Problem after downgrade

I downgraded my iphone 3g from version 4.2 because it was slowing the device too much. I downloaded a 3.1.3 version to downgrade. The downgrade went on successfully, but I am not able to purchase apps anymore as the buy, download buttons seem unreactive. Same goes for the reviews. I discovered that it looks as i am not signed in, even if from the Settings screen I am correctly logged. I tried to login through the appstore, but the button is unreactive there as well.
Afterwards, I tried to upgrade back to 4.2, but unfortunately I am always receiving error, 3194 everytime I try, even if  itunes is updated to the latest version. This is supposed to be my mothers Christmas gift, please help if you can. Thanks a lot!

All of your problems are related to the fact that you downgraded, which required hacking the phone. Once hacked you are pretty much out of luck, unless you really know what you are doing. You also can't get help in an Apple forum for a hacked phone. Here is what Apple says about that error: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694#error3194
To downgrade the phone you probably used an app installed on your computer. That app hosed the network settings on your computer to fool iTunes into letting you downgrade. One solution is to restore it on a different computer. Another is to fix the problem in the hosts database on your computer; you will need to remove all lines in the hosts database that contain "gs.apple.com". On a Windows computer it can be found at c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. It is a hidden file, so you will have to set your computer to show hidden files. On a Mac it can be found at /etc/hosts. You will need root privileges to fix it, and a unix editor such as vi.

  • Major problems after downgrading to 10.2--stuck in console

I just created a disaster after downgrading my old G3 iMac from Tiger down to Panther (10.2). When I did the installation from the install disc, I set it to archive the old system and save all user settings. After the installation, I could not log in to any of the users accounts with the old passwords, which I know are correct. I then booted from the install disc, went into disc utility, and repaired permissions. Then, I (perhaps stupidly) used the "reset passwords" utility to reset the passwords of all the user accounts (to the original passwords). After rebooting, I was able to log into to each of the accounts, but immediately after logging in, I was immediately sent to the console! ("Welcome to BSD/Darwin," etc.). I was able to log in through the command line, and did a ls -l to confirm that the directories were still intact, but my unix skills don't go much beyond that. After exiting, I got bounced back to the (graphical) login screen. Could someone please help me out of this mess? I do have a Powerbook G4 and an external bootable hard drive that I could use to boot from (in addition to the install disc, of course), if needed. Thank you!

    Paul:
I hope you backed up at least your Users Folder before attempting this major procedure.
Here are a couple of articles you may have already seen that pertain to the operations you attempted to perform:
Mac OS X: How to reinstall a prior version
Mac OS X: About the Archive and Install feature
Here is what I suggest you do to extricate yourself from your predicament. Boot from the external HDD and see if you can access the info on your computer and try backing up your Users Folder which contains your data and library. You can use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone it, or just drag and drop it. After you have secured your Users Folder then boot from the install disk of the OS of your choice, wipe disk using a simple erase, then reinstall your OS. You can then migrate your Users Folder back.
    Good luck.

  • Problem after downgrading back to ITv.6....missing music during iPod synch?

I recently happily downgraded back to iTunes v.6 after experiencing a nightmare with iTunes v.7. Since re-installing v.6, everything is fine except for one strange and annoying problem. I'm hoping someone can help, so here goes....
Now, when I synch/update my iPod as I had always done (not automatically, but with selective playlists checked), about 400 of 1700 songs do not transfer from my G4 to the iPod. However, when I switch to update with the automatic option to include all playlists, all 1700 songs transfer over to the iPod. I believe I've narrowed this problem down to one particular playlist which may not be getting recognized by the iTunes library. In other words, I want this one playlist to appear in iTunes, but not on my iPod. But, if I try to update with this one playlist unchecked, 400 songs do not transfer over. This seems odd since all music files (mp3s) from all playlists are located in the iTunes music folder on my hard drive.
So, my question is....how can I go back to updating my iPod to include all of the 1700 songs in my library, but without the one particular playlist (which is quite large)? As was the case before the iTunes v.7 debacle, is there a simple way to get my library to recognize the particular playlist so I can update my iPod selectively without putting that playlist on my iPod? I've tried to do some online research before bothering the wise people on this Board and it would seem that I either need to: 1) somehow import that particular playlist back into my iTunes library or 2) create a new iPod library file which I understand may cause me to lose my playlists and comments. I'm afraid to do either without some guidance, for fear of making the situation worse. I'm not very technical and I'm guessing there's a simple fix for this, so I'd sincerely appreciate any help and advice. Thanks very much.

  • Iphoto problems after downgrade from Yosemite to OSX 10.8.5

After a successfull downgrade from Yosemite to 10.8.5 Mountain Lion my ( 'old Yosemite' ) iPhoto backup is not compatible with iPhoto reinstall.
Is there a way to repair or fix this problem?
My patience involving the dramatic Yosemite 'upgrade' is tested to the max I need to say.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
OS X Yosemite uses a newer iPhoto version than OS X Mountain Lion, so it is normal that you cannot use your iPhoto library in Mountain Lion again.
Maybe you will not like what I am going to tell you, but have you tried a Yosemite clean install instead of an upgrade? A lot of users have reported problems with the upgrade to Yosemite, and a clean installation fixes all these problems, because you are going to format the hard drive and install OS X Yosemite as new. I recommend you to try this.

  • HP Pavilion G6-2244NR network, usb, wireless problems after downgrade to Windows 7

HP Pavilion G6-2244NR with networking issues.  Okay, so I have a G6-2244NR that I had to downgrade to Windows 7 Pro 64 (SP1), due to problems with software compatibility.  Install was originally done on UEFI GPT, wiped 8 and started from scratch with Legacy support MBR.  Install went perfectly fine.  However, I boot into 7 and I get the Network icon showing a red X.  I then go into  manager and note that there are no networking devices listed.  Instead I have 8 devices listed under "Other Devices" with yellow exclamations by each of them.  This includes the Bluetooth Controller, the Ethernet Controller, the Network Controller, a PCI device, the SM Bus Controller, two USB controllers, and an "Unknown Device".  Bluetooth ID is ven_1814&dev 3298, Ethernet ID PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8136, and so on.  I have downloaded drivers out the wazoo.  I think I updated the chipset but not sure if right chipset updates (Catalyst 12.6).  Still no luck.  Every time I try and install what I think are correct drivers I get a "Device not working" error on the LAN card.  Can anyone help??

  • Activation problem after downgrade 10.0.1 - 10.0.0

    Hello,
recently I had upgraded my home computer to CVI10.0.1 to enjoy the many bug fixes; everything went fine but I had to learn that my SSP had expired leaving me without a valid license for SP1. So I de-installed 10.0.1 and re-installed CVI 10.0.0. No apparent problem appeared, but since then I have to active my license every time I start my computer.
Activation works o.k. but after (re-)starting the PC the status of the license manager always tells me: 'activated for a different computer' - so I have to activate CVI everytime I start the computer...
Any suggestions of how to resolve the issue? (Win 7 64 bit, CVI 10.0 FDS)
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunately, activation of CVI 2012 still does not work automatically if the computer is equipped with two SSD's / network cards.
I would like to escalate this topic - it is REALLY annoying not to have a valid license after a regular, paid update just because the computer is a bit less standard... This hardware configuration results in a new computer-ID after every reboot, thus invalidating the previous activation.
I had fixed it after a few days with intense personal support from NI for CVI2010, now with CVI2012 the problem starts again (and the former NI employee has left, unfortunately)

  • How to downgrade kernel 3.10 - blank screen problem after upgrade

After a recent upgrade, which included kernel 3.10, my ASUS zenbook ux21a boots into a blank screen as reported in these topics:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167411
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167463
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167518
How do I downgrade to kernel 3.9, please?
On this laptop I only have dual boot Arch and Win8 (but also a vacant partition). My grub timeout is set to 0 seconds because I almost never use windows, hence my problem is to get any control of the PC. I have attempted a fresh install from USB, but it takes me into exactly the same blank screen. I also attempted install of the older arch version, which went ok until post-installation reboot, following which I ended up with the same blank screen - probably because during the installation the new kernel 3.10 was downloaded.
I read in the above topics that people solved the problem by downgrading the kernel - somehow via chrooting from live arch usb. I lack knowledge on how to perform the kernel downgrade - perhaps someone can give instructions or at least tips how to get started.
Interestingly, the same kernel 3.10 upgrade did not cause problems on a very similar predecessor model ASUS us21e - this info may help the advanced guys to diagnose the source of the problem.

Thanks, andrekp, but it didn't work on my UX21A.
Here's what I did (screen stays black all throughout):
    1. Boot the computer. I believe this takes me to login promt at tty1.
    2. I login by blindly entering userid, <enter>, password, <enter>
    3. speaker-test <enter> - I hear noise. Ctl+c to get out (noise stops).
    4. Switch to tty2 by pressing ctl+alt+f2.
    5. In tty2, I login by blindly entering userid, <enter>, password, <enter>; then speaker-test successful on tty2.
    6. Switch back to tty1 by pressing ctl+alt+f1; speaker-test successful again on tty1.
    7. Type startx. I assume that X and openbox are started successfully: I start lxterminal by pressing my custom short-cut keys combo that I specified in openbox's rc.xml; and speaker-test gives me audible noise from within lxterminal.
Again, screen stayed dark as night all the time, so the problem remains.
As my time allows, I try to come up to speed and follow/replicate the attempts to identify/resolve this problem made by more advanced guys in other topics:
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167411
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167463
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167518
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=167314
The problem originally arose at # pacman -Syu, which included kernel upgrade from 3.9.9 to 10.3.3. After a later upgrade to 10.3.5, the problem remains. I've enabled 'testing' repositories on my other laptop, UX21E (which doesn't have this problem despite being the closest model!) - and I wait for the new 'testing' kernel to be released in arch, hoping to do a blind upgrade on UX21A and that it solves the problem. I also monitor https://www.kernel.org for when kernel 3.11 becomes available. If I manage to install kernel 3.11 even before it's released in arch-testing, maybe the problem will be gone...
In the mean time, I keep using the UX21A computer having installed Lubuntu on another partition (it has kernel 3.8).
    Thanks again!

  • Permission problems after upgrade to 10.5 on early Power PC G5 Tower

Permissions problems after upgrading to 10.5 on a client power PC (early) G5 tower.
Problems include folders that are created on XServe via this client do not allow any one else including this client to access. All other clients running 10.5, which happen to be newer Intel machines do not have this problem. Repairing permissions, updating to 10.5.1, try to manually correct permissions have all failed to repair the situation. All clients log onto the XServe with the same user/password. This client has since been downgraded back to 10.4.9 and has no issues.
The Xserve runs 10.3.9, any help would be greatly appreciated.
We have read through the forums regarding permission problems after upgrading and even tried some tips found here.

You really should check things out first before speaking.
    Here are the requirements for 10.5;
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard requires:
A Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or Power PC G4 (867 MHz or faster) processor
    512 MB memory or more
    A DVD drive for installation
9 GB of available disk space or more
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider, fees may apply.
Some features require Apple's MobileMe service; fees apply.

  • How to solve iPhone OS 3.1 problems by downgrading back to 3.0.1

I had problems with my battery dying after 15 minutes of use, the phone not waking up from sleep mode, and cell signal problems after downloading OS 3.1 and iTunes 9. The problem couldn't be solved immediately because iTunes 9 deletes your previous iPhone backups on Macs. I successfully restored my phone to the 3.0.1 software (easily) after reading through a bunch of long processes on the Internet and trying a simpler way. Here are the steps:
    1. Find your backup files on your Mac, it should be a cube icon with a name similar to "iPhone1,13.0.1_7A400Restore.ipsw" The numbers after "iPhone1,1_" tell which firmware version it is. My files were in the trash, If you deleted your trash since downloading iTunes 9 it may not be there anymore. You can always do a search in Spotlight to find the backups, in case it's in a different location.
    2. If you don't have this backup on your hard drive because of deleting it, I read that you can download it from the Internet. However, I don't know how safe this part is. Google the term "downgrade iPhone 3.1 to 3.0" to find a site that has the 3.0 firmware.
    3. Once you find or obtain the restore file/firmware, remember it's location or simply drag it to the Desktop to find it quicker. Open iTunes and connect your iPhone. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART is to hold Option (Alt) and Click the Restore button (Without Option-Clicking the Restore button, you will only be able to restore to the 3.1 firmware). This brings up a screen to find the file on your hard drive. Click the backup/firmware from the location that you had to remember or from the Desktop, and your iPhone will restore back to firmware 3.0.1 and not cause your phone to be useless anymore
    Hope this helps.

I forgot to add that the new update 3.1.2 did not help with any of the problems that 3.1.1 did.

  • The only way to fix Xperia P problems after the jelly bean update!

After the jelly bean update my Xperia got slow, I could not answer phone calls, the call log took so much time to appear , I have tried uninstalling external softwares , reseting the phone , nothing worked. Finally I have downgraded the phone follwing the guidelines provided in this link - http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Android-development/GUIDE-How-to-Install-Jelly-Bean-ICS-Ice-Cream-Sand...
Now my phone is fast , gallery is working fine , I can receive phone calls , no useless chrome by default , the google search widget works fast , the overall performance is much better. So I would recommend people to downgrade their Xperia p to ice cream sandwich and stick with it. OLD is GOLD!

What is your build version now after downgrading to ICS? I could not download 6.1.1.B.1.54 from the list which was best to me.. Please let me know quickly, I'm having the same **bleep** problem in JB.

  • Getting SMS back after downgrading?

    Hi
I upgraded my Iphone 3G (not jailbroken) to IOS4. I did not back up the phone before upgrading. The upgrade itself went well and Itunes did a backup of the phone AFTER the upgrade.
Turned out that my phone didn't work to well with the IOS4. It was generally slow and froze and returned to the Home screen after a while whatever I did. So, I wanted to go back to the old OS 3.1.3. After surfing the net I found out how. I managed to downgrade the phone.
Here's the problem. The backup which contains all my data, SMS etc. is made for IOS4 and cannot be used for 3.1.3. I have the backup folder containing everything but it's for the new OS.
Is there any way to work around this? I have tried to copy the SMS-file from the IOS4 backup folder to the 3.1.3 backup folder (that I created after downgrading), but it seems that the strings (or whatever they're called) are different so it does not work.
Is there a program that can extract my SMS'es while the phone is upgraded to IOS4 and put them back into the phone after it's been downgraded to 3.1.3?
Message was edited by: Angry with apple

You can download all the files that are originally on the recovery partition of  MBP that came with Lion pre-installed from the Apple website. Sorry I don't have a link but a google search will turn it up. With that download you can make a bootable USB stick that will get you to the screen where you download and install Lion from the Apple website.
Or you can buy Lion on a USB stick from the Apple Store.

SSince Apple does not support downgrading the iOS I suggest you start a new question that gives a good title to a specific problem. Then in the body of the thread describe the problem in detail, tell us what steps you have tried so far to correct the problem, what happened, and what error messages you received.
