Problem after consolidating library

Hi,
I've changed the location of my iTunes music, as described in this link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1449
After I consolidated the library, I compared the size of the iTunes folder in both locations and there is a difference of 50 GB.
So what went wrong?
Thanks in advance.

Use this. It works great...
-> iTunes Track CPR v1.3
"This script attempts to locate the files of so-called "dead tracks"--iTunes tracks designated with (!)--that you assume are not actually missing but are still located in the iTunes Music folder in their "iTunes File Order" (Music -> Artist -> Album -> file.xxx). Any correct files found will be added to iTunes and will replace the "dead track" in each playlist it appears in (except Smart Playlists). Most tag data will also be rescued. Tracks whose files cannot be located will be ignored. Additionally, a text file report is generated that lists successfully resuscitated tracks and the tracks which couldn't be revived. Not a perfect solution! Read Me should be read thoroughly. iTunes 4.1 or better"

  • Problem when Consolidating Library

When I go to consolidate my pretty big library, I get an error message saying that "File name is to long or corrupted" and then the consolidating process just stops!
How can I find out what file is giving me the problem so that I can continue with the consolidating of the library!!
    Thanks so much in advance!

There are dozens of postings with this problem on the forum. Has anybody found exactly what source (music) file name issues prevent the 'Consolidate Library' utility from working? I can't easily backup the 2,000+ music files to an external drive because iTunes is unable to succesfully consolidate my music library.

  • Problems after transferring library via Homeshare

I've recently transferred my itunes library from an old PC to my new laptop, via Homeshare, which seems to have worked fine.
As I won't be using the old PC anymore, I have deactivated all computers registered and re-activated the laptop and this seems to recognise both the laptop and my Iphone as devices.
The problem is that when I try and sync music to my Iphone, after choosing what I want from the library on my laptop, it tells me that my iphone is still 'linked' to my old PC.  I had thought, once I had deactivated the PC, it would revert to the laptop.
Can anyone advise me what I need to know now, in order to have the library on my laptop as the one and only library?
    Thanks

    AB,
Once you have built your library on the new computer, and verified that it has everything, go ahead and sync your phone to the new machine.
It may be that the new library is identical to the old one, but the iPhone does not know or care about that!  It just syncs to the library that give it.

  • Problems after transferring Library

I just transferred my Library from an old Windows PC to my new one, using my iPod as the disk transfer.  Everything seemed to work ok except on the new PC it tells me to authorise the computer - but when i try i get a message saying iTunes Store not currently available.  The music seems to have successfully synced back on to the iPod but is greyed out on the iTunes view of the iPod's music library.  Not sure if this is just an authorisation issue, in which case how do i get round the error message?  Or if it is to do with the actual file transfer.  Any help would be really appreciated!

You really should've exported your library using itunes and then imported it into the new pc.  Have you tried to copy the itunes media folder from the old pc to the new one?

  • Organizing Songs After Consolidating Your Library

I didn't realize that you should check the box that says "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" before consolidating your library, so the box was unchecked when I consolidated my library. After consolidating my library, I went back and checked that box and hit okay again, and this box came up, saying that it was organizing my songs or whatever. Can I assume then that my songs are still arranged by album, artist, etc.?

Sorry, I'm computer-illiterate, but I'm not sure which one of the folders in my iTunes main folder is the consolidated library. There's one folder called "iTunes Music," which has a bunch of different subfolders, but I think there's some music on there that I deleted from my library, because I didn't want to listen to it anymore. Then there's another thing in my main iTunes folder called "iTunes Music Library," and it has the icon of a dog-eared page with a world on it with these signs: < and > on either side of it and straight lines under it (sorry if i'm not descriptive enough). The only problem with that is that it only has 3.52 MB of stuff on it, and I think I have more than that amount of music on my iPod. When I click on it, it opens a page on the Internet filled with what looks like programming text. Finally, there's a third thing in the main iTunes folder just called iTunes Library, and it has the icon of the dog-eared page with the iTunes symbol on it and the word "Data." When I click on this, it opens iTunes on my computer. Do you have any idea which one of these is my consolidated library? Thanks for your help!

  • Problems restoring a consolidated library ... Help!:(

I've recently consolidated my full library and copied my iTunes folder located @My music folder. After i formatted my laptop i copied all my music folder from my consolidated library (located in an external hard drive) and also copied my iTunes folder and specified the correct location of my ancient library.
THE PROBLEM IS: that now, that everything its suposed to be CORRECTLY RESTORED, i got and error message in ALL MY SONGS asking me to locate the file
i dont know what to do! T.T please help.

iTunes relies on the complete paths to find songs.
So maybe if you post the complete paths of before & after, we can figure out what is going on.
    Old laptop was using C:/????
Then you ran the itunes consolidate command to somewhere on an exhD, and its drive letter was what?
Is the drive letter on the new PC the same?

  • Is consolidating library necessary if you have the "copy files to itunes media folder" box checked?

Like the title, Since I've had iTunes I've always had the box checked for "copy files to itunes media folder"... if I want to backup my itunes folder now, do I still have to consolidate the library? I just copied it over without consolidating and it took like half an hour, so I'm just wondering if I should do it again after consolidating? I'm assuming it's fine. It seems to have transfered all 70G of my music.

    Sharing,
What Consolidate does is look thru your iTunes library, and for any track that is not already in your iTunes Media Folder, it puts a copy there.
If you have always had Copy checked, and have never moved your iTunes Media Folder, and have not manually put any files elsewhere, then you probably already have all your files in the iTunes Media Folder, and would not need to run Consolidate.  However, it would not hurt.

  • HT1449 I tried to move the itune folder to an external hdd,  (precisely as written above) but after "consolidating, happens nothing

tried to move the itune folder to an external hdd,  (precisely as written above) but after "consolidating, happens nothing

That's because too many people confuse moving media folder with moving the library properly.
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music [library] to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527 - a somewhat bewildering and not always easily understandable set of options.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the iTunes Library.itl file in the moved iTunes folder.
For the record there's this reference for iTunes 11 but it really doesn't strike me as having the specifics you need. iTunes 11 for Mac: Move your library to another computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12168

  • Finder(?) problem after installing security update 2008-008

I hope someone can help with this problem:
After I installed Security update 2008-008 the finder(?) has begun to behave irratically.
Whenever the mousepad is clicked, the dock slides off to the left and the click is not registered by whichever application I am in. Mostly menus are affected. I now have to click the application and menu item several times before the click is registered.
Safari is particularly badly affected with the pointer jumping around the screen when trying to copy an url (dock keeps sliding to the left), page back/forward doesn't work - url links within web pages are not recognised. Furthermore, when using yahoo mail, menus like 'send' and 'save' are not recognised.
Any suggestions how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated!
    Andrew

    HI Andrew,
This is most likely caused by some 3rd part APP or kext that is now out of date.
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then test your problem there.
Now reboot in regular mode, if the problem didn't happen in Safe Mode, but does in Regular mode, See if there is anything relevant in...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
Also look in in Your Accounts Pref Pane Login Items window.

Problems after updating..completely improrting all the music. This is absolutly ****!!! Not the right quality for Apple! Shame on you!

Wow! I put your germany text in google translator to my language and got a fright! Well, I stop using iPhoto just for the same kind of reason. I found a small mp3 player called VOX that works with m3u files and maybe is the solution for you. I cannot live without iTunes, but I don't let it manage my files anymore. It's the best player I know, but as a application, is a disaster.
Wow!

  • Avitek Sample Application - problems after imported to Eclipse

I downloaded "Avitek™ Medical Records Sample Application" and started a domain successfuly with this aplication. Then I imported its to my Eclipse Juno with the interest to debug this sample application. I included every lib are need. Now I am getting the error "Default target install does not exist in this project" in every build.xml on the target "<project name=".
Other error I got is "The type javax.jms.Message cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files" in the PatientNotifierBroker project. I looked for javax.jms_1.1.2.jar and I had already added this library.
Have someone face both problems after imported this sample?

11g by default is case sensitive username/password.
You can disable that with setting parameter SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON to false.
    SQL> SHOW PARAMETER SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON
    SQL> ALTER SYSTEM SET SEC_CASE_SENSITIVE_LOGON = FALSE;

  • Consolidated Library, now what?

I reformatted my hard drive after consolidating my library, now I want to put the music back, and am having trouble. I tried importing, then adding files, and it's a flipping hassle. Anyone know how to do this? Do I have to manually add each file from every artist from every folder? I can see the songs that I consolidated, now just getting them to the Itunes library...oh, and I don't know what I did, but I was somehow able to copy over those playlists, like 90's and recently played, ect. So those are in my library now, but that's it. Thanks!

I swear I tried that already, but for some reason it just worked. Thank you!

  • Problems after iTunes 9 installation

I have got several problems after the iTunes 9 upgrade:
    - all browser I use (IE8, Firefox, Safari) crash once I try to see any of the tutorials on www.apple.com, IE8 says "An error occured inside a plug-in contained in this page.", Firefox restarts, Safari just crashes
    - once I connect my iPod touch to iTunes 9, it offers me upgrade to 3.1.1 OS, after extracting, it quits with information "The iPod could not be updated. An uknown error occured (3001)".
    - my Apple TV doesn't show up in iTunes 9 (other devices connected to intranet are visible, iPod connects with Apple TV without any problem via the Remote programm)
    Does anyone has similar experience?
    Thank you in advance

The problem where Genius says, "Genius results can't be updated right now. The required file cannot be found." is related to BranchCache.
    Disable BranchCache and try again.
You can find a bit more on BranchCache here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd637820%28WS.10%29.aspx
You can disable it from an administrative command prompt with "netsh branchcache set service mode=DISABLED."
    Best of luck
