Problem Awakening Display From Sleep

I just bought my first Apple last saturday,an iMac 17".Here`s my problem, I set up the display to sleep after 5 minutes.Right after it goes to sleep, if I move the mouse the display will turn on again OK,however, once again the displays goes to sleep, if I leave it alone for a long period of time (say a couple of hours) if I move the mouse to awake the display, the display remains dark blue.I can see the cursor, but nothing else.I`ve tried pressing keys, clicking the mouse, anything to awaken the computer,to no avail.
I`ve also made sure that in preferences, the computer is "never put to sleep".I did though, checked the box that says "put the hard disk to sleep when possible",thinking that one thing did not affect the other.
Or is it?
Ultimately, I had to resort to shutting down the computer (pressing and holding the power button for 5 seconds) and the starting it up again.
My operating system is up to date,so this is not the cause of this bug.
Does anyone have the same problem?

  • External display issues when waking display from sleep

After waking my external display from sleep (the entire Macbook was not asleep, just the external display), the garbled colored dots kept appearing at the top and bottom of the screen, only then for the entire display to go black, then about 5-10 seconds later the images comes back, but with the garbled colored dots at the bottom. It will keep doing this over and over again.
It's only happened once so far, but I seem to remember reading about some issues when waking from sleep with the new unibody Macbooks with regards to external displays. Is this a known issue with these Macbooks?

There have been similar reports. However, not all external displays in combination with a MacBook will exhibit this problem. Thus, it seems either display specific or something that is caused by a cross between one display and a MacBook.
I assume that you are using one of Appe's mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters to connect to the external display. In that case have you installed the latest firmware update for the adapter?

  • Problem when waking from sleep

Hi all, my mbp has real problems when waking from sleep - I hear the dvd drive do something, the screen comes on but remains black, and then nothing else - no keys work, only holding the power button has any effect.
I have a screensaver password on.
Anyone heard of this before or have any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Problems when waking from sleep with display

Okay, so I have a Dual 1.8 G5 with an upgraded ATI Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card that I've had in it for over a year now. I just bought a new monitor, a Viewsonic 22" widescreen LCD to replace the 17" viewsonic CRD I had. Now, i get occasionally some random noise or something when the computer wakes from sleep that disappears most of the time if I turn the monitor off and back on.
Now does anyone have a thought as to if this is a problem with the monitor (i.e. should I take it back) or a problem with the card.
    Thanks

    Paul Pardue-
How is the monitor connected to the card? Have you verified that all of your connections are secure?
What does the noise look like?

  • Problems waking up from sleep & also with auto shutdown

My Mac Mini is almost impossible to wake up once it is in sleep mode. Most of the time I have to hit the power button 15 to 20 times before it will wake up. That's problem number 1.
As a possible solution to problem number 1, I decided to use the scheduled shut down and wake up. I have set the darned thing about 10 times now (yes, saved it and locked it each time), and the settings are not saved in my Preferences. The shut down procedure has never happened after setting the preferences. That is problem number 2.
I have installed nothing on this computer - all applications are the standard Mac issue.
I had a similar problem with my 5 year old G4 Tower and hoped that this would have been fixed by now. Does anyone have any solutions?
    Thanks

I've had the same experience with several Macs, even back to using OS 8. This "comatose" condition is why I never "sleep" my desktop Macs & only sleep the laptops by closing the lid, never by choose sleep from the menu bar or allowing Energy Saver to put the Mac asleep. In System Preferences > Energy Saver I set the computer to never sleep, display to sleep after 15 minutes & hard drive(s) to sleep when possible. My screen saver comes on in 10 minutes.

  • VNC - Screen Resolution Problem on Wake from Sleep

My question: When it either wakes from sleep or cold boots (NOT on restart for some reason), Mac OS X seems to be confused on the previous resolution of my screen. On wake or cold boot, my main screen SOMETIMES gets set for 800x600 at 56 Hz, according to the display preference pane. I normally run at 1152x870 at 75 Hz. In the past, I have just used the "Detect Displays" command from the display preference pane. This always fixes the screen resolution and restores it to the correct setting.
This would not be a problem if I didn't have to run VNC. These screen res changes are crashing my VNC server. Here's what I do. I run a VNC server (OSXvnc is the name). I go away. Machine goes to sleep. From machine 'x' I send a wake-on-wan packet (a pain in the butt to figure out for me, BTW). My VNC Machine wakes up. I know it's awake, because I can login to it from remote, using SSH. But the screen res problem happened, and OSXvnc shuts down and won't reinitialize automatically. It says "Screen Resolution Changed - Server Reinitialized", and the "Start Server" button is waiting to be pressed. Of course, this cripples my ability to use VNC.
For what it's worth, this problem has happened with two different video cards. Granted, the first card was an ATI Radeon 9000 with 64 MB or VRAM and the second card is the same model with 128 MB VRAM. It's virtually the same card, but still, that's two different cards.
I have 2 CRT displays connected thru adapters (DVI-VGA and ADC-VGA) to the ATI. I'm running all the latest updates for Panther, according to Software Update. This problem has been with me since 10.2.3. I lived with it until it started really getting in the way (VNC crippling & such).
    Any thoughts? -- iJW
    G4 Dual 1 GHz MDD (no FW 800)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

One other item I just discovered. It seems that whether or not my monitors are powered on has something to do with it. When my monitors are on, the problem doesn't happen.
I like turning them off to save electricity. If I'm using the computer remotely, I already have a monitor. I don't need one powering up at my home that no one's looking at anyway. So the question still stands...
    Anyone?

  • Problems waking up from Sleep

    Hi,
I have had my MBP for about six weeks now, and I have noticed a problem coming out of sleep for the past two weeks. Details below:
When I close the lid, the MBP goes to sleep as expected. Sometimes when I open the lid, I notice that the bluetooth mighty mouse has no response, although I see that the bluetooth icon in the menu shows it is connected. When I click "Turn Bluetooth Off", I get an infinite pinwheel spinning whenever I hover over the menu bar. If I close the lid to put the MBP back to sleep, it appears to go to sleep as expected -- but when I open the lid, the MBP appears dead and requires a hard reboot. After the reboot everything is peachy.
I would say that this has happened about a dozen times now (enough for me to post this question).
Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?
    TIA

  • IMac 27" i3 - problems with wake from sleep

    Hi
My farthers iMac 27 i3, has got this anoying problem, that the machine sometimes won't wake from sleep - maybe 1 out of 10. The only solution is to pull the wall socket, witch is a very bad solution. Pushing or holding the power button won't make the machine wake.
I can't hear the harddisk spinning up, so I guess it's not a display problem.
Can it be the PSU, or maybe just a software problem?
How can get closer to this problem?
    Thanks a lot in advance

Don't have any non-Apple USB devices connected.  They may not like low power mode for USB on Energy Saver.

  • Connection problems after waking from sleep????

I'm having a strange issue with my 2012 Macbook Pro running OSx v10.8. I take my computer with me between home and school, and I usually just put it to sleep during the commute. For the last few weeks, when I got to school and woke up my MBP, it wouldn't connect to the internet. It recognized the WiFi connection, but did not assign a valid IP address. It was only when I shut the computer down and rebooted it that I was able to connect. Strangely, when I got home, I had no problem connecting to my home network, even after waking up from sleep.
After a little while of this, it got worse. Now, even after re-starting, I am unable to connect at school. (WiFi icon shows exclamation point). This is also true for my home network.
Here's the kicker. When I log out of my default account and log into the guest account, I have no trouble either in school or at home. Waking from sleep is never a problem and I connect everywhere. However, as soon as I log back into my other account, I lose connectivity.
I have tried renewing my DHCP lease, or manually inputting an address, but neither of these have worked. I have resorted to using the guest account, and I want access to my old files again without having to switch back and forth.
If anyone has any input on this, it would be greatly appreciated!! Feel free to e-mail me at [email protected]
    Thanks!

    same issue here..
reset my network settings and reset phone a billion times already, same issue still occur. sometimes the phone will wake up with wifi and sometimes it will go to 3g, one time it went to GPRS, its just really bizarre. If i open safari it will ask if i want to join the network that i originally set up, but when i select the network it just says "unable to connect". If i just leave the phone be for a couple hours and wake it up again, it will rejoin the wifi network.
I use remote to control my music library, but if my phone goes to sleep, it won't reconnect again so it's basically useless.

  • Anyone's MacPro have problems after waking from sleep mode?

After waking from sleep, my MacPro 2x2.4 Quadcore Intel Xeon freezes in several applications that had been running before sleeping. Mail and Firefox both get into endless loops trying to download data and will not force quit. Pulldown restart and shut down do not function when this is occurring. Must shuyt down manually from box and start again. Everything works fine again until it goes to sleep again.

Start by swapping the keyboard. You don't need to spend a fortune, and handy to have spare. USB cables can be bad even new.
When I had some problems Apple wanted to blame the mouse, keyboard, cable, but in the end I found
    A. run Disk Warrior
    B. Corrupt pref or conflict with version of Hardware Monitor and other background tasks

  • Touchpad problem after waking from Sleep

When I wake my Macbook Pro (Snow Leopard 10.6.1) from sleep the touchpad soft clicking doesn't work however The phsyical click does.
It rectifies itself after about 5 minutes of use however it is quite frustrating. Any possible solutions? This problem occured in with Leopard (10.5.x) as well.

I have exact same problem, in that in waking from sleep, cursor cannot be moved by touchpad for 1-2 minutes but moves instantly and normally via a mouse. Has been happening ever since got machine in March, regardless of OS / firmware upgrades. Any suggestions out there?

  • New MB AIR; problems waking up from sleep - tracks grey lines across screen when trackpad is activated

I bought this new AIR in Hong Kong 10/10/2011; it has taken to being unresponsive when I try to wake it from sleep. When I try to find and move the cursor by moving my finger on the trackpad, I end up drawing thick grey lines which express the movements of my finger.
I tried to get APPLE HELP but as I registered my AIR in Hong Kong, I can only reach HK telephone support - and SINGAPORE is not listed on the page (only HK, USA, New Zealand, etc). The problem is I am in Singapore right now.
    Can anyone help? Thank you.

This Mac Pro is less than one week old so I shouldn't have tp reset the PRAM etc but I can give it a try.
By the way, here is the screenshot taken by my digital camera:

It ONLY happens when it my Mac Pro goes to sleep for the first time. All subsequent sleeps are okay. I need to Shut Down my Mac Pro and boot it up again to reproduce the problem which will happen after the first sleep.
I can give rid of the lines simply by manually putting the Mac Pro back to sleep for a few seconds and waking it up.
Also it would appear that communications to the monitor gets reset after 10 seconds or so. (I see the DVI Icon appear on my Monitor). When that happens the lines disappear.
I also noticed that the lines will go away if I simply turn off my Dell 2407 WFP 24 inch widescreen LCD Monitor and Turn it back on. But I am not sure whether that is really fixing the problem or whether it would be fixed in any event simply by the passage of time as noted above.
Do you think it is my Monitor?
(i am using 1920x1200 resolution on a 24 inch Dell Widescreen Monitor)

  • Wi-fi internet connection problem after waking from sleep

hi, i have a macbook pro 5,4 running 10.6.8 OS and i have a wireless issue. whenever the laptop is awkoen from sleep it will take about ~60 seconds to connect to the internet. The wifi indicates that it is connected to my home wifi almost immediately but there is just no internet. Google chrome reports that it is sending a request or redirecting in which it eventually fails to load page. this is very annoying having to wait a minute for my internet to work. i have tried downgrading my wireless card driver/extension to older 10.6.4 as i read there was a wireless issue from 10.6.5 up, but this did not fix the problem. i have also tried changing channels and settings on wireless router with no effect. i do not have any connection issues once the internet connection is established. please help. thanks!

Have you tried it with a different mouse? I'm no expert, but you might want to find out, if the problem is mouse-specific.
