Problem about Still Image

I have import a still image into FCP with resolution 720 x 576 . when i will in the source monitor, the image is clear. however, when i put it into the timeline, i can see it is blur and jitter. I have tried all method like applying "Flicker Filter" , but it doesn''t works. My sequence setting is Uncompress 8 bit with "odd" field domainance. however, when i try to change field domaninance to "None" , I can see it is clear on broadcast monitor. but i can't set it to "None" cos my footage is shooting by DV. so what elese i can do?

Did you deinterlace the image with the deinterlace filter? That usually fixes it for us, when we view it on NTSC.

Problem rendering still images

I have Core i7 with GTX690. Cuda works fine... everything works fine. It renders videos very fine but when there comes a still image...Rendering stops Applications stops, my mouse pointer starts moving slow.
Then i started opening those images in photoshop and saved them again as a new jpeg images. it solved the problem for some images... but not for all.
Please somebody help.

What are the dimensions of your sequence and the stills.
Stills need to be RGB.

Flicker problem with still images

I have a series of still images in my timeline. There is a red garment in each of these images and it is producing a moray effect on the red garment. I also keyframed some of the still images for movement and it makes the problem worse. Is there a filter or some other trick I can use to get ride of the moray problem?

Thanks Al and sorry for the misspelling, however, the original still image does not have a moire problem, it is only when I import it to FCE and I keyframe a panning movement to the image that I get the moire effect which is very distracting. Do you know of any tricks within FCE that may help remove or reduce this effect?

Problem with still image quality 1920 x 1080 HD Export

Question that I can't seem to find a clear answer for -- maybe you can help !
I am producing a film and am exporting it using the H264 setting, square pixels, CBR. Video quality is wonderful --- but I am having an issue with a still image. Essentially, I am importing an image of a film logo at the beginning of my film. The image is vector, dropped into photoshop from illustrator, saved as either an EPS or jpg, then I import that into the timeline. Once exported, video looks crisp and beautiful, but the logo at the beggining has slightly jagged edges and is NOT crystal sharp super clear as it should be or as it was saved as.
I've tried a few things but can't seem to get the formula right. I tried adjusting frame size, doesn't work. I tried bringing in a HUGE image and scaling it down, again, doesn't work. I've used many versions of premiere (since 6.0) and I don't remember ever having this sort of problem. I've tried all the frame sizes, from 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 (my source footage) and it just doesn't like to render the image crisply.
Any ideas?

Create a new .psd in Photoshop (using the Film and Video templates) that match your sequence settings. Bring the vector image into PS and add it on a second layer to that new .psd. Save out that .psd as a .png with no Interlacing.
Bring that into PP for use in the sequence.

Problem Extracting Still Image, FCP 5.1.1

I'm having a problem extracting a still image from a clip in FCP 5.1.1 I am using a Macbook Pro and editing HDV1080i60 captured from a Sony HVR-Z1U. I recently upgraded to QuickTime 7.1.1, and since I had no problem extracting stills at one point before this I wonder if QuickTime integration might be part of the problem. The problem is that as soon as I select "extract quicktime conversion" from the file > extract menu, the frame in the canvas jumps to something else besides the frame it was on that I wanted to capture. Sometimes it jumps a few frames to one close to the one I wanted, but one time it jumped all the way to the beginning of the clip. This new frame is the one it ends up capturing. Furthermore, when I then open this image in quicktime it is displayed as a distorted picture that has been compressed into a 4:3 image instead of the proper 16:9 size.
Any help with what might be going on here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I have recently discovered that the issue of FCP jumping to another frame than the one I wanted to capture has to do with a setting on the camera that I used when shooting. (The footage was shot using a reduced frame rate setting option on the camera). The more important issue now is that the exported image that I get, even though it is the right one, is squeezed into a 4:3 size, distorting everything in it. Any ideas on this? Everything worked fine before I upgraded to the new version of QuickTime, and I can't help but think there might be a bug in the new version or something. But maybe theres something I have set wrong?

Problem importing "still" images from DV tape

I m trying to solve the following problem:
I need to edit (fades, overdub etc.) a movie which has been mastered by someone else.
The DV tape I am trying to import has a lot of "still" sequences that were generated as follows:
- The source DV tape was paused while the target (master) DV recorder was recording e.g. for five seconds.
This works fine on the resulting DV tape: The paused frame from the source tape is shown e.g. for five secs, then the next "real" clip is shown seamlessly.
However, upon import from the camera/master tape, iMovie discards these pseudo-still images: They show up as 0 kB files in the event folder.
This happens both with manual and automatic import.
I do not have access to the source material, i.e. the raw tapes and clips that were used this way. This means I cannot "rebuild" these discarded clips.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem - i.e. have iMovie recognize these clips that are actually paused source material?
Or is this something that would require Final Cut? Or may a third-party tool? I would send a few bucks if necessary.

thank you for replying, but I probably didn't describe the problem properly ...
You suggest dragging a clip from the event into the project and then creating a Still Frame from it.
I cannot do this because iMovie will not import these clips *at all* - i.e., they are not physically present on the Mac although they show up on screen during import.
Here is what happens:
- Let's say I have three clips on my Digital Video Tape:
- the first is a short, "real" scene,
- the second was generated by pausing the source camcorder and recording this paused frame on the master camcorder for a few seconds
- the third is another "real" scene.
The resulting DV master tape (which I am working with) plays back properly on the camcorder: scene 1, scene 2 (a paused frame), scene 3.
When importing this into iMovie, I end up with these files in iMovie's event folder:
"clip-2009-07-02 01;55;37.dv" 34 MB
"clip-2009-07-02 01;56;10.dv" 0KB <-
"clip-2009-07-02 05;51;26.dv" 21 MB
I.e, iMovie discards these clips upon import - so there is nothing to generate a still frame from.
So I need to get around the import problem.
Even a third-party tool for importing such "paused still frame" clips from a DV tape would help. I just need to get them onto the Mac HD.

Problems loading still images on certain Websites

Folks:
I was having problems with installing Flash Player 9 on Mac OS X...which I think I fixed by enabling Quicktime MIME plug-ins. I've tried to enable the still image plug-in several times, but notice that it doesn't stay "enabled" and I see the Quicktime "Q" icon where there should be a still image on certain Web sites.
I'm sure there's a simple fix to my "dumb" problem.

Repair permissions & restart.
Open up the QT MIME Settings & click on the Images arrow so that it points down.
Make sure there are check marks in everything under Images except for PDF Image.
Click the OK button.

Problem using still images

I am making a movie out of pictures that incorporates tons of pictures into a "flip book" effect where they go by really fast and things suddenly move across the screen.
My Problem: I imported all my photos in and imovie is using a "zoom" effect on every single photo and obviously that is not good because it doesn't show the entire picture? I have no effects on any of the photos and have clicked on every tool bar and can't figure it out.

The zoom effect is known as the Ken Burns effect. That is the default setting in iMovie for photos that are added to your project. You can change this in iMovie's menu - go to File>Project Properties. In the panel that opens, for Initial Photo Placement select Fit in Frame (the other choices are Ken Burns and Crop).
As you already have the photos in your project, you will need to manually change the setting from within the project. In iMovie's menu go to Edit>Select>Photos - all photos in the project will now be highlighted with a yellow border. On one of the photos, click the gear icon and select "Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation". In the Viewer you will see 3 items in the upper left corner, named Fit, Crop and Ken Burns - select Fit then click on the Done button (important!). Now all your photos will remain stationary, with no zooming.
In addition to clicking the gear icon, you can also select Cropping, Ken Burns & Rotation by clicking on the Crop icon in the centre menu bar. It's the icon immediately to the right of the icon shaped like a microphone.
Whenever you start a new project, it's important that you change the settings for Initial Photo Placement (in File>Project Properties) to Fit in Frame, otherwise all photos added to your project will have the Ken Burns effect applied to them - unless of course you want that effect.
NOTE: These instructions are for iMovie '11 but, to the best of my recollection, they apply equally to iMovie '09.

Still images snap into focus

I'm using a number of still images in my project. Upon export to QuickTime, the images look fuzzy until they've been on screen for a few seconds, at which point they snap into perfect focus.
Searching the forums, I couldn't find an answer, though I did find a number of questions about still images. So before you suggest that I've created the images at too high a resolution...
I've created the stills at approximately the correct size to import them without problems. I still haven't quite figured out the right dimensions (I don't know why this is so hard), but I'm close -- these are definitely not too large. I have scaled them a little within FCP, but again, I don't think that's the problem because the image does sharpen into perfect focus eventually -- if the image is on screen long enough.
I've also exported using many different codecs (including none), so that doesn't appear to be the issue either.
I've had this exact problem using iMovie -- I was hoping it would go away when I moved up to FCP.
Anyone else experience this and discover the solution?

Please detail your workflow...
-Exactly what versions of FCP/QT
-How are you creating/acquiring your stills...what program did they come from, how were they created/exported?
-What are the specs for the stills...file type, image size...etc.
Is there ANY chance you've somehow applied some type of filter to the files.
Very strange sounding behavior (which I've not seen either), but with some detailed info, someone here should be able to figure it out.

Getting poor still image quality in SD project on CS4

hey guys. sorry if you heard this one, but i havent seen anything addressing this.
i am using CS4 to edit a Standard def project and i am running into a problem with still images being choppy and distorted.
I tried all options to produce a better quality, but i get poor quality in the timeline monitor even after i render preview. the ouput
when i export is equally bad.
what i did find out was that if i switched projects in favor of an HD 720 the images are crisp on import and look good.
am i missing something. i assumed the images looked bad because they werent rendered and since i didnt need to render to edit i didnt want to lose the time, so now i'm stuck with those images, or i have to scrap the project and start again in hd and i prefer not to. i would have done it in hd, but the footage i was given was SD. anyways i would appreciate some help. thanks!
btw i've tried to export in both MS DV and WMV
i have tried importing psd png and jpg i have used all these in the past in pro2 with no problem

Menu still images "flicker" ever so slightly

Hi,
I have a question about still images used on my main menu after building with DVD SP.
For my main menu, I am using three different photographs. After I build the DVD and mount it in DVD player, parts of the image "flicker" or "wiggle" a little bit- I don't really know a better way to describe it.
I have tried to get rid of this using a lot of different methods, all involving Photoshop. I have used TIFs, JPGs; 300 and 72 ppi images; different sizes, etc., but to no avail. The wiggling usually involves a small part of the image, and it is not really terrible, but it is kind of annoying. Regardless of the technique I use to make and save the images in Photoshop, it always seems like it's the same part of the image that behaves this way.
Does anybody know what is happening here, and if so, is there a way that I can get rid of it?

Increase still image cache when working only with images?

I've been having hundreds of out of memory issues when working on a still image project. Thought it was solved but it hasnt.
If im working totally with still images (Jpegs, Tiffs and PSD's) should I increase the Still Image cache from its default amount? I have scoured the internet trying to find out what the Still Image Cache is but cant find an explanation anywhere.
I increased it this morning and all is well so far.....
Might this solve my problem.

The Still image cache is the amount of RAM assigned to the playback of the stills. That's what that slider adds... it should help to make it larger when you are working with a lot of stills. They are cached to RAM instead of being read from disk...
From the manual:
Still Cache: This specifies the amount of RAM used to hold still images for real-time playback. The still cache that is allocated is a percentage of the excess RAM allocated to Final Cut Pro, so adjusting the Application slider also adjusts the amount of RAM available to the still cache. The more RAM allocated to the still cache, the more still frames can be played back in real time in the currently selected sequence. If another sequence is opened, the contents of the still cache are replaced with stills from the new sequence. If there is no excess RAM available, this slider is dimmed.

Error when dragging and dropping still image into imovie

I am trying to place some still images into iMovie but when doing so I get the following error message :
"Import Problem
The still image file "file name" couldn't be copied as a JPEG image. The clip has been imported, but you won't be able to apply Ken Burns effects to it."
I really want to be able to apply the ken Burns effect. Can someone help with a fix to get around this problem.

Still image disappears from menu background on burning to DVD

I’ve just completed a project in Adobe Premiere Elements 9 in which I’ve personalized the menu background with a still image (trying two different disc menu templates - sport swimming and one under memories - can't remember the name of that one). With both these templates the still image shows up perfectly on my computer screen while I'm in the project but when I burn the project to DVD the still image doesn't appear on playback of the DVD. I have done other projects in PE9 with no problems with still images in existing disc menu templates - travel ship template and the template that comes as standard with PE9 before adding additional templates). I would prefer not to use either of these templates for my current project.
I see previous treads have commented on changing the size of the image...this doesn't seem to make a difference for me and the other suggestion is to somehow change the name of the file for the templates to get around this problem but i'm not understanding this. I still don't understand why some templates work and others don't. Does anyone have a simple to understand solution to this?
Or does anyone have a list of the disc menu templates that work with personalizing?

There does seem to be a bug that affects some menu templates.
Try the Generic template under the General tab.
There are also a number of menu templates available at Premiere Elements support site http://Muvipix.com that will work with no problem and can be easily customized.
