - are these updates not signifcant for those who purchased and use Logic Studio? Please advise.

You shouldn't need to go to the download page, just run software update and it should show up. Do any OS and Pro App updates first, the STP upgrade won't show up there until you do.

  • Do not update Proapps Quicktime Codecs 1.0.4 on Mavericks

    Hi there,
I'm on a nMac Pro, 12 core, 64GB RAM Mavericks 10.9.1 and the latest versions of AE and Premiere.
I recently (today) updated my Quicktime proapps codecs from 1.0.3 to 1.0.4 at the prompting of Apple updater and it has broken AE and Premiere.
The Adobe QT32 server does not respond once either of these apps are opened and when I try to save my project in AE, the save dialogue gets to about 50-80% and then I get the spinning wheel of death, the system freezes up (although not completely, I can still move things around a bit and the clock still ticks forward) and I have to hard restart.
I'm on the phone with Apple Care right now trying to figure out a way to revert back to 1.0.3.
Any help with that process would be appreciated.  I can't find Proapps Quicktime codecs 1.0.3 anywhere on the web.

"At this point do you think the problems are related? In other words, would the same problem have occurred if you did not install the ProApp codecs update?"
I think that's a safe assumption. I have a 100% motion graphics comp that I've been working on that AE chews through pretty easily in multicore, it think it's just not digging the ProRes.  I did have a mograph comp that AE was chewing through, but not anymore :/  This was on my internal drive though, soooo. . .
There may also be an IO component at work here as well.  I'm not working off internal drive on the Mac Pro, rather a USB3 external and I was reading and writing to the same drive.  I'm going to try writing to the internal and see if that doesn't alieveate things a bit.
So now it's just spinning wheels of death all the time.  I'm trying to view a single frame in the comp panel after adjusting and replacing some footage in a screen fill pre-comp and it's just hanging.  I've pressed caps lock to try and free it up, not working.  Nothing is really working.
I've adjusted the RAM settings, allocating more RAM to background processes.  I've probably hard restarted my machine twenty times today.
I'm turning off multicore completely.  What a let down today was.

  • ProKit vs. ProApp

    Ahoy Hoy,
I'm about to take the plunge with one of my edit suites, currently on 10.4.11, QT7.2, and FCP 6.0 (I need that XDCAM upgrade).
Does the ProKit upgrade include the latest ProApps upgrade? Also (pardon the dumb question, it's been a long time since I've upgraded - current setup was a fresh install on a new tower) Do later versions of upgrades include previous ones? i.e. Can I go straight to QT 7.4.2 or do I need to install 7.4.1 first? I'm sure it's the prior but I just want to be sure.
I'm going to make the Leopard jump as well (I'm fully cloned)...
    Excellent.

Not sure I understand you completely but, put the new OS disc in and do a clean install. When that is done run software update and download and install all the updates listed in software update (restart). Then install FCS (restart). Run software update and install all updates again (restart). And don't forget to re-set all your preferences.

  • QuickTime died after ProApps QT Codecs update to 1.03.  Help

Just installed ProApps Quicktime Codec updates to 1.03.  Now Final Cut Pro and Quicktime won't play any video.  The screens are blank.  What gives???  Can this update be reversed?  We are on Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  Is there a migration upward solution?  Frustrated.
    Thank you.

    As noted earlier:
Something in the 1.0.3 ProApps Codec update appears to have broken the XDCAM/MPEG decoder  for users running Snow Leopard (10.6.x). Sony is discussing with Apple to see if there is a fix. At present the only possible workarounds are updating the OS or reverting to a backup that does not contain the latest update...
Thanks for the confirmation, StevenEsq.. We are seeing the same thing here and are speaking with Apple re the possibility of a fix.
It was replacing the QT folder that brought the decoder back to life. The XDCAM plugins all utilize Apple-supplied codecs even though XDCAM is strictly speaking a Sony format. Installing the Sony plugins only adds FCP Sequence Presets and import/export/re-wrap capability. It does not put the codecs onto the system.
Hope to have an update on this soon..

  • Any problems? ProApps QuickTime codecs 1.0.2

I'm running Mountain Lion with Final Cut Studio (FCP 7) as well as After Effects CS5...
ProApps QT codec 1.0.2 update... Before I install it I wanted to see if anyone was having any issues with older software once updated...
If you're running what I have and the codec update didn't break anything let me know!
    Thanks!

Thanks Michael, but I just configured the updates to ensure nothing I didn`t want was installed , and this change of Pro apps installed himself, I did not choose it. And now I can not work with my HDV videos. Do I need any specific codec? Can I erase the last cache of pro apps installs and updates on my computer?
I only want to know how can I continue working...
    Thank you.

  • Upates ProApps Codecs again and again...

    Hi everybody,
Whenever I get a screen with new updates for my MBP, it contains
updates for ProApps Codecs v 1.05.
When I select update it seems to perform a normal procedure, but
the next time this update (1.05) is presented again.
Even if, right after an update, I call the Software Update screen again,
    it is there.
Other Apple updates (OS; iTunes) are fine. Just this codecs thing
    does not stick.
    I use Final Cut Pro.
    MacBook Pro,  OSX 10.7.5.
    Thanks for reading,
    Rob

Well, Tom, thx for your suggestion, but that didn't help. app store support's Pao writes he's looking into it, then immediately tells me that the App Store Support doesn't "deal with these kind of problems". Obviously he tries to make me buy Apple Care....    a bit of lame blabla and off you go, sort the misbehaviour of the software update at my expenses. Thanks APPLE....
    Here their reply

  • Hi, ProApps QuickTime Codecs installers

Whenever I try to install the ProApps codecs I get a message saying sys 10.6 or later. However on the download page it says for 10.5.6 or later / QT 7.6 or later (Im 10.5.8 / 7.6.9)
The page as the screen shot says is for proapps qt codecs v 1.0.1 but when I go to install the Pkg, the disc image says 2.0.1
Even when I go to a third party download site, again it says Im downloading 1.0.1 but get the 2.0.1 instead.
Does anyone have a solid link to the 1.0.1 version?
Or better yet Im just looking for the XDCAM codec.
    I have these .mov files
I actually tried playing these files in VLC. I get the vid but no sound, in QT I get the sound but no vid. In itunes same as QT, sound but no vid.
I downloaded a product called Calibrated{Q} XD Decode.  The files play great but without buying the product ($89) there is a watermark on the vid.
    Thanks Rob

HERE is the solution sent to me by another Apple Community supporter:
I also had a similar problem to most people here. Cannot playback XDCAM files after upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I called Apple who suggested a fresh install of Snow Leopard without upgrading the 'ProApps QuickTime Codecs 1.0.3' and copy the contents of the Library/QuickTime form the fresh install into my QT library. However, I decided to seek the file(s) that is the cause which is the AppleHDV.Component file. I copied the faulty one to my desktop (so I had a backup) and downloaed:
    PerianXDCam.component.zip -> PerianXDCam.component
    PerianHDV.component.zip -> PerianHDV.component
    from this website: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/mcfa0086/discretecosine/164630.html
Once unzipped, copy into the Library/QuickTime folder and this should solve your problem, until Apple and Sony resolve this issue.

  • After ProApps Update (Crash)

Is anyone finding that after installing the latest proapps support, Logic 9 is crashing more ofteN?
    Thanks

Yes, since the pro app update Logic isn't even usable. If I get get it to playback, it makes it 10 - 15 seconds. When trying to change a setting, it locks up and I have to force close. Just had to have a client leave because Logic is down!!!

  • ProApps QuickTime Codecs

I would like to install these codecs to capture prores. The system is 10.5.8. All download links (even the older ones) lead to ProApps 1.0.2 wich do not run on 10.5.8 (it shows on the website that they do, but they quit installation with the info the you need 10.6.x.
Can anyone tell where I can get an older version? (fo.ex. 1.0.1?)

Nope, they're gone from Compressor 4.  Hang on to Compressor 3.4.  Apple really trashed Compressor 4 into a barely usable transcoder, not pro at all, most all of the Pro codecs are gone.  ProRes is in it's own catagory inside the Apple folder.  Of your list, it's the only one left.  I've no clue what Apple was thinking.
AVC-Intra and MPEG IMX were never in the Compressor 3.5 library (I'm looking at it right now), but the rest used to be.
