Probably a noob question, but why does the Mac OSX volume control window...

...randomly pop up sometimes. I think I'm triggering it, but I don't know how.

It pops up when you use a dock and control the volume or when your sliding volume and you press the Home button. Its there so you won't have to navigate to the Music app and see the volume

Actually, another person on the "more like this" had the right answer. It meant I had a notification for an invite that I needed to respond to.
Hope this helps you as much as it helped me.

  • Why does iphone has common volume control for ringer as well as Alarm?

Why does iphone has common volume control for ringer as well as Alarm? which is quite unusual. For Exp, In case i lower down my ringer for some reason instead of silent and forget to increase before i sleep, my morning alarm also remains at the same ringer level volume at which i can miss the alarm. Is it due to some specific reason or i have missed something to change in settings. Other phone like Samsung etc, they have separate volume control for ringer and to an extent, Nokia rings for Alarm even if the battery is completely discharged.

I have booked an appointment at my nearest Genius Bar which is 40 minutes away next week, so do I need a reciept or is the warranty checked from the serial number?
    No receipt needed.
and is it covered under Apple's 12 month warranty?
It very well may be covered, depending on what Apple finds.

  • Probably a stupid question . . . does the iPad come with iTunes preinstalled?

I'm in need ot a portable way to listen to podcasts and type some notes. Due to low vision I cannot use an ipod or iphone.  I have an imac at home.  Does the ipad come with itunes preinstalled, or would I haave to buy it separately.  I know I'd have to purchase another copy if pages, which I have on my imac.

Yes - but the iTunes that comes installed on the iPad is the iTunes Store where you purchase your media. The iPad comes with a preinstalled iPod App and that is where your music library resides and plays on the iPad - not in iTunes.
You don't have to buy either apps for the iPad.

  • Why does the Ni-Motion Torque-Control Program give me such an oscillation???

    Hello,
I really hope to find somee help here...I have a UMI-7744 and I would like to do force control for a servo motor. I have tried the NI-Motion example "Torque Cntrl Using Monitoring Force"...it seems to be quite easy - it constantly measures the current force and compares the ADC-values with the target force. The difference between the two is then new relativ position...
When I test it with an actuator that does not touch the workpiece (current force==>0N) and then tell it to apply 50N (ADC-value of ~1000) then of course it starts moving towards the workpiece, but then overshoots quite significantly when it touches it, then undershoots, then overshoots, then undershoots....etc....
     (1) Apart from the big overshoot, I would have assumed that the failure decreases over time and the force will be maintained at some point, but the actuator keeps on oscilating around the target force with quite high amplitudes.......does any body have an idea for the reason?????....How is it possible that the controller actually approaches the target force, ie. the over/undershoot should get smaller with every cycle...
     (2) I was assuming that the problem is because I load quite large relative positions (1000 - 0 = 1000) while the actuator is not yet in contact with the workpiece which then causes the overshoot when the actuator touches the workpiece. Hence, I tried limiting the relative positions to +/- 100, but it seems that it does not improve anything. The actuator still never maintains a steady force.Any idea, why limiting the relative positions does not have an effect on the oscillation??
    (3) I have seen that the use a delay of 50ms. Hence every 50ms a new target position is loaded. Is there any experience of what the BEST time delay is for motion control???? Is it better to decrease the delay to adjust the relative position more often OR would this have negative effects because the moves don;t have enough time to complete??????
I am grateful for any reply...

    Hi Jochen,
thanks for the clarification on the pros and cons of the two Torque control approaches...very enlightening......
To clarify my previous question: I am using the S200VTS-Servo Drive from Danaher Motion. The drive is able to run in Torque-mode, Velocity-mode and Position-mode. In the latter case it needs a "step and direction" input, instead of an analog input. My idea was to setup the S200-drive in Position-mode because in the "Torque Control using monitoring Force"-example the inner PID loop is for the position...so I thought, why shall I setup the S200-drive in torque mode, when actually the PID-loop tries to control the Position.....you know what I mean? It appeared to me, that with setting up the drive in torque mode and running the example code with the positional PID-loop I am mixing force and position....
Kind regards and thanks a lot for your efforts.
Well, let's take it like that: The second approach is ok, if the dynamics of the torque are very low. The worst case scenario for this approach is a solid actuator pressing against a solid workpiece. When these two pieces meet, a force occurrs almost instantaneously. That means, that very short move distances result in high force differences. With your current approach this means that it's very hard to control the force, as in fact the only way to generate force is to move the axis a bit. If you control the force directly instead (analog feedback), you will get a much better control behavior.
To clarify the idea behind that:
Just think of two metal plates lying on each other on the floor. Now you step on the upper metal plate. Does the upper metal plate move? No. Is there a change of the force applied to the lower plate? Yes.
To summarize: 'Torque Control using monitoring force' works best in systems with very low dynamics and a soft contact between actuator and workpiece. still all the limitations that I have mentioned in my first post are true, so I strongly recommend to use analog force feedback.
Your last statement about running the motor in position or torque mode is not clear to me. Are you referring to operation modes of your drive (by the way, which drive are you using?). In this case the clear recommendation is to configure your drive always in torque mode, regardless of the type of control provided by the 73xx device that you are using. From a drive's point of view 'torque mode' means, that the analog input voltage (command input) is converted into a proportional current signal and that's in both modes the best option.

  • Why does the Apple ID sign in window say connection failed when I try to sign in?

I bought a Macbook Pro from a friend but I need to clear it and set up everything. I am trying to download the new OS software. However when I try to sign in to download the new software "Connection failed" pops up in little red letters. Why is this happening? My apple ID is correct and verified. I have no clue what to do. Help!

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted from the disc, the USB device, or Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • Why does the Mac App Store invite me to install already installed software?

When I view Purchased Items at the Mac App Store, the button for some of my installed apps reads "Installed" but for others it reads "Install."  If I click on the Install button for these apps I get a message that reads: We could not complete your purchase - [this software] is already installed on your computer.  Choose Software Update ... to check for available updates."  But, Software Update has nothing for me...

  • Why does Safari Mac OSX nor load my IWEB made webpages?

i am confused, and maybe someone has a suggestion that can help - i created a site in iweb and it loads in all browsers EXCEPT safari in Mac OSX (that means it loads fine in safari Windows!)
the first page sometimes loads but if you try the other pages the load progress bar shows but not the page. that the only way a page will load is if i click somewhere on it. many visitors don't realize this. after clicking the reload btn many times they leave the site.
can someone help me solve this? the url is http://tunities.com

I can view your site in Safari V 3.0.3.
The problem is with the URL. Every page comes up as...
    http://tunities.com/
    .. whereas they should be...
    http://tunities.com/welcome
    http://tunities.com/playgrounds etc.
The problem is with your server. Either your domain name has not been directed properly (masked maybe) or the index file is not in the right place.

  • When using the FILE SEND LINK function, why does the system launch a new window if the email app is already open and active?

I normally have my Yahoo! and Gmail e-mail accounts open and logged into the entire time my system is on. Using your instructions, I have set theFireFox 'mailto' option to USE GMAIL.

Seems Gmail automatically logged me out. When I logged back in and tried again, it still opened a new window, but used my open account to process the e-mail.
Must it always open a new window (which then needs to be closed) in executing this function?
