Probably a simple answer to a simple question

I used all of my hard earned money to enjoy this wonderful device sent down from heaven. Now after 33 hours of trying to make my very un-cooperative computer work with this thing I have a really simple problem to you but to me its like nuclear physics. (actually 2 things come to think of it) I finally imported all of my music into the itunes. I first put like 6 songs on the i-pod just to try it out. Now in i-tunes its very organized. I can search by song, artist, album etc. In the ipod I can only search by song, when I try to search by artist I only got one album name in the artist section out of the six songs??!! how do I make it nice and neat on the ipod? The other question is I would like to know how when I download audio from Limewire to set it so it goes right into my itunes library. PLEASE will someone help me. THANKS!!!

Ok my tags are labeled correctly. When I right click a particular song in I-tunes and then click on "get info" I check the song, artists, album etc titles and they are correct. So back to my original problem, Everything seems to be labeled and organized correctly in I-tunes. When I am trying to browse in the I-pod I cannot look up certain songs by artists... Simple answer needed to complex question

I said "simple" because, although a Mac user for many years, I have no knowledge of the tech angle (which gets me in trouble regularly.)
In the last few days, my Safari started getting very slow on my iMac. I searched the forums and saw a suggestion that I discard a couple of files as well as "start in a safe mode" which required I do a restart with the shift key depressed.
Here is where the strangeness began. Upon a restart after the safe mode, it would fire up, then after a minute or so, it would shut down. This happened a number of times.
This is what I did: I started from my install disk and it fired up fine. I ran Disk Warrior and it resolved some issues, but said I had problems that could not be corrected.
I had installed Application Enhancer a week or so ago and had no problems with the restart.
Yes, I do have a number of 3rd party things, but have not suffered the failure to start that I now have.
I guess my question is this: Have I done something that cannot be undone by starting in "Safe Mode" and if so, how do I undo what has been done? Also, what is safe mode and could it have corrupted something?
By the way, I do not shut down any more or restart. I just let it sleep so that it will continue to run.
Please, any suggestions (other than the obvious "reinstall Leopard") would be greatly appreciated.

I just recently read a post where several people had major problems with Applications Enhancer and needed to uninstall that app to get rid of the problems.
When you ran Disk Warrior, what exactly did it fix and what were the problems that could not be resolved? Can you post or copy the screenshots/messages?

Xmlrpc and soap, looking for a simple answer to a simple question

Hello,
Can someone tell me, are java implementations of web service protocols such as soap and xmlrpc built around servlets (and supporting classes of course) that know how to deal with these specific xml formats? I know there are various libraries for handling these things but on the most basic level it's still using a Servlet as an end point for an http request and then handing out the request to the supporting classes isn't it?

XML-RPC and SOAP were developed outside of Sun, outside of Java. They are uniform international standards of communications developed on top of XML standards to be easily used by applications of different types.
XML, like Java, is cross-platform, but for applications. XML defines document structure, and because it is an international standard, many people have access to the "format." An application, like Microsoft Word, can read an XML document created by some other Application that is written in XML because both understand XML. Although they can read the document, they may not understand the data. Various other XML technologies enable the application to retrieve another XML document that describes the elements or that defines how the data is to be displayed and/or used. XML Style Sheets and XML Translations are just two such things.
Not everyone knows the Adobe PDF format, so a program like MS Word is not able to read it, but if it was written in XML, then Word could read the document, get the technology that describes how to handle the data, and then properly display it to the user, allow editing, then save it back into XML format, and then Acrobat could read the edited data and display it correctly as well. Two different applications, one common format.

I've looked all over this Forum and the JDeveloper 9i tutorial but I can't figure out how to disable the picklist box from my resultset. The searchable object is assigned to "MessageChoice" for the search option but that picklist value shouldn't be showing up in the resultset. I've tried all reconfiguring many of the options in the Property Inspector but nothing works.

I am trying to burn my movie for my DVD Player.
I am using PAL format.
I edit the movie in Pinnacle Studio.
I imported it into Encore.
I try to burn a project 1.8 Gigas in Size and no problem
I try to burn a project 2.0 or greater and it won't work!!!
I am using DVD R/W
I am sure there's no problem with the DVD Burner because I am able to
burn a DVD movie using Nero onto a DVD R disc and no problem.
My Burning speed is 1X.
I have a machine built for editing: 2 giga of memory/ A8N-SLI premium
Mother board / AMD 4200+ processor / 700 gigas of hard disk, etc
How do I solve this problem?

I am using MPG 2 as a source for my movie.
It won't work means that I appear to burn it successfully but when I go to the DVD player, it movie skip, drags after about half way through.
If I burn the smaller sized file It will play well throughout but I need
a 3.5+ capacity.

Yep, or windex sprayed directly on a cloth first, then wipe down the keyboard. So not spray the keyboard directly.
Unlike keyboard of old, newer keyboards are not as "washable" as they used to be. You will see suggestions for cleaning keyboards that you spilled your drink all over such as just running it through the dishwasher. With new tiny keyboards this doesn't work anymore because rather than one circuit board with the keys contacting the top surface, the new ones use thin plastic films with circuits printed on them and a few of these sandwiched together. One you get liquid between those layers, it is very difficult to get it to dry out and you end up with problems.
So if someone says, run it through the dishwasher, unless you are cleaning your 1992 IBM AT keyboard that you can club someone to death with, DON'T!

simple question... what is the best way to export my fce movie and burn it on idvd for the best quality for genaral use ... sd..4x3 ratio tv.. lots of ken burn effects on photos... lots of sd video... ???
not so simple answer... i have read manuals.. apple discussions.. etc etc my eyes are blurry.. i have been exporting out of fce to qk time movie, then import to idvd and burn..
i get lots of wavy or jitter when doing kens burn effects on photos.. i have been told that 1 field must be missing.. and its better to take the qk time movie convert it again making sure hi quality is checked(movie properties 720 x 480) and self contained movie, then import to imovie ver 5.02 which has better codecs then to idvd ... an apple store tech said..
then another apple store tech said...dv pro or dv stream or interlaced or on and on and on
its not 16x9, or for the web or anything but simply burn it and give it to my grandma to play in a standard dvd player.. best quality.. period.. i know it won't any better than my source video but the wavy photos bother me..

The Apple store tech told you garbage. The quality will be the same. It's using the same QuickTime engine. There may be a difference because going through iMovie will go through a file conversion and the picture might be softened a little, which will mitigated this flicker you see.
The wavy photos can be a lot of things, most likely due to the nature of the images themselves and the movements you've done on them. What often works on still images is to apply a one pixel vertical motion blur in an application like Photoshop or Elements. This helps to reduce interlace flicker on motion when the material is brought into a video editing application.

The simple answer is that by putting your class into the package named "website", the java runtime program looks for a directory called "website", which it is apparently unable to find. Try removing the package statement and recompile.

It fails to ring most times and your never sure if it is just slow or did not dial in the first place??? and is there any way to disable the leave a message feature ??? In terms of your PowerBook G4, apparently your Hard Disk Drive has failed completely and I am not sure what else it wrong.
First, try this:
• Shut down the computer.
• Locate the following keys: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously later.
• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command + Option + P + R keys immediately after the startup chime.
• Hold keys down until you hear the startup chime for the third time.
• Release the keys and immediately hold down Shift key to start up in Safe Mode.
• Log in and empty Trash.
• Restart normally and log in.
If that does not work try Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it says anything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need to use a utility like Tech Tool Pro or Disk Warrior
If still no dice, try the procedure outlined in the article Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck.

When playing the song it will kirt move to the next song. How can I get it to download again or get my money back? It does this whether I'm on my ipod touch, laptop, shuffle, etc.

I got an offer for a "free" (actually a self-install) for X-1. I have a 10+ year old DVR and a HD DTA, so I went ahead and ordered it. Its arriving today and I can't get remotely consistent answers to the following questions: Do I need to change my current TV plan? I've got 12 months left on a promotion and don't want to lose that pricing.The X1 DVR replaces the existing DVR, but what happens with the HD DTA on the second set?Is cloud DVR available in the central NJ market? If so, what is the addtional cost?This has been nothing but frustration. I'm at the point where I'm probably just dropping of the X1 equipement at the Comcast office and forgetting the whole "upgrade" thing. I've been considering cutting cable TV at the end of the promotion, and this is making it a pretty easy decision.

I feel your pain! Although you were miles smarter than we were. We stuck it out for weeks which dragged into months! After 4 or 5 (or more; it's been 2 yrs, I believe, and we've tried to forget the entire debacle with little success) installers, re-installers, uninstallers, and do-nothing-know-nothing non-installers, literally countless hours on hold, endless transfers, escalations, disconnections, rude hang ups, phone system hang ups, human error hang ups, department inefficiency hang ups, subordinate stupidity, managerial stupidity, untrained and uncaring and often rude and defensive Cust.Svc.Reps, outright fact fabrication (i.e., lies), etc., reaching it's zenith with an unwavering determination to fit our situation into a preset, confining coffin-like box simply to accommodate their computer's ability to "handle" our account. The right hand not even aware that a left hand existed and F'n up our system, signal, billing, and anything else they could contrive to keep us from the simplest, most logical, already in place, and least costly in additional repair manhours and further ineffective, time consuming, and spirit crushing phone frustration. But......NO!!! Comcast employees, including managers, supervisors, escalated tier supervisors, et.al, are incapable of thinking outside the box or taking the initiative to follow through to find a solution. I worked in the original company when cable came to Portland. I remember trying our utmost to find workable solutions for each unusual situation, often walking the paperwork/issue from dept.head to dept.head looking for answers. Unfortunately, few, if any, at Comcast seem capable of even grasping the problem, let alone the initiative to find a solution. Congrats on being much quicker to come to this realization than we were! We presently have three tvs with little DCT boxes that haven't worked for over 6 months but have dreaded making the 1st of what I know will be many calls to Comcast Repair!
