Problem adding an FLV video to an actionscript 3.0 file

Hi i'm new to Flash and I’m trying to add a 20 second long FLV video to an action script 3.0 file in order to place an animation over this imported video. The video is my dog running around and I want to animate a sprite in a layer over the top of this to make it look as if the sprite is chasing my dog. Is this actually possible? I’ve tried importing the video into the file but the video does not play it just shows one screen capture from the video when previewed for the entire time it is playing and when I try preview the video in a window of its own it cannot load it, it just freezes when loading (the program does not crash by the loading bar freezes).
Any thoughts on where I’m going wrong or what I could try or if this idea is even do-able using flash professional CS5.5 and my laptop has over the capabilities suggested by Adobe to run the software?
Thank you!

Probably is the format in which your video is encoded, attempts to convert to another format.
You can import the video to the time line, but the problem is the synchronization, that depends of the performance of the machine.
Maybe the trick is export a flash animation (swf) and use Adobe Premiere to synchronization the video with the animation in a upper layer.

  • Problem Using Flash FLV Video Via Dreamweaver CS3

    I have been unable to get my FLV video to play on my website.
    I seem to have two problems:
    1) I want the FLV file to be hosted in a different domain to
    the website itself (for bandwidth reasons) and it doesn't want to
    do that!
    2) I would prefer to use Flash skins rather than Dreamweaver
    skins as I want to offer a full-screen option but I cannot get them
    to work!
    If I host the FLV file on the website domain, the video plays
    ok. If I change the file location in the Properties of the movie to
    become the FLV located on the other domain (using full path
    http://<etc>flv) then nothing
    displays on that part of the page. Firebug tells me it has loaded
    the AC_RunActiveContent.js and FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf but it
    makes no mention of the skin file or the flv file itself ... it is
    as if it just simply has not bothered with it! I suspect I am
    missing something obvious but cannot find it. All help would be
    appreciated. By the way, I have loaded up a crossdomain.xml file to
    the root of the domain that hosts the flv file but that didn't seem
    to make any difference!
    The second challenge is that ideally I would like to use a
    Flash skin so that I can have a full-screen option and so that I
    can have the menu bar under the video itself. However, I can't even
    get that option to work when I host the whole lot on the normal
    webserver! I am suspecting that it might be something that might
    suddenly start working when I fix problem 1. However, if anybody
    has any links to a page that provides simple instructions about how
    to do this task I would greatly appreciate it!
    Many thanks for your help!

    1) Why not post your video to YouTube or Google Video and
    then embed the
    code they provide into your website. This way their servers
    carry the
    bandwidth for you and the scripted embed code will work on
    your site.
    2) If Video sharing isn't an option, and you need more
    bandwidth, you can
    get domain hosting for as little as $4.95 - 6.95/month at
    Bluehost,
    Lunarpages or Web Hosting Pad.

  • Problem adding Video to Captivate Slide

    Hi,
    I'm having a problem adding an FLV video file to Captivate. Basically, after I've published to a SWF file, the video doesn't appear on the slide at all. It's just blank.
    After researching a bit, I found that the FLV file MUST include *metadata*.
    However, I added medatada with VLC Media Player, and it still shows the same behavior. Must it include a certain *amount* of metadata? Is there a *type* of metadata without which the video will not show?
    Adobe's Help thread talks about something called the "Flash Video Kit" - is that a stand alone product or an extension of another product? Is it free? Are there any other free alternatives?
    I'm just very confused.
    Thank you!

    I ended up answering my own question. But just in case this helps anyone else, I'm going to post my solution.
    Essentially, I just re-created the video in MP4 format. Then I used MetaZ (for Mac) to write Meta Data to the video. Lastly, I imported the video as an object and when I published the video, Captivate transmuted it to the necessary FLV format.
    Now the video displays properly.

  • Do different recorded slide resolutions cause an imported FLV Video to Play incorrectly?

    I’ve been working on a project involving many captivate files with flv videos inserted into slides I made the slides in Photoshop, I had the same type of project last year with the same client and had similar problems with the flv videos just not running or not running correctly, sometimes cutting off early.  This time using Captivate 4 I’m having problems with the videos playing through fine but then stopping and not continuing onto the next slide.  To even further complicate this sometimes in preview the video will play and then advance to the next slide and then after publishing the files and playing them they stop advancing and you have to select the play button to continue the presentation.
    The setup for these video slides:
    Edit the video in avid and export to After Effects.
    Process the video in AE adding titles, keying, and exporting using render cue to FLV files
    Process and Import the Photoshop slide into Captivate
    Set the properties of the PS slide to; on slide enter; continue, on slide exit; advance to next slide.
    Import the flv video at 640x480, skin = none, auto play auto rewind, Options = rest of slide, pause slide till end of video.
    What I think I found and at least it is working again is, during the recording session with the various business managers while demonstrating their applications they would sometime resize their screens, so instead of recording at 1024x768 they would stop recording and change their screen resolution to 1032x774, to complicate this even further they were all operating their software applications using remote desktops.
    I finally imported the slides into Captivate that were recorded at 1032x774 and resized them to 1024x768 during import and kept my resolution the same throughout the problem was resolved and the project played fine so far. The biggest problem I had was with a slide that fell between two slie sizes even though Captivate resized the slides on import and I resized the slide for the project resolution the Video FLV movie slide would play and then stop. I hope I’m making sense with this and I apologize if I’m not.
    Is a recorded constant screen resolution critical when editing a captivate presentation and if so why? Is there a way to correct a slide problem in hypertext to force a slide to advance, and if so what program would accomplish this.  Thanks in advance.

  • FLV Video - Alpha Layer Not Working

    Hi I have a strange problem. I am trying to encode a AVI
    video into a FLV flash video which includes an alpha layer. These
    are the steps I have taken as follows:
    1. Created animation in photoshop, saved as PNG files.
    Imported files into Flash, and the alpha works great (but the size
    is too large, so I switched to embedded FLV video).
    2. Took PNG files and imported then in Premiere Pro 2 and
    exported the video with the 32-bit Cinepak Radius codec, with a
    million colors. (I don't know if its 32-bit, as it says it no where
    in the export options).
    3. Encode the AVI with Flash CS3 Video Encoder, using On2 VP6
    codec with Encode Alpha Channel enabled.
    Result, either the clip is completely black or the video
    doesn't have an alpha channel when imported into Flash. I am
    thinking the clips that are completely black are the AVIs that had
    an alpha channel.
    Below is the AVI clip, if anyone can tell me if it has an
    alpha channel by encoding it to a FLV video OR can offer any help,
    thank you.
    Animation
    Clip
    Paul B.
    PS. I have searched the internet for hours for related info
    or similar problems, but have not encountered a solution. I have
    even downloaded Sorenson Squeeze and have tried multiple
    codecs.

    You set your texture environment mode to GL_REPLACE. The implementation of this feature is to replace the primary color (set via ColorPointer or Color3f) with the sampled texture value, so your color will have no effect.
    Replace the texture env mode with GL_MODULATE, which will multiply the Texture Unit Input Color (==PrimaryColor for Texture Unit 1) with the sampled texture value.

  • Can you put Video Controls on an .flv video?

    I have an .flv file in my .fla file.  However, when I play the movie, it simply plays the movie along the timeline.  Is there a way to put video controls on this file?  Or do I need to use the videoPlayback option?
    If I do need to use the videoPlayback option, how do I make sure that the video always work, even if I move it to a different computer (because the references to the movie will change)?
    Thank you very much in advanced.

    Hi Ned,
    Thank you for your reply!
    I guess I mean that when I specify the path to my flv file and I export the swf file, the swf won't play the flv video if I move the swf file to another computer.  Does that make sense?
    Thank you for the answer though, I will use FLVPlayback!

  • Regarding click flv video and make it fullscreen/enlarge

    As title, i amd using AS2 currently and i have 3 flv video imported  in 1 sigle swf file, what i want to do is when i rollover the flv, it enlarge abit and when i click on it , it become fullscreen or further enlarge. after that i jz simply click agin and make it back to original size.
    Any hep is welcome.

    You need to make sure you set the HTML output options to allow fullscreen from the publish settings. Afterwards in AS2 it's no longer a fscommand to go fullscreen, it's Stage.displayState. To assign that functionality you assign a click event to the movie or a button or anything you want to trigger it. Here's the code:
    I'll call what you want to click "myButton". That can be a MovieClip, Button, video, etc.
    myButton.onPress = function(evt:Object) {
        Stage.displayState = Stage.displayState == "normal" ? "fullScreen" : "normal";
    Click that object and it will toggle fullscreen or normal size.

  • Adding controls to FLV video

    Hello
    I have a .flv file that I need to drop into a Flash file and
    export as a .swf. It needs controls (pause/play etc). I tried the
    tutorial in the help section, and it didn;t work. Does anyone out
    there know of a good tutorial for:
    - Creating a new Flash file
    - Adding my .flv
    - Adding controls funtionality
    - Exporting to a .swf for use on a web page
    Please keep in mind that I am a Flash novice.
    Thanks,
    -----------------S

    The help docs clearly explain how to do this using the media
    compnents - the fact that it din't work
    doesn't mean you won't be able to follow anyone else's
    tutorial. The devnet site is filled with very
    well written and specific flash video articles - just search
    - google is also your friend and search
    this forum - this has been asked/discussed several times.
    You want to search the help docs for the Media Display
    component.

    I've made a movie in iMovie. Now all of a sudden the sound that I added to my video is mute. I havn't changed anything and in my other iMovie-projects the sound is working fine. What is the problem? Help!

    Try double tapping the movie clip itself when inserted in the timeline and ensure that sound is on on the actual clip on the movie time line.

  • Inserting FLV videos that allow student to start and stop anywhere

    Hello,
    I am inserting flv videos that students need to be able to start and stop anywhere, and when the video reaches the end, the student clicks on the NEXT button to go to next slide.
    As long as the student lets the video play without any interruptions, the NEXT button appears at the end.
    THe problem I am having is that everything works except the NEXT button is not appearing at the end of the Video unless the NEXT button is visible for the whole time the video is on.
    If the NEXT button is visible during the whole time the video is showing, the student is able to skip the video without watching it.
    I need the students to view the whole video as part of the course.
    Is this possible?

    Your original post didn't mention that the students should be able to repeat a portion of the video again if they choose to do so. This of course complicates matters further as you would then need to show either one of the standard Captivate playbars or use a Playbar widget as you are doing now. However, this also opens up for the user being able to skip the video once again, so it's not the best solution.
    As I see it you have two options:
    1) Present the video without the playbar as I described in my first post. Add the next button at the end of the video. This will make sure that the video has been watched to the end before the user can continue to the next slide. Perhaps you could add a "Replay" button so that the user would be able to watch the entire video again simply by replaying the slide.You can create Start and Stop(Pause) buttons by inserting Smart Shapes or Regular buttons and assign an Advanced Action to Pause or Continue the project.
    2) Modify one of the Playbar widgets so that the scrubber and the next button isn't activated until a certain frame has been reached on that particular slide. Once this frame is reached the widget could activate Play and Scrubber allowing the users to navigate to the next slide or move around in the video. However, this requires extensive knowledge of Flash and Actionscript to achieve and it will also be a very troublesome approach as the frame numbers would change if you insert new slides (or extend / shorten existing slides) prior to the slide(s) containing the video.

  • How do I play flv videos on iOS?

    I use netconnect and netstream in my actionscript 3 flash player for desktop FLV video playback. But now I would like to add support for Apple iPad.
    I recently upgraded to Flash Developer Pro CS6 as part of my master suite upgrade.  I was hoping for an HTML5 solution, but a large FLA conversion does not seem likely.
    So now I think I will have to port my FLA actionscript 3 code and the various assests for tooltips and buttons as an AIR application.
    Is publishing my SWF as an AIR app the correct way to support mobile iOS devices? Any example code solutions out there? Any gotchas?
    Here is a link to my flash player overview video that I call "LectureMaker's Cross-domain video platform" for reference:
    http://www.lecturemaker.com/products_services/cross-domain-video-platform/#video
    I see old references to this question, but I think it is time to revisit this problem with some fresh ideas hopefully....

  • Why is my FLV video pausing?

    I have posted a FLV video on my website, using Dreamweaver. The video appears there just fine, but when I play it back it pauses several times during playback.  Here is the page containing the problematic video:  http://www.criticalpathfinders.com/activity_volunteambuilding.html
    My web host says that all the settings are correct, in his words:
    "all of the settings we have in IIS6 are correct, we have a MIME extension as .flv and the MIME type is flv-application/octet-stream.  In the code where the movie is, there is a line that begins object type="application/x-shockwave-flash.  I have added that as a MIME type with the extension of .swf"
    The movie is about 5 minutes long and about 35Mb.
    What is causing this problem and what is the fix?

    hi
    Even though you can adjust the flash players cache, asking your users to do so is not really an option. The speed of your connection is obviously just one of the problems that cannot be changed, so unfortunately your only options are -
    Change your single flv from one large file too a number of smaller files.
    Lower the quality of the flv, (if possible) to decrease download time.
    Inform your users of the size of the file, and offer info on the 'increase cache' option.
    To change player settings, click on the player options icon, (normally on the right hand side of the 'skin') and select the change settings option, (this requires you to be on-line to change the options).

  • FLV video issue , please help

    hi everybody, im an actionscript 3 programmer, with some
    experience but im quite desperate with an issue that i can´t
    solve, please help help, if you know the solution to my issue my
    email is [email protected], thanks so much, i explain now
    * im building an application in which i have to show many flv
    videos dynamically, i have tried with both systems, with the
    FLVPlayback component being created dynamically and with the
    simpler netconnection and netstream etc way, the thing itself works
    no probs , the videos get created no probs at all, now the problem
    is that videos stop playing just after they start, or they play a
    few times and then they freeze or sometimes they dont even load at
    all, this happens both locally and remotelly
    * i read about the MIME video/x-flv issue, i have apache in
    my computer so i set the MIME right there and i still have the
    problem, so it doesnt seem that the MIME issue is the problem, even
    more:
    * first, to provide context, i have a PC with Windows Vista,
    and Flash CS3 Professional, and Flash CS3 Video Converter and Riva
    FLV Encoder, locally i have Apache and PHP installed, remotely a
    fasthosts server
    * i have found that if i encode the videos without audio!
    they almost always work, but here comes the desperating thing, if i
    encode them without audio, they always load, but they still freeze
    sometimes.... so if videos have audio, often they dont even load,
    if they dont have audio, often they work perfect and play, but
    still after playing 2 times maybe they freeze and they dont play
    more
    * i have executed my application in the flash environment, in
    a browser locally, locally in localhost through apache, and online
    in a fasthosts server;
    * i thought i had found something when i realized that if i
    encoded the videos with no audio they seemed to play well no probs,
    but i have found that even then they will freeze and stop moving
    after a while often
    * to encode i have tried many things! the Flash CS3 video
    encoder with different settings, and also the RIVA FLV Encoder
    * i have also , thinking that the kind of video source could
    be important, i have encoded a couple of different sources with
    same results, i encoded uncompressed AVIs and also wmvs
    please anybody can help, as im quite desperate with this,
    thanks very much, my email is [email protected]
    all best and thank you
    Jav

    hi again, i have noticed also that sometimes videos play well
    in Firefox, and not in explorer, why could this be? ive heard of
    other people with similar problems but didnt find a solution
    anywhere, some tests work perfect in firefox online and not at all
    in Explorer, any idea?
    its all coded in actionscript 3

  • An image changing to FLV Video Player in AJAX Update Panel

    Hi,
    I'm trying to design part of a website can seen as video gallery. I have videos related to subcategories; and subcategories that related to categories.
    I was using popups but now want to change it. Simply, firstly there are images and descriptions(in an update panel) of videos on page. After clicking thumbnail, the region includes thumbnail and description wil be changed to FLV video player.
    Outside of updatepanel player is working good. but when i move it into updatepanel; doesn't working in IE. Because JS code (AC_FL_RunContent(.....)) is not working in updatepanel. Tried another script (like alert('hello!');), it's working. I think i have problem with the function named AC_FL_RunContent(...). It's working as i want, if open page with Firefox.
    Looked for this in google. Visited many pages, but never find a solution for this nor source of problem. I hope someone can help me

  • Please help me load an .flv video that has been embeded onto a web page

    Hello there,
    I was hoping someone on this forum could please help me with one specific problem that I am having. I would like to embed the a flash player into an html page, and load the video from a service that has the streaming video provided.
    This is the context of the situation...
    We have created a site that was to be used on a showroom floor (no internet connection) and loaded the .flv videos at the local root level for the site.
    Now however, we would like it to be an online site. I have been able to use the flash "jw player"to load videos to play using the shadowbox javascript, but when I try to embed it onto a page and have it play, it isn't working and I am not sure why.
    Below is the code that is currently working to load the videos on the local root level.
    Might someone have any ideas on what I need to replace to have it load the videos from the streaming service?
    I would greatly appreciate any assistance that could be provided.  I can also provide a URL if it would help.
    I would GREATLY appreciate any assistance provided.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    swfobject.registerObject("player1","9.0.98","expressInstall.swf");
    </script>
    <object id="player1" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" name="player" width="640" height="380">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" />
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=assets/videos/Bob_Peebler.flv&image=images/videoStatic_Peebler.jpg" />
    <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="player.swf" width="640" height="380">
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    <param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" />
    <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" />
    <param name="flashvars" value="file=assets/videos/Bob_Peebler.flv&image=images/videoStatic_Peebler.jpg" />
    <p><a href="http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer">Get Flash</a> to see this player.</p>
    </object>
    </object>

    Hello,
    Thanks  a lot for the reply.  However, I am pretty confident that the jw player supports the streaming video option, but as I mentioned that I was able to use it as a popup using the shadowbox javascript before. After doing a bit of investigating on how the videos are hosted, I am using "progressive download" method for these videos.
    I think the problem is that the player.swf is hosted on my website server -  and the videos are then hosted on the media hosting service.  I think that the player needs to be located on the media hosting service, and then embedded onto the page along with where to point to the .flv video.  Does that sound right?
    If so, the paramater I am using to embed the player as I mentioned in my original post is simply:
    <param name="movie" value="player.swf" />
    does the "value" then have to change to the http:// address for the video player.swf that would then be hosted on my video hosting service?
    Little help?
    Please let me know if there is anything I can provide to clarify the issue.
    Thanks
    M
