Problem: airport extreme connects to network, but does not communicate

I have been able to communicate via wireless networks using my airport extreme-enabled iBook G4... that is, until Thursday. (Or about Thursday... maybe it was Wednesday. Somewhere around then.)
Now I can connect to a wireless network, but I am unable to communicate across the connection. ping fails. Web sites don't load--it appears the DNS lookup fails. Curiously, if I look at the network activity in the Activity Monitor I see a bunch of little bits of data getting sent and received, generally in the range of 20-100 bytes per second, though there is no obvious need for network activity. (Maybe my computer is attempting to get DNS info and such?) When things were working previously, a quiet system meant no network activity.
Further muddying the waters, I can connect and communicate via wireless networks I had not connected to prior to Thursday. Today I went to three different wireless hotspots I had not connected to before, and was able to connect and communicate--everything worked fine at all three. But if I connect to any wireless networks I had previously connected to before Thursday, I get the problem I describe above.
I did not knowingly make any networking changes on Thursday. I did, however, run Disk Utility's "Repair file permissions" around that time, due to problems with iTunes 7. Today I ran "Repair disk" in Disk Utility but no problems were found or fixed.
My best guess is that some airport settings were corrupted for existing wireless networks on my computer sometime on Thursday, and this corrupted data is persisting. However, I have not been able to identify where that data would be.
I deleted com.apple.airport.preferences.plist and NetworkInterfaces.plist in /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration, but that didn't fix the problem. (Of course, when Mac OS recreated these files it could have been from corrupted cached data, I suppose.)
Dial-up access works fine.
One last thing, I'm getting the following error message in /private/var/log/system.log when I connect to a network:
Sep 22 20:49:41 localhost mach_init[2]: Server 2427 in bootstrap d03 uid 0: "/usr/sbin/lookupd": exited as a result of signal 1 [pid 515]
However, I get the same message when I connect via dial-up (which is working OK), so I don't think that's related.
Any ideas?

How is the express getting internet? What modem is it plugged into?
How is the extreme setup? New extreme cannot be setup with 5.6 utility.. you must use latest 6.3. Which also means you cannot setup from computer using less than Lion .. or you must use iOS with latest utility but it has limited configuration cf the computer version.
IPv6 is also needed.. turn on local link.

please help me, my blackberry curve has been working perfectly fine (everything network and wifi connection are working great) since i got it but all of the sudden when i connect to our wifi at home i noticed that the wifi logo on the upper screen is grayed out. i checked the manual and it says: device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection. i dont know what to do, i tried the hard reset (removed batt for 1 min while phone is on and put it back in) i also tried to remove the wifi profile and added it back up but still nothing seems to work, my service provider has BB services available on my phone, i can received BBM, pushed email, use FB on my phone using my network but i cant use my wifi to browse.. what should i do? help me please!

With a PC, the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus software will sometimes block an attempted Internet connection.
Check both applications to see if you can find a "blocked" item and then take steps to "allow" the connection.
If still no luck, temporarily disable the wireless security for a short period to see if the PC can connect that way. If it can.....then you know it is security related issue.
See if the PC can connect using a setting like WPA-PSK-TKIP. The equivalent Apple setting would be WPA/WPA2 Personal.

Firstly, I would suggest we use Exchange 2013 FE as the Outlook Anywhere proxy server.
For the certificate issue, it mostly occurs because the host name that Outlook are trying to access does not match the certificate SAN. Please check with this point. If they do not match, you
can change the host name by referring to the following article:

You can try to remember or get the passcode somehow. If not, the only other option is to wipe the device clean and restore it to factory settings.
Follow the instructions in iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137 to restore the device to factory settings.
Once you have setup the device as a new one, you can then sync it back with your iTunes account and all your music, apps, contacts and any other content sync'ed with iTunes will be loaded on the device. Any content that is stored only on the device and not sync'ed with iTunes, like app logins or data, will be lost during this process. Be forewarned that this is a long process and can take a couple of hours or more to complete. This can be painful, but it is necessarily so to prevent users from working around the security settings. After the restore is complete, you can setup a new Restrictions passcode. Make a note of the passcode to avoid this situation in future.

Airport Extreme Connected to Internet but Macbook Pro will not

I'm living in an apartment and using an Airport Extreme to supply wireless connection. The internet is paid for by the apartment complex and I have no access to the modem. Up until yesterday the internet worked fine for all devices. I did several factory resets on the Airport Extreme and now have confirmed internet access with my PS3 and smartphone connected to the wireless network. However, my macbook pro will connect to the wireless network but will not go beyond that to the web. I have renewed DHCP leases, reset network configurations and deleted plists to refresh everything but it still does not work. I have noted that when connected to the network, I have an IP address that begins with 192.168.x.x and the macbook states the router address begins the same way. The Airport Extreme displays an IP address of 172.xxx.x.x
I can manually input the routers IP address into my laptops network configuration and create an IP similar and connect to the internet through the laptop but if I want to connect to other networks I have reset that information. It simply won't work automatically. The airport extreme is setup in bridge mode. That is the only setup which would offer stable networking without any dropping or the device disappearing from the airport utility.
I'm currently out of my apartment and will call my ISP later today, but this problem has affected my roommates macbook's as well. My last attempt to connect directly into the wall ethernet jack yielded the same results without any internet connection.

Try this:
Put the Airport Extreme in Bridge Mode and plug the apartment ethernet cable into a normal ethernet port on the back of the Airport Extreme instead of the normal "Internet" ethernet port.

- Reset the iPod:

AirPort Extreme Card recognizes networks but won't connect - HELP!

firstly, if this post is similar to one that has already been well-read and widely responded to, i apologize and ask that you respond with the link to said thread.
my issue pertains to an iBook G4 (circa 2004 i believe) running OS X 10.4.11 with an apple-installed AirPort Extreme card (firmware version 405.1). i have never had any problems with the card previously, but in the last week it has quite suddenly ceased to connect to any wireless network i attempt to log on to (both password protected and non). despite the card's sudden inability to connect, it still is able to recognize all the wireless networks in my location (i know this as the networks are still listed in the AirPort status pull-down menu).
in an effort to fix the issue i have:
restarted the card (turned it off and on)
restarted the computer (many, many times)
used the network diagnostics program
used the network setup assistant program
attempted to connect through the system preferences (network)
attempted to connect through internet connect
did a complete erase and install
still nothing.
anyone had a similar problem? anyone find a way to fix it?

firstly, tesserax, a tremendous thank you for your help. unfortunately, i tried each step you suggested, but the problem continues.
step 1: i have tried and failed to connect to several different networks in a handful of locations (home, work, friend's house, local coffee shop, etc.).
step 2: i have disabled my own wireless encryption as well as the wireless encryption at a friends house, however, to do so i had to use their ibook, as my own either didn't list the base station in the AirPort utility (although it did list the base station in the AirPort status pull down), or it asked for a password even though the base station wasn't password protected (maybe this may add some insight into the issue?).
step 3: i have connected the computer directly to the modem using an ethernet cable and was able to go online - perhaps this means the problem is related solely to the card.
step 4: i moved the the com.apple.networkConfig.plist file and and the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop and restarted. unfortunately, OS did NOT rebuild the files. instead, i had to go through the network diagnostics to rebuild them manually. while the files were replaced, the problem was not solved.
step 5: i reset the PRAM, but the problem still exists.
step 6: i reset the PMU, but the problem still exists.
i then tried various combinations of your suggestions, including moving the files out of the preferences folder and then reseting the PRAM and the PMU, but still nothing.
after having attempted every fix i could think of (and that was before posting to this forum) i did a full erase and install of the OS. since that's usually the cure all to whatever ails the computer, it's my assumption that the issue is a physical (hardware) one. that said, if you have any other suggestions i will be more than happy to give them a shot.

Airport will connect to network but not internet

My MacBook air started out working beautifully on my wireless network-high download speeds, solid connection, etc... After about six hours of operation however, it has stopped being able to find the internet consistently, no matter what wireless network I try. I use a NetGear wireless hub in my room, and my laptop is able to consistently find and connect to the network (the hub is only about 3 feet away) but it cannot connect to the internet. Under network settings I get the message "Airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet" or "Airport cannot connect to the internet." I know that the internet is working, because the network works fine for my MB Pro, iPhone, TiVo, and xBox 360. In fact, the MBA is occassionally able to find the internet and get an IP address. Sometimes this IP address allows me to load web pages extremely slow and sometimes I cannot even find google. The problem extends beyond my one network, however, as I have difficulty connecting to other wireless networks. I am on a college campus and sometimes can connect to the campus WiFi, but it again frequently connects without being able to figure out an IP address. Some help would be great.

I have a similar issue. Mine does the same thing, but only if in a specific area. If I'm sitting on my recliner with the Air on my lap, then it will connect, but I can't get to any sites. The browser just stalls.
If I move to the table that's 3 feet away from me, then the internet connects without any problems.
It could be a reception issue with me, or something. I don't know. At first it connected at very high speeds. That was before 10.5.2.
I don't know if the Leopard Update has anything to do with it, since my iMac doesn't have this problem at all. And that has an N card also.
I hope Apple is looking into this wireless issues.

My new iphone4 connected to the internet fine at the store today, but will not connect to my wifi at home - it sees the guest network, but does not give me a place to enter the password

I just got a new iphone 4 (my first one) and the internet worked great at the store, as well as in the parking lot at the grocery store on the way home - yes I was playing with it! Anyway, now that I'm home and the store is closed, it won't connect to my home wifi. It sees the guest network, but it doesn't give me place to put in the password, so I'm not sure if that's why it won't work. Also, I don't know what settings to put in for the screen that comes after the network choice screen - it has IP Addresses with DHCP, BootP, and Statis (I don't know what any of these are or mean!) It also has a 'renew lease' button that I have no idea what to do with, and it has a section with HTTP proxy that is highlighted "off" but also has 'manual' and 'auto' options - maybe these are not set correctly?
Very frustrating that there is no manual, and the website doesn't really help with this at all. Thanks so much!

If you look at the top left of your screen you will either see a 3G (or 4G if you have AT&T) or you will see the wi-fi symbol. If you don't see the wi-fi symbol you are connecting to Gmail through your cellular data plan, not via wi-fi.
To answer your question, it doesn't happen often but when it does the steps I mentioned above will normally resolve it. Hopefully you won't have any further problem with this.

Airport Extreme connected drive works but doesn't appear on Aiport Utility

I have a seagate back up plus connected via USB to my Airport Extreme. Time Machine works fine from my Mac Book over wifi. I can also open finder and add files over my wifi network and then access them from my PC on the same network. The only problem is the drive doesn't show up on Airport utility. How do I get it to show up there and then can I access remote when not on my network?

In hotel w/wireless network. ATV finds network, but does not ask me for password, so can't communicate through network. MacBook Air, iPad and 2 iPhones connected to hotel wireless, but ATV does not ask me for the password. Any ideas?

I have succesfully connected a MacBook Air, an iPad and two iPhones to the wireless network in this hotel. Apple TV can see the network and "connects" to the network, but w/o asking for password. I expected to see a screen immediately after selecting the network that asked me for the password as did all of my other devices. ATV did not ask me for a password. When I go to Settings>General>Network, it shows the name of the hotel wireless network, but I can't communicate with the network. It can't set date and time. When I try to enter my Apple account name and password, it tells me it can't log in w/o setting date and time.
Any ideas on how to connect to this network?

I am having the same problem. In my hotel when I connect my laptop a screen will pop up and you have to hit the button "I Accept Terms". However I can't do that with the ATV. I called the internet provider and they said they could not help me. Any ideas? Do you think the guy just doesn't know what he can do for me? I am thinking I will call later and hope to get a different technician who might know how to help connect me.

IPhone connects to network but do not get router,DNS address

I can connect to wireless networks no problem, however DHCP does not work properly at all. I get a an IP address and netmask address but this does not correspond to computers already on the network and I cannot connect to the internet.
i do not receive any DNS or router address on any network (checked a friends iPhone and they have the same problem).
Only if I go to static and manually enter a correct ip address, netmask,router and DNS can i actually surf the web!
I cant see any settings to tweak or change to fix this. anyone else experiencing this or know of a fix?

Photosmart 6520 e Windows 7 printer says it is connected to network, but will not print.

I've followed all suggestions in troubleshooting both from manual and on line. Shut off firewall, unplugged, plugged waited. Nothing changes. All printouts from the printer say connected, but will not print and computer detection of the printer says cannot be located. Help!!
