Problem after upgrading ram in macbook pro 5,3 to 8gb

Hello.
I was trying to help my friend, to upgrade his macbook pro 5.3's memmory, from 4 gb to 8 gb.
We bought the cm3x8gsdkit1066:
Memory Configuration     Dual Channel
Memory Type                    DDR3
Package - Memory Pin     204
Speed Rating                    PC3-8500 (1066MHz)
Package - Memory FormatSODIMM
http://www.corsair.com/en/memory-by-product-family/value-select-memory-upgrades/ cm3x8gsdkit1066.html
As i see this, the memmory, should be fine, and suported, and the macbook accepts 8 gb as a max.
When the computer boots, it beeps 3 times, waits, and repeat it. I found this as a error code for the ram?
So my problem, what can i do to solve this problem? The macbook accepts the old ram, and boots up fine.
Best regards
Christian Holm

It may be that the RAM is not compatible or faulty for some reason.  Have you tried to install it again just to make certain that it is seated correctly.  If still no success, I would return it and get RAM from Crucial or OWC.  They are the two vendors of failsafe Mac RAM.
Ciao.
8 Gb RAM for the mid 2009 MBP should cost about $50.  If you paid the price on the link,  you paid too much.

  • HP P1006 DOES NOT PRINT after upgrading to a Macbook Pro 15 i7

HP P1006 does not work after upgrading to a Macbook Pro 15 i7 2,6 with Mac OS 10.6.3
I have used Time Machine to migrate from my previous MBP 15 C2D.
I've tried to remove the printer in system pref. and install it again.
The installer works fine but close to the end of the installation a new app is starting: HP Laserjet Firmware Update Utility, which won't start and just stays jumping at the dock, although the HP Installer succeeds to finish installing.
So when i try to print, the printer stays idle.
I have tried to download the installer from HP official website. Same story.
Also tried to do Permission Repair in Disk Utility
Please, if anyone knows a solution, help!

After the 4th try of Installing the software it finally worked!
    Thanks anyway!

  • Frequent Crashes after upgrading to ML (Macbook Pro 15" 2010)

I have been experiencing numerous, frequent crashes ever since upgrading my computer (Macbook Pro, 15", 2010 model) to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard. The crashes appear to be very random; they don't happen at startup and aren't associated with any particular application or action. For example, I once experienced a crash while opening a file in VLC. After restarting, I was able to use VLC without any problems, and instead experienced  a crash when opening a bookmark in Safari (which wasn't a problem earlier). In all cases, the screen turns black for a second and then the computer forcibly restarts.
Below I have pasted the details of the error report that the computer wants to send to Apple. I've had nearly 20 of these since upgrading on Wednesday night, and I don't know if they are all the same. But hopefully someone can help me here; I don't know how to interpret this log in order to pinpoint what is causing the problem. This looks a lot like the "kernel panics" that others have reported, but I just don't know what that means or how to fix it.
Also, I ran Software Update and am currently up-to-date.
    Thanks so much,
    Anthony

  • Problems upgrading RAM for Macbook Pro 13" late 2011

First, thank you all for your assistance.
I don't know if this has happened to anyone yet. I have a 13" late 2011 MacBook Pro that came with a default 4 GB of RAM. I considered upgrading to 8 GB and problems arose: I had stripes 1 inch in lenght distributed across the screen. I've done some research and saw that it was a hardware problem with the Graphics Card/GPU. I switched back to the original 4 GB and so far so good, no problems. I did notice a few key things:
Originally I have 384 MB of Video Ram in the GPU
While using the 8 GB Ram upgrade, it said 512 (called my attention)
It reverted to 384 when switching to the original RAM
In the tech specs section of Apple Support site about my machine, it says that the Video RAM is "shared" with main memory. No other knowledge on that.
Could the RAM upgrade affected the memory supported by the GPU? Why did it increase? Is there any solution to this?
    Thanks to everybody in advance.

It should - I've 16GB of RAM installed in my late 2011 15" and my built-in card now shows 512MB of VRAM. There might have been a problem with the RAM you installed. I would only buy Crucial, Kingston (not the 'value' brand), OWC or Corsair (again, not the 'value' brand).
Some RAM sellers simply have less than stellar performance using Macs. Make sure that you install the correct speed and specs as recommended by Apple.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Problem Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro (one of the first MacBook Pros) It originally came with 512 RAM. I upgraded my RAM by buying and installing 2 1GB Banks of Crucial RAM, I followed some instructions that I found online (both video and written) and the installation seemed to go fine - the laptop rebooted fine and it seemed to be working fine. When I click on the apple it shows the memory as being 2GB. However, every once in a while my laptop now automatically reboots and one time the screen went completely grey. Obviously I've done something wrong. Any troubleshooting advice would be appreciated.

put in your original install disk.
start the machine, while holding down command d
this will put you into the hardware test.
    run the extended version.
this will check the integrity of all your hardware, including your ram.

  • Scanning problems with Canon Pixma 5300 series after upgrading to newest Macbook Pro

Are there drivers available for Canon pixma 5300 series for OS X Mavericks 10.9?
Scanning with my brand new Macbook pro using  OS X 10.9 just isn't working like it used to with my old white Macbook.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have an MG53xx? If so, then a scanner driver for this model is available from Apple so that you can scan with Image Capture / Preview. So if you open Printers and Scanners and select the MG53xx, you should have two tabs - Print and Scan.
Canon also has a scanning application called MP Navigator available from their web site. To use this application you will also need to download and install the scanner driver for the MG53xx, which should also be available from the same Canon web site.

  • Trying to upgrade RAM on Macbook Pro 15" (Mid-2010).

Hi I have a Macbook Pro 6,2 (Mid 2010 / 15-inch) with an intel core i7 processor 2.66GHz, and I recently tried to upgrade my 4GB RAM to an 8GB RAM, after making sure online and from the tech specs that my computer can handle 8GB. Whenever I startup after installing the 8GB it stays stuck at the Apple logo startup screen, but when I put my old 4GB RAM back in it starts up normally, anyone know why?

Since it works when you use Apple's RAM, the problem is most likely the RAM you were sold. Unfortunately, all RAM isn't created equal so the vendor is an important part of the equation, both selling RAM that actually works with Macs and standing behind their product when it doesn't. This vendor does both.
See if you can get your money back.

  • After upgrading to Mavericks, macbook pro very slow

    Hiya
I upgraded to Mavericks and ever since then my macbook pro is very slow.
When I try to open a new finder window, I get the rainbow ball. Chrome is extremely slow. Word is also slow to open, slow to wake, and slow to shut down. Pretty much everything is slow!
I did repair permissions using disk utility, but that didn't solve the problem.
I ran EtreCheck and here's what I got:

  • Problems after upgrading RAM......why??

I recently installed after market memory (2 G) in my Macbook but as soon as I installed the memory my Mac started performing very weird, for example, it would freeze, the mouse would act funny, etc.
At first I thought I got bad Ram but as soon as upgraded the firm ware, everything looks OK for now
Is this a common problem in Macbooks when upgrading from 512 to 2 G or should I still be concern about this after market Ram?
    thanks

Is the RAM recognized by the system? I would make sure it is properly seated. It does take considerable effort to get them in there. My thumbs were sore after installing my RAM.
Also, download and run Memtest. Be sure to have your MacBook plugged in when running the test as it will deplete your battery if you do not.

  • Problem installing 512mb RAM in Macbook Pro.

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me, I have checked other posts and nobody seems to have the exact problem that I have after installing RAM.
I installed a Crucial 512mb module in my Macbook Pro which already had a factory installed 512mb module in one slot.
First time the Mac started up ok but it did not recognise that extra RAM had been installed. I reseated the crucial module and the Mac would not start, just a pulsing power light and a black screen.
I installed one module at a time and the Mac booted correctly with both the Crucial Ram abd the RAM it shipped with.
When I put in both Modules it will not boot, I switched the slots and made sure that modules were inserted correctly but no joy.
Sorry for being so long winded!
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks guys,
It just seems odd that both modules are working correctly when they are installed on their own and there is no boot when they are installed together.
As you stated it may be that the specs are different but I checked and all the info seems the same.
I'll just go ahead and send it back to Crucial for a replacement.
    Thanks again.

  • Upgrade ram on macbook pro 2010

I have bought two different brands (G.Skill and PNY) of ram for my Macbook Pro 13.3 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (2010) trying to upgrade from 4GB to 8GB  and both are not working.  Meaning I followed the exact instructions, didn't touch the Gold and installed it the way I was supposed to.  When I turn it on, it freezes.  When I put the old memory in ( 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 ) it starts up fine.  The new memory is 1066. . .could that be the problem?  I've gone through two "ram finders" where you put in the different specs of the Macbook and it's brought up the exact same ones each time.  The brand I got this time, PNY, said it was Mac Compatible.  What am I doing wrong?  And do I need the exact same brand that's already in my Macbook (Samsung) or is there a different brand that will be comparable?
    Thanks.

It is always advisable to use the same brand for both the memory chip.
As you wrote you have one RAM stick from PNY and other from G.Skill that may be the cause of problem.
Buy both the RAM chip of same brand.
    Hope that helps.

  • Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro

    Hi folks,
My boss wanted to upgrade his MBP 15" 2.4 GHz's 2GB RAM to 4 GB. I went to the Apple store for help, and was told they only work on fried RAM - but they sold me the memory module and showed me the step by step guide.
We followed the step by step guide to the letter, but now that the new memory is installed, it's only recognizing one slot. When we run system profiler, it comes back with the message
BANK 0/DIMM0 Empty Empty Empty Empty
    BANK 0/DIMM1 2 GB DDR3 1067 MHz OK
The same thing happens even if we switch the slots that the RAM is going into - and when we reseat the original memory sticks, it only recognizes 1 GB.
Could we have caused the slot itself to go bad? Is there some sort of diagnostic I can run on it without having to take it back to the store, to see if it is the slot? ...if it is, dare I ask how difficult it is to get fixed and how much it tends to cost?
    Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have the same problem when trying to update my memory in my MacBook Pro. I installed the new 2x 2GB memory cards and it does not matter which slot I put the memory in the MacBook Pro will not boot when both cards are populated. I removed the 1 GB card that was in slot 1, I installed both 2x 2GB cards and the system would not boot. I removed the card in slot 0 and the system booted and showed that I have 2GB in slot 1. I then tried to insert the original 1 GB card in slot 1 for a total of 3GB the MacBook Pro again would not boot. I swapped the cards around thinking that there may be some order in which the memory needed to be installed. Again this did not work either. I verified that both slots worked, if I install the memory in slot 0 with slot 1 empty the MacBook Pro boots, if I install the memory in slot 1 with slot 0 empty the MacBook Pro boots. The question is, is their anything that is required for the MacBook Pro to recognized that I have memory in both slots at the same time and boot successfully. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • X220 Problems after upgrade to Win 8 Pro

     Hi all,
Two weeks ago I upgraded OS on my ThinkPad X220 (model 428759G, BIOS 1.37) to Windows 8 Pro X64. After upgrade I did “factory reset” (function of Windows 8), because I preferred clean installation.
Then there were installed all updates via Windows Update service. After that I installed drivers and software from Lenovo via Lenovo System Update and Avira Antivirus Premium 2013.
Now I deal with the a few problems.
    1) Every day (several times a day) this service C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Mobile Hotspot\LnvHotSpotSvc.exe stops working. More information is below (sorry for Czech language).

    2) From this webpage http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77280 I downloaded and installed the Hotkey Features Integration (version 3.84.1500). But not all of FN keys work properly.
For example Fn+F8 doesn’t switch off touchpad or trackpoint, FN+F5 doesn’t switch off Bluetooth or WiFi – only both of them are switched off (via Airplane mode in Windows 8). If I want to switch off Bluetooth I can do it via controls in Windows 8. But I don’t understand why Bluetooth light is still on.
    3) Sometimes if laptop is woke up from sleep or hibernation mode, the system service ntoskrnl.exe (NT Kernel & System) uses CPU with 30% (fan is on high speed).  Only restart fixes this problem.
    Does anyone have similar problems?

Mobile hotspot error confirmed (but not important for me ).
Keys are working fine for me. BUT: I use old driver for Windows 7. The new one from January, 18th with Windows 8 look works as you described.
Btw. I dont like Bios - express card witn USB 3.0 NEC  PD720200a is not working at all.

  • Upgrading ram in Macbook pro 2 Model 8,3

I want to upgrade the RAM in my Early 2011 macbook Pro. I already purchased it. I bought CORSAIR 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600). When I go to Apple's site to see how to install it says I can't put more than 8GB in this machine.I went to Corsair's site and plugged in the model etc. this memory came up as being compatible.  I'm very confused. The Apple specs say this model supports up to 8GB. Does that mean in each slot or total. I will loose $ if I have to return these, but I don't want to harm my computer.

    Glad I could help.

  • Upgrading RAM on MacBook Pro 13" to 1 Slot of 4Gb RAM

    Please help,
I want to upgrade my MacBook Pro's RAM. Currently I have 2Gb of RAM, one 1Gb on the top slot and another one 1Gb in the bottom slot. I want to upgrade to 4Gb of RAM so that I only use one 4Gb on the top slot.
    TechSpecs:
    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,5
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 3 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: MBP55.00AC.B03

I thought if I was only going to use 1 module, I should put it in the bottom slot.
It doesn't matter which slot you put it in. If you put it in the bottom slot, you won't have to remove it first if you decide to add a second one later. But why on earth would you choose not to use both slots now, when you have modules to put in both? 5GB of RAM is better than 4GB.
