  • Problem accessing Excel

    Hello!
I'm doing my first steps into Xcelsius world.
But every time I try to import my excel sheets ... I get this error message "Problem accessing Excel : Exiting"  and xcelsius closes.
I really don't understand what is wrong. I've read many other messages but I haven't found a solution yet.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Following information might be helpful for resolving the issue.
This problem has to do with a conflict with the automation libraries that Xcelsius uses to interact with MS Excel. All the re-installation attempts have failed because there is likely a 3rd party process or application that is affecting these automation libraries and preventing Xcelsius from communicating with Excel.
This is usually the result of having another application installed that also interacts with Excel. This can also come from a 3rd party Office add-in that integrates with Excel.
Check your Excel add-ins and see if anything is listed there. If you see something listed that does not seem to be a default Excel add-in. Youu2019ll need to uninstall it to prevent it from conflicting with Xcelsius. Let me know your results.

  • "Problem accessing excel" Error

    Hi All,
I have just downloaded the trial version for Xcelsius Engage 2008. Whenver I try to launch it, I am getting an error "Problem accessing excel: exiting". I am using windows XP and excel 2007. I have checked in the windows task manager and there is no rogue Excel.exe task running in the background. Can someone please let me know what I need to do. I am very new to BO, so I have no idea on how it works.
    Thanks very much,
    Pratik

Unfortunately we had this issue too and had to reinstall both Xcelsius Engage 2008 and Microsoft Excel 2007.
We suspected something to do with the registry keys, but it works fine now.
Sorry for the all the work but I hope it works.

  • Error accessing Excel  - Exiting

    Hai,
I get this error most often, "Error accessing Excel - Exiting" , and then I manually kill the EXCEL.exe process in the taskbar, I want to permanently get rid of this problem, is there a setting in MS Excel or the Xcelsius 2008 that I can make so the Excel closes down first and then the Xcelsius is shut down manually.
    al times daily.
This error really takes up lot of developer's time by closing and reopening the Xcelsius sever
    Thank you in advance.
    Vijay.

    I feel your pain.
Assuming this involves the latest patch levels for Xcelsius and MS Office (includes all respective Fix Packs and Service Packs for both Xcelsius and MSO), it may be possible to get around the error by doing the following:
    1. Close Xcelsius and all MS Office applications completely (saving whatever work you need to save)
    2. Open the Task Manager and kill all MS Office and Xcelsius related processes that are running, if any
    3. Launch MS Excel
    4. Excel may ask you which spreadsheet you want to recover.  Humor it and either perform a recovery or just opt to skip recovery, until a spreadsheet is opened normally and the XLS recovery sidebar is gone.
    5. Close Excel and check again to ensure that no MS Office related or Xcelsius processes are still running
    6. Launch Xcelsius
If this doesn't work, try rebooting and launching Xcelsius before running MS Office.
Keep in mind that any time you try to use Xcelsius with any MS Office app running (yes, even Outlook sometimes) you may be playing with fire so be sure to save and back up your XLF projects frequently.  This has been my experience, in any case.
Again, this is just what I have personally experienced and observed as a fellow end user.

  • "Problem Accessing Excel: Exiing"

I am currently using the trial version of Xcelsius Present. My goal is to present a business case to my management team for purchasing the product. however I am getting an error stating that There is a problem accessing Excel. Then the application shuts down. Any thoughts as to what the isue is and how to resolve it? I only have 22 days left on my trail version. I would like to get something out together well within that timeframe..
    Any feedback is apprecaited...
    Thank you.

    Hi David.
1.) Go to the Task Manager and kill the excel process.
    2.) Restart Xcelsius.
Xcelsius integrates and excel instance. Sometimes the excel instance is not closed properly, so you have to kill the instance manually.
    Kind Regards

  • Xcelsius displays Problem accessing excel: closing message

    Hi expert,
I installed Xcelsius 2008 Engage. After that I tried to execute the program. A "Problem accessing excel: closing" message is displayed and after looking similar issues in SDN, and SAP notes... I tried following actions, as suggested::
    Restart computer
To check that no MS Offices processes are being executed
    No outlook is running
I uninstalled some Office 2007 extra packages
    I installed Xcelsius SP1 Fix packs 1, 2 and 3.
After fix packs installation, the error message is still appearing, but now a new message also appears: "Failed to set localized string".
Does anyone have an idea about what I have to do to solve this annoying problem? I can not use Xcelsius!
There is one thing I have to check: that Excel doesn't have installed add-ins. Does anyone know if SAP Business Explorer tools, in special Excel Analyzer, can be considered as an Excel add-in? can this SAP product interfere in Xcelsius excecution, causing the message I get?
    Thank you very much!

    Bobby,
I have none of your mentioned software, except .xla files.
These are .xla files, from SAP GUI I have installed and from SAP Business Explorer. Can theses .xla files interfere in Xcelsius? Should I uninstall this software which is by now my Daily working tools?

  • 2008 Installed on Vista "Problem accessing Excel: Exitiing"

I installed Xcelsius 2008 onto my new laptop that has Vista on it and it worked fine until I loaded the SP1 Hot Fix 1.
Now when I open the application I get an error stating "Problem accessing Excel: Exitiing"  then the app just closes.
    Please help.
    Thank you

The UAC setting was the main issue I believe.  I was getting many other issues also so I uninstalled and reinstalled everything very methodically with great results.

  • Accessing excel documents fom KM

    Hi all
I have a problem accessing excel documents in Hebrew from the KM.
If the document's name length is more then 23 characters (in Hebrew),I get a "This page cannot be displayed" error.
It happens only if I work with Excel 2002 (XP) version.
Excel 2003 works fine, but I cannot upgrade my ~1500 workstations now.
Last year we had almost the same problem - like this:
    <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?forumID=42&threadID=45589&messageID=459760#459760">https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?forumID=42&threadID=45589&messageID=459760#459760</a>
The problem was solved by Microsoft fix :
    KB Article Number(s): 918692
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Alexander

    Hi Alexander,
you could use the GUID instead of the displayname, it is unique, fixed in length and does not depend on language settings.
I guess you will have to write a custom property handler for that, but maybe this can be done through configuration only ...
That could be a workaround for your problem ...

  • Accessing excel from java code

    Hello
our system uses reportNet to generate reports. When reports are generated in CSV format we have a problem:
Report consists of people (can be more than one) so under name column we have same name in more than one row. BUT if more than one name is suppose to be in the CSV report then the header (column names row) is again printed.
so for example if i requested rpeort for two names A and B (reportNet uses same template which is executed twice) then report will look like this
    Name (header - column name)
    A
    A
    A
    A
    A
    Name (header - column name)
    B
    B
    B
    B
I want to be able to remove the second header that comes before B starts.
so i was thinking i would be able to access this excel sheet from java. and keep record of every row. If the row changes from A to B...i delete the previous row (which would end up being the second header).
Can this be done thru java. I havnt before accessed excel sheets from java so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, well CSV is not currently an Excel file, it is a Comma Separated Values
file which can be read through Excel.
Now, if you wish to remove the header, I would purpose that you develop an
application that reads the CSV file, as it is mere text, and that it also reads
another file (lets call it confirguration.txt) in which you determine the pattern
you want to remove, then you just read your report and if a string line
matches the pattern you defined in the configuration.txt file, then you simply
    erase it.
And if you keep interested in reading real Excel files (xls), I would
recommend you use POI-HSSF API from Apache.org
    http://jakarta.apache.org/poi/hssf/index.html
    Hope this helps, cya around.

  • Accessing Excel 2007-file from BO Explorer App

    Hello all,
I have a problem when trying to access excel 2007-files in an InfoSpace ( XI 3.1 SP2) from the iPad with the BO Explorer App.
Accessing this file from the Browser is no problem and accessing the same file saved as excel 2003 is also no problem from the IPad.
Anybody an idea what could be the problem? I have to save some files with excel 2007 because number of rows.
    Thanks in advance!
    Regards,
    Christian
Additional hint: Always the following error message appears:
It is not possible to retrieve the facets within the Explore tab.
org.xml.sax.SAXParseException:Character reference "&#26" is an invalid XML character.
    Any idea? Thanks!

I do now see that you are correct: there is a difference between Excel 2007 and Excel 2010. Your particular usage is somewhat unusual and there probably isn't anything you can do, except to recognise that you are a beneficiary
of it (although others may be less fortunate).
The type of protection that you are applying protects the workbook against certain types of change; it does not prevent people opening it, and they do not need a password to open it, so, in a sense, it does not need to be
encrypted. In Excel 2007 (and Excel 2003 before it), the workbook was, nonetheless, encrypted, and in Excel 2010 it isn't.
This change means that someone can remove the protection outside Excel (just by deleting that single line of XML), something that couldn't be done before so it is a loss of security.
I'm a Word person, rather than Excel, and I don't know all the details of the different types of 'protection' that can be applied to Workbooks and Sheets.
I have, however, not seen anything about this before and will ask some Excel friends if they know anything. Beyond that I don't think I can help any more.
    Enjoy,
    Tony

  • IDEFRAG FAULT: There was a hardware problem accessing your volume

There was a hardware problem accessing your volume (e.g. bad block or loss of power) and Idefrag cannot continue. The File that Idefrag was working on was: /Previous/Library/Logs/DirectoryService/DirectoryService.server.log -
    What can i do?
Now i cant finish defragmenting. Only the compact defrag level > cuz this scan level only restore the empty blocks. All the other levels it stops defragging.
    Please help

iDefrag may well have damaged your system. No such third party utility is required, or even adviseable, on OS X which does such things by itself.
I would recommend a reinstall from your recovery partition.
    Defragmentation in OS X:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1375  which states:
You probably won't need to optimize at all if you use Mac OS X. Here's why:
Hard disk capacity is generally much greater now than a few years ago. With more free space available, the file system doesn't need to fill up every "nook and cranny." Mac OS Extended formatting (HFS Plus) avoids reusing space from deleted files as much as possible, to avoid prematurely filling small areas of recently-freed space.
Mac OS X 10.2 and later includes delayed allocation for Mac OS X Extended-formatted volumes. This allows a number of small allocations to be combined into a single large allocation in one area of the disk.
Fragmentation was often caused by continually appending data to existing files, especially with resource forks. With faster hard drives and better caching, as well as the new application packaging format, many applications simply rewrite the entire file each time. Mac OS X 10.3 onwards can also automatically defragment such slow-growing files. This process is sometimes known as "Hot-File-Adaptive-Clustering."
Aggressive read-ahead and write-behind caching means that minor fragmentation has less effect on perceived system performance.
Whilst 'defragging' OS X is rarely necessary, Rod Hagen has produced this excellent analysis of the situation which is worth reading:
Most users, as long as they leave plenty of free space available , and don't work regularly in situations where very large files are written and rewritten, are unlikely to notice the effects of fragmentation on either their files or on the drives free space much.
As the drive fills the situations becomes progressively more significant, however.
Some people will tell you that "OSX defrags your files anyway". This is only partly true. It defrags files that are less than 20 MB in size. It doesn't defrag larger files and it doesn't defrag the free space on the drive. In fact the method it uses to defrag the smaller files actually increases the extent of free space fragmentation. Eventually, in fact, once the largest free space fragments are down to less than 20 MB (not uncommon on a drive that has , say only 10% free space left) it begins to give up trying to defrag altogether. Despite this, the system copes very well without defragging as long as you have plenty of room.
Again, this doesn't matter much when the drive is half empty or better, but it does when it gets fullish, and it does especially when it gets fullish if you are regularly dealing with large files , like video or serious audio stuff.
If you look through this discussion board you will see quite a few complaints from people who find that their drive gets "slow". Often you will see that say that "still have 10 or 20 gigs free" or the like. On modern large drives by this stage they are usually in fact down to the point where the internal defragmentation routines can no longer operate , where their drives are working like navvies to keep up with finding space for any larger files, together with room for "scratch files", virtual memory, directories etc etc etc. Such users are operating in a zone where they put a lot more stress on their drives as a result, often start complaining of increased "heat", etc etc. Most obviously, though, the computer slows down to a speed not much better than that of molasses. Eventually the directories and other related files may collapse altogether and they find themselves with a next to unrecoverable disk problems.
By this time, of course, defragging itself has already become just about impossible. The amount of work required to shift the data into contiguous blocks is immense, puts additional stress on the drive, takes forever, etc etc. The extent of fragmentation of free space at this stage can be simply staggering, and any large files you subsequently write are likely to be divided into many , many tens of thousands of fragments scattered across the drive. Not only this, but things like the "extents files", which record where all the bits are located, will begin to grow astronomically as a result, putting even more pressure on your already stressed drive, and increasing the risk of major failures.
Ultimately this adds up to a situation where you can identify maybe three "phases" of mac life when it comes to the need for defragmentation.
In the "first phase" (with your drive less than half full), it doesn't matter much at all - probably not enough to even make it worth doing.
In the "second phase" (between , say 50% free space and 20% free space remaining) it becomes progressively more useful, but , depending on the use you put your computer to you won't see much difference at the higher levels of free space unless you are serious video buff who needs to keep their drives operating as efficiently and fast as possible - chances are they will be using fast external drives over FW800 or eSata to compliment their internal HD anyway.
At the lower end though (when boot drives get down around the 20% mark on , say, a 250 or 500 Gig drive) I certainly begin to see an impact on performance and stability when working with large image files, mapping software, and the like, especially those which rely on the use of their own "scratch" files, and especially in situations where I am using multiple applications simultaneously, if I haven't defragmented the drive for a while. For me, defragmenting (I use iDefrag too - it is the only third party app I trust for this after seeing people with problems using TechToolPro and Drive Genius for such things) gives a substantial performance boost in this sort of situation and improves operational stability. I usually try to get in first these days and defrag more regularly (about once a month) when the drive is down to 30% free space or lower.
Between 20% and 10% free space is a bit of a "doubtful region". Most people will still be able to defrag successfully in this sort of area, though the time taken and the risks associated increase as the free space declines. My own advice to people in this sort of area is that they start choosing their new , bigger HD, because they obviously are going to need one very soon, and try to "clear the decks" so that they maintain that 20% free buffer until they do. Defragging regularly (perhaps even once a fortnight) will actually benefit them substantially during this "phase", but maybe doing so will lull them into a false sense of security and keep them from seriously recognising that they need to be moving to a bigger HD!
Once they are down to that last ten per cent of free space, though, they are treading on glass. Free space fragmentation at least will already be a serious issue on their computers but if they try to defrag with a utility without first making substantially more space available then they may find it runs into problems or is so slow that they give up half way through and do the damage themselves, especially if they are using one of the less "forgiving" utilities!
In this case I think the best way to proceed is to clone the internal drive to a larger external with SuperDuper, replace the internal drive with a larger one and then clone back to it. No-one down to the last ten percent of their drive really has enough room to move. Defragging it will certainly speed it up, and may even save them from major problems briefly, but we all know that before too long they are going to be in the same situation again. Better to deal with the matter properly and replace the drive with something more akin to their real needs once this point is reached. Heck, big HDs are as cheap as chips these days! It is mad to struggle on with sluggish performance, instability, and the possible risk of losing the lot, in such a situation.
