Problem adjusting pictures with Preview

Not sure if this is the exactly the right spot for this question so apologies if in corrcet.
I am having a problem with Preview.
There is a small blemish on a scanned photo and I when I open Preview I am using adjust colour' and then copy a similar part of the photo and paste it to cover the blemish. All good so far. However,when I come to save my changes it saves with a horizontal black line across the middle of the photo about 4 mm thick. No matter the format I try JPEG, TIFF etc I get the same result. Would anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on and how to stop it?

The solution is to not use Preview for this particular kind of task. Preview is generally not good for tiny "spot fixes" of a few pixels in jpegs -- it doesn't have nearly the kind of precision or built-in tools required. GraphicConverter is a little better, but also woefully insufficient for this procedure.
I am not an Adobe employee, but can attest that Photoshop is definitely what you need to fix blemishes in scanned images (or any kind of hyper-detailed photo repair/altering).
Either get Photoshop onto your computer, or bring your jpeg file to a computer that already had Photoshop on it, and open the jpeg in Photoshop. Then, in the "Windows" menu, choose the bottom selection, called "Tools," which will open a little floating toolbar window next to your image. In that Toolbar, chose the little icon that looks like a rubber stamp (ninth one down, called "Clone Stamp Tool"). Then, along the top-edge toolbar select the "brush" you want -- I recommend a fuzzy-edged circle, of medium size, to try out at first. Then zoom in on the blemish in your image so you can see it in detail. Then hold down the option key, click a nearby unblemished area of similar color, then release the option key, and click directly on top of the blemish -- the brush will paste the adjacent color on top of the blemish, essentially "erasing" it.
Experiment with this a few times on a backup "test" copy of your image, using different brush types and sizes, and different "sampling" areas. You'll be amazed how invisible the blemish removal can be if done properly!
People who are very good at this specific skill can earn big salaries in the design field; I'm just an amateur, but have taught myself to be pretty good at it just for fixing up family photos.
There may be less-expensive graphics programs with similar capabilities, but I don't know much about them. But I can say for sure that Preview is definitely the wrong application or this kind of image manipulation, while Photoshop is definitely the best solution.

Resize a picture with Preview.app?

I can't find the option to resize pictures in Preview.app :-/ And I mean the actual file/picture not just on screen zoom...
But on the other hand when you check automator, under the 'preview.app' category you have a re-scale option and it does work so the app can do it? But where's the option in the app itself? I can't imagine that I really need to load Photoshop just to make a picture smaller :-/

Well, im not sure that you can rescale pictures with preview app. However, there are nice free little apps you could install that will eat this job alive...And really easy to use.

Problem adjusting columns with 2G Nano & Classic iPods

In the 7.4.1 version, I can't adjust columns with my *2G Nano* and my Classic (80Gb), actually, adjusting columns works in customs playlist but except in the "Music" "TV show" and "Podcast" playlist of my iPods.
("Auto adjust of all columns" in the right click menu on columns doesn't work too)
Oddly, it works like a charm in every playlist (including Music, TV Show & Podcasts!) with my *5G iPod*..
Hope to see a fix in a new release soon..

I am having the same problem with my 3G iPod. I can adjust columns in older materials, but if I make a new playlist on my iPod, I cannot adjust the columns in it. This occurred since upgrading to iTunes 7.4/7.4.1.

PDF Export problems when viewing with Preview 4.2

Hi Everyone,
I'm an Indesign novice for sure, so this may be fairly basic to a lot of you, but I'm having problems with a document of mine. I've built my portfolio in indesign using PNG images from my book. In Indesign I've applied the gradient feather to each image to give it a reflection. When I export the book with no compression, it's too large, so I've tried regular JPEG compression (at maximum) and JPEG 2000 compression at lossless and I get better file sizes, however when I view the PDF in preview there's 2 problems:
1. The images look like crap no matter what with any compression applied. Very blurry, pixelated... generally looks like crap. In Acrobat, everything looks sharp and beautiful.
2. The reflections don't exist at all. There's just an upside down version of the image there with no transparency whatsoever.
I need it to look good in both programs because it's impossible for me to control who's viewing my book in what program. It's so odd because a year ago when I built my portfolio in keynote, it looked beautiful in preview, but like crap in Acrobat.

I can understand the gradient feather not appearing properly, and I can build the reflections into the original PNG if I must, but any idea why the images look so bad? They look fuzzy, and far from sharp with ANY any compression. The only way an exported PDF looks ok in preview is if I export it with no compression at all. Yet when looked at in reader, they look sharp (even with compression).

I've tried everything... problem in CS5 with previewing mode.

I hope someone can help me. I have tried everything, I am pretty new to Flash CS5 and am using ActionScript 3.0 to create buttons, every time I preview or even insert my clip into Dreamweaver it just flashes and flashes. On the timeline everything looks correct for up, over, down & hit, so I am pretty sure it's nothing within the button.. are there any settings for this... or suggestions of what I could be doing wrong?? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been hurting my head for days with this so I figured it was time to seek help

From your description, it sounds like the Flash file is looping. Flash will do that unless you tell it to stop at the end of the timeline. Add a layer to the timeline, go the last frame of the movie, and add a keyframe in this new layer. Select the keyframe, open the actions window and add stop(); to the actions. Now your movie won't loop.

Iphoto 4 problems printing pictures with a hp printer

I have a HP Business inkjet 1100d and am having a problem printing . When it starts to print it will take a long time to do . I can print from safari and microsoft work fine . But if I try to print a picture from iphoto it will only print a small part of the picture .I was wondering if the fact that I am printing from a network card to my printer would make a difference , because I am able to print under usb but not from the network card . If print from use all is fine, but if I print from the network card it wont work at all .
If anyone can help me fix this it would me a good help for me . I as wondering if network printing is supported in iphoto4 . I think maybe thats the problem it wont work on a network card like jetdirect card, hp lio based network card .

I fixed the problem , its the driver dont use the one for cups .also it prints at the right date for expired cartridges .

TA27468 Problem importing pictures with a Nikon D800 into a MacbookPro Retina

I have this problem with a Nikon D800 when importing into a MacbookPro Retina ... I have enough free space, I can always import a batch of files from 10-100 (varying randomly), then get this "unreadable file" error message. Very frustrating.

What version of iPhoto? Importing Raws? Jpegs?
As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
Post back with the result.

Problem Sharing Pictures with iChat

When I try to share a picture via iChat, I save the photo to the desktop and drag it into the iChat window. It says 'a direct connection session has started' but then gives me an error. Everytime I try to type in that chat, I am denied and the program will not work until restarted. Any suggestions on fixing this problem?

Try this log on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

Cannot change size of picture (in Ko) when saving with Preview

Hello all,
I need your help please.
When I modify a picture with Preview, like resize it for example, then I want to save the picture, I cannot change the size in Ko like I used to be able to with Snow Leopard.
Before, in the "Save as" menu, there was an arrow to decrease or increase the "weight" in Ko of the picture. This arrow is still there, but it does not show the number of the actual weight of the picture anymore (is it 400 ko, or 500 ko, or 600 ko, etc...).
Anyone has the same problem ?

I tried the steps you mentioned and found that this issue is also present in Previous versions as in PSE 10 also.
I will suggest you to check "Convert Files to" check box and then select "JPEG Max Quality" from corresponding drop down in order to maintain the quality of your JPEG image.
You can do it specially in case you are processing JPEG files and your image quality will remain same.

Iphone5 cannot send Pictures with Texts?

Have had my iphone5 for 3 months, have tried to send Pictures with my Texts, but failed. No problem sending pictures with e.mails or Facebook?

If MMS is turned on in settings, & you can send/receive SMS's, 99.9% of the time, the problem rests with your carrier, not your phone. Contact your carrier & insure that MMS is properly provisioned on your account. If they tell you everything looks OK, have them re-provision MMS on your account.

Problem with Preview and PSD files - random gray square

Hi guys, hope you can help...
I've got a problem with Preview and PSD files.
If I open in Preview both an original jpg straight from my reflex and the photoshop version of the same picture, the psd file presents a gray square (of what it seems unrendered image) in a random area of the photo (sometimes in the center.). The square is quite big...
If I zoom in or zoom out it disappears...if I scroll to another photo and then back to the psd, the square it's there again...sometimes in a different position.
I've tried the same psd on my older iMac with leopard...and got no problem at all.
I suspect it got something to do with my Ati...
(this is the second iMac 27...the first went back for gray banding on the lcd screen and flickering and yellow tinge........)

maybe I'm onto something...
I've just found out that opening Preview in 32bit mode (instead of default 64bit) works flawlessly with any psd files. If I switch back to 64bit mode, Preview is much faster but the gray square comes back...
It seems like the i7 is much faster than the Ati....
Any more realistic ideas?

Problem with Preview panel in Bridge CS3

Hello,
I've got a problem and I don't seem to get rid of it.
When I use the Adobe Bridge, everything seemds to work fine, EXCEPT... for the preview panel.
It just keeps on showing a 'blank gap' or blank window, from where I can see a part of my Desktop through.
I hope this picture makes it more clear.

Als, when I select a photo in Bridge, it doesn't show up in the preview panel. It just keeps on showing the freezed picture of the part of my desktop.
I use Windows Vista on my laptop now, and that's were the problem is.
On my old XP laptop, with much lower performance, it worked fine under Windows XP.

I have allready tried reinstalling both my laptop with Vista as wel reinstalling the Adobe suite.

Although I still haven't found the real problem for it, the preview panel keeps on freezing, I do have a wokaround found for it.
Because I have a docking station for my laptop, with some free slots in it, I bought a second hand Video Card with 512MB and better performance than the on-board card in the laptop.
I hooked up a external LCD monitor to it and now it works just fine, with no additional modifications in Bridge.
So, although the Bridge / video card still occurs on the laptop, I don't mind working this way.
Maybe a newer driver in the future will solve this problem.

Copy and paste pictures from preview to ebay problem

Hi.
I am creating adverts on eBay with my macbook and when I copy and paste a picture from preview, into the body of the advert it works fine and displays fine. I then save the advert and go to view it on my mac and all displays ok.
However my problem is when I view it on anything other than a mac. The pics just show up as a small block with a strange symbol in it.
Anybody got any ideas?
It seems daft that I can create an ad on a PC and you can view pics no matter what machine you use, yet when I use a mac it's not the case. I hope it doens't mean I have to keep using my PC.
So you know, I have tried it with the picture file being a ".png" file and a ".jpg" file and it made no difference.

Sorry to disagree but this isn't right.
I copy and paste on my PC and it works just fine to view on anything so if what you're saying is right then it would surely do the same on a PC.
Aslo it IS saving the image in the body of the ad because if I view it on another mac it displays correctly.
I'm not sure what you mean by you upload the pictures at the end. I want to type a bit about the product, then have a picture, then type some more and maybe put some more pics. Like this

The only difference here is these were created on a PC.
I must add on thing though. When I'm trying to add the pictures, I have them open in "preview" and I crop them by using the instant alpha cutting tool. Then I copy and paste it. I've even tried savingit as a jpeg file and a bmp file and makes no difference.

Problems with Preview and Digital Camera

Hi All,
I bought a Konica Minolta DImageX1 camera and the first few pics I took and downloaded them onto my ibook ans view them on Preview everything was alright. However, everytime I now transfer pictures to my laptop and when I view them with Preview it displays the following message:
"Preview cannot display the image properly. The file may be corrupt. Reason: Can't cache file". After this the image is loaded anyway.
But when I transfer the pictures to my Windows PC and I view them there, I get no warning message. And I downloaded an Image Viewer freeware from Versiontracker.com and it gave no warning message as well.
Any suggestions as to what could cause this problem with Preview?

What I am concern is that if this affect the image quality.
