Proble with Alt-keys

I have a problem with my keyboard: both Alt-keys work "wrong": the left only writes the following letters: äASDF© And the right one puts the aktive screen to the left side of the display (when I click on the side-bar it appears again...)
Can someone help me please
Alois

When I press left alt once ---> äASDF© is typed.
When I hold the key --> äASDFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
I'd borrow another usb keyboard somewhere and see if it does the same thing.

  • Problem with alt key in Photoshop CC2014

    I'm running Photoshop CC 2014.2.2 Release under Win 7 on a dual monitor system 12 G ram, i7 processor, and a Radeon HD 6700 Graphics card. Everything was working fine until a few days ago. The first problem I noticed was in using ALT-left click to reduce zoom. CTRL-left click zoomed up OK but ALT-left click acted almost like I was pressing the F key to change the view. There are work-arounds for zooming so I continued working. Then I found I could not add a black mask to a layer by pressing ALT while clicking the add layer mask button on the layer panel. I also found that ALT didn't work right in ACR. For example in ACR holding down the ALT key changes the Cancel button to Reset, but clicking on Reset doesn't in fact reset any of the sliders.
    I've closed and reopened Photoshop which helped for a short while but the problem came back. I opened Photoshop with the SHIFT-CTRL-ALT keys held down and accepted the resulting dialog box offer to delete preferences, which helped but again the problem returned. I've deleted and redownloaded Photoshop two or three times to no avail, and the last time I also checked that alt key combinations in both Bridge and Lightroom work OK at the same time they are not working in Photoshop. I haven't seen the Alt key misbehave in any application but Photoshop.
    I would any suggestions any of you might have about what is wrong.

    Just to clarify, are you referring to Alt Space bar left click and drag for zoom?  If yes, then that needs 'Use GPU' enabled in Preferences > Performance.  So can you check that? It actually works with either Ctrl or Alt together with the space bar. Left mouse click and drag left and right to zoom in and out.
    If GPU is checked, can you try some different settings?

  • Getting white screen when booting with alt key

    Hi, I've installed windows 7 with boot camp on my brand new iMac 27" on OS X Lion.
    Everything works fine when I configure boot camp to start as mac, or as windows.
    However If I press the alt key when booting, as per this tutorial http://labnol.blogspot.com/2006/04/boot-camp-tutorial-install-windows-xp.html I get a white screen and that's it. Any Idea as to what might be the problem?

    Hi
    Try resetting the Parameter RAM (PRAM) - pronounced peeram. Restart the mac and depress the P, R, alt and command keys simultaneously. You should hear the boot chime. Keep the keys depressed until you hear the boot chime three more times. Release the keys thereafter.
    Other possibilities are: you're filling up the hard drive and you need to clear some space; a problem is developing with the hard drive and/or directory structure. You need to run a disk repair utility such as fsck, DU's Repair Disk coupled with Repairing Privileges or something 3rd-Party such as Disk Warrior.

  • Problem with ALT key display

    Hello,
    I am having an aesthetic problem with my q10 that i just got today. I was entering some contacts into my phone when I realized that the ALT key is activated whenever I add phone numbers. When I first got the phone the ALT key did not light up whenever I put contact numbers on my phone. I restarted, and set the phone to the factory settings but this will still not disapear.
    I am wondering if there is a way if I could the ALT key to not be showing while I put in contact numbers. It does not effect my phone, its just annoying to see something that didn't used to be there.
    Thanks

  • Problem with ALT key in X apps through ssh

    Hello
    I am using gnome-shell with no problems so far. I use a couple of programs in remote machines made with QT, like kwrite for example.
    I connect to the remote machine using:
    ssh -Y user@remotehost
    In the ssh console everything works just fine, but when I start any remote QT application, I see that there's something wrong with the keyboard. The right ALT key doesn't seem to work.
    I use Spanish from Spain in my computer and in the remote machines and I use the right ALT to access characteres like #, {}, []. €....
    When I try to write € for example (the euro symbol is in the "e" key), I get an "e", not the euro, as if right alt does not work at all. The same happens with the others as far as I tried.
    I also get a bunch of errors or warnings in the console when I open, for example kwrite, but I don' t think they have anything to do with the problem I'm trying to fix here. Just in case, this is what I get when I start kwrite en the remote machine:
    X Error: BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied) 10

    I use konsole locally, so I installed it along with its dependencies of kdebase, but didn't change anything.
    By the way, remote QT apps look awful, the buttons are like... VGA, and the fonts look sawed and sharp. (Locally, I have the Ubuntu's patched fonts and they look really good)
    I don't know how to begin a diagnose of the problem, any help would be apreciated.
    Thanks

  • Text Ring misbehavior with ALT key - Win 7

    This may not be a LabVIEW problem, but maybe somebody knows a workaround.
    LV 2010.0
    I have a text ring, populated with only one item.
    I intercept the MOUSE DOWN? event on this control.
    Upon that event, I look at the MODIFIER keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt) and populate the control's menu (STRINGS & VALUES) according to which key(if any) is pressed.
    (The point is to offer channels in alphabetical order, or in order of units, or in order of hardware type, etc...)
    After populating the menu, the menu pops up and the user sees the list rearranged in whichever fashion.
    The user chooses one, and the VALUE CHANGED event triggers removal of the full menu and insertion of the single chosen item.
    This worked fine..... until I moved to Win 7.
    Now, when I try the ALT option - the menu just flashes and then disappears.  The first time you ALT-click, it appears for maybe 0.3-0.5 second and then drops.  Subsequent times it just draws the frame and then drops - it's just a blip - maybe 0.1 second.
    Clicking on it without ALT works normally, and then the next ALT click will restore the long (0.3-0.5 sec) behavior.
    If you release the ALT key during that 0.3-0.5 seconds, the menu sticks and works OK, but that's not something people are expecting to do.
    It's not my code at fault: try this yourself:
    Place a TEXT ring or a MENU ring on a new panel.
    Enter "A", "B", "C" as your items.
    without even running the VI, Alt - click on the thing.
    In Win 7, it flashes the menu, then takes it away.
    I've looked for some Easy Access feature that was turned on by mistake - Mouse Keys, Sticky Keys, Toggle Keys, Filter Keys, they're all OFF.
    Is there a "don't be stupid" preference somewhere that I could turn on? Or do I have to switch to another key?
    (I'm using ALt, Ctrl, Shift - maybe I could use the Win Key...)

  • Run-time menu tabbing with ALT key

    I have created my custom menu bar and it works fine when clicking on the menu item with the mouse.
    Using the Alt key selects the first menu item, and the arrow keys navigate along the items fine, but pressing the keyboard Enter button does not select the item. The example VIs don't work either. What am I missing?

    What they mean is that you should look in here

  • Trackball only with 'alt key' in some menus

    I have searched and cannot find any answer.
    I did a battery pull. Then i wiped the entire thing clean and started anew. Removed all apps, etc....
    Still have to hold down alt to navigate w/ trackball in some menus.

    Ah ha - okay. So you're using escapes too, rather than meta8 (this is the default, so makes sense). Yeah, I got it working doing that, but had to adapt my .vimrc to get it to acknowledge the ^[ as "alt". Didn't you, or did a simple map of e.g. <A-a> suffice?
    Are you running it in screen/tmux btw? and what is your TERM set to?
    Yeah, I thought that too and though I do run it in tmux usually, I've been testing it both with and without (TERM is set to screen-256color BTW) and it made no difference. Still, unless I specifically map the ^[ to alt in vim, it doesn't work. With meta8 it works so long as the locale is not UTF-8.
    Guess I've got a workaround for now, but it would be nice if meta8 and utf-8 worked nicely together.
    Thanks.
    Could you please show how your vimrc looks like? I have the same problem and I'm interested in your workaround.

  • No way to start unless alt key is pressed during startup

    2QuadCOre 2x3,2 GHZ , 10.6.8 MAc Pro  - very annoying issue.
    Starting normally I cannot pass grey screen of death .
    The only way to pass this point is to force restart with alt key pressed - and then click on my startup drive ( i have several drives with OSX ) I have been runninmg disk utility / repairing priviliges etc .
    Obviosly my system drive is chosen and locked in system preferences.
    Any hints how to fix it .
    Thank you .

    I'd probably make two backups of the disk (to external disk drives), and then nuke and pave the installation.
    But since you're probably not going to start there given your current approach, start by resetting the SMC, et al.
    I might well install the 10.6.8 Combo update (not the delta update), as well.
    Some folks suggest acquiring and installing an add-on repair tool such as Disk Warrior.  (I'm somewhat skeptical around those, though they do apparently work for some folks.)
    Permission repairs and disk repairs are typically entirely ineffective with corrupted files, corrupted parameter settings, etc.
    The usual low-level command for enabling and selecting a boot disk is bless.  This is an older discussion, and there are others discussing the tool around.
    But when a Unix boot disk goes wonky, starting over (and importing your environment as part of the nuke-and-pave sequence) tends to be the best value for your time.   And you get good, complete, and current backups of your data, assuming the backup tool doesn't become derailed by whatever corruption(s) might be lurking here.

  • Can't find the alt key in 9105.

    I recently noticed that there is no alt key in my newly purchased pearl 9105 and I need to figure out a way to do something with alt key and a key combination to clear the app world. Can anyone tell me a workaround to this?

    On the 9105 model, to clear the AppWorld cache:
    Up, Down, Up, Down, Up + RST
     The up/down keys are the volume keys. I've been told this is the keyboard sequence, but I don't have the ability to test. I don't know if you need to use multi-tap for RST or if just one key press is sufficient. Perhaps you can let me know.

  • Re: Using Alt-Key combinations

    Unfortunately this happens not only with Alt-Key combinations. It also
    happens with the ordinary F10 key: Windows activates the menu and then
    Forte gets the FKey event. The problem is that now the user has to press
    ESC to deactivate the menu and continue normal processing. There is no
    known cure yet...

    trying to find a menu item with that shortcut combination or a button with
    that combination. Since Windows can not find the proper element with that
    combination, it beeps at us. At that point, Forte picks up the key
    combination and will post the FunctionKeyPress event.
    The application will work fine, but the beep is not only annoying, but also
    is misleading for those individuals using accessibility tools like screen
    readers who rely upon audible queues for detecting errors in keyboarding.
    Has anyone found any viable solutions to this problem?--

  • Submitting form with Enter key

    Hello,
    in standard html form, when you have form with submit button, the enter key when any form element is selected submits the form.
    This is very convenient for users, so I want this with UIX forms. I know it is possible (I have one form where it is working), but I can't get it working anywhere else.
    This code works:
    <uix:form method="post" name="newRoleForm">
    <uix:inlineMessage prompt="Role name">
    <uix:textInput name="newRoleName" />
    <uix:spacer width="15" />
    <uix:submitButton text="Create" formName="newRoleForm" />
    </uix:inlineMessage>
    <uix:formValue name="jboEvent" value="newRole" />
    </uix:form>
    When I copy this code to another page, it does not work...
    Can somebody help, please?

    I've studied the HTML generated by UIX and it has following bugs and misfeatures:
    1. Misfeature: Submitting with Enter works ONLY if there is exactly one text field in the form (no submit button is actually needed), as Brian Stoler wrote. I don't understand reason for this.
    2. Bug: UIX generates javascript function "_submitOnEnter" which is called as event handler for "onKeyPress" event. But this function is erroneously generated multiple times, once for each form in the page. Browsers (Mozilla and IE) use the latest implementation. This function is different for forms with one text field and for forms with more text field, but only the first one can do the job. As a consequence of this, Enter can submit the form only if the last form on a page has single text field (which is for example not the case of search form with single field above another form...)
    Tested with UIX 2.1.7 in JDeveloper 9.0.3.3, using UIX as JSP tag library.
    Workaround:
    1. Use Opera browser: it submits form with enter key even if there is no submit button (this does not work for the first text field in the form, because it has "onkeypress" event handler).
    2. Implement this feature by hand yourself, if you really need it (see below).
    3. Use accessKey: allows to submit form with Alt+<key> combination (followed by Enter with IE).
    Implementing Enter key submits with Javascript:
    1. Put the following function to the header (or to javascript library):
    function enter(e, frm) {
    var kc;
    if(window.event) kc=window.event.keyCode;
    else if(e) kc=e.which;
    else return true;
    if(kc==13) {
    submitForm(frm,1);
    return false;
    Function copied from UIX (C).
    2. Add this event handler to each input element:
    onKeyPress="return enter(event, 'formName');"
    It is obvious that this is error prone, but it works with all browsers...
    Will this be fixed in future versions?
    Why only form with one text field can be submitted?

  • How to trap ALT key?

    Hello guys!
    After searching and investigating quite a lot, I am posting
    my problem here in hope that God bless me with success
    I am working on an eLearning course whereas client requied
    the course to be keyboard accessible. He wants all the shortcuts
    with Alt key combination.
    I can trap the Alt key with the use of enterframe but that
    makes my course processing heavy so I tried to trap Alt key with
    keylistener event but unfortunately keylistener event doesn't
    listen Alt key
    Could anyone suggest me how to trap Alt key without using
    enterframe or interval?
    Thanks a lot for sparing your precisious time.

    I believe Alt-Space is a keyboard shortcut in Windows XP to bring up the window menu for any app...so it's not just a LabVIEW thing. Further, it appears that Windows grabs that key combination before a LabVIEW event structure can get it.  I don't know any way around this behavior, since Windows appears to be taking matters into its own hands with certain key combinations.  My advice would be to use a different key combination for your app.
