Problem backing up ses files

I have been trying to back up encore projects from my edit machine to an external hard drive and have been able to back up everything except a couple of these files.  Is there a character limit that anyone knows about?  I think that might have something to do with it.  I'm using a Encore CS3 in Windows XP backing up to a 1 terabyte western digital hard drive.
Thanks.

Neil,
Probably a perfect call. All of my externals are Converted/Formatted to NTFS upon arrival, and I've never encountered any problem when doing a full backup of an Encore Project to them. I do use "_" instead of spaces in my Project File Names now, But even with spaces, I didn't encounter any problems.

  • Can't open .ses file in Cool Edit 2.1

    Hello,
I hope I'm on the right forum here. I have a big problem with a *.ses file in Cool Edit 2.1. When I try to open it it simply doesn't do anything. It starts Cool Edit but it doesn't start importing the files and effects of the tracks.
I saved the project last night, there is no recover file for it. There are to many wav files to recover it manually...
If someone could help me and give an advice why I can't open it anymore, I would be really thankful!
    Greetings,
    Christian

    Thanks Steve
Just email me the ses file (no audio).
Send it to me via the aatranslator website
You should checkout my SesBackup program - also available via the same site

  • The .SES file was prepared on a MAC - but will it open without problems on a PC ?

Someone is sending me a .ses file (or .sesx file) which was prepared on a MAC.
I have to open it here on my PC.
    Problems or not?

If it was prepared on a mac, it will definitely be *.sesx and not *.ses.
No. At worst it won't be able to find the audio files. But if you keep the relative paths to the media the same (i.e. the subfolder structure is the same) then it should automatically relink to all of the audio files.  The *.sesx file is simply an XML file, so you can open it in a text editor, scroll to the bottom and see where the sesx file thinks the files should be.

  • I keep getting an error 2048 everytime I try to play back my Maya file that I saved as a qt movie. I just recently updated qt and this is when the errors would pop up. Before the update I had no problems. How can I fix this?

I updated quicktime a few days ago and now I keep getting error 2048 whenever i try to play back my Maya file after saving it as a qt movie. I had no issues with this before I did the update, after the update I keep getting the error 2048 message. QT will play my earlier Maya movies and other video, it just won't play back my latest work. Help me please, I need this for school.

The 2048 error message usually suggests the files use MPEG-2 format which is not supported natively on Windows via QuickTime without the additional MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • Tempo problems with imported wav files

Hey everyone, sorry if there's a quick fix for this in the forums that I couldn't find, but I've been having some tempo problems with imported .wav files.
Long story short, my system couldn't handle playing all the tracks for a song while recording drums, so I bounced out an mp3 of the song and put it in a new Logic file so my drummer could just play along to that as I recorded him. Unfortunately, the original song is at 167 bpm, but I forgot to change the bpm in the new Logic file with the .mp3 file of the song to 167 bpm, so it was left at the default 120 bpm.
So, the drums were recorded at the correct 167 bpm, but Logic thinks that those new drum .wav files should be played at 120 bpm, so when I import my drum tracks back into the original file, they do not play correctly at all.
I could get record it all again, but I wanted to check if there was a way I could salvage what I already have, since my drummer lives about an hour away right now and can't just come over whenever he wants.
Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it.

    Hi,
First, do not use MP3 in Logic, the sound quality is less than AIFF, WAV or CAF, and Logic has to decode it for playback, making it a heavier burden on the CPU than an uncoded audiofile, such as AIFF, WAV or CAF.
Secondly, audio files are independent of Logic's tempo. If you bounce down an audio file in any format (other than Apple Loop), it will play back at the same speed, +regardless of Logics' tempo setting+, either at recording or playback. Logic doesn't 'think' anything. The BPM is only important to MIDI tracks, or to the spacing between audio files. The audio files themselves *are not affected* by the tempo setting. If you import an audio file of tempo 167 into a 120 BPM project, the file will still play at 167, only Logic will indicate the wrong bar positions.
    regards, Erik.

    Hi Experts,
I am facing one problem while creating new File Source & giving path like
    "file://localhost///Doclib/docs1"
where "Doclib" is a server name
& "Docs1" is a shared folder which is accessible from Oracle SES box.
But when i run the crawler it throws File not found error in log file.
    "EQG-30008: file://localhost///Doclib/docs1: Not found"
Note : I am able to crawler & index file types of documents from other server using same Oracle SES box.
Please suggest is there any settings i need to do for sucessfully crawler documents from this new server "Doclib".

    Hi Joe,
    thanks for your feedback.
These files to be tarred aren't there directly after backup stops with error.
It seems that some process stores data about reports in that file and when trying to
pack these reports via tar they are delete by any cleanup method.
    Does this help.
P.S. Backup usually takes about more than 1hour

  • Transferring and backing up project + files

    Hello all -
I'm working on a project and starting to get a little paranoid about the diminishing space on my system hard drive (I've used up about 65%)
It was suggested to me that I transfer all my logged footage and FCP working files to an external hard drive (I have a LaCie 160GB firewire drive purchased for just this purpose).
Question #1: are there any tutorials out there showing how to execute this process, step-by-step? Naturally, I'm worried about losing everything during the transition.
I was also advised to backup my files on DVD under compression. Again, any tutorials showing how that's done?
I feel like the more places I save the individual files and project as a whole, the more secure I'll feel. Having everything on an external drive with a lot of free space (which will become my scratch disk, right?) AND on a DVD will ensure that I don't lose anything.
How do most of you normally work - do you keep your projects on external drives? But what if the external drive conks out or gets corrupted? Is that a matter of faith or do you also save to DVD as was suggested to me? Do you then save to DVD after each daily editing session?
Apologies in advance for all of the questions (as well as my glaring ignorance) and thanks to anyone who can provide any help with this.

    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   FCP 5.1

It is highly recommended NOT to keep your media or render files on your system drive. I'm surprised it hasn't been causing problems already.
Instead, keep all media (video and audio clips, photos, graphics, etc) on a separate physical drive. Since you have a G4, you can easily add additional ATA (aka PATA) drives inside ... up to 3 additional in most models. That would be preferable over an external Firewire drive.
As for storing the other files associated with an FCP project, most people keep the project file on the system drive (along with the OS and Apps), and they generally keep the Autosave files on another drive. That way you'll always have a recent copy of the project file. I do not recommend backing up any files that can easily be re-captured. But I DO recommend backing up photos, graphics, music, VOs, etc that cannot be re-captured.
It's also a very good idea to make regular backups of important files off-premises. In the event of theft, fire, flood or other disaster, you'll be able to retrieve the backup and get back to work ASAP.

  • My hard disk is damaged and i have no external hard drive, and i was wondering, if i sent my computer to Apple, would they back up my files for me before repairing it?

My hard disk has been damaged for about 4 months now. When I ran the disk repair under disk utility, it told me to back my files and send it in for repairs. My problem is that I had a external hard drive, but I lost it, so I obviously can't back up my files. Also I tried using other external hard drives and that didn't work, pretty sure it was because they were not formatted for a mac. So my question is that if I send my computer to Apple, for repair, that would they back up my files there before repairing my computer. It could be a dumb question but at least I asked. Also my mouse pad no longer works. The "clickability" of it stopped about 3 months or so after getting the computer and just around last Christmas the mouse would not click anymore at all, it would move if one put there fingers on the mousepad but it would not "touch click" anymore. So yeah, help!
And the OS X was still a snow leopard, not sure the number of the OS.

Can't you just get another external drive, format it for Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and backup some if not all of your files? Apple's not in the data recovery business. You should have maintained a backup and now it might be too late. Your best bet would probably be just to call it a loss and buy both an internal, to put in your machine, and an external, for backup purposes. You can boot from your installer disc, format the 'new' internal and begin restoring your apps at least.
I'll never understand why some people don't have backups. Drives fail. It's best to have redundant backups so that all three or four drives don't all fail at once.
Sheesh - I know that I'm not helping your problem but maybe now you've learned your lesson and others will as well.

  • I am having a new hard drive put in today and am upgrading to a 1tb. My time machine is only a 500gb will it still back up my files.

Will my 500 gb time machine still back up my files after I upgrade my imac to a 1tb hard drive?

Once your internal data exceeds the capacity of the Time Machine volume, you won’t be able to do a complete restore of your internal drive from that Time Machine backup.  The Time Machine Preferences does offer an Options button that you can click to exclude files and/or folders from the Time Machine backup.  For example, if you have a few hundred gigabytes of original captured video, you may not want to back those up but only the final version of the video that you edited.  Or if you have an extensive iTunes collection, you may not back up the music because it is possible to restore that from other sources.
You have an option that might simplify your problem and that is buy a one or two terabyte disk to use as your external disk for Time Machine.  The current 500 GB disk could be retained perhaps as a network drive or other external storage perhaps for those iTunes disks you’ve ripped or those original video capture files.  This is the simplest and most trustworthy solution if it’s feasible given your data needs.
If you are reluctant to add another external drive at this time, when you get the new 1 TB drive, you could consider partitioning the larger internal drive into at least two partitions, for example a BOOT drive and a DATA drive.  You could then install the operating system on the BOOT drive and put lots of things you create there as well and let Time Machine back that up.  The DATA drive could be reserved for those things that are not so critical that you have a ready backup as mentioned above.  The size of the BOOT drive could be 450 GB and then your external drive will have some breathing room for the Time Machine backups as Allan indicated.

  • Problem Exporting for Web files created in FCE using Quicktime

I have been using FCE 4.01 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve

Why not bring the exported AIC file  back into MPEG Streamclip instead of QTX? You'll have a lot more control.
Compress the file to H.264 and restrict the data rate according to the resolution you're working with and to something consistent with the guidelines of the Web Service (say, You Tube) you're uploading to, (For example, something like 6 Mb per second would be about right for a 720P file.)
Or use Quicktime Conversion from FCE.
    Good luck.

  • The best practice when backing up your files

    Hi,
I recently started using Carbon Copy Cloner after using only Time Machine as my back up solution.  I do understand the purpose of each application TM and a cloner utility such as Super Duper or CCC but I was wondering what the best process is when using these two methods to backup you files.
For instance I use TM to back up my files as frequently as possible to keep all my recent changes updated, but I don’t see how I would keep my clone updated and make sure that when something happens I will have a workable boot disk and not something that contains corrupted files.  In other words I think these cloner utilities have some sort of feature to keep your clone drive updated every time something changes but this got me wondering what if you update your clone drive and for some reason one of the updated file was corrupted, without you knowing it if course, now you have a backup that contains bad files and may affect your system (corrupted fonts files etc.) and when you realized that something is not working right in your system you may want to recover from your clone but you will basically end up with the same problem because the bad files were also backed up.
How do you ensure that your clone will always be ready and that it will not contain bad files?
What is your backup process?  Be so kind and share your method.
Again, I’m ok with TM I just need to know how you guys are managing your clone drives using ether Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
    Thanks a lot!

I use CCC exclusively and update my clones every couple of days or after installing updates. I have no use for TM, since I've never had to go back and get something I deleted or changed. I do, however, boot into those clones on a routine basis to ensure that they look and act like the originals. This has worked for over seven years, but YMMV.

  • Problems opening & resaving NEF files with CS3/CS2

I seem to be having problems sending my NEF files to Photoshop from Aperture. This started happening just today & I'm not sure what to do.
What happens is that when I open a NEF file in external editor, instead of just opening up as a psd file in CS3 or CS2 directly like it used to do, it now opens Adobe Raw instead which means that I am unable to resave back into my Aperture Library. Is there anyone who has experienced this as well? Any suggetions as to the cause and a solution? I tried checking preferences for both Aperture as well as Photoshop but nothing seems to work.
The only thing I can think of is having just updated Adobe Raw to the latest version, 4.3 I think. Other than that Aperture did start up about a week ago & declared my library corrupt & proceeded to rebuild my library. Other than that it was behaving normally until today. Its really irritating & counter productive to be unable to resave my edits in Aperture.
Any help or suggestions will be very welcome indeed. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the tip Eduardo, but I checked the preferences and they seem to be correct.
It seems that only images in certain projects were affected. Could be the ones that Aperture rebuilt earlier. I guess I may have to try exporting the raw files from the affected projects, then deleting and reimporting the projects again. I did try to rebuild the thumbnails but it doesn't seem to help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try before I do this?

    Hi,
there are two examples in Help >> Example Finder >> Fundamentals >> File Input and Output. One is Write Data to XML File and the other is Red Data from XML File. The first will write it and the second will read it back.
I expanded th example with the String data and the value provided in your post and it work even with the '/' in the data.Message Edited by waldemar.hersacher on 04-06-2005 11:23 PM

  • Problem reading a jar file ?!

    Hello,
I am having a problem finding a class file which is inside a jar(xercesImpl.jar) which is in the classpath. I cant figure out what the problem.
I suspect it could be because my JVM is not reading the jar correctly.
When i click on a jar, a dialog box titled "java virtual machine launcher" saying "failed to load main-class manifest attribute .." is displayed.
Is it that there are executable and non-executable jars, and JVM will execute only the former ones ?
Or Does this mean somethign is wrong with my JRE/JVM??
i also tried typing "jar t xercesImpl.jar" (to see if it can print the table of files) and it doesnt do anything, doesnt even return to the prompt.
I am on win xp and few days back downloaded jdk1.5.0 and uninstalled previous jdk.
it seems windows has its own jre. i am bit confused which is being used.
i m a Java newbie, so please forgive my ignorance. Any help appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Well seems you are going through the horror of creating application jar file from command prompt. I went through the same and finally decided to make it through jBuilder. But the trouble persisted and I was getting same error as you were getting till I explicitly specified all the third party jar files I was using in the classpath and the problem was solved.
I recommend you to explicitly set all the jars in classpath that are being used by your application. Also set the path of any resources if you have any.
    All the best.
