Probably being an idiot..

So when I was downloading Itunes 10.7 (so I could sync my phone) it told me "This software requires Mac OS X version 10.6.8 or later.". Pretty straightforward except that when I went to macbook it told me to check software update and I didnt have any... sooooo I just want to update my computer and i can not figure it out.. save me!...

You need to upgrade to 10.6.8 to be able to download iTunes 10.7. The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.

I haven't used  Matt Wright's scripts in this century, but I'm pretty sure that Perl still needs to go into your CGI bin and the permissions level (chmod) must be set to 755 or possibly 777 for the script to read, write & execute.

  • I'm probably being really stupid here, but I don't want my itunes library on my PC to sync/match exactly with my ipod touch, as it's only an 8gb one and I haven't got room on it for everything in my itunes library. I want to simply move stuff on and off

I'm probably being really dumb, but I can't work out how to remove music/vids etc from my ipod but retain them in my itunes library on my PC . I haven't got room for everything on my 8gb ipod touch. I just want to put stuff on there when I want to watch/listen to it. If it get's full I want to just take it off but put it back on at a later date. My ipod touch is new - I had an older generation ipod before and didn't have a problem with this. Is it because I have signed up to icloud or something? If so, how can I change it?

You can manually manage or you can sync by playlist/artist/album/genre/checked songs.
Maybe you should read the manual:

  • LoveFilm vod player probably being throttled by BT...

Hi, i'm now convinced that my lovefilm player is being throttled by BT from the hours of approx 3pm to the early hours!.
I'm on a 40gb allowance & i am always under this limit. Lovefilm are certain it's not a fault there end, so i require some explaination from BT about this.... if it is the case that i am being restricted, then it seems extremely unreasonable & unexceptable to me if BT are expecting me only use this paid-for vod service during what is normally considered to be hours of sleep (As too do i expect will Ofcom).
I've been intouch with bb tech support today... & failed to get any straight answers from them on the issue!.
Would a bt employed forum mod please assist me on this matter. Or failing that, could another community forum member please advise me on how to initiate the correct course of action i should begin to take.
    Thanks.

  • Im probably being too paranoid, but please advise

Am using my Powerbook G4 on stgae running Logic 7.2 using a DIGI 002 and a M-Audio Controller Keyboard.
I hAve been rehearsing with my band and have been running into many problems with Logic, it just keeps crashing. So after much tweaking on my laptop i just decided to give in and zero my harddrive and start afresh.
After doing this everything seems to be working smoothly, well at the moment.
What i was wondering is can i install another operating system on an external drive, and if so how do i go about that.
The reason why i want to do this is so that i can keep my internal harddrive on the laptop as clean as possible, so hopefully i dont run into problems live, and then the other operating system i can use for recreational use etc.
    Please advise,
    Cheers

So David i could have this set up:
    • For a Live setup:
Have logic 7.2 running on my internal hard drive, with the samples on an external hard drive for example a Lacie d2 Extreme 800
    • For recreational use:
Install another operating system onto another external hard drive, and on this i will have stuff like my itunes folder all my samples and 3rd party pluggins that i am not using for my live setup, etc
Is this an option that would work. I just want to make sure that when i am using my laptop for recreational use that i am not clooging the internal computer with unwanted programs that might make the computer unrealiable for live

  • Wireless being an idiot

Yo... i have installed wireless on a windows 98 desktop computer... this installed fine but the internet is very dodgy on the wireless i don't think it's because of the desktop though... It signs me out of msn doesn;t connect to server on the internet all of the time and sometimes ican't speak to people on msn - well i think im talking but it doesn't show up on their convo.... can anyone help?

Hi… Do you have Linksys wireless router? Do you have wireless PCI card or USB adapter? What are the model numbers for the same? What are the wireless settings? Report back with some more information.  For MSN messenger to work you need to have following ports opened on your router. The ports are 6891 to 6901. So please trigger these ports on your router.

  • DSL/ Col Adj/ B&W section missing in Develop module

    Hi there,
I'm probably being an idiot here (usually the case) but I seem to have lost the DSL/ Col Adj/ B&W section down the right hand side in the develop module. Running top to bottom I have:
    Basic
    Tone Curve
    Split Toning
    Detail
    Lens Corrections
    Effects
    Camera Callibration
I've definitely used it before but it just seems to have vanished! Is there an option I've turned off in one of the menus?
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    Many thanks!

    Hey presto!
Thanks Rikk, that's done the trick! I'm just getting to grips with Lightroom and am following all the various instruction videos... just couldn't find one that solved that problem!
Thanks so much for your help.

  • Moving from LIBRARY to DEVELOPING

After importing my pictures into, and selecting one, in Library I cannot move to Developing. Nothing seems to work. Pressing D does nothing. Also the top toolbar which is there in the opening screen has disappeared. Sorry, this is my first look at Lightroom so I'm probably being an idiot.

    Hi
    Thanks for your message.
    1. I clicked on Library.
    2. When the Library screen came up I clicked on Import.
    3. Then I selected from the options on the left a folder in My Documents
which had about 8 photos in it.
4.These all appeared in the window with ticks in the corners.
5 I selected Clear All, and then ticked one of the images.
    6. I then double clicked this to get it to fill the window.
    7. I then tried to press D - no success. I then pressed CntrlAlt2 - no
    success.

  • Data plan!  why???  whats the difference of me using Wifi or being charged for a data plan?

Feature phones iterally suck, even the internet pro reviews on the phones are very low and most of the feature phones that are  reviewed  the reviewer gives  their  last comment as "don't buy" .
I do not need a data plan, ( I carry either a Verizon netbook or a notebook for all my internet needs) nor am I comfortable with the charge of a data plan being necessary or is this simply another way for a large company with a large profit margin to stick it to the consumer knowing we have to maintain a cell phone in this day and age?.
I had settled on the KinTwo, the reviews are not glowing but .... r not that horrible either.  It is also the only phone which gives the owner WiFi accessibility.  (which makes me wonder if this is the reason Verizon has pulled it off the market).  From my extensive research the KinTwo is the only feature phone choice.  But..... When I went back to the site to order it was gone, and the VW stores do not carry it.
UGH>  I am so discouraged by the data plans and the extremely high price.  Would someone please tell me what the difference is in my using my Netbook, laptop (notebook) on WiFi and not being charged a data fee?  Or why I can bring Wireless Internet into my home and have all my WiFi accessible electronics connect through my main ISP with an additional fee for each WiFi user????   But I am not able to use a Smartphone this way???
I am serious about these data plans  are they necessary????

once upon a time verizon did not require data plans
    many users were happy
but t h is did not last for users started having problems with thier hands
they would often hit the wrong buttons and use data
sometims as little as a mb, sometimes many mb
verizon forums and customer service started recieving phone calls to get credits for this usage
after all its not the users fault is it? i mean are they responsible if they had the phone to a 2 year old to play with and the kid brings up the browser?
so verizon decided it was in its best interest to protect its users.  they started requireing data plans so you wouldnt get hit with huge bills for being an idiot.
So if you wanna cry about data plans blame all those people out there that complained

  • Nano not being corectly recognised in Itunes - Ghost sync !

    Hi There,
Have a 4gig nano and due to computer rebuild have installed itunes 7 and i also updated the software using 7's update function....However now my nano is recognised as having 232.89 GB !!! (do i win a prize for the largest Nano yet ?)
Itunes diagnostics reveals a nano with the correct serial number, for what thats worth.
I try to sync and the software goes through the motions, the ipod under itunes has playlists full. Eject the actual nano and its blank.
Every time i plug in the nano it goes through the naming set-up.
Pluging in my nano without itunes open, starts up itunes, so windows knows there is an ipod. Under hardward devices it shows a USB Ipod as expected - However since itunes was managing things disc usage is not enabled and hence i can't find a third party software to see it either (i was desperate to load some stuff on).
I've unistalled itunes7 and re-installed. Tried itunes6 and had to delete the liberary and re-import it, but it falsely syncronised too. Tried an old software updater, but due to itunes7 software it can't be used.
Further to the above.....i've just looked at the ipod diagnostics again and it says
    Connected Device Information
Store1 (F:\), iPod nano running firmware version 1.2
    Serial Number: 5U5395***
    Bus Speed: 61440
The last connected iPod serial number: 5U5395***.
    F: is a network drive....no wonder my Nano is so huge....Any idea's ???
    Ta,
    Lee

it got stuck in a restore loop from all the messing arround trying to find it !
actually, if it was relentlessly giving you a "Recovery mode" message, that was probably being caused by a drive letter confusion as well. see:
"iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore"
... the potential symptoms of this one are so multifarious that its difficult to track down info on it in the knowledge base. (no matter what title you give a KB doc on it, it's still not obviously going to spring out as a likely suspect for some of the symptom sets that folks can get with it.)
anyhoo, glad you're up and running again.

  • Newbie idiot sharing question

Hi folks, I'm probably being really dumb but am having trouble doing something that is probably incredibly simple. I want to access itunes music and iphoto libraries across two accounts on the same machine, a white macbook running OS 10.5.5. I've done the obvious things - enabled file sharing and so forth but nothing seems to work.
It might be easier to just have one log-in with everything, but can you get all the files from one log-in onto another? Just really dim adn any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

[Have a look here for the iTunes answer|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203]
I'd assume the iPhoto version is pretty similar.
The search function here will get you a long way with this.

  • Help - trying to download podcasts! Probably just a total fool

I keep trying to download some podcast and up to a point it works except the volume is very low or, for one, the introduction music is loud and clear but the woman's voice (spoken) is very quiet, crackly and jumpy. What am i doing wrong?! it's driving me mad. I am probably a total idiot!

Yeah, it sounds as though the idiot is not you.

  • ICloud email with hyperlink not being received

I have tried several times to send an email with a link to a tumblr blog and it is not being received by the recipients.
It is in my sent items and I have not received a notification to say it has not been sent. If I send the same email without the hyperlink they recieve it.
What is stopping this email from being sent properly and why am I not receiving a notification to say otherwise.
    Thanks.

It's probably being caught by a spam filter somewhere along the way. Spam filters don't usually send notifications to the alleged sender or the nominal recipient.

  • Mail Notifications from Runtimedna Forums being blocked

I was receiving email notifications for Forum Threads I subscribed to at Runtimedna.com. Then, I upgraded to Yosemite from OS 10.9.5. I no longer get notifications. I sent a message to the Forum Administrator. Here is the response I got (below). I don't know how to solve this. What can I do?

It looks like anything from us is probably being blocked. You need to talk to your ISP provider.
    Admin- Runtimedna

Just to correct a couple of points above: It's called "AT&T Connected." The supposedly tech-support expert person did start off by saying I had a virus. I spent yesterday scanning my entire drive. He said the virus was in Safari and Runtimedna.com was spamming the browser and redirecting me each time I tried to type in a site's name, redirecting to its own site, Runtimedna.com. I told him that was not the problem. Then, he started in about "AT&T Connected," and wanted me to sign up for that. We're already paying $30 per month for the ISP service, but adding the "Connected" part to it would bring it up to $45 per month. He gave me no further help. He wanted me to sign up right away. Then, after I said I would have to talk this over with someone else in the house, he left me his name and a 1-866 number so that I could call him back and sign up.
Previously, before talking with him, I had talked to a woman representative about this problem, and that's after I got beyond the computer who answers and directs people to info on the AT&T web site. The woman said she would pass the situation on, took my phone number and other information, and said that a tech-support expert would call me.

  • Am I being Keystroke Logged?

I get tons of spam and lots of it is about things that I have recently typed. Example: I set up a website recently on my own web server (in datacenter) that was for a Court Reporter. Within 2 days I got an email:
"Compare these special offers chosen exclusively for you
    Court Reporting
Become a Court Reporter - find classes online or near you. More Info
Get information on court reporter careers. More Info"
This happens all the time. It's too much to be just a coincidence.
I do run macKeeper and it says my machines are clean.
Anyone else ever hear of this?

If you have Flash installed on your browser and haven't reviewed your Flash security settings (which by default are pretty liberal) than all sorts of things are probably being tracked in Flash cookies.
