Problem browsing the internet on my T42

I have to reboot my computer several times just to get on the computer browsing cause everytime I boot I can do everything but the programs that reguire port 80 or 8080 such as browsing the internet. I can't get onto any sites no matter what browser (ie, firefox, opera, safari or chrome) all says cant get online but I can login into yahoo im and aol IM just fine?
My wireless card is Intel Pro/Wireless2200BG network connection and I do have a IPV4 and IPV6 address.

Do you have any firewall applications installed? To me it looks like your computer has some kind of firewall
application installed that is blocking your browsers to access the net.
You could try to telnet a website and use the port's 80 or 8080.
Do your DNS work?
Go to the CMD prompt and type nslookup some website.tld and see if you get a response.
Yahoo and IM sometimes use just IP addresses to set up the connection or force themselves through the firewall applications

  • How to use your Treo 750 to browse the internet on your mac

    Hi There,
I am by no means an expert on this, but this is what has worked for me. I'm on Vodafone in New Zealand but I think this setup (or very similar) should work with Cingular in the states or other Windows Mobile v5 devices.
    1. Install The Windows Mobile Modem Scripts Onto Your Mac
Download the Generic Windows Mobile Modem Scripts (3 of them) from: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/
The scripts are under "Windows Smartphones & BlackBerrys" called "Scripts for Windows Mobile phones" (half way down the page)
Once downloaded, put the scripts into >Library >Modem Scripts
    2. Start Bluetooth on the Treo
    Go >Start Menu >Settings >Connections (from the bottom) >Bluetooth
    Tick "Turn on Bluetooth"
Tick "Make this device discoverable to other devices"
    Click OK
    3. Pair The Treo with your Mac (done on the Mac)
If the Bluetooth menu is not already on your mac (near the date and time, top right) go to >System Preferences >Bluetooth
Under the "settings" tab tick "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" and the menu will appear
Once the menu is there, choose "Set up Bluetooth Device..."
Click "Continue" and on the next screen choose "Mobile Phone". Click "Continue"
Make sure the screen on the Treo is on (I've found the mac has trouble discovering the device otherwise)
Choose your phone and click "Continue"
Click continue and enter the pass code on the Treo and click "Next"
Once pared, on the phone click "Finish"
On the mac, make sure "Access the Internet with your phone's data connection" is ticked and click "Continue"
Enter your Vodafone (or Cingular) account username and password (see notes below)
Under phone number enter: *99# (this invokes GPRS or the 3G data connection)
Choose "Windows Mobile GSM 460k" from the "Modem Script" pop up menu
    Click "Continue"
    Click "Quit"
Select the new phone from the Bluetooth Devices list and press the "Edit Serial Ports" button from the left
Click the plus sign under the main window
Name it "Treo750" (or Cingular or Vodafone or whatever you want)
Choose "Modem" from the "Port type" pop up menu
Tick "Require pairing for security" and "Show in Network Preferences"
    Click "Apply"
    4. Configure The Bluetooth Port
    Go >System Preferences >Network
    Choose "Network"
A "New Port Detected" window should pop up, click "OK" (if it doesn't and you have a new "Bluetooth" port, don't worry)
Select the "Bluetooth" port from the list and click "Configure"
Under the PPP tab, click the "PPP Options" button from the bottom
Untick "Send PPP echo packets" and "Use TCP header compression" under "Advanced Options"
    Click "OK"
Click the "Apply Now" button from the bottom right
    Close System Preferences
    5. Connecting to browse the internet from the mac
    Go >Applications >Internet Connect
    Click "Bluetooth" from the top
Tick "Show modem status in menu bar"
    Quit internet connect
Make sure the Treo is on and bluetooth is on (and your data connection is on, see notes below)
Go up to the internet connect menu (the little phone icon) and select "Connect"
    Notes
For the carrier account name and password, I just used the same account info that was on my phone under >Start >Settings >Connections >Connections Icon >Manage existing connections >Edit "VFNZ Internet" (or your carrier name) >Next Screen >Next Screen >Next Screen. On this third screen, I found my account details.
If for you there is nothing, then more than likely your carrier doesn't require a name and password - so on your Mac, leave these fields blank and just enter *99# for the phone number. Although, I think you may have to use something (for Mac & Windows Mobile compatibility) so just try entering username: guest and password: guest. There is much more info regarding this in the readme file that comes with the Windows Mobile modem scripts. Or contact your carrier for your specific details (probably the best thing to do!).
I have found the connection to be a little bit unreliable when the Treo's screen goes to sleep - so I tend to hit a button on the treo every 30 seconds to keep it on - But Vodafone here in NZ has flashed the ROM to make it HSDPA compatible so others may not have this problem.
I had trouble the first time I tried to connect through internet connect. But after I connected through >System Preferences >Network >Bluetooth >Connect button next to the configure button at the bottom, it worked every time from the Internet Connect menu.
Also, you may want to check your email or browse a page on the Treo first, just before connecting from your mac to make sure the data connection is on - I haven't worked this out fully but I'm not sure the Mac can open the data connection itself. Again, this may be a region/carrier specific issue.
    Cheers
    Ben

I've also found The Missing Sync to work much better than Pocket Mac for syncing the Treo to the Mac.

  • I'm unable to browse the internet at home on my Macbook Pro (10.6.3), even though it shows I am connected to the wireless network with full bars.

This problem began weeks ago, when I suddenly couldn't browse the Internet at home despite being fully connected to the network. The network was a private, password-protected wireless network set up through a Netgear router.
I have spent hours troubleshooting and have tried multiple fixes including resetting PRAM, deleting and re-creating Airport, deleting and re-creating networks, changing IP and DNS, etc. to no avail. My roommate's PC works perfectly fine on the same wireless network.
This seems to be an issue with networks I use long-term. I can connect fine to networks at Starbucks, etc. for short-term use. Also, while trying to troubleshoot my connection issues on my home network over the last few weeks, I'd been using my apartment complex's public wireless connection (no password) with no issues. All of a sudden, I am having the same exact issue with that network. It's like something just snaps and maybe gets configured wrong after a few weeks or months of use.
I am desperate to find a fix, since now I can't use the internet AT ALL while at home and need it for work.
Thank you in advance for your help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Unable to browse the internet even though I'm connected the network

I have a new iMac. I can connect to my wireless network via Airport. I can print to my wireless printer but I cannot connect to the internet using a browser (Safari or Firefox). I can ping (e.g., Google.com)successfully but can't connect via a browser. I can connect to a neighbor's unsecured network and browse the internet at will. I have WPA security activated. I have 3 PC's on my home wireless network that connect to the internet with no problem.
I've been on the phone with both Apple and Belkin support all weekend. Apparently the router is working. Apple support has not been able to diagnose my problem. The latest suggestion by Apple technical support is to install Snow Leopard and see what happens.
Has anyone encountered this issue before? I'm new to the iMac world. Always been a PC guy so I'm having difficulty understanding why I can connect to my network but can't browse.

That's interesting I have a similar issue, the wireless suddenly stopped working for me.
I get an IP address assigned, my /etc/resolv.conf file is updated correctly to DNS and I have a properly configured gateway yet I can't ping anything.
This only started happening recently as well.
It is odd that you can ping an address but not surf, have you tried disabling WPA security on your router and seeing if that makes a difference?

  • Why or how could firefox change my proxy settings without me doing anything right in the middle of browsing the internet?

    == Issue

I have another kind of problem with Firefox
    == Description
    ==
While I was browsing the internet suddenly nothing would happen when I clicked a link. Upon closing and opening firefox and trying to load a web page it said "the proxy server is refusing connection. Firefox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections."
I did manage to fix the problem by changing the proxy settings from manual to auto-detect but what disturbs me is how those settings could be changed without me doing so right in the middle of using the internet. I dont know if its a bug or a security issue but I thought I would let you guys know.

  • Can't browse the internet while making a phone call

I AM WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS. I live in the United States and used to have a really cheap phone with this particular carrier and was able to make calls and browse through the internet while on that phone call. Now that i have the new I Phone 6 with that same carrier and i can NO LONGER make a call and browse the internet. This really upsets me since i pay a high bill to have my IPhone plan. I thought it was a problem with my carrier company but the told me that it's an issue with the new IPhone 6.

It's on, but are you actually in an LTE coverage area? What does it say in the status bar? If you're on the CDMA network, you can not talk and use data at the same time. The "cheap" phone you had that allowed you to do that actually had 2 radios in it, as opposed to the iPhone. Of course, even if you are on LTE, the carrier needs to have enabled Voice over LTE service in that area and on your account.
Sprint is pretty consistently the worst carrier in the country.

  • My Itunes is skipping while I browse the internet

My Itunes is skipping while I am on my PC and attempting to browse the internet at the same time.  Any suggestions?

This seems to be a very common problem after upgrading to iTunes 7. Apple offer this help on troubleshooting the problem:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93610
Some people, like me, never completely resolve the problem. I got rid of most of the stuttering except when a large program was loading by following the above advice.
In the end I downgraded back to 6, but this is only possible if you have an iPod that is OK on 6 and you don't want the content offered on V7.

  • ITunes skips, stammers when I browse the Internet

This didn't occur before I upgraded to 7.0+.
I used to be able to browse the internet to my hearts content AND listen to iTunes. No longer.
Looking through Best Buy's weekly ad? Skips.
Searching for something on eBay? Skips.
I don't think I should buy a second computer to listen to iTunes. I have an AMD Athlon 64 processor with 2 GB of RAM. I ought to be able to surf the web and listen to iTunes at the same time...
Does anyone have any ideas? Apple has been unresponsive.

  • Slow browsing the Internet

I have a very, very strange issue with my BT Infinity.
When I browse the Internet, 20% of pages I want to open, it takes like 3-10 seconds where the browser stays at 'waiting for xxxxxx' before loading this page (similar to dns issues when a PC cannot resolve an IP address and waits forever). It is weird as it is not the same page every time. I can e.g. open 10 pages without any issues and then 3 pages are slow as hell. When I try them again, sometimes they are fast sometimes not. No obvious connection here...
What I have checked so far:
    - speedtests show 60Mbps/12Mbps, 7-15ms
    - DNS servers hard coded to google and later to open-dns, tested with nslookup - fast and no issues
    - tested with two wired devices - the same problem
    - ping check ran for 24 hours: 99,9999% received, a few pings dropped only!
    - no speed issues, tested with ftp: download speed was around 7MBps and stable
    - no issues with Skype (including video skype).
    - tried different browsers on these two PCs
Not sure what else I can do. I can imagine it will be a nightmare trying to explain it to a 1st line support BT engineer over the phone...

Well, just a suggestion for something to look at. Do you use any ad-blocking software?
I ask becasue I use a customised hosts file to block most ad-serving sites, and one effect of this is that some websites seem to be coded to wait for a response or a time-out from the advert server before loading their own pages. One forum I use will sit there blank for 15 seconds if it wants to send me a new advert from the Google ad-servers, because I have them blocked via hosts. Some other sites are similarly slow to load.
    It's an irritation, but as it's self-inflicted I can't really complain!

  • Internet connection lost after browsing the internet

Hi, I am fairly new to the mac world. (less than two years) And I have a problem that I was hoping someone can help me with.
I have a Power mac G5 dual processor, with Mac osx panther installed. Everything works great, except when I try to browse the internet. For some strange reason it will drop my connection and to bootm I also have a G5 server that I am connected to, but as soon as I lose my internet connection I also lose my connection to my server. Now I know it can't be the router since other computers keep their connection while mine drops randomly.
Our office has a basic setup, computers and server plugged into a switch, the switch goes to the 2wire (router/DSL combo) device. The firewall is within the 2wire and the server's and computers' firewall are disabled, since the 2wire has the firewall protection the whole subnet.
    Please help
    Thank you
    G5 Server   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I had this same issue on an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop with an atheros chipset for which I was using ndiswrapper. Long story short I downgraded to kernel 2.6.24 and that fixed the problem .
Sorry not much help...I have no idea where the culprit is, but it is a very annoying problem.

  • My iPad air keeps crashing and freezing when browsing the internet . Please help :(

My husband and I updated to the new OS. Now our iPad Air's keep crashing and freezing whilst browsing the internet.  We have done a reset and swiped away pages but nothing is helping. Its very frustrating Can anyone help? Thank you Jo

Please tell me that it has NEVER been jailbroke.  If it has not been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, confirm that this is what you did for a "reset."  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, since you have IOS-7, read this.
