Problem: 4 x 512 MB Kingston HyperX DDR400 @ 320

I added other 2 sticks of ram at my configuration to have 2 GB total: 4 x 512 MB DDR 400 Kingston HyperX.
The problem is that before (2 x 512) they ran at 400 Mhz, now (4 x 512) they run at 320 Mhz. I tried to relax timings (3-4-4-8) and set slow mode with voltage of 2,75 ~ 2,90 to get 400 Mhz but the motherboard reset all at 320.
I read that someone on this forum got 1:1 with 4 x 512 mb ram, is there any trick? How can I get my ram back to its nominal frequency?
Now I have 2 GB but they run slower than before.
Any help is much appreciated.

evil ryu.
I run my 4x256 modules at SPD (CL3) / Ultra Turbo, you don´t need no manual settings if the mem.modules can handle it.
Well, i thought Turbo sets the timings to 2-2-3-5 and Ultra Turbo to 2-2-2-5, no? For example, when i had my TwinX 3200LL from Corsair, which couldnt do 2-2-2-5, Ultra Turbo mode never worked, until i disabled SPD and set the timings manually. Maybe thats not the case with higher rated CL3 RAM though. Ever way, that idea just stroke my mind and so i posted it. No big deal.

Of course when first building new system I stuck both modules into dimms 1&2 for dual channel. Didn't work, dlink LED says bad memory or user installed error. I pull out the second stick and it then posts fine with 1 stick in dimm1. Install windows, etc and come back to the dual channel problem. Tried runnings sticks in: dimm1&2, dimm3&4, dimm1&3 none worked, all had same error as before and no post.
So I make note of which stick is which, we will say stick A is the one system booted fine with to begin with in dimm1....I tried taking it out and putting stick B in the same exact dimm1, and I got memory error on dlink. Tried running stick B in dimm3 and memory error again. Again tried dimm1&2, 3&4, 1&3 switching sticks A and B so that I hit every possible combination.
I pump up voltage to 2.6 (what the memory says it runs at), still no post. Bump to 2.7, still no post. Ram settings were all on auto, 2T to begin with so I try the listed spec from kingston (2-3-2-6) no post. I can get stick A to run fine at [auto] everything & 1T, or 2.5-3-3-8 & 1T (which I got from cpu-z). But stick B continually fails to post.
Ok....I figure DOA stick, so I try one last test by putting stick B in a Dell we have and it boots up just fine (333mhz limited by chipset). Ran memtest86+ for 15 passes and 0 errors before stopping. I tried running memtest86+ on the winchester machine but it doesnt work, lack of cpu support? So I take stick B back to my computer, set the max dram speed to 333 (since it ran at that on dell) and try just the single stick B again, fails to post in dimm1 or dimm3.
Now I move to different bios...
    1.5X = stick B wont post
    1.51 = stick B wont post
    1.41 = stick B wont post
I've also got a generic 512mb stick that will run the system fine in any dimm slot by itself.
Cliff notes: stick A works fine with system in any single channel slot, stick B wont post even in same dimm the 1st would post in or any other single/dual channel combination. But stick B runs fine by itself in a Dell now so not DOA! What to do?

None of those threads have much to do with my problem :(
I already know these run at 2.5-3-3-8 timings instead of advertised 2-3-2-6, but changing the timings has had no affect on stick B working in this computer. Neither has the voltage.
I just want dual channel, ddr400 speed, whatever latencies, and 1T.  I don't see how it could be the cpu's memory controller, or the motherboard since one stick works fine in slots the other *MATCHED* stick doesn't! Time to overnight advance RMA me a new pair.

  • P45 Platinum + Kingston HyperX KHX8500D2K2/2G Problem

    Hi!
I bought a P45 Platinum + Kingston HyperX KHX8500D2K2/2G Memory Kit + CPU Intel E8400 Duo Core. I can't get my system running at 1066Mhz. I upgraded bios to version 1.2 but it still doesn't work. I set many configs but windows xp does not boot or the machine keeps rebooting.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I have the same set of memory modules.  The proper settings for DDR2-1066 clock speed vary between BIOS Version [after all DDR2-1066 for these modules is a double overclock: memory controller beyond specs and memory chips beyond specs]. I never had problems to get both of these sticks  to POST in Dual Channel mode on this board.  DDR2-1066 can be tricky with some BIOS Versions but DDR2-800 has to be possible at all times with all Versions (at least, that never was a problem in my case).
The Bottom line is:  If you can't get your system to get through POST @DDR2-800 MHz with both modules in dual channel configuration, one of the follwing explanation to come to mind:
    - short circuit within the case affecting one of the memory slots [test the board outside the case on a non-conducting surface]
    - defective memory slot [if you have tested in Slot 1 & 3, try Slot 2 & 4 and see if anything changes]
    - faulty modules [maybe one of them [did all 10 memtest tests pass on each module without errors?]
    - faulty mainboard

I would like both sticks working together at 1066Mhz. Is this possible?
    It should be possible, yes.

    OK, so thats the spec:
    Microstar K8T Neo2

And here's the problem, watch out - its gonna get real wierd from now on :D
First setup: Green Slot 1 + Purpule Slot 1 = system dead
    Second: Green 2 + Purp 2 = system dead
Third: Green 2, only one dice installed and heres what happend: It booted (wow!) but.. the system recognizes it as a 256 dice !! I've triple chcecked, its a double sided 512 module! When I insert both modules into green1 and green2 the system sees only 512 megs while it obvioulsly should see 1 GB !
I have totally NO IDEA whats going one. The memory modules had been chcecked on a dual channel Nforce2 with a Barton CPU and it works perfectly at peak timings with the proper memory ammount.
I ask You, what the hell is going on ?

Interestingly enough I have exactly the opposit issue.
With BIOS 3.0 my system detected all the memory.
I updated to 3.2 and now it only detects 1/2 my memory.  I tried all the slot swaping same issue.
I've downgraded to BIOS 3.0 and my system randomly shuts off.

After reading over the unofficial guide more carefully, i cam accross a link to kingston homepage about a related issue with the KHX3200/xxx modules: http://www.kingston.com/support/faqs/memory/intel_3.asp
This has led me to believe that the KHX3200UL/xxx modules will infact not work, as they are more vigerous than the KHX3200/xxx modules. According to the second solution of that link, i have purchased 2x KHX3200A/512 modules (same ram with slower timings) which, according to kingston, should work with i865 boards. Is anyone able to confirm this?
    Thank you again

    B.Tomas,
One more thing I forgot to mention and I am not sure if you have done it already is I did up my memory voltage to 2.7 to get it to run without any errors
As Serious states you must use a " Dual Channel" kit. I tried to run "DualChannel" with two sticks that were exactly the same specs{or so I thought} but bought at different times and I had nothing but trouble.
I did update my bios but only because I am running a Prescott I am not sure if this has anything to do with why my memory is working.

  • Kingston HyperX Memory & K8N Neo2 Platinum

    Hello.
    I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board (BIOS 1.3) with AMD 64 3000+ 939 CPU.
I am trying to run this with 2 Kingston HyperX PC3200 512MB memory (KHX3200ULK2/1G).  This is the latest "Ultra-low Latency" memory from Kingston.
When I run this memory with NO overclocking at 2-2-2-5-1 at 2.7 volts (standard setting for this memory) with a single module, I get NO errors.  When I try both chips in dual-channel mode, I get errors (on MemTest86).
(I also get errors if I run this memory on "Auto" setting in BIOS)
I CAN run 2 sticks of Crucial PC3200 512MB (regular, not Ballistix)  at standard settings in dual-channel with no errors.
Has anyone got this memory to work on this board in dual-channel mode?  If so, how? At what timings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to at least find a sweeter spot.
You may even have to go to 2T and non aggressive settings.
Why would the timings work when in single channel mode, but not in dual channel, when the Crucial memory works fine in dual channel at the same timings used in single channel?
On a side note, the Kingston pair was purchased together in a matched set, while the 2 Crucial sticks (actually the memory from my system) were bought seperately over a month apart.
The timings that RZT tried are the exact ones Kingston specifies for that model, there should be NO reason whatsoever they wouldn't work at those timings, dual or single channel.
Please correct me if I am wrong...
First of all, I said "in the meantime," meaning until someone else came up with a better answer. If I have problems with memory, regardless of what the manufacturer says' I hunt for a sweetspot (if there is one).

That's like trying to compare apples to oranges. Two different manufacturers and likely different chips onboard, not to mention likely different PCB design.
What I suspect is either one stick is further out of spec than the other and they are not a properly matched pair. Kingston has a history with the nForce chipset which leaves little to be desired.
That is why you might see very similar systems, and one works with the same ram, and the other doesn't. It's called parametric differences. In short, one stick my be at the upper end of the spec and the other stick may be at the lower end. Then, throw in the motherboard, and the CPU, (now with the onboard memory controller) while we're at it, and you have a real touchy situation. There is little room for lower quality. That is why matched pairs exist. Doesn't mean it's mandatory, however.

I take it you know this person, otherwise this is not making sense or you are a pretty slick hijacker
Matched set can still be flawed, I get em from the best once in a while. It may not be the RAM at all. Only way to tell for sure is to try it on another identical system or try another pair that passes muster in another identical system. All this speculating is useless unless you've exhausted all possibilities.

Not wrong, maybe a little overoptimistic. Some situations warrant different measures. It's not that black and white, nor is it written in stone. At this point it only indicates there is indeed a problem, where it lies, would be better off using a dartboard to guess at this point.

  • Msi Neo2 Kingston HyperX PC3200 BH5 Any Good ?

    Hi Guys
Anyone using 2x256mb Kingston HyperX Pc3200 Bh5 on the neo2?
curious at what fsb/timings u can run.
and if 3.1-> V would help.
thinking of buying a pair but would be great seeing some results first.
    thx in advance.

    nice thread crap...
i ordered the exact ram you are talking about, and it is a STEAL at its current price at outpost.com.  ill be receiving my sticks tomorrow, so ill have to wait and see what they can do over the weekend.
however, its been shown that BH-5 memory performs at its best at 3V+, and this board can only do 2.85v.  so, it remains to be see what can be achieved.  i hope a BIOS update will bump up the voltage.
go ahead and get it.  its a great deal at that price.

  • SSD Speed Test on MBP 13" Kingston HyperX 120GB

    Whats up guys/gals?
First of all i just picked up my first MBP 13" from the Apple store on 9/11/13
In those few days ive done a few things.
First i removed the HDD and installed my Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD that was previously in my desktop.
I also removed the optical drive, Installed the stock 500GB drive in a Data Doubler.
Its boothing quite fast and its nice to have all this extra storage, however,
on "Disk Speed Test" im only showing 140MB/s write & 410MB/s read.
I have not done anything with system settings after installing this drive. Do i need to enable TRIM? Is it ok to sleep the MBP (close the lid) on the SSD?
The speeds seem a bit slow for a SSD. Is there anything i am missing?
    Here are some photos.

Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test? You could have something like a thermal sensor that isn't working properly and your fan never gets the signal to increase speed.
Hopefully you are under warranty and can get this fixed for free. It would be prudent to find out what's wrong and get it fixed even if you have to pay--it should not be a very expensive repair.
    Good luck!

I have recentrly bought a MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM together with KINGSTON HYPERX PC3200 1GB KIT (which should run 2-2-2-5-1T)
But for the moment I only get them stable at 2.5-3-3-8-1T)
If I change from 2.5 -> 2 NO BOOT , i have to use the reset jumper...
The voltage I use is 2,75V
What can you guys suggest ?
    Best Regards,
    Yves

yes, when I changed the 2T to 1T I noticed a rather big diference ...
but still ... I bought those for the 2-2-2-5-1T setting so I will rma them if I can't get them to run at that speed...
I have send an email to kingston ... also waiting for their reply ...
also this evening I will try it with a more powerful PSU !

My question is, are my timings acceptable here for stability purposes? I read in another forum that the Phenom II's run better with lower "tighter" timings.  However as you can see in my pic I have a LinX stress test results showing it passed all 20 loops with ALL memory selected @ timings of 8-8-8-24 @ 1.67V.  If I pass this test, does this mean I'm very stable? Also, if someone else has this mobo with this ram, have you overclocked any higher? Thanks everyone

you should darn near never hit above 52*C on a Deneb... anything above 50*C and you start to loose performance. Your borderline Max hitting 57*-58*C

  • Tecra S10 - problem upgrading to SSD Kingston

    Hi!
Tecra S10 - I am trying to upgrade HDD to Kingston SSD 128MD.
During fresh install of Windows 7-64 installer complains that there is not valid bootable device to create system partition, although the disk is recognized. BIOS is the latest, I have tried both IDE and AHCI configuration.
Is there a general compatibility problem with SSD disks and older notebooks?
I noticed similar problem with Satelite A200.
    Thanks

Thanks for suggestions, but to recapitulate:
    - Kingston SDD SNV125-S2/64GB, brand new, original (confirmed by Kingston guy)
    - On my home desktop works as expected
    - Kingston guy recommended installing Ubuntu 10. Installation passed without problems, manual partitioning (/root, /boot, swap). After first reboot Tecra did not recognized boot disk.
    - I put SDD in home desktop and Ubuntu boots without any problems.
    - When in USB/eSATA enclosure Ubuntu boots when connected via USB, but not recognized when SSD is connected via eSATA cable.
    - At last I install SSD in my old Satellite L100 (2006.). Boot Win7 install DVD, delete Ubuntu, Install Windows, reboot it works, it works everywhere, but in my Tecra!!!
Is there anything else to try?
    Thanks for your patience.

  • Z77A-GD65 with 3770k & Kingston HyperX 2666mhz ratio stuck between 16&39

Hello all, its been a while since i was last on the forum (and never on intel side lol).
    I upgraded my PC from an AMD 1100t msi 990fxa-gd65 to a I7-3770k on a z77a-gd65.
Now all was working well from the start, i was able to overclock the RAM using the XMP profile both 1 and 2 (1= 2666mhz 2=2400mhz) and i was able to set a FIXED overclock of the CPU up to 4.6 stable.
However i wanted more, just because my friends kept telling me it could do it. So i attempted 4.8ghz but with little success, (only 2400mhz RAM and wasnt happy with temps (90c)).
So i thought maybe a bios update was in order, so i updated to A70 and began overclock attempts again. Now it let me have a good day of using the multiplier, first at x45 then x46 and so on to x48 (where it was unstable). Now after many attempts it no longer allows me to use a multiplier beyond x39. However the turbo will allow me to go up to x60.
I have attempted using the reset CMOS button on the rear of the case, loading defaults within BIOS, reflashing older versions of the BIOS (back to A5 which is newer than the original). Non have worked, has anyone else run into this issue.

Your friends neglected to tell you that you needs some pretty serious cooling for that amount of OC on an Ivy CPU.
The fact that your BIOS multi is inhibited but the turbo multi still allows to set anything up to X60 may indicate a problem with the BIOS itself. Have you tried a full CMOS clear with battery removal ?
Did you update the ME firmware at the same time?
If it is the -GD65, have you tried the second BIOS by manually switching to it. That should still have your old BIOS, unless you flashed both.
Don't worry we already decided to get one of the best air coolers Noctua NH-D14.
However In you reply i see you mention the ME firmware, I haven't as i did not know what it was (i thought it best not to touch it unless i knew what it was).
Also i'll whip out a GPU and do a battery pull for the CMOS then use the secondary bios if that fails. As i haven't flashed both (unless they get done at the same time.)
lol just noticed my signature, it really has been a long time since i was last on. although i only just sold that PC off :D
