Ical problems after last mac os x update 10.5.5
yesterday, 2008-09-18 I Installed "Mac OS X Update" (10.5.5) and after that both accounts on my mac mini are having problems syncing to mobile me, getting some old versions of appointments, and taking a very long time to sync.
anybody else? what is going on?I'm having the "old version of appointments" problem you speak of. I never had a problem until 10.5.5 and now suddenly I have old appointments popping up all over the place, and I can't remember which ones are the "good" ones and which are the old ones! This is happening on calendars that are being published. It almost looks like it's trying to subscribe to an old calendar and publish the new ones. I hope there is a fix soon though because I'm bound to mess up an appointment because of it!

i have updated my MacBook 2010 EFI to MB71.0039.B0E which is 2.1 version
after updating to this version the Boot time become much slower when i want to change boot partition
and shutdown become very much slower and startup too
i tried to install Mac OS X Lion again but it doesnt help
can i downgrade to this version 2.0 ???
or when Apple will release the new version ?
or where can i send a feedback regarding this issues !!!!

Is there a way of finding out weather my mac has the Mac OS X 10.7.3 Supplemental Update installed ?
I can't see it in the Installed Software section of Software Update.
I Tried to install the update.

Because I am unable to see it in the Installed Software section of Software Update.
I am also unable to install the Mac OS X 10.7.3Supp.dmg file.
I click on the file and it opens a dialog box saying it is Verifying.
It then opens up a window in the background.

When I Double Click the the icon, it comes up with the dialog window to install the update.
When I get to the step where I select where I want the file to be installed, this domes up:
What does this mean ?

Mac OS X v10.7.5 Supplemental Update 1.0
I installed Mac OS X v10.7.5 Supplemental Update 1.0 a few days ago, which said (amongst other things) that it was to improve TimeMachine Backup times... yet, previously it was estimated to complete in 2 days, yet since the install the estimate is now 99 days...
Not sure that it is a great improvement (although this is an initial sync)The supplemental update did address the 'slow' Time Machine backups under 10.7.5 - if this is your first backup, and depending on how much data you are backing up, I would guess that it could take 6-9 hours, but certainly not 2 (or 99) days. If it seems that the backup is 'hung' just stop it, reformat the external drive, and try again. For some great Time Machine troubleshooting tips, see http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html.

LG 22-inch monitor won't function properly after last Mac OS X Update
My new LG 22-inch monitor was working great until I received the last Mac OS X Update (10.4.9). I received this update after installing Tiger (better late than never...ha ha) and after I restarted my system, I saw multiples of the same files on my desktop, and when I would open a window, four duplicate windows would appear (this did not happen until after the update). The only thing that corrects the problem is to go into System Preferences => Displays and change the monitor resolution. But even after I Click to Lock Changes, I have to go in and do this every time I launch my system. I was so vexed that I hooked up the former monitor (Apple CRT, 17 inch) and now the same thing is happening to it! Sigh... I am no Mac Genuis, but I know someone out there can offer some advice! These warnings are accurate but according to Apple can safely be ignored. See Mac OS X 10.5: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore. IOW, They are not normally problems.

You do have partitions & a partition scheme. To check what the scheme is, click on +the drive itself+ in the list on the left in Disk Utility. It will probably be identified as "298,1 GB WDC WD3200AAJS-40VWA0 Media" or something very similar. If it contains the startup disk, it will be the first item in the list. It will have one or more named volumes indented under it, such as "Macintosh HD."
When you have clicked on the WDC drive instead of a volume name indented under it, you should see seven items of information about it at the bottom of Disk Utility's window, to the right of an icon representing the drive. The info is in two columns. The last item in the rightmost column, below the S.M.A.R.T. Status (which should say "Verified"), should be "*Partition Map Scheme :* " & be followed by the scheme type. It should be "GUID Partition Table."
If you don't see the seven info items after selecting the drive, it may indicate a problem that needs attention, but I suspect that you just haven't looked in the right place for the info....
As for the 'cannot install' message, make sure that you have downloaded the right update, that it is not the server update version for example. You may need to download it again, discarding the first download as somehow defective. -
Kernel Panic Error after last MAC OSX update
Hi all,
My first post here.
Last week, after install the last update of MAC OSX on my intel IMac (last of 2009), when the computer was restarting, a kernel error screen appears...
I've launched the safe mode, and the computer starts fine and I've execute the disk utility to repair HDD and rights. I've done the same initializing from the installation DVD, but the kernel error appears again...
I leave only the usb apple keyboard plugged, and I don't understand why this error still happening, and of course why it occurs after a MAC OSX standard update (no new hardware or software installed in the las month).
I'm little desperate with this issue
kernel error.

One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

[solved - faulty hardware]nvidia - serious problems after last update
I'm trying to fix this for 3 days now...
After last nvidia update i rebooted and my screen looked like this:

So I googled a bit, tried to create a new xorg.conf with nvidia-xconfig, tried several things in xorg.conf but nothing worked. A downgrade to previous version failed. I was fed up with it and restored a backup from the week before and.....got also this messed up screen.
I even get some strange stripes/distortion in BIOS splash screen now or when I boot from a live-cd:

Next day I added a "Mode Section" to xorg.conf and everything seemed to work again - until the screen turned off because of inactivity (no suspend or hibernate), I moved the mouse and everything was f**** up again.
As things are now: I have this strange distortion in my BIOS-bootscreen. When X starts this messed up screen from the screenshot appears. I can switch to a console. If I switch to runlevel 3 and immediately back to runlevel 5 I get an apparently working desktop. But the windows don't redraw, the program windows won't refresh if I move them around. Everything looks strange and so on.
I played around with xorg.conf, loaded some Modules, tried several depths and resolutions, added a modeline, nothing. Reinstalled nvidia in runlevel 3, tried the nv-driver (brought up black screen with some red pixels, system only reacted on magic sysrequest..). Vesa driver works (resolution 800x600)...I also wanted to boot from 2 Knoppix CD's floating around here but they both came up with a black screen, at the other hand a Clonezilla live-cd is working (with 800x600 and 1024x768 and this distorted pixels, see second screenshot from above).
Is it possible that my VGA Bios is corrupted or something? I suppose this because of the distortion in the boot screen...A guy in the german archforum gave me the advice to look if
dmesg | grep -e mtrr -e MTRR
produces any output - it does not.

There seems to be a known problem all the way back to the start of 180.51 driver series. But the weird thing is the previous version(180.44) had no problems whatsoever.
Also, my logs never showed this other error they were clamouring about...
[mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop.

Adamant that a hardware failure at this point is too coincidental, I attempted first installing nvidia-beta and nvidia-utils-beta from aur as suggested by the post. Then, I tried downgrading the to the previous nvidia. Then, the previous kernel. The same thing keeps happening albeit with weird frequencies. There were times when it could last well over 5 hours, even on wesnoth. However, the thing that usually broke it is firefox loading with the usual 150+ tabs. This puzzled me even more. The graphic card isn't even related to this. Maybe its ram? Went on ram swapping spree again to no avail.
A couple of reboots later, weird graphical distortions appeared right after BIOS. Then it really hit upon me that this had to be a hardware problem! It was only when I fiddled desperately with the bios settings when I noticed that my Northbridge/chipset fan is spinning at 0rpm! Opened up the case and sure enough, its dead. I hacked and replaced it from my old AMD cpu's fan. Funny, my intel CPU fan just died a while back. Replaced it with the chasis fan. Can't be bothered to shop for these.....
Still, I booted up, thinking the bug will still be there since the chipset supposedly has nothing to do with graphics problem. To my surprise, it's totally gone! Elated yet puzzled, I sought out trying to rationalize the whole event. Afterall, it's only through understanding these that one is able to troubleshoot effectively. A quick search on google on the northbridge yields the answer. In fact, the northbridge does have something to do with the graphic card. It acts as an interface for high speed devices. No wonder firefox caused it to crash too!
Lessons learnt
If the frequency of crashes seems too random, consider that it might be a hardware overheat failure. This can easily explain why "the next morning everything works fine".
If weird stuff happens outside of the OS, eg. while rebooting, it's most likely is a hardware failure.
should be a big coincidence if the card dies because of heat problems in the second I updated?
It really isn't such a big coincidence. This depends on the frequency of your updates. Most people update every week or even every few days.

[NEARLY SOLVED] font rendering in gtk apps problem after last upgrade
Im' using KDE, cairo-lcd, libxft-lcd... my fonts looked beautifully, but now they look horrible...
After last upgrade my gtk apps (firefox, thunderbird) render fonts in an ugly way...

Really, *most* of the problems that people find in Linux's fonts are just because they are used to the awful default fonts from Windows XP. Yes, people can even get used to those fonts and believe they're good!!! And when they see correct fonts in Linux they think they're bad...
What I would do is remove the MS TTF fonts. They work bad in Windows and worse in Linux. You should use Bitstream Vera or DejaVu if you want good quality fonts (especially in web pages).
But, then again, you might think that they look wrong just because you're not used to it... Oh, well...
What does correct font / correct spacing mean ?
IMO, that doesn't make any sense, because that's a totally subjective matter, like many other things in this world.
BTW, I love how fonts look in Windows, and I think that must be the only thing MS got right. Thus, I'm using ms fonts in linux, and a rendering as close as possible (no autohinting or antialiasing or subpixel rendering).
Similarly, I could find a woman beautiful that you would find ugly or just average. We are all different, and it's better that way -

After upgrading to this firmware, I was faced with two rather irritating problems.
1) I've made a backup of the phone. After upgrading the FW, I restored the backup. Now, when I power up the phone, it says "Installing" after it boots up. Then, after a couple of seconds it says "Untrusted software found on memory card, install manually blah-blah". I installed all but one of these "untrusted" files, but I cannot remove from the list one which I no longer need. Application manager is set to allow all aplications and never check certificates online. Question is how to remove this sis file which I no longer need and which is, probably, causing this to happen.
And a mental note to Nokia, if they ever bother to read this - don't try to make the phone smarter than it should be - if I say I want to allow installation of all software, do not bother me with "untrusted" stuff.
2) a bigger problem is that service commands do not work. Tried entering them on the standby screen and from messaging/options, same thing happens. The phone says it's "requesting" the wanted data, but no reply from my service operator appears on the screen. It's not a probem with the operator, as other phones work correctly28-May-200710:23 PM

I have problem too, after last update my N80 my national language (czech) was delete, and next problem with untrusted software I have too -
Display problems after installing 10.5.2 and the leopard graphics update
Shortly after installing the leopard graphics update, my display started exhibiting problems.
The next day, the powerbook wouldn't even boot, just leaving me at a blue screen.
I tried verifying permissions and verifying disk, reinstalling leopard and eventually did a fresh install of Tiger, which boots, but crashes frequently and has graphics corruption as visible in this screenshot:

The same corruption is visible on a second monitor if I connect one.
The timing (being right after installing the graphics update) suggests that the update somehow caused this problem (flashing the video card firmware maybe?) but any ideas at all are very welcome at this point!
Unfortunately after installing Tiger I kept getting updates, and one has broken the ability to boot normally, I can only boot in safe modeI have the same problem. It happened right after I installed the graphics update. When the computer restarted, my screen went crazy. I couldn't see anything, just a screen full of horizontal lines. After restarting a couple of times it seemed to go away, but it has begun to happen again recently. although not as bad yet. I am not saying it's not a logic board issue, but it does seem funny that more than one person is experiencing the same type of problem after the graphics update. I guess it's time to take a trip to the apple store.

Dual screen problems after last updates
Hello everyone,
it was long time since our Arch gave me some problems, but then now I'm fighting furiously with dual screen configuration with new gnome. Let me explain.
I upgraded the home PC that I hadn't update for months, so I updated more or less everything ... kernel, nvidia drivers, gnome, etc..
The PC has always been dual screen (no twin view, without xinerama), two screens (one on a LCD monitor and one on a TV) where I could run separate applications independent.
Now, after the update, when I launch any application in the second screen (the TV) it starts on the first (screen).
Obviously I have't made any changes to xorg.conf before and after the upgrade. I also tried to recreate one with the nvidia-tools but nothing ...
Can you help me? Someone had the same problem?
I post my xorg.conf, I hope that someone has a hint. I can no longer watching movies on TV and it is very annoying!

Writing the post a tried to install fluxbox, and then... all ok. In fluxbox all works fine. I think this is a problem related to the new gnome screen configurer.
I post an image of gnome screen configurer vs nvidia-tools.
Googling around I found that new gnome screen configuration (using xrandr) is not compatible with nvidia drivers. Could be this the source of the problem?

Reconnect problems after last updates
After installing the last updates the Microsoft Remote Desktop programm cannot reconnect anymore.
For example: i open a RDP connection. Close the cover of my MacBook Pro, wait 5 minutes an open it again. In the past the connection was re-established without any problem. After installing the last two updates the RDP session freezes and give a time-out.
When i close the failed session and open a new one. The connection works fine. Also when i close all sessions before i close the cover of my Macbook Pro, i can connect fine. On my older Macbook (without the updates) i still can reconnect (as before).
Maybe any setting i can change to fix this issue ?Hi,

Windows 7 boot problems after partitioning Mac Disc
Hi
I got a big Problem. I installed Windows 7 with Bootcamp. I have a 600Gb Mac Partition and a 150Gb Bootcamp Partition.
After Configuring Windows, I switched to the Mac OSX Snow Leopard System. I changed the Main Partition of 600Gb into 3 smaller ones. After this change I can't boot Windows 7 anymore. With the Option Key it doesn't show me the Bootcamp Partition. In the Sys. Preferences under Startup Disk it show me the Windows on Bootcamp Partition, but when I click restart, it shows me only the No System Disk Boot black screen.
I read a bit in the forum, but I haven't found the problem yet.

What you did is not supported. I know XP can't boot unless it is partition #4 or lower.
There is 200MB GPT, 128MB EFI, HFS+ 600GB would have been 3rd but GPT is zero, only now you have three where there was one.
Manage all partitions with Disk Utility in OS X
Check partition table health in Lion's Disk Utility
