Problem after uninstalling Firefox 4

I installed Firefox 4 and learned it was not compatible with Skype. So I uninstalled Firefox and now my internet connection is messed up badly...when I click on desktop shortcuts I'd made before, I'm told they're not registered. I want to install the earlier Firefox version. Is this possible???

The problem is Firefox 4. I have two PC's with one XP OS, the other Win7.
Only problem on XP is the search drop down options do not work when clicked on. I too have nvidia drivers on this PC.
However on the Win7 OS, with MSE and MS firewall, the PC freezes regularly and is unresponsive for several minutes.
Mozilla recommend running browser in safe mode after turning off all add ons and then reintroducing one by one until the culprit is discovered!! People have tried doing as suggested without finding a solution.
You have probably noticed there are numerous topics about this problem in Google. What is clear is that people have various different set ups but that the one connecting factor is the change to Firefox 4.
Instead of telling us what the problem might be with our set ups, and asking us to waste substantial time on work a rounds, perhaps Mozilla should look at Firefox 4 and tell us why it is causing the problems?

When uninstalling Firefox, it asked me if I wanted to delete my bookmarks, etc. I clicked in the check box to delete them, but after a couple days, I realized I should have saved them. Someone told me there is probably a temp folder that is hidden somewhere for just this reason. Can anyone help me get my bookmarks back please? Oh yea, my OS is Vista and I have reinstalled Firefox 3.6.8

You can try with an undelete program like Recuva if you can restore a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

Problem after uninstall

after uninstall i have a problem,in the list of periphears i have a !yellow that says :"Controller del bus di gestione sistema" that i can traslate like this "Bus controller of the management system" ...it looks there is a driver that is not recognized.
i try to reinstall the last pc nokia suite,and using a irda port everything is ok with the phone but the messager error remains.
I try to clean the system with the nokia utility but nothing.
I try to reinstall also cable driver (non neccessary beacuse i used irda but before i used it...
i don't know,what drive is needed or how to remove...any ideas?

ok,i have loaded a backup of the system at a point before to uninstal,
in the order i have now unistalled again:
pc suite
another nokia program
cable driver
i have rebboted the pc and at the restart win xp looks for a driver of a "ghost" drivers...
so the problem is on the PCsuite.
The same problem has got a mine friends,he had problems in connections with his nokia,so he unistalled pc suite and he retryed to install,and the problem was the same: a ghost periphear,driver needed but what driver???also in his computer at the end,aftre reinstall pcsuite (the last,same windows) the phone went well and there are not problems using pcsuite but the !yellow remains.
what cani i do???id like to understand what driver is missing,or how to remove manually with reg edit the key on the regitry that shows !yellow.

How can I retreve bookmarks after uninstalling firefox

My husband uninstalled firefox due to it crashing. In the process it looks like all my years and years worth of bookmarks have gone. He installed the latest version of firefox which is working fine. But I cant find/import any old bookmarks. I didn't back them up, but from what I have read firefox does back them up automatically. Please help me. I will be lost without them. I have done a system restore but it didn't help.

Thank you very very much. He had deleted all data! I had not heard of that software before. So I downloaded the free version, ran it, searched for bookmark and the JSON file appeared. I recovered it and restored it very very simply.

When I uninstalled firefox i checked the delete history/bookmarks box by accident and now all my bookmarks are gone. is there any way of restoring them from before i uninstalled firefox?

Did you remove the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder as well?
It is better to try to recover a JSON backup because that is a text file and can easily be checked if the recovery succeeded.

Problem with uninstalling firefox

I have tried several ways to uninstall firefox and also am running a scan w/ microsoft live onecare for viruses etc.
Cannot use unintall in control panel, cannot use direct use of uninstall in program files, cannot use uninstaller from my computer, or uninstaller from cccleaner. When I tried to get to mozilla support through chrome, a black page came up and then I was blocked to get to support. Only through private session in explorer am I here. I had downloaded chrome but later found that my previous installation would not open. I had to download again.

Following your instructions for fixing problems after downloading firefox 4 made it completely unusable, not even able to connect for feedback.

Win 7 After uninstalling Firefox from Control Panel, "The action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program"

Update failed numerous times. Uninstalled FF using Control Panel. Followed instructions to delete the Mozilla folder from AppData/Local/Mozilla. Then the "Folder in Use" prompt comes up and I have to cancel the delete. Folder was created 4/8/2011, but I can't find the folder using the search command. Can't install a fresh install of Firefox 18. Using Windows 7 64-bit. I no longer have FireFox on my system that I can see.

Okay, I drilled down further:
Specifically, the files I cannot delete are:
     A driver with the following location:
          Program Files > Common Files > Apple > Internet Services > ShellStreams.resources > en.lproj >ShellStreamsLocalized.dll
     And a driver with the following location:
           Program Files > Common Files > Apple > Internet Services > ShellStreams64.dll

What to do with numerous problems after downloading Firefox 4:

multiple copies... tried to trash, some won't go into trash or app folder in dock;
can't go to link using Tweetdeck with message that more than one copy open;
now can't find icon anywhere except spotlight but don't know how to get one good version of Firefox to be where it's supposed to be; question mark in dock;
circle with diagonal line (x2) in app folder;
major problem: can't find live tech support or specific literature for direction;

You're doing it right, however: Depending on the application I find it unnecessary to put non-essential files in the Application folder. It is often enough just to put the actual app in the Apps folder. If you archive the .dmg file in a downloads/installers folder in your Home folder, as I do, then you can always access the other misc. files again if ever necessary. It's neater that way, and when the latter folder becomes large I just burn it to disc, file it away somewhere and empty the folder to clear space.

Problems after uninstalling Acrobat 10

I recently installed and then uninstalled a trial version of Acrobat 10. Now when I try to make a pdf in Acrobat 9, I get an error message that the distiller cannot find a file in an Acrobat 10 folder (which has been deleted). How can I get the distiller in 9 to work again. I already tried uninstalling and re-installing it, as well as running it in repair mode. Nothing seems to work.

Sorry to hear about the trouble. We've heard some reports of similar issues with files not opening after the 11.0.01/10.1.5/9.5.3 updates were installed. I would suggest uninstalling Acrobat, the reinstalling and patching up to 10.1.4 again as an immediate solution.
To help us figure out what may be going with your particular files, could you open one in Acrobat and choose File > Properties. I'd like to know what it says next to the PDFProducer and Application lines.

Yesterday I upgraded my system (pacman -Syu) and there was a Firefox upgrade with your language pack (firefox-i18n-ca 18.0-1) but Firefox is in English. Someone know what happen? How can I resolve this issue?

Download the jpatufet correct version of xpi (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/msfvi8a0uk6cche/-UW-Jjzaq3) and copy in /usr/lib/firefox/extensions/
