Problem backing up media in itunes

ok so i bought a new computer and i'm using the "back up entire itunes library and playlist" feature to burn them onto a dvd and then using that to "restore from the disc" feature on the new computer. as explained in this lnk http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302392
here are the steps:
1: select back up entire itunes library and playlists
2: insert blank cd/dvd(i tried both cd and dvd dual layer and regular)
3: itunes does a 3-4 minute scan
4: message pops up that the libarary is too big to fit on one disc and that if you wish to backup to multiple discs
5: i click on data option
6: then oddly enough a message pops up to insert blank disk and the previuosly inserted disk is ejected
i've tried all kinds of discs but the same thing happens
i done the basic common sense stuff like shutting off the computer etc and making sure the discs are in good shape etc
but when i try to burn just one playlists onto a regular cd it works fine
please help
thank you
sean

This is incorrect.
The tags are part of the song file itself.
Album art is not backed up.
If you wantto back up everything, simply back up the entire iTunes folder.

In iTunes I'm having problems changing the "Media Kind" in the OPTIONS menu from "Music" to "Audiobook". After going through the steps, the next time I check, the items have reverted back to "Music". What must I do to save it as an "Audiobook"?

After more digging in the Support section here and some Google work, I turned off iTunes Match and lo and behold!  I can change the media kind to Audiobook!  So, it looks like iTunes Match locked the files up somehow and for some reason.
I went into iTunes Store > iTunes Match > "No, Thanks" to disable it on the local PC.

Ok.  Found something that said to shut down and hold the option, command, p, and r keys on restart.  Held them down for a few restarts and everything automatically signed in and works.  Woohoo!!!

  • Back up and Restore iTunes

Hi all. I am having problems with my windows PC, i am going to have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall windows.
What is the best way to back up and restore iTunes?
I want to keep all my playlists, music data, such as number of times player etc and which songs are ticked.
I also have a iphone and a ipad, is there anyway to transfer their data and backups?
I don't want the trouble of re-syncing the iphone and ipad apps/music etc.
My library is about 40gb. In the past I have simply copied and pasted the itunes folder (on a portable harddrive), but it never remembers the data listed above and I have always had to re-sync all of my music and apps to iphone and ipad, which are full up with 32gb and would take a considerable amount of time.
Is there any way to do this so my iPhone and iPad think itunes is exactly the same and won't require (wiping and) re-syncing/re-authorising and will carry on as normal.
I would be greatful for any help. Thank you.

Copying and later restoring the entire iTunes folder should have you covered. I suspect you did something wrong with the restore phase on your previous attempts.
All your media should be inside your iTunes\iTunes Media folder. If that is not the case then you should consolidate the library. File > Library > Organize Library > Consolidate files. If the option is available you should also use File > Library > Organize Library > Rearrange files in the folder "iTunes Media". If your media folder isn't a subfolder of the main iTunes library folder then see this post.
Backup the library with UserTip. Before you wipe the hard drive deauthorize the computer and make one final update of the backup.
Once you have rebuilt your computer install SyncToy and use the same process to clone the backup copy of your library back into the Music folder of your new profile as ...<User's Music>\iTunes. Then install iTunes and authorize the install of the operating system to your account. Your devices can now be connected and backed up on the new system. They will sync without losing any data.
Keep using SyncToy periodically to keep your backup up to date.

  • HT4914 When I subscribed to iTunes Match I lost all my songs. I did a back up of my ITunes Library to iCloud but I can't find the songs! Can someone help me?

When I subscribed to iTunes Match I lost all my songs. I did a back up of my ITunes Library to iCloud but I can't find the songs! Can someone help me?

I guess the iTunes store is not recognizing your computer. Did you de-authorise your computer after you uploaded to iTunes Match. Did you register your new computer with a different User ID? Do you have Genius turned on (which needs to be on as it works in conjunction with iTunes Match. Did you authorise your new computer?
You paid for ITunes match & uploaded your songs using a different computer. So there are obviously one or more steps which need to be taken to download your media from the iCloud. Either someone else with more expertise than I can help you, for example, Limnos Limnos ; or King_Penguin King_Penguin or Chris_CA https://discussions.apple.com/people/Chris%20CA would probably be able to help you better than I.
    I don't work for Apple, I'm only a volunteer, if you can't get help from someone as mentioned above there's always Kappy (who is extremely busy) Kappy ;
then I would recommend going through the tried and true channel here > http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
Sorry I couldn't solve your problem myself. I'm about ready to retire from this game.
    Peace Out.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your iPhone. Only if you back up your phone manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPhone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Problem with album art in iTunes 7!

Ok I tried doing a search for this topic and came up with a lot of threads that didn't really answer my question so if this has been asked, my apologies....
The problem I'm having with iTunes 7 currently is that I go into the iPod Preferences and I un-check the box to include Album Art on the iPod to remove all artwork and then check it again to restore artwork. Now what happens is that iTunes does remove album art from the iPod but when I check the box to restore artwork it doesn't do crap! I did this exact thing several times to no avail, all of my album art that formerly was on the iPod is now gone and I can't get it back on despite the art being in the tags in iTunes.
***?? Why is this not working, what am I missing here? If I'm not missing anything here and I find out I gotta re-install or do some weird funky thing with iTunes to get the album art to work I'm going to be majorly disappointed with this crap of a release! Please tell me it's just me and that I'm not doing the right thing to restore my album art to the iPod!

I have the same exact problem stated above. Since the v.7 release, my album art displays incorrectly on my iPod. The strangest thing is that my device never displays the same WRONG album art twice - it's always something different. The other day was very interesting...every single song I played displayed the same exact album cover. Today at least the art is changing around a bit but still, the art is wrong! Wow. I reset my iPod and started from scratch - nothing happened. I feel like my iPod is on vacation. "Oh, you want art? Hold on...How about this one? No?...ok...How about this one?." If you can hear me Apple, please fix this.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Music files in my PC's iTunes directory have been moved around, now iTunes' index is not recognizing them and returns error messages. The files have previously been sync'd to my iPod, but when I tried to sync back from the iPod, iTunes on the PC error'd.

I want iTunes to reconstruct its index of my music.
We accidentally moved files around in my <<C:\Documents and Settings\Jordan\My Documents\My Music\iTunes>> directory. We tried to move them back, but anyway, the iTunes program now no longer can find/play the titles that the opened iTunes page/Library displays.
I had previously copied/syncd all my iTunes music to my iPod. I tried syncing back to the PC from the iPod.  No improovement.
At the moment, my dad is on my computer, logged in under his name (with administrative permissions). It seems that looking at my iTunes music under his login is still working OK.
I do not have my music backed up to the "cloud".
    What are my options?

The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.
If you have to resort to trying to pull back the library from your iPod see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Iphone 5 not restoring my back up data from itunes? Iphone 5 began freezing and turning off by itself after ios7 updates. How can i recover my data?

I began having problems with my iphone 5 after I updated to ios7. It began having several issues e.g. freezing, turning on and off by itself and the home button was not responding.
It is a long story because I had to talk to apple reps etc. to make a long story short; my iphone is now in recovery mode and only works when it is set as a new iphone.
Now my back up data on itunes will not back up into my iphone 5 and my iphone is still in recovery mode.
How can I restore my itunes back up data into my iphone 5?
How can I get my phone out of recovery mode?
How can I recover my potentially lost data, contacts, sms, etc.,  due to backing up my iphone and trying to fix the issues with apple reps?

Your i-device was not designed to be a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up. Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned below).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):
