Probably the 2000st post about file types

Hi,
This post has been probably made 2000 times but I can't give any feedback to Adobe themselves so I thought why not here. Maybe somebody reads it.
I love Adobe.. I use Photoshop CS3, Dreamweaver CS3 every day at work and I really can't live without it. So I thought, why not try a video editing program of Adobe. It must be good!
So I downloaded Premiere Pro CS3 and played around. I'm really bugged out by the product though. I'm not a professional video editor so correct me if I am wrong but I use the main file extensions an all day user would use. If i look in the list Premiere only accepts avi, mov, wmv & wma. Where the heck are : mpg, mpeg, mp1, mp2, mp4, divx, qt, ram, VOB (Regular DVD!!!)and so on.. these are the basic file types.
I mean this is like the iPhone which claims to have full internet but doesnt support Flash (95% of the internet is Flash)...
I'm not looking for an answer here but just a bit bugged out that an Adobe product is cripple as f***. I'm not used to this with Adobe.
AH well, maybe they will make a product someday to support the regular files each user has on the internet.

Also, is the version that you downloaded is the "trial," or the "full," with registration key/SN and Activation?
MPG (many flavors) are supported by the FULL, but not the "trial" versions. The support of MPG will differ, depending on what sort of MPG it is. There will likely be some problems, that will be specific to that particular file. You can often get good results, if things line up perfectly. However, as others have stated, compressed file formats are not what PPro is designed to work with. Quality will suffer. Problems with GOPs will exist. If you do not mind these, then the FULL version will work, with limitations.
As for VOB handling, that will not happen, except with intermediate steps taken BEFORE you try to Import into PPro. You'll need a full toolbox of utilities, but most are freeware, or rather inexpensive. Still, this work will be outside of PPro.
The FULL version has a 30-day, money-back guarantee. If you have the trial version, remove it completely. See Eddie Lotter's PPro-Wiki for complete details and follow EVERY step! THEN, and only THEN, install the full version. Try out the MPG aspects and see if you can live with the results and the little problems. I think it works fine with many of these files, just so long as I inform the client that there WILL be a quality loss and extra time to trouble-shoot. They still bring in compressed formats, so if they're happy, I'm happy.

In case you did not find it, the following is a copy/paste of the Announcement on Premiere Elements 19/NVIDIA GeForce
that appears at the top of this forum.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are experiencing
Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of troubleshooting needs to be rolling
back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained workflow
glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce video card. If this applies
to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card driver as far as is necessary to get rid of
the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere
Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

  • Get the latest posts about any product via RSS to ...

    Hi all,
the easiest way to follow the posts about a certain phone model is to use our RSS feeds. This way you will see at one glance when anyone mentions your phone model in any topic.
If you are unfamiliar with RSS, you can read more from Wikipedia >>
There are two ways to create an RSS feed for any keyword, such as "n95", "sports tracker" etc.:
    1) Create any RSS feed from our search
    - type your keyword in the "Search Discussions" box on the right
    - on the results page, click "Search Options" -> "Subscribe to this search's RSS feed"
Note that the resulting page looks different depending on which browser you use. IE6 will show the contents of the xml file but Firefox and IE7 will show the proper feed. If needed, copy-paste the url of that page to an RSS reader of your choice.
    2) Use our iGoogle gadget
You can create a personalized mainpage to Google via www.google.com/ig where you can collect your favorite RSS feeds.
You can use method 1 also in Igoogle, but to make things real easy we've designed an "iGoogle gadget" that lets you use our search from the iGoogle page, and keep the results as a constantly updating feed.
This is what it looks like:
You can add as many gadgets as you want to create a massive dashboard to what's going on here.

  • Is there a way to convert my existing music ( on my i-pod gen 2 ) from AIFF to the Apple Loss-less file type ?

    Hi Folks,
    Hope someone can help -
After spendings Hours / Days loading copying masses of music ( mostly CD's) to my recently acquired i-pod touch
I'm now fast running out of space!
Most all of this was loaded using the AIFF file format - which I now realise is almost twice the file size
when compared to the Apple Loss-Less format -
I've tried selecting high/lighting tracks ( on the pod )  then select File ( top right on tab ) & then Right Click >
But the option to convert to Apple-LL is 'Greyed out' ?
How do I convert them ? ( Preferable in groups or at least Album by Album rather than starting all over from scratch! )
    Await your thoughts Regards  M.G.
Apoligies if Iv'e missed out any relevant details - As youv'e probably guessed I'm a bit ~ new to this ~

    Hi IIIaass,
Yes I've tried diffrent kbps settings but as I don't know how they copare with AplesLL
    it's a bit hit & miss??
Basically all my music is for Dance sessions which often get played at a fair
old volume ( to fill the hall ) which is why I've decided to get it all in one format -
Iv'e just purchased an i-Pad ( to replace my i-Pod ) as it has much larger
storage capacity. It's only a Gen1 - but is soley for music
( so not bothered about internet or watching DVD's etc )
Yes Iv'e had a Google - but it doesn't sound promising
( the few that do seem to be compatable still have problems with 'Tags' or
something to do with track lists / data ?? )
I'm gonner stick with Apple LL - It's what the i-Pad was made for ( me thinks )
Do you know what quality is used by i-Tunes it-self for it's downloads?
I ask this because if I recall correctly?  Under the heading where you can
sellect kbps or AIFF etc it states " These settings do not apply to downloads"
I think what I'm trying to ascertain is - Would I get far better results by buying CD's
& manualy copying them to my i-tunes device - rather than downloading inferior versions?
My reasoning re- going this route is -  I'll always have hard copies to keep ( literally )
Along with the saving grace ( & heart ache ) if/when a device fails or the system
crashes I'd risk loosing everything !
    Anyhows, Thanks for your support
    Kind Regards  M.G.

  • I don't have pdf documents listed as a file type in the applications drop down menu so I cannot manage the handling of these file types. How do I get the pdf file recognised?

I don't have pdf documents listed as a file type in the drop down applications menu, so cannot handle these. How do I add a file type?

After a little Googling, it looks like B.Media is a content management system from Wave Corporation used for making catalogs. Doubtful you'd be able to license it at less than an enterprise level.

  • Using the value "Image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of preconfigured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .?

On a form, using the value "image/*" for the accept attribute of the HTML input Element, how can I add .pdf to the array of pre-configured file types (.jpe, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .png, .bmp, .ico, .svg, .svgz, .tif, .tiff, .ai, .drw, .pct, .psp, .xcf, .psd, .raw)?
Say I wanted to add .gif, .jfif or .ico. I find this array limited, how can I add types to image?
    <input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*" id="file" />
mimeTypes.rdf does not seem to allow this.

''mimeTypes.rdf'' has nothing to do with web development. It's a file that stores your file handling preferences (e.g. if you want ZIP files automatically saved or opened).
You can't change the file types of the pre-defined content specifiers (audio/*, video/*, image/*), but you can specify additional MIME types. To add PDF to your above example,
    <pre><nowiki><input type="file" name="file" accept="image/*,application/pdf" id="file" /></nowiki></pre>

  • Try to export address book but the drop down for file type is blank. no options are offered. Version 24.5.

An unusual problem happened when I upgraded from earlier version of thunderbird - which was working fine - version 9. I decided to update. So update to latest version. Once I did this something happened:
    1. When I go to address book, I select address book and then select Export.
    2. The export window pops up, but the field where you select FILE TYPE is blank - there is no CSV, TXT etc. options to select.
So... I saved a copy of my profile as a back up.
    Then I uninstalled that version.
Then installed the version my husband is using - 24.5 - which he uses with no problems at all.
After installing the 24.5 version I still have the same problem. We are completely stumped and don't know what is causing this.
Something must have happened when I upgraded from the very early version 9 to the 31.
Its like its not seeing the FILE TYPE to display when I go to export.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You
    Daphna

Restart Thunderbird with add ons disabled. You might have one that does not like the newer versions. You can do this from the Help menu.

  • Is there a way to set the aspect ratio or file type in the camera for video settings?

I always convert my .MOV videos to WMV so I can upload to my web site.  However, with my new iPhone (iOS7), the vidoes are distorted due to aspect ratio issues.  I'd like to set the output aspect ratio and.or file type when I create a new video on my iPhone 5s.

There is no user setting for this in the native iOS app. It is possible that if you use some other 3rd party app you can make some changes to that, but I'm not sure. There are also no settings for changing the file type on the phone itself.
I've not experienced any issues with distortion on mine, but it could be your converter. Have you tried another one?

  • Isit possible to change the default save as file type settings?

    Hi,
I would like to set the default "save" and "save as" file type to "PDF /A" instead of the default "PDF" due to compatibility issue with some of our systems. Can this be done?
So when a user click on the save button at the top it auto save as "PDF /A" and when the user select save as the default selection will be "PDF /A" ?

    Dave,
Did you ever find an answer to this? We are having the same issue.
    Thanks,

  • How can I get the open counts on file type items?

One of the managers' point of interesting on Portal usage is to know how frequently items are opened to view.
I need to preapre a report to show managers which items (file type) are opened most frequently? and who opened the item most?
    How can I do it?
    Thanks,

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
Are you saying that you bought a used or second hand Mac? In North America an open box Mac usually refers to a display model used in a store.
There is mixed info on this issue. Some folks in the US have called Apple Care and requested that the iLife apps prebundled with this specific Mac be released from original owner's Apple ID so the new owner can Accept the apps into their Apple ID, with success. Folks in Europe report that when making the same request of Apple Care they are met with resistance and are unsuccessful.
    YMMV
The sad thing is that if Apple Care will not release the apps, then the owner of a second hand Mac cannot even purchaase the apps on their Mac! To buy the apps with their own account, they would need to find an older Mac running at least OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with a Mac App Store (MAS), that also has never had the MAS versions of the iLife apps installed on it.

  • Why won't Windows 7 permit my CC programs to be the default programs for file types?

I just uninstalled all of my CS6programs to free up disk space. But now....Windows 7 will not associate JPG, JPEG, GIF, TIFF, INDD, etc. (the typical file types) with my CC programs, -- all of the file types which had previously been associated with my CS6 programs!! Don't misunderstand: I can open the actual file(s) just fine from within the programs themselves, but if I am browsing through my folders, and select a file and try to open from Windows Explorer, it has now been associated with Windows Photo Viewer. And when I try to manually associate the file types with my CC programs, not only are the programs not amongst the choices, Photoshop and InDesign won't remain as my chosen program when I browse through to fine the EXE file!! This is NOT good. This is going to seriously eat into the efficiency of my work flow.

Windows only stores a file type connection for one application. It sounds like your installation of the CC apps didn't update the file type to themselves so when you uninstalled your CS6 apps, Windows just disconnected the association of the file types completely.
What you'll need to do is either reinstall the CC apps to make the connection again or you can manually reassign the file types to the associated program. Watching the video here, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-default, will show you how to change the file associations.

  • Changing The Preview Image for File Types

Is there any way for me to change the image that shows up as the preview for file types? For example, I use OpenOffice and all my .doc files show up as blank pages of paper, which I don't like. I've tried to change this to no avail, from using the "Get Info" window to within the program itself. Any help?

If you have an image that you want to use, do a Get Info on it, select the image at the top of the box and then copy from the Edit menu. Then on your OpenOffice document do a Get Info and paste the image into the little image icon at the top of the Get Info box.

  • Question about file type designations

    Hi,
I use a program called Sound Studio to record meetings that I do. Lately, what's happening now when I download videos emailed by friends, the file extension says .mp4, but when I open them, Sound Studio opens up and I only hear the audio (because audio is all that program does). When I do the get info command, the instructions say open file with Sound Studio, rather than QuickTime.
Is there some kind of setting somewhere, either in Snow Leopard or in Safari, where I can set that all downloaded video files are to be opened by Quicktime?
    Thanks.

change the default app in that popup from sound studio to anything you want to use like Quicktime player and click 'change all".
