Probably another bug in 2.1

I have noticed (actually it is hard not to) a bug in the 2.1 software for iPod Touch (1 Gen). For some 3rd party apps if the app requires some more processing (for games like Enigmo or Meta Squares) the display turns black and after some 10 seconds the iPod returns to the menu (iPod menu not app menu). It does not happen when I start the app, but some 10 minutes afterwards. Same thing happened also with some other apps too.
I am pretty sure it is a bug because it happens with more than 5 apps. And ... it did not happen with the 2.0 software!
Has anyone else also noticed this kind of behavior or I am the only one getting this?

I just updated my Touch to 2.1. Five of my 3rd party apps will not open. Looks like something in the update is causing bugs in these apps. Previously when apps happened to be glitchy as you described, I would Resync the Touch and all would be OK.
This time the apps will not open: I get a "cannot be opened" dialogue box.
Anyone else have this problem?
Perhaps I should email the apps developers to see if these apps need updates?

• Another bug? Please tell me that its not true...

So I updated, everything was working great, album downloading went great, gapless works, etc. I didn't have any issues with sound or anything like that. My problem seems to be a little different than everyone else. And I've noticed 3 things.
1. My EQ settings for individual tracks only automatically update on the EQ intermittently. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, I've tried with focus on the window, not on the window, changing the EQ setting to something different and then changing it back again. Any ideas?
2. Downloading from the iTunes Store is butt slow. I'm not entirely sure that this is a problem with the university network I'm on or what but my download speeds are only around 5kb/sec on a fiber backbone but the last episode of Alias currently sits at 133 hours until completion (5.5 days!) and that's completely unacceptable for the network that I'm connected to.
3. Downloads from the iTunes Store will randomly fail and restart from the beginning. This may be related to whether it's a university problem but I suspect there's a deeper underlying problem with my software. The error codes are different each time and I haven't been keeping track of them but they've appeared in the 9000 range as well as in the 5000 and 500 ranges.
So what say ye all?
P.S. Is it true what I'm hearing about downloaded artwork not being transferred to your iPod? I haven't noticed it.
Powerbook G4 1.5 Ghz Mac OS X (10.4.7) 1.256 MB RAM, 64 MB GEForceGO, 8x Superdrive

Ok, this is out of hand. My downloads just failed again. It seems like it gets to a certain point and then just starts over. I actually finished one the other night but then iTunes insisted on 'checking' the file...in actuality, this meant that it would waste processor cycles and supposedly limited bandwidth to mess up whatever was actually downloaded and delete the progress it had made. I can't believe that I'm the only one who has experienced a problem like this. The same applies to my problem with the equalizer. I know that some have bigger problems than this, however it seems like it's just another bug to add to the list of ones that Apple needs to fix rather soon in 7.0.1.
Also, I've sent a request for support to Apple through the iTunes site about both of these issues and not surprisingly haven't received a reply yet. With all the problems that have been reported thus far, I might not reply either...

• Another bug in sun one studio?

is this another bug in sun one studio or something else.
i have set the author to a different name through
tools -> options -> java sources
but when i create session beans or cmp beans, it uses the previous name.
however java main classes display the new name

This looks like a bug to me. I didn't see anything in the bug database that was similar, so I would suggest that you file a bug at:

using:

No I don't want to use channels. I want to use a 'Solid Fill Colour' layer. If you click on the little icon at the bottom of the layers palette you get a little menu and at the top of that menu you can select 'Solid Colour'. Then you can select the 'Colour Libraries' tab and apply a Pantone Colour as a Solid Fill layer.
Photoshop definitely DOES support this method because we have been using it here for the last few years, its quite standard practice to work like this before going into channel work or DCS work.
It means you can double click a layer to reveal its intended Pantone colour rather than cmyk match.
As I say it works fine in CS2.
Well it seems its another bug in a very poor update. I just hope CS4 doesn't have the same problems.

• Another bug: FTP Upload causing broken link?

hi, i have a file that has multiple parent(created using create link option).
When i update the file via WCP in drive O:,
changes to this file was reflected to other parent, which was correct, ofcourse.
But when i try to update the file via FTP,
only file in the corresponding/current folder was updated,
and link to other folders was gone,
and other parent folders still refering to the old file.
is this a bug? has anybody else notice this problem?
I also noticed inconsistent behaviour between deleting files via WCP and via FTP.
when i deleted files via FTP, it seems that the file was completely freed, removing the file from current folder and from all other related/linked folder.
but when i use WCP to delete file, it only delete file from current folder, and the same file in other related folder is still preserved.
another bug?
btw i'm using IFS 9.0.1,Windows 2000

1. Updating documents with multiple parents.
The behaivor you describe is expected. Here is why.
WCP updates the content of the document using RACI while
FTP put creates a new document, replacing the existing document, and thus
the link to other parents do not exist for the new document, and the other
parents still point to the old document.
One way around this problem is to have the folder containing the
document have the multiparents, instead of the document itself. This
would maintain the links if the docment content is changed or if the document
is replaced.
2. Deleting documents with multiple parents
This does apear to be a bug. The correct behaiver is to only delete the
file from current folder, and the same file in other related folders
is still preserved.
This is fixed in the next iFS release 9.0.3 for FTP.
hope this helps!

• Skipping frames in mc - another "bug"??

Hi. Still working on that presentation, Flash Pro. v8 - PC
platform.
On slide 2, I have a movie clip.
The mc has a total of 235 frames.
When I play the mc in the edit window, everything is fine.
When I test my movie, it seems to ignore the first 40 frames
of the mc.
The only script I have attached to that slide is:
onEnterFrame = function(){
this.mcPosterpg2.gotoAndPlay(1);
delete this.onEnterFrame;
The only script I have attached to the mc itself is a stop on
the last frame.
All my scripts are on their own layer.
Is this yet another bug, or am I missing something?

> Anyway to fix this?
No.
There is currently a bug/limitation that makes Skip Existing Frames and Render Mutliple Frames Simultaneously multiprocessing incompatible.

• Another Bug in Photoshop CS3 or a setting Im missing?

Another Bug in CS3 or a setting Im missing?
This time in Photoshop.
If I add a solid colour fill layer and pick a Pantone colour from the Colour Libraries I fill it with a Pantone colour and then save the document. When I re-open the document the Pantone Fill layer reverts back to a CMYK setting when I double click on the layer.
I ran a test on CS2 and this definitely doesnt happen in CS2 so why in CS3?
Its a massive problem and in my eyes makes Photoshop CS3 unusable in a professional environment.
Please tell me its a new setting i'm missing and not a bug.

• Another Bug in Hasbro SCRABBLE

For the sake of the uninitiated, prior to game end, SCRABBLE informs the user that the computer has only x tiles left, when x is left than 7. This is because all of the tiles have been taken from the bag so neither player can replenish their rack.
At the end of the game, the sum of the value of the loser's unplayed tiles is added to the winner's score.
The bug is that SCRABBLE repeatedly announces that the computer has x tiles left, and then the user goes out, and then SCRABBLE awards the user y extra points, where y is less than x.
This is impossible. But it happens repeatedly so should be easy to track and fix.

• Another bug - field positioning

Another problem I have noticed is that sometimes the position
of the field or label on the layout is not what the properties.top
says. I had a field that was in one place on the layout and in
another place altogether when it was printed. Once I corrected the
Top property, it printed in the same place as it was on the layout.
ie the printing used the Top property, the layout used something
else to decide where it was located.

• Another bug for N-95(21.0.016)

HI,
this is another bug:
we cant use screen saver with flash files or animations longer 60 seconds! after that date and time(text screen saver) appear.
it is very bad.
NOKIA means:Night Of King In Alone

listen n95 users who updated their firmware to v21.
when i learned yesterday that v21 was out, i didnt wait another second to get the new firmware. like most of you guys would do. i made a back up of my files first and then downloaded the freshly brought out upgrade.
the flash 3 support was cool and the web runtime. the phone seemed to work faster too.
but the next 2 thing ill tell you is something what i would call very saddening about this upgrade.
1. the camera flash lights doesnt work anymore. even if you set it on force flash
2. today ( 2nd day of v21 in possession) my phone stopped working and the screen went all black. i thought my phone crashed so i did what i usually do when it happens. i pulled the battery out for about 3 mins but the screen remained black. fyi, a phone that's turned off shows a blank screen. i put it back, same story. my phone is dead and i couldnt turn it on anymore. i immediately drive by the nearest nokia point center and ask if they could fix it. i had to leave my phone there for inspection and reparation. that means i would be able to use it for a couple of days. and this is very tragic.
is there anyone there that encountered the same problem?
piece of advice to those who havent have theyre phone upgraded: wait a couple of days first, and listen to what those who downloaded v21 on their phone. v21 is what i call DOWNGRADE in this matter. im very disappointed with this new firmware....

• Another BUG in Acrobat 9.4.5 -- Find doesn't work

I made the mistake of updating to the latest version Acrobat 9.4.5, and discovered that the Find feature doesn't work right. For example, I enter a word to search in the "Find" box, and click return. In past versions, the PDF would jump to the first instance of the term or phrase and highlight the word. Now, the PDF jumps to the page, but doesn't highlight the word! So... I'm stuck reading through text to find the word, which is a lot of extra work and time that I don't have. This is a critical problem because I search documents for terms all of the time in my job.
I've found one workaround that isn't very satisfactory, but it is better than nothing. Instead of using "Find Next in PDF", I use "Open Full Acrobat Search" which is a command off the Find pull-down menu. This command opens up a separate window, which is annoying because it disappears behind the document if you need to page through the PDF file. However, if I do the search, it shows all of the instances in a pane in the context of the sentence where it appears. Then, if I click on the instance of the word in this pane twice (Yes, TWICE), it will highlight the word in the PDF. You cannot use the Find Next button as you could in previous versions, because this function will not highlight the word. Anyway, given there are other bugs in this release that I've read about in this forum, I'll most likely just go back to the previous version and completely disable the automatic update feature in Acrobat. I wish going back was a quick process, but I don't think it is.
I'm also going to tell everyone in my circle of friends to avoid automatically updating Adobe Acrobat in the future. Adobe obviously doesn't test the software well. Wish I could charge Adobe for the time and frustration they've caused me!

Brianwrx,
The Acrobat 9.4.5 update bugs where the first "hit" on each page is not highlighted when doing a Find/Search and no longer being able to use Shift & Ctrl on the Pages pane thumbnails to multi-select and move/delete pages are well reported by many to have been introduced coincident with the Acrobat 9.4.5 release and not a MS Windows update. I'm not sure what is going on with your 9.0.0 Pro Extended.
For seasoned Adobe to break such commonly used features in Acrobat 9, never have regression tested these basic functions given the 3 month (or longer) release cycle, and not have broke it in Acrobat X doesn't reflect well on their development/test process. Then, there are web forum recommendations prodding to upgrade to Acrobat X -- which completely changed the User Interface and will result in significant loss of productivity while bridging the learning curve and dealing with new functional/compatibility problems. Furthermore, it is something how OCR Suspects are never found/flagged in Acrobat 9, and then were finally fixed in Acrobat X (forcing the need for a paid upgrade to get a bug fix and have to relearn the interface to boot).
Adobe's poor quality 9.4.5 release update does me more harm than good when considering other settings to improve Acrobat security (turning off Java-Script, not automatically trusting sites from the Win OS security zones, and not allowing the opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications under the Edit menu - Preferences). Adobe has made no official commitment to fix its bugs or provide a release date in the 10+ weeks since the awful 9.4.5 code was thrown over the fence to unsuspecting auto-update customers without any practical/simple way to back it off to 9.4.4 -- even though in all probability it will take the programmer one day each to fix the bugs with some additional time to test/release). It is interesting that there have been no critical Acrobat security issues (as evidenced by no Out-Of-Cycle releases since 9.4.5), which should mean their programmers have more time to fix these bugs and restore stable functionality in 9.4.6. As for "not being able to use Shift & Ctrl directly on the Pages pane thumbnails to move pages" (another 9.4.5 bug), the circumvention to drag a window around a group of pages, hold down Shift, and drag a window around a second group of pages should be further clarified with the following: Once your blue highlighted contiguous/non-contiguous pages selection is made, be sure to drag a thumbnail graphic directly to move the selection and don't try to drag the blue shaded perimeter area (which results in clearing the blue highlighting). This does provide a decent circumvention for that bug -- as compared to the cumbersome "Full Acrobat Search - Advanced Search Options - double-clicking each Result line" circumvention for the Find/Search first "hit" non-highlighting bug. I implore Adobe to listen to your customers and please take a "do no harm" conservative approach to updates/enhancements in the future.

• Second battery does not report status correct - probably BIOS bug

Hi,
I have a T61 laptop and recently bought a second battery (for the CD drive slot).
The problem is, the status of the second battery is not properly reported. Sometimes it doesn't show the status (charging, discharging etc.), sometimes even not the capacity. This is a problem, as this can cause my laptop to shut down when one battery is running out of power, while the other is still full.
This happens both in windows and linux. You can see some more details here:
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17832
I'm pretty sure that this is a bug in the BIOS. Is there any way I can contact the people who are working on the BIOS? I tried to use the web support form to get in contact, but the support told me to contact the nearest service center - not very helpful.

On its home page http://www.ngolde.de/yacpi.html is a mention that there may possibly problems with battery status. You should probably try to contact the developer.

• Another bug - CS4 to CS5 Layer Drag

I've repeated this on two different MacPro/Intel computers running Leopard 10.5.8.
We prefer to use ContactSheet II in order to make contact sheets for import into InDesign and then printing through ColorBurst RIP. As mentioned in another thread, the best workaround offered was to run CS5 in 64-bit and run CS4 when needing 32-bit-compatible functionality such as this.
We also use ContactSheet II to make contact sheets for printing CD case inserts, and this is how I discovered this particular anomaly.
I have my layered master TIF file open in CS5 which is where I want to place my contact sheet and then print. The file is 5.4 x 4.65" @ 300ppi, 8bits/channel.
I've just made a contact sheet in CS4 at 5 x 3.5" and the result is @ 300ppi, 8bits/channel.
There are two ways to quickly move this into my CS5 file:
Command-click on the image and drag into my CS5 image window - or - select all in CS4 and paste in CS5.
After doing this, the new layer (regardless of the method of moving it into CS5) is minute in size, actually 1.2 x 0.84" @300ppi.
The workaround was to save the contact sheet from CS4 and then open that file in CS5 and the size is not affected.
Again, this was repeated on another computer, but I have no clue as to why this is happening but it appears to be a bug. I'm aware I can just do the whole operation in CS4 from start to finish.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks Jeff - ya,sorry, I should've specified. I'm running Win 7 64-bit and I have Production Premium CS4 on the system now. Ideally I would deactivate and uninstall it before I load CS5.5 Production Premium.
My only reasoning is to save on SSD space. Is there any reason to keep CS4 on the machine, other than possible problems with CS5.5?
Thanks again for your reply Jeff.

• Collator and Turkish (probably a bug)

Hi,
Turkish has 2 unique letters pairs:
'\u0130' & 'i' ('&#304' & 'i') which correspond to English 'I', & 'i'
'I', & '\u0130' ('I' & 'ı') which don't exist as letters in English and represent back-vowel pairs of English 'I', & 'i'.
If you didn't get them above, you can check them out at:
http://www.prustinteractive.com/toolbox/font/
In other words, English I i are both with a dot in Turkish, and the back-vowel versions of them are both dotless.
My task at hand is:
sort them alphabetically, ignoring case, but naturally capturing the dot difference.
From the API it appears that either:
langCollator.setStrength(Collator.SECONDARY|Collator.CANONICAL_DECOMPOSITION);
or
langCollator.setStrength(Collator.SECONDARY);
should do the job.
However, all combinations of containing PRIMARY & SECONDARY fail to distinguish between the dotfulls and the dotless. The only thing that gets both of them to compare != 0 is TERTIARY or (a logical | with) Collator.FULL_DECOMPOSITION. But the moment i do that i am no longer able to ignore case.
I did a lot of testing, and am convinced that i'll need to submit a bug, but wanted to get any feedback first. If it is a bug, i'll have to figure out RuleBasedCollator, probably by listing the entire alphabet.
P.S. In fact, letters '' and 'o', for example, don't compare to 0 in Turkish version of Collator even with Collator.PRIMARY, apparently because they are a part of the alphabet, whereas '' and 'a' always compare to 0 even with SECONDARY, which is again a bug even though '' and 'a' are not part of the alphabet.
I'm not really concerned whether PRIMARY or SECONDARY should compare the dotless and the dotfulls != 0, but right now none of them does, if there is a requirement of ignoring case.
Thanks for any feedback,
Reshat.

Hi,
a correction:
in the message below, in P.S.:
"whereas '' and 'a' always compare to 0 even with SECONDARY, which is again a bug even though '' and 'a' are not part of the alphabet."
should have been written as:
"but '' and 'a' also != 0 even with PRIMARY, which is again a bug because '' and 'a' are not part of the Turkish alphabet."
Sorry for my mistake in previous message.

• Another bug in fcp5- maybe!

Im a JKL user, when im shuttling forward and i went to go back really quick, i have a habit of hitting K really quick to stop, and hitting J to immediately reverse, the frame freezes but the audio goes reverse, then it catches up sometimes like 5-10 seconds later.
THIS HAPPENS WHEN "EFFECTS HANDLING" IS SET TO "NONE", IT DOESNT SEEM TO BE A PROBLEM WHEN SET TO FCP, NOW ASK ME IM SET TO FCP, DONT GET ME STARTED WITH THE SLUGGISH SHUTTLING AGAIN., HAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH, I CANT WIN

you dont have the JKL shuttling studder problem and mouse movement pausing with EFFECTS HANDLING set to FCP with no capture card?
because there are a lot of people that had the same problem with me. and the only way to get around this was to set effects handling to none, but the reverse bug happens, if your not getting the stuttering to begin with, then you probably wont have this problem, if your not having stuutering problems, what are you using (different mouse from the stock one, any graphics cards, any capture cards, etc) this may exclude you from the problem a lot of us are having
