PROBLEM: AE Rendered Footage Jittery. Frame Swapping?

Hey everyone,
I recently shot some footages of my friend playing some basketball and decided to make a cloning video out of it. I imported the video file (605.mts) to AECS4, divided up, and layered the clips.
However, for some odd reason, the footage becomes jittery in preview and after export. It's like some frames got moved around. Perhaps the video itself would better explain things for me.
I shot the footage with a Canon Vixia HF100, which shoots in AVCHD that uses .MTS file format. I'm on a quadcore computer, 4gigs of ram. Using Adobe AE CS4. Any help will be appreciated! Thanks

Hum, this looks like an interpretation problem of your AVCHD file.
Short answer: AE struggles to read correctly your file.
Long answer: AVCHD has ton of flavors and revisions based on the original recorder device (camera), and the recording mode (preset you choose). AE supports most of those flavors, but new ones are released everyday on the market, making it difficult to be a reliable format. If you have not yet updated to 9.0.2, I recommand updating now as your AVCHD flavor support might be included in the update.
If it dones't change anything, I recommand you converting your file to a lossless codec format (like QT animation) to manipulate it correctly inside AE.
You can try the free converting tool MPEG Streemclip.
Hope that helps

  • Footage  jittery in fcp screen but good in blackmagic monitor hdmi screen

I filmed footage on a ex1 at hdv level 1080i 1440 pal all looks good on camera, all looks good when you play it out on the camera on component into a plasma screen
so I have imported the footage off the chips into final cut pro. On the motion shots lets say pan left to right, slow 360 pan the footage the fcp poxy screens give it a jittery look, I have a black magic hdmi output on it going to a plasma screen and its a smooth as it should be.
I would not usually worry as a proxy screen built in to edit suites can show that sometimes but when I export the footage the "jittery frame look" is on that too!
on the export I have tried de interlace but still no luck.
Any ideas on how to stop it looking jittery when it should not be? it was shot pal 25 and when I imported its said "lets make a time line to fit this" and I said yes.
    Your help would be great,

    http://www.vimeo.com/1578148
its about 25 seconds in on the 360 pan
I loaded the same clip on to avid liquid and that done ot to ( but in most cases it always had and as it was a proxy screen people said dont worry )
on the avid liquid I exported it to wmv hd and played that back, yes that jitterd, so on avid liquid I mad a short dvd and played that direct on a dvd player and my plasma screen and it was fine.
I am new to fcp and dvdpro but tried making a dvd today with that clip
and ****, the whole film jitterd like crazy it was like double vision so on that bit I must blame my self and try again, must be a setting I missed some where.

  • AV sync problems when rendering Quicktime in PE 8

I have a simple problem when rendering to Quicktime format fromPremere Elements 8: The AV sync goes out of whack.
    I have tried rendering:
(a). To MPEG - output is fine.
(b). To WMV - output is fine.
(c). MOV - av sync errors
I am assembling about five clips. The first clip plays fine. The AV sync problems starts at the second clip - the audio is a good 3 seconds or so ahead of the video.
Everything is fine in the editing window.
I am running in Windows 7.  To make sure it is not the player, I have played the quicktime output in Windows Media and itunes and the same problem is in both.
    Has anyone seen this issue?
    Thanks.

    Hi Steve,
Sorry for the confusion. It a sensible suggestion to identify the input formats and output formats and I would most appreciate your inputs to this issue because I admit that I am really struggling here to get a workflow going.
    Input  formats:
    1. MJPEG 1280x720P at 24 frames per second (from a Panasonic Lumix Camera)
    2. WMV 1280x720P at 24 frames per second from output of other programs (which only support wmv output at High def output)
    3. MPEG2 1280x720P at 24 frames per second (and sometimes 25 frames per second) from other sources
    Target output formats are:
    1. Blu-Ray
    2. MP4 container format @ 1280x720P for playing on my Apple TV
    3. DVD  (ordinary plain PAL DVD at 720x576P at 25 frames per second)
My goal is have Pre Elements 8 Project settings in High Def and then to simply target all three outputs from one project so that I do not have to redo all of the projects with different project settings.
    Workflow is in two stages:
Step 1 is to create one project for each Chapter and save to disk:  The inputs are from all three input formats that I identified above (High Def - MJPEG, WMV, and MPEG2). I would like to edit, mix the audio, and then save each chapter to disk. The format in which I save this is preferably some kind of high def format that can be edited easily at a later time.
Step 2 is to create the Project that is used to assemble each chapter for final output: This is the project where I put in Chapter marks, create menus, etc.  The target outputs from this chapter are  Blu Ray (high def), AppleTV (high def), and PAL DVD (Standard def).
In all cases, I set up my Project Settings as HDV-AVI for internal rendering because all inputs are high def and most target outputs are high def.
Issues that I am dealing with:
    1. I cannot figure out the best export format to go from Step 1 to Step 2.  HDV-AVI doesn't seem to be available as an export format. Basically, I am looking for an export format that puts the least strain on resources when they are read in for Step 2 and retains the highest quality.
    2. Most of my inputs are 24 frames per second but the internal rendering for Pre Elements 8 seems to be 25 frames per second.  Frame rate conversion can be quite tricky and can put significant strain on resources, but it is not clear if this is straining Pre Elements 8 or not. It does seem to be. I am happy to convert my files into a format that puts the least strain on Pre Elements 8 internal rendering and yet produces the best output.
Note: If you ask - why do I do this in two steps?  It is because I am always putting a strain on system resources when operating in high def. Unless I am careful, I get a message that Pre Element is "low on resources" followed by a crash shortly thereafter.  I have Win7 32 bit, 4 GB RAM, no other programs running, all drivers updated with the most recent version (yes - even the NVIDIA driver) so there really isn't anything else that I can do in this area.
So I am looking for suggestions in the following areas:
    1. An alternative workflow that produces the three high def outputs with the three high def inputs defined above that doesn't cause Pre Elements to continually go low on resources and crash.
          OR
    2. A recommendation for a high def format that puts minimal strain on Pre Element resources?
    Thanks!

I wouldn't say Sg is a badly compromised program ... if one takes a car and tries to make it do the work of a truck, well ... one will be unhappy with the car, but is it really the fault of the makers of the car?
Speedgrade has it's glitches, and no one on the planet can tell you more about them than the guys that created it or those that are working it behind the scenes. But Speedgrade is designed to be a grading program ... not an NLE or an encoding program. It has those functions simply so that for some who say just want to do quick dailies probably doing quick & dirty grading of un-trimmed "clips" just to get something out for directors to see if what they shot will work. In my experience, for that use you need to know exactly how it needs setting, and have your presets stored.
The whole idea of this software is to be part of a group ... each program specialized into one set of problems, rather than each trying to be an equal Swiss-Army knife. And in use, it works quite well (for most of us most of the time) though there are a few glitches. Such as say, key-framed masks that at times can be problematic. Be that as it is, use the program for what it is designed for. Within that, it can be pretty awesome.

  • Why does pre-rendered footage get re-rendered again for every playback or preview?

    Dear Sir/Mdm,
I'm a novice, please bear with me.
I'm using an Asus laptop with:
         1. CPU: Intel i5-3337U @ 1.80 GHz (4 CPUs)
         2. OS: Windows 8.1 64 bits (6.3, Build 9600)
         3. RAM: 8 GB
         4. DirectX: Version 11
         5. On-board Graphics: Intel HD 4000
         6. Dedicated Graphics:  GeForce GT 740M
         7. Dedicated video memory: 2048 MB DDR3
         8. Nvidia Driver version: 6.14.13.3523
         9. Total available graphics memory: 4096 MB
I hoped to avoid repeated rendering of footage segments during RAM previews, scrub-through, or playbacks.
I pre-composed related layers of completed segments and pre-rendered the pre-comp, which gave a footage (in AVI format) to replace the pre-comp.
But when I scrub-through, playback (spacebar), or do RAM previews, the pre-rendered footage gets re-rendered again (for every scrub-through/preview/playback).
    Need advice.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the responses and apologies for the slow reply (I spent some time following-up on the clues from the kind responses and did a more focused reading of AE's Help page based on the clues).
    To answer Mr Szalam's questions:
         I'm using AE CS6 version 11.0.4.2
         Memory settings:
              Installed RAM: 7.9 GB
RAM Reserved for other applications: 2 GB
RAM Available for AE: 5.9 GB
[Not selected] Reduce cache size when system is low on memory
         Previous Multiprocessing settings:
              Installed CPUs: 4
CPUs reserved for other applications: 1
RAM allocation per background CPU: 1.5 GB
Actual CPUs that will be used: 0
Current Multiprocessor settings: [Not selected] (due to advice given in the responses)
Copy that on the RAM part. Time for a little hardware upgrade :-)
For Mr/Mdm bogiesan's advice, thanks. Now I know more of what to look out for in simplifying future projects. For this current case, the pre-dendered movie-layer is the only layer-segment as I intended it to be a completed segment in the hope of avoiding repeated renders ... alas, it didn't turn out the way I hoped ... oh well :-)
For Mr Dave La Ronde's advice, copy that. I've disabled multiprocessing. Indeed, I'm using sub-par hardware for the intended purposes.
    To sum up:
    From AE's Help-pages:
    1.  "If you have a nested composition ... you can save time during each rendering operation by pre-rendering the nested composition ..."
Takeaway: Re-rendering will occur under all situations, be it a plain movie-layer, effects-applied movie-layer, etc. Pre-rendering was designed to save time on nested compositions only (i.e. re-rendering nested compositions take longer than re-rendering the pre-rendered version of the nested composition).
    2. "The rendering of a movie is the frame-by-frame rendering of each of the frames that make up the movie.".
Takeaway: Even plain-movies get re-rendered. Since pre-rendered movies are the same as imported movies, everything gets re-rendered without exception.
Although Premiere Pro CS6 seems to handle movie footages with transition-effects more smoothly (e.g. during scrub-through), but I guess AE CS6 has much more to keep track of if it needs to tell the difference between a plain-movie and an effects-applied one ... perhaps a more optimized approach is indeed to render everything without exception. Perhaps a dedicated no-render-layer-slot can help AE to decide what not to render (i.e. anything dragged into such a no-render-layer will never be rendered) ... but that's just from a novice hobbyist's limited-knowledge perspective (I'm not a professional effects artist, which may be obvious from the sub-par hardware I use ... I bought the Teachers and Students Edition of CS6, which was kindly offered by Adobe at a steep discount ... and I use it to satisfy my curiosity of how those stuff-of-dreams sort of movie-effects are created ... for now, I'm only able to play with basic video montages :-)
Thanks for all the responses. Case closed as AE seems to be designed to render everything without exception.

  • Problems when rendering color correction.

Hi! I discovered a possible bug in Pro CS3. Maybe in Pro 2 too? When manually adjusting "levels" in the Color Correction menu, the rendering
makes some frame dropouts. I pulled away som blue tint in some
footages and the render results in jumpy playback when people move fast by the camera. Sounds' linear and OK. When scrolling the timeline frame by frame, some frames are gone compared to the original. Ticking
the Effect Icon in the Effects Control window on and off, it changes
back to normal in the original movie. Exporting it as AVI makes same.
But when doing Color Balance instead, and lowering blue, everythings'
    normal. Strange!

  • Why do I loose rendered footage from my timeline in Premiere Elements 10, after saving my project !

Why do I loose rendered footage from my timeline in Premiere Elements 10, after saving my project on exit! When I reopen the project, the timeline needs rendering again! Can anyone help me with this problem, it's driving me mad!
Is there a fix, or is it a problem with settings in the program! Any help, greatly appreciated! Mike's Media.

    Mike,
    Welcome to the forum.
Along with the answers to Steve's questions, please tell us about your computer's I/O sub-system, i.e. your computer's HDD's, and especially where the Project, the media and the PrE Scratch Disks are stored. For instance, if everything is on C:\, or perhaps the Project, media and Scratch Disks are all on an external USB 2.0 HDD.
    Good luck,

  • Problems importing HD footage

I'm having problems importing HD footage from my Canon XHA1 into imovie.

    Why??

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I think maybe you took a wrong turn somewhere. You have posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum. You may want to try posting in the iMovie Forum.

  • Problem with graphs on repeating frames

Is it possible to use graphs showing correct data within repeating frames?
We experienced problems with graphs within repeating frames, each occurrence of a graph shows the same picture (using data that corresponds to the first frame).

Sounds like the source data for the Graph is the wrong Group.

  • My mac shows very colourful patterns and completely freezes my system. This bEgan after rendering footage went sour. My mac tries to restart itself but never works. Please help!

hey team? My MacBook Pro is completely lame after rendering footage out of Adobe premier pro cc14 ( the legit one).
2.6ghz 8 gig ram and 1 terabyte. The footage was 4k go pro stuff. since then and now every time i successfully turn on my mac; patterns appear and violently change as if possessed. It is actually quite impressive. The one thing I remembet doing was in limiting the kb per second from the 10,000 to unlimited. this I fear may have caused my computer to burn eight theoug  the graphics card.
I Took it to a place to get fixed ( core ) in New Zealand - who couldn't determine anything theafter because they never had the glitch when try used it. Still chargede though- So never use them.

  • Problems with rendering quality in Premiere Elements 9

Hello, I've made a few videos with PE 9 now, and I get very poor quality rendering despite trying several different settings. I saw on a help thread earlier that I needed to try changing to HD when creating the new file from the beginning. I did that, but it only made my PE 9 run more slowly, and the rendering quality was not improved. I also read somewhere that using .MOV files as a source can cause problems with rendering; is that true? I hope not! I use a Lumix bridge camera for my videos, and the video quality is very good. And when I'm working with these videos within PE 9 the quality is great. It's only when exporting to various file types that the quality suddenly becomes poor. For the most part I have made compilation videos of gymnasts, and when their legs move they are often so lined or pixelated that they become invisible. Here is an example of a short gym video I made yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0s7tUBcSZk. The last girl jumping gives the best example of this invisible leg problem.
You can see the original source films here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmUMi9oN8dQ
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEzcJZjhxiI
    and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I53twqPQMV4
The sequences I took in my compilation video start at about 20 seconds in the source videos.
Youtube does reduce the quality of the videos slightly, but in any case you can definitely see a difference in quality between the source videos and the PE 9 rendered compilation video.
I'm quite disappointed because I made a longer compilation video set to music (which was a lot of work), and it looks so much nicer on PE 9 than on any of the rendered formats, but of course I can't share the PE 9 version!
Thanks very much for your help.
    Chleste

Thanks Steve. I'm not sure what resolution I'm shooting in, actually. However, the thing is that when I make these compilations, I like to go back to source videos I've made in the past sometimes. Sometimes these videos come from a Canon camera, and sometimes they even come from my Samsung mobile telephone. I like being able to creatively combine historic moments, and these moments might have been recorded without any intention at the time of making a compilation video. Is it not possible to combine several kinds of video sources?
I'm uploading an example of a compilation with mixed source videos from various kinds of cameras. It's 710 Megs so it will take a while, but when it's finished you will be able to see it at http://youtu.be/CslpULRe4LU.
I opened up the file for the compilation of the four girls on the beam (video posted in original message), and I do indeed see those red lines in the timeline. Is there anything I can do now about that, or do I have to start the project all over?
I'm confused about the processor requirements. Even if I can see my video perfectly in PE 9, the actual export process will be affected if my system is not up to par? If so, that's a bit disappointing! I'm not sure what my processor details are, but I will find out and let you know.
    Many thanks.

  • Stalling:Error in background rendering so switching to foreground rendering after 0 frames completed

Our facility is running AE CS6 ver 11.0.0.378 on 8 core Mac Pros with 32 Gb ram running OSX10.6.8
using Thinkbox Deadline 5.2 for distributed rendering to other 8 Core Mac Pros with 32 Gb ram.
The issue is that we are in crunch mode trying to deliver 4K comps (soon to be 8k comps) and we are experience substantial
delays 10-20 minutes after the AERENDER starts, but before it starts doing any fruitful rendering.
We are reading from and writing to Quicktime movie files (which normally works just fine for us) and thus the entire frame range needs
to get computed on a single host.
The symptom is that many comp jobs (but not all) stall for a while with no apparent actibity before spitting this messgage, but then happily
and swiftly complete each frame in a second or less with no errors:
0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:   There is an error in background rendering so switching to foreground rendering after 0 frames completed out of total 576 frames.
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00001 (1): 20 Min, 16 Sec
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00002 (2): 1 Seconds
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00003 (3): 0 Seconds
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00004 (4): 1 Seconds
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00005 (5): 2 Seconds
    0: STDOUT: PROGRESS:  00006 (6): 1 Seconds
Given that the delay, seems to be related to the number of frames (350 frames creates a 10 min stall and 576 frames creates a 20 minute stall), it seems like it's trying to do something for every frame in background mode, before it gives up and does them quickly
in foreground mode. During this time, there doesn't seem to be any signficant CPU or Network or IO activity. I looked for command line args that might force AERENDER to foreground mode, but didn't find anything.
Here's what the digested submission args look like.

We're under the gun to get this production delivered, and these delays are killing us. I worry when we switch to 8K comps
that the "fruitless delay time"  will just get longer.
I'm currently trying to correlate the plug-in assortments in effect for the shots that exhibit this behaviour. Clearly in "foreground mode" the machines are capable of rendering the shot quickly.   We've speculated, that posibly some plugins may be GPU or OpenGL accelerated (these machines have ATI Radeon HD 5770 cards) despite the fact that AERENDER probably doesn't require special graphics cards).
Anyone have any ideas, especially if there is some way for force the foreground mode from the start?

Just to follow up, Our compositing supervisor was still convinced that running with MP was the way to go, so I worked
with him to run some benchmarks on medium and heavy shots that we determinied would trigger the issue in -MP mode.
The test scene was about 50 frames in length, and we ran it on the same hosts with -MP on and -MP off, and also ran a
version of bundled frames (10 frames per host/task) and another where we did all 50 frames on a single host (with and without MP).
Interestingly, in every scenerio of these 4 cases, the version with -MP on, was 2-15% faster (despite the 10-11 minute delay at the start in MP mode).
His conclusion was it's still faster with -MP mode ON, and requested that I continue to explore for patches or theories how we might get around the delay.

  • Problem in USBCAN 8473 Multiple Frame Reading by using LabVIEW Frame API

    Hello,
I have a problem in reading the multiple frame data from my device.
I'm using the sample code "transmit receive same port.vi"
I can only receive the first frame of the data.
Is this due to the configuration issue or anything that I miss out?
    Thank everyone for help!

    Atif,
Did you get a solution to the problem you were having? We have a similar problem.
    Thanks,

  • Frame Swap in Netweaver

    Hi All,
I have question related to swpping monitored using ST02.
I read about "Frame Swaps" and found note 121808 (Swaps in program buffer although space is free) pertaining to the same.
The note speaks of parameter "abap/buffersize_part1" which leads to the term "Frames swapped".
It also says that the parameter does not have any effect as of Release 4.5A.
I would like to know the relevance of the "Frames Swapped" in performance tunning of Netweaver 700 systems.
As also how is the loading of large programs taken care or implemented in 700 systems?
    Regards,
    Navin Shettigar

    Thanks manoj for the answer.
I do agree with your analysis of note but my query is not specific to the note.
The "Framed Swaps" entry still comes in 700 system while doing inidividual buffer analysis in ST02 along with "Object Swaps".
I am presuming that there has to be some use in 700 system else SAP wouldnt have kept the record for "Framed Swaps".

Hello, I am experiencing a problem with my footage dropping out or going to black. It is random. Sometimes the same piece of footage works other times not. Sometimes restarting is enough, but not always. I've trashed the prefs and adjusted memory options, but the problem persists.
    I am on a 2x2.93 GHz Quad_Core Intel MacOS 10.6.4
    with 12GB 1066MHz DDR3 of Memory

Is anyone else having this problem?

This forces a disk check called fsck -fy it is similar to repair disk on the disk utility. Once it has started up to your log in screen restart normally and see if that helps
