Problem after E61 firmware upgrade

Since I upgraded my firmware last week end a strange thing has happened. When I get a text message or call only the number appears on my phone and not the name of the person calling.
Yes all the incoming communications are from people on my Contact list.
How can I get their names back?

Are you sure that during the backup / restore process you did that no duplicate contacts were added to your phonebook ?

Can you take a screenshot of the pop-up notification?
To take a screenshot hold ⌘ Shift 4 to create a selection crosshair. Click and hold while you drag the crosshair over the area you wish to capture and then release the mouse button. You will hear a "camera shutter" sound. This will deposit a screenshot on your Desktop.
If you can't find it on your Desktop look in your Documents or Downloads folder.
If you want to attach a screenshot to a response here, click the "camera" icon above the text field:
This will display a dialog box which enables you to choose the screenshot file (remember it's on your Desktop) and click the Insert Image button.
⌘ Shift 4 and then pressing the space bar captures the window the cursor is on.

Problem after installing firmware 1.4... please help!

Hi all, i recently upgraded to firmware 1.4 (the recent available version)... and now, every few minutes the fan generates big noises (also generating heats around the speaker area)... i looked into the Activity Monitor and i found that there are some processes that are actually using up >50% CPU usage, but the strange thing is, i wasn't using these softwares at all...
the reason why i said it is a problem with the firmware upgrade is that, this problem didn't happen to me before upgrading.. and beside this upgrade, i didn't install any other software thereafter...
can some body please help me? is there anything i can do? or can i restore the firmware back to the previous version? thanks in advance.

"Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer's firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed.". i've got the fireware 1.4 successfully installed, and i want to restore it back to my previous version...

What is retained after a firmware upgrade

I want to upgrage the firmware on my router. I want to make sure after I install the firmware I restore some settings. If I do a backup of settings before the firmware upgrade and then restore the settings after the firmware upgrade will the SSID and the WEP keys be restored?

No. After every firmware upgrade you are to reconfigure the router manually using no backup files. This is because the new firmware may not handle the old backup file. The backup file is to be used with the firmware it was made from.

Zen Micro undetected, after PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade! *USB 2.0 er

Half way through the PFS?firmware installation, a Found new Hardware window pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. I carried on to install hardware, but it just can't find the suitable software. After I close the pop up, the upgrade installation went dead. The next time i plug my zen micro, the pc can't detect it! The only thing workable is the removable disk. I can't reinstall the software becos the pc cannot detect the zen micro (i tried all usb ports)?Some other info:-Everytime i plug my zen micro in, the Found new Hardware window will pop up, prompt me to install software for USB 2.0 device. Before u tell me it's my chipset problem, i have no problem with other devices that use usb 2.0, and this problem occurs ONLY after i tried installing the firmware, ONLY on zen micro. My zen micro was working PERFECTLY fine before this. -My?zen micro's system information states that the firmware is 2.2.02, though i mentioned earlier that the installation went dead. I am pretty sure this undetection problem is cause by the firmware upgrade. My BB 8520 won't connect via USB after the firmware upgrade

Hi,
All was working fine until I followed the upgrade prompts. The 'phone works but a) it won't accept Opera Mini 5.1 (which was in the 'phone already) and b) I cannot connect to the PC via the USB cord.
What happened?
This 'phone shares the same SIM card with 3 Nokias (E72, E90, E62) and I've never had firmware upgrade problems with them - in Symbian OS.,
Any ideas?

Never heard of this browser before, having used Opera Mini/Mobile (depending upon the 'phone) since 2004. Was on E-Mails for cell 'phones dating back to 1997, coast to coast: primitive service back then! [Rarely did I use the default browser on any 'phone I've had, including Motorola and Palm before Nokia.]
Bolt loaded faster than Opera Mini 5.1 did on my Nokias and the Blackberry 8520: amazing!
Now my "not as good as a Nokia with Symbian" handset is useful again. The firmware upgrade did improve the videos and the links to them, so it was a GAIN SOME FEATURES and LOSE SOME FEATURES firmware upgrade.
Probably Opera will have a link for the Blackberry 5 platform, eventually. The problem, I think, was that the link only worked with three versions of their 4 edition.

PS: Not until the Nokia E90 Communicator was off the market for a year or so, did Opera put out a Mobile browser which functioned on it. The Communicator - in a variety of versions - had a 12 year run in Finland, something of a record for handsets in this field. For Word .docs, fast typing and office style activities, it's hard to beat. (You can't wear one in your pocket if the garment is Spandex, of course.) The music on the E90 is loud and good; with the wireless aux. speakers it rivals a portable stereo, so I use it for that purpose much of the time, even when off-line.

UNreachable VMs after storage firmware upgrade

Hello, recently we upgraded our Dell Equallogic storage to firmware version 7.0.5 from 6.0.4 which according to Dell was fine,
a few of our vms had this error on restarts:
Failed to start the virtual machine.
Failed to power on VM.
Unable to retrieve the current working directory: 5 (Input/output error). Check if the directory has been deleted or unmounted.
Cannot open file "/vmfs/volumes/4f27e917-d4c7f2be-ba46-001d09fd1694/HPCTAMSWEB05/HPCTAMSWEB05.vmx": 5 (Input/output error).
a little background, VMs are version 8 for the most part nearly all running windows 2003/8 server.
dell poweredge blades running 5.5i and of course dell equallogic PS5000/6000/6100 storage arrays via iscsi.
some of our volumes are VMFS3 and some are VMFS5, the failed VMs came from both
The above happened 1 week after the storage upgrade but we also had it happen immediately after the storage upgrade, we didnt shut down any vm prior to upgrading the firmware as we were advised we didnt need to by Dell.
Also we found most of our hosts went into disconnected state and had to be power cycled.
now with the above error we reset the vm then powered it back on and it came up fine.
Just wondering if anyone else had this nightmare?

BUG: text rendering problems after keyboard firmware update

Just letting you know that today, after installing the keyboard/mouse firmware update 1.0, the font rendering in many applications become weird, letters may overlap, see some screenshots:

My system is iMac Intel Core Duo 17", 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Mac OS 10.4.6.

Just to clarify, that was a software update, not a firmware update. I don't think the keyboard has any resident firmware.
Since this is a new update from Apple, and there have been very few posts about problems after it was installed, (I have seen a couple here) I think that you should call and speak directly with an Apple Customer Service rep. That way Apple knows some have issues with the update and they may have suggestions.
Let us know what they say.

Cannot connect to internet after airport firmware upgrade

I bought a new Airport Extreme Base Station, hooked it up, and it worked just fine. Then it asked for a firmware upgrade, which I installed. Now the base station will not connect to the internet. I've tried re-booting my cable modem, re-starting the base station, etc. No luck. Pending an answer to this question, I re-installed my prior Airport Extreme base station, and it worked just fine. It wants me to do a firmware update, but I'm understandably reluctant.

Thanks Chris. One of posts in this thread mentioned the possibility of a corrupt file in the operating system. I reloaded 10.7 using a flash drive I made and then did a hard reset of my Airport Extreme. That solved the problem. I hope this helps.

Weird problem after the last upgrade(10.4.8)

I am using a 1.66mhz MacMini with intelcoreduo. After the last upgrade
2weeks ago. I begun to encounter weird behaviors(those does not happen
all the time, but happens..) from my mac. I'll try to list those
behaviors below:
- trash can sometime can not empty, I have to open the thrashbin and
delete manaually by selecting each file to delete
-finder failing to open a new window.
- when i take screenshot, it only appears when i try to find it over spotlight
- and worst of them all, recent files downloaded on my desktop disappearing sometimes and only way to reach them ise search on finder, when spotlight finds it, it appears back again).
These are all so weird kinda behaviors. I am curious if any of you
having the same problems, or rather these problems has been allready
pointed.

I've seen some of those before but on a G4 Tower, so far never on my Intel Mac Mini.
I've seen screenshots not appear on the desktop until much later or when a new file is brought or created on the desktop. Likewise, I've seen the same behaviour with some files I've downloaded (to a specific downloads folder).
I remember stuffit 9 or 10 had a bug similar to this where when you expanded a an archive it was "empty" until you moved a new file into the folder or made a new file/folder in it, then it would show you the files that were actually in the expanded archive.
Try repairing your permissions and booting from your Mac OS X install disc and running disk repair.

Problem with superdrive firmware upgrade???

When I booted my Macbook today a screen came that offered 3 upgrades. One to iTunes, one a firmware upgrade for the superdrice and one more???
I ran the upgrade and re-booted. The problem is now I get a message with every re-boot saying that there no such drive to be upograded?? And I have to cancel.
Help?

Just go to System Preferences, Accounts, Login Items and select the SuperDrive update and then click the minus in the lower left side of the panel. That will turn it off and keep it from starting each time you start your computer.
Or, you can go into Utilities and drag the SuperDrive Updater icon into the trash. It won't hurt anything, once the update is finished, you don't really need the application anymore, AFAIK.

IPad email problem after version 6 upgrade

My email stopped working after accepting the upgrade to version 6. My settings appear right and everything worked before the upgrade. Any suggestions?

I did that, but the service is intermittent. I never know with any certainty whether or not an email will go through.

24 inch iMac Screen problems after 10.5 upgrade

After upgrading to 10.5 i have had many issues with the display my iMac (white) 24inch Core 2 Duo. I have corruption resulting in horizontal lines across open windows and in some cases on the desktop itself. Some of the button text turns bright green. The iMac in question was purchased with the NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT graphic card upgrade. I have run the 10.5.1 software update and the firmware is all up to date. Has anyone had the same issues? Does anyone have a fix? Help please.

If your iMac keeps on freezing it could be a hard ware problem, the first thing to do is run Apple Hardware Test on your iMac.

Lip Sync Problem AFTER LG Firmware Update on some HD Channels

I have an LG HDTV, model number 47LH90, and I'm experiencing lip sync issues even after they gave me a firmware update to solve the problem.
I've noticed the problem appears to be most prevalent on the History HD channel. Most other channels seem fine now following the firmware update from LG. Any reason why this is happening? I have a couple thoughts to add for Verizon personnel:
1) The Motorola STB/DVR I have from Verizon let's me choose my output as 720p, 1080i, etc. It would be nice if it would also allow a pass-through option to just be whatever input the feed is. For example, sometimes I wonder if this issue is because the DVR is trying to take 1080i input to the STB and convert it to 720p output to the TV, which somehow changes data lengths and results in some lip sync issue.
2) I have a PlayStation3 that I bought to use mainly as a Blu-Ray player. The PlayStation Audio/Video to my TV using the HDMI cable works great, with no lip sync on Blu Rays, Hulu, games, etc. I know this lip sync is sometimes more prevalent on LG TV's, but it would seem to me that if PlayStation's can produce lip sync-free content, surely FIOS can too. Perhaps they could upgrade their hardware and use the latest standards.
3) I'm using the same make/quality/length HDMI cables on my PlayStation3 and STB, HDMI 1.3a.
I would love to see some updates that address this issue as soon as possible.

Thanks for the suggestion. My problem actually seems to go away when the show is recorded versus live, at least sometimes, but not always. Although, I've found that stopping playback, then resuming, or similar behavior can help the problem as well. I just want my TV to work without having to throw salt over my shoulder.

E61 Firmware Upgrade: No Upgrade Available??

Hi, I have an E61 which was purchased in August last year. The product code is 0530758. The current software version is 1.0610.04.04, dated 19-04-04. When I try to upgrade, I am told that there is no upgrade available for this product code. Any ideas?

I have the same problem too. Yesterday I just flashed a E61 phone from version firmware 2.0618.06.05 to firmware 3.0633.09.04 and now today I'm trying to do the exactly same thing for another phone and Updater says that there is no software available...? They are unbranded phones. I'm getting aggraveted.
