Welcome to the forum!
Did you make a set of recovery disks before you changed the partitions?

  • About Vista Recovery disc

okay whew finally i bought SL400, but unfortunately my cousin mess with it. The problem is I dont have vista recovery disc to recover the said OS, is there any chances that i could get the recovery discs for free(here in australia) since i'm still covered with warranty...If not XP is fine with me I'll just use the supplied XP downgrade discs...

The SL series use one key recovery, are you saying that your one key recovery system is corrupt?? You should just use the XP discs, since i doubt that Lenovo will provide you the discs for free as a result of human errors.

  • A problem about incomplete recovery

    All,
I'm a freshman for oracle knowledge and skill. I'm simulating the incomplete recovery for database. Here are my scenarios and steps:
    1. In database "db1", there is a table named "tb1" has 2 records, the whole database running on archive log mode and has 3 redo log groups(each group contains one member) ---- status "A"
    2. Make a cold backup for all datafiles, controlfiles and redo logs;
    3. startup database again, and insert 3 records into "tb1", then switch log file at least 3 times. Get the frist change number form latest archived log. ---- status "B"
    4. after the 3rd step over, drop a tablespace named "indx" and do a switching log file operation again.
    5. shutdow database immediate and restore all the backuped datafile and controlfiles, not including the redo logs and startup database with mount option.
    6. run recover command to execute the incomplete recovery to database.
whatever using "recover until time '<almost close the drop operating time>" or "recover until change number", I only got the status "A" after open the database, not status "B". But as my understanding and some reference from books, it should return to status "B" which includes the newer 3 records.
Now, I adhere some alert logs at below (the number 54878 is the latest change number in archived log files before dropping that tablespace)
alter database recover until change 54878
    Tue Jul 03 17:30:34 2007
    Media Recovery Start
    Media Recovery Not Required
Completed: alter database recover until change 54878
    Tue Jul 03 17:31:35 2007
    alter database open resetlogs
    Tue Jul 03 17:31:35 2007
RESETLOGS after complete recovery through change 54742
why the recovery use change number 54742 but not 54878 I expected. Did I go the correct steps for this incomplete recovery. Does anyone can give me some piece of advice to resolve this problem

Are you using 'recover using backup controlfile'...???????????
If not, it will take the restored controlfiles as the latest copy and will only recover up to the SCN in there.
Using the above, Oracle will simply ignore the SCN in the controlfile, since it knows its an old controlfile and should recover beyond the restored controfile..

  • Windows Vista Recovery.

My company has HP Pavilion a6540d Home PC. It was bought 2 years ago. It has a built in operating system which is Windows Vista. We planned to upgrade it into Windows 7 just this week. I was about to restore the windows to its factory settings first before upgrading it. When I turned on the CPU,  it hanged up so I decided to force shut down. Then restarted it again, it didn't hang up until it was in recovery process already, again I forced shut down the computer. Made the machine rest for more that 10 hours. I tried to restore it again to its factory setting (hoping that it wouldn't hang). Fortunately, it the process finished successfully. But when I restart the computer after the restoration an error message appeared "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed to install Windows. Click OK to retart the computer and to restart the installation." Then it restarted - error message appeared again - restarted - error message appeared again and looped all over. I would like to know how can I solve this error. I tried to hit F8 while the system boots and repair the computer but it gives me error "Error 0x400110020000100A". What should I do about this error? I'm trying to get the repair disc of Windows Vista so I can repair it but I didn't keep any. Can I just download a repair disc for Windows Vista since I can't access my computer before start up? HP don't have a separate recovery disc or a OS (Windows Vista) installer. Kindly help me. Thank you!

    Hi,
If you have the facility in the bios to run a check on the Hard Drive, I would do this first as the error you mention would indicate a problem with the HDD itself.
If the HDD test passes, you could try the following.
This process will allow you to make a Vista Repair Disc. This is not an installation disc but will allow you to use the Vista Recovery Console that is available on retail versions of Vista.
Download the file on the link below.  Make sure you download the correct version.
    Vista 32 bit
    Vista 64 bit
This is a zipped file.  If you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip, when installed, right click the zipped folder, select Extract Files and then click Ok.  You should now see another folder containing the ISO file.
You will need software to burn the ISO to a CD.  If you don't have this type on software installed, download and install ImgBurn and use this to burn the ISO to a CD.
Once you have created the Vista Repair Disc, follow the guide on the link below to see if this will repair your installation.

  • Problem with Rescue & Recovery

    Hi!
I have a X61 running on Vista Business. I am facing 2 problems with Rescue & Recovery:
    1. RR tries to run a backup on every bootup even when I schedule it to run Monthly or Never. The program appears not to register the changes to the backup schedule. I upgraded to the latest version of RR, but it didn't help. (Note: Another user posted about the same problem (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Utilities&thread.id=604) some months back, but his problem hasn't been solved.)
    2. Whenever RR tries to perform a backup, I get this error message: "R2R.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close." I downloaded the patch KB917422 but got the following message when I ran the installation pgm: "Could not find any previously installed compliant products on the machine for installing the product."
    Will greatly appreciate any advice!

First you should try to fix the bad sectors, you can use the following command:
    chkdsk c: /f /r

My apologies about not explaining further about disabling SPDIF passthrough. See the steps below to enable DDL encoding.
***Before proceeding please make sure that you've purchased, installed and activated the DDL pack***
. Open Creative Audio Console, go to the Decoder tab to disable driver level encoding and enable SPDIF passthrough (this is done by selecting SPDIF passthrough or any similar option that enable the use of an external decoder) instead of using the built-in decoders.
    2. Open up your playback devices window (right click on the speaker icon on the taskbar and select playback devices) and set analog speakers (not SPDIF) as your default device. This is VERY IMPORTANT step, or else you get the "the device is busy" error when enbaling DDL encoding.
    3. In the Audio Console, select the Encoder tab and enable DLL encoding.
    Note:
When DDL encoding is enabled, it makes exclusi've use of your SPDIF connection so, no passthrough is possible. The default output format when using DDL encoding is 48KHz/6 bits. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) when DLL encoding is enabled, then please change their output device to analog speakers instead of SPDIF.
To use back SPDIF passthrough (when playing back media with a pre-encoded audio source), open up Audio Console and disable DDL encoding and in the Playback Devices window change the default device to SPDIF. If you make use of any AC3 audio filters (such as ac3filter/others included in codec packs/media player softwares) then please change their output device back to SPDIF. You may also wish to change back your output format to 92KHz/24 bits (right click on SPDIF and select properties -> Advanced tab).

  • Having problem to do "Recovery HD" on Mac Pro?

    Hi,
I had Lion 10.7.3 installed on my Mac Pro with four internal harddisks connected to an Apple RAID card. I was trying to re-install Lion by using Lion's "Recovery HD" feature.  So I shutdown my Mac Pro and reboot by pressing "Command+R" keys to start up the "Recovery HD".  I then selected "Reinstall Mac OS X" from the first startup screen.  After confirming the License agreement, I was presented with "Selecting the disk" for installing OS X Lion.  This is where I had the problem.
My Mac Pro has four internal harddisks connected to an Apple RAID card.  The first disk (1TB) was dedicated as boot disk with OS 10.7.3 installed along with the Recovery HD partition.  The other three disks (2TBx3) were setup as one Volume RAID for data only.
And for the Lion re-install on the Select disk screen, it only showed two choices:
         1)  Recovery HD (which is grayed and cannot be selected),
         2)  DATA-01 (which is the 3 disks RAID for data only).
There was no boot disk to select from.  I don't know what happened why the boot disk was not there.  So I returned to the first screen and use Disk Utility to examine all the disks in my Mac Pro.  It showed both the boot disk and the DATA-01 (RAID volume) were there.  But as soon as I went back to re-install Lion, it only allowed me to select my RAID volume.  The boot disk with the original Lion installed was just not there.
Any help what might have happened?  Thanks.

I don't do RAID stuff, so all I can do is point you to Recovery and About Lion Recovery. Also, see the Related Articles links in the second doc. Maybe there;s something there that'll help. Otherwise, contact Apple's Express Lane.

  • HP Pavilion dv6 Vista Recovery - Physical memory dump w/ error code 0x000000F4 (and others)

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first time posting in the forums so I hope that I have chosen the appropriate area and will do my best to be brief but informative.
    Computer: HP Pavilion dv6000
    Operating System: Windows Vista.
For the past 6-8 months it has been unable to perform Windows Update citing that the most likely reason was a virus. I have tried numerous trouble shooting options when it was recommended that I perform a chkdsk. After initiating a chkdsk in Command Prompt, my computer restarted and had a black screen with no cursor. After watching this for 2 hours and realizing that none of the usual chkdsk progress or text was coming up I made the decision to force shut down.
When I rebooted, I was told to enter system recovery which I did and completed a system recovery from the hard drive. After the system recovery finished and the laptop restarted, I experience a Blue Screen of Death due to a physical memory dump. The error codes are STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x0000000000000003, 0xFFFFFA8006671040, 0xFFFFFA8006671278, 0xFFFFF80001D01DA0).
I am not able to boot in safe mode. In the start up repair, I am able to enter command prompt from which I started chkdsk again. Both chkdsk f/ and chkdsk r/ passed with no errors. Additionally, the computer passed both UEFI Hard Drive and Memory tests. I have system recovery CDs for the computer but they fail at 78% completion.
Please let me know if you have any questions or require anymore information. I would appreciate any and all advice!

  • Problem about space management of archived log files

    Dear friends,
I have a problem about space management of archived log files.
my database is Oracle 10g release 1 running in archivelog mode. I use OEM(web based) to config all the backup and recovery settings.
I config "Flash Recovery Area" to do backup and recovery automatically. my daily backup schedule is every night at 2:00am. and my backup setting is "disk settings"--"compressed backup set". the following is the RMAN script:
    Daily Script:
    run {
    allocate channel oem_disk_backup device type disk;
    recover copy of database with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0';
    backup incremental level 1 cumulative copies=1 for recover of copy with tag 'ORA$OEM_LEVEL_0' database;
the retention policy is the second choice, that is "Retain backups that are necessary for a recovery to any time within the specified number of days (point-in-time recovery)". the recovery window is 1 day.
I assign enough space for flash recovery area. my database size is about 2G. I assign 20G as flash recovery area.
now here is the problem, through oracle online manual, it said oracle can manage the flash recovery area automatically, that is, when the space is full, it can delete the obsolete archived log files. but in fact, it never works! whenever the space is full, the database will hang up! besides, the status of archived log files is very strange, for example, it can change "obsolete" stauts from "yes" to "no", and then from "no" to "yes". I really have no idea about this! even though I know oracle usually keep archived files for some longer days than retention policy, but I really don't know why the obsolete status can change automatically. although I can write a schedule job to delete obsolete archived files every day, but I just want to know the reason. my goal is to backup all the files on disk and let oracle automatically manage them.
also, there is another problem about archive mode. I have two oracle 10g databases(release one), the size of db1 is more than 20G, the size of db2 is about 2G. both of them have the same backup and recovery policy, except I assign more flash recovery area for db1. both of them are on archive mode. both of nearly nobody access except for the schedule backup job and sometime I will admin through oem. the strange thing is that the number of archived log files of smaller database, db2, are much bigger than ones of bigger database. also the same situation for the size of the flashback logs for point-in-time recovery. (I enable flashback logging for fast database point-in-time recovery, the flashback retention time is 24 hours.) I found the memory utility of smaller database is higher than bigger database. nearly all the time the smaller database's memory utility keeps more than 99%. while the bigger one's memory utility keeps about 97%. (I enable "Automatic Shared Memory Management" on both databases.) but both database's cup and queue are very low. I'm nearly sure no one hack the databases. so I really have no idea why the same backup and recovery policy will result so different result, especially the smaller one produces more redo logs than bigger one. does there anyone happen to know the reason or how should I do to check the reason?
by the way, I found web based OEM can't reflect the correct database status when the database shutdown abnormally. for example, if the database hang up because of out of flash recovery area, after I assign more flash recovery area space and then restart the database, the OEM usually can't reflect the correct database status. I must restart OEM manually to correctly reflect the current database status. does there anyone know in what situation I should restart OEM to reflect the correct database status?
sorry for the long message, I just want to describe in details to easy diagnosis.
any hint will be greatly appreciated!
    Sammy

thank you very much, in fact, my site's oracle never works about managing archive files automatically although I have tried all my best. at last, I made a job running daily to check the archive files and delete them.
    thanks again.

tx1312AU Windows Vista Recovery partition lost after HD crash, how to get it back or should I try Win XP? (I hate Vista already...)

No, the recovery disks don't rely on anything on the hard drive.  From what you say, either you are not booting from the optical drive, or the disks indeed are faulty.
The last I knew, replacement disks were $25.  See the sticky at the top of the General Discussion topic for details.
There have been a lot of reports of problems with recovery disks, so I'm a bit surprised that Toshiba won't ship you replacements at no charge.  Might be worth another try, and an attempt to get to the next tech level.

  • Sync problem with Vista

Got the 8gb 3g a few weeks ago from T Mobile and got it unlocked officially to transfer to Vodafone contract. Sync set up on Vista installed and ran perfectly for a few weeks but suddenly developed many problems about ten days ago.
On connection Pop up: "Sync server has stopped working. A problem caused etc"
    followed by -
"iTtunes cannot sync information with the iphone because syncing has been disabled"
    followed by -
"iTunes was unable to load provider data from Sync Server. Reconnect or try again later."
It then says its syncing but doesn't.
On the info tab on iTunes the boxes for the Calendar, Contacts and Notes have now become unticked. I try to tick the boxes for all three but Calendar cannot be ticked and whilst Contacts and Notes can be ticked they immediately become unticked.
Another problem has developed over the last few days, probably unrelated, in that the screen suddenly goes white and then coloured horizontal lines flash on the screen and then it dies. Leaving it for a few minutes and restarting seems to clear it but I am now concerned that I am going to lose all the data which has not been backed up. Can anyone help me please?

Windows + iPhone seem not to completely work friendly with each other with contact, agenda and notes. I have been some problems with that too, i just ignore the fact that i can sync those things with my Windows because it's the only thing i don't understand and i got problems with.
Apple does NOT allow certificates on unlocked iPhones. Means you cannot receive push notifications nor you are allowed to have contact with the Apple iPhone servers. It's just the fact that you unlocked your iPhone, that's all.
Going back to AT&T, T-mobile or any other legal distributer of an iPhone and the problem will be solved..

  • Vista recovery partition

After clean installing Windows 7 on my Pavilion dv5 - Vista, I saved the "Windows.old" folder and the
"Vista recovery partition" on to an external harddrive, before deleting both on my laptop.

How can I create recovery disks using the recovery partition / files on my external hard drive??
I do hope that there is a way to do this....
    Any help would be appreciated!!;-)

I have iphone5s and there is some problem about my iphone. I turn off the phone and then I turn on. After I turned on, It showed the page of apple signal and then the page of loading. It used long time to show the loading page. Then it was back to page of apple and then loading page again many times. What happen with it? And what should I do?

Did you already try to reset the phone again by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again?
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device, explained here:
How to back up your data and set up as a new device
You may have to connect in recovery mode, if the phone is not recognized in iTunes:

    at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:749)
    at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:820)
    at JHelloWorld.<clinit>(JHelloWorld.java:7)
    Tried another measure:
    i) export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=.:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    ii)java -cp . JHelloWorld
The same error came out as above.
I really don't know what is wrong with it.
Would you like to help me as soon as possible?
    Thanks.
