Problem buying Extending Warranty on Laptop

I brought a B570 laptop a few months ago as an opened box purchase that had been returned to supplier,  this was fine and a couple of weeks ago I looked at buying an extended laptop warranty and when I was on the site It said my warranty expired on the 19/11/2012 so I thought Id have a think about it as I had some time.  I tried last night (a day in advance) to get on but had difficulties getting on so I tried first thing this morning at work (with a previously saved bookmark but now it lists the warranty as expired and wont let me extend it [Warranty Status is expired & expiration date is TODAY]).
I have tried to ring the UK helpline, but it indicated they weren't actually Lenovo and I was offered no guarantee that they could help but they would try if I emailed details of the machine and purchase and it would take some time to get back to me before they could indicate if they could possibly extend the warranty (not sure this wasn't with them as a company).
So I thought Id try posting on this forum as it seems someone with a similar issue managed for a Lenovo staff member to help them out.
All I want to do is purchase the additional 2 years warranty for my B570 (I have a copy of the text from when I looked before and it offered 2 more years for £55.86 that I would like to try and buy)
Thanks
Simon

Not out of the love of spending more, I always get AppleCare, and I've usually had reason to use it in the final year or so. While I'm generally a self-sufficient user, there are sometimes questions that I need Apple to answer, and they always arise after the original warranty has expired. If you have AppleCare there is no reason to be concerned that it "may invalidate the credit card protection side of it." In fact, some credit cards actually extend AppleCare itself by one additional year.
I think it is still true that you can purchase AppleCare at any point during the life of the original warranty. There are also places that sell AppleCare for less than Apple does itself.

  • Best Buy Extended Warranty isn't worth the paper it's written on

My daughter bought me an iPad 3, when it first came out, for Mother's Day.  She was talked into buying the Best Buy Warranty instead of the Apple warranty.  For the past 3 months I've been having nothing but trouble with my iPad so my daughter said I needed to hurry to Best Buy before the expensive extended warranty runs out.
I went to the Best Buy on 62nd and Broadway (NYC) and, after waiting and hitting the counter a couple of times, was able to speak to a tech.  I use the title tech loosely here.
He first said that my problems were a result of the new software update, then it was too many apps, next it was "Hey, after two year the battery is going to be slow".  So, essentially, it will lock up, freeze, shut itself off, need to be charged twice as much as it used to and be unresponsive to my finger tough (as well as my stylus).  He himself saw the issue as he would have to swipe a number of times to clear the screens - so he ran the "Geek Squad Triage App".  According to my app, the ipad is fine.
So now, after an hour of watching him just move screens and open apps, and putting my entire iPad back to factory default, I was told "Oh well, we can't do anything at all unless we see the issue happen in front of us."  "You have to recreate the problem and then we will take it and send it away for repairs."
This was NOT what my daughter was told would happen - she was assured that if there were a problem, and they could not fix it there, they would take the iPad and replace it with a refurbished iPad - which APPLE would have done.  They need to do some honest advertising - you will have to bring the iPad to us, we'll stare blankly at it for awhile, we'll reset it, we'll open and close apps and then send you home saying good luck.
I am beyond furious and intend to file complaints with the store, the Geek Squad Co., the BBB and, just to be certain that people are not taken advantage of again - as my daughter was - at every location I can find that asks which Warranty to choose, or allows me to review this warranty.
Shame on you Best Buy and Shame on you Geek Squad - you've taken advantage of a young person, not to mention a wounded veteran, to make a couple of dollars more off of her.  She is absolutely heartsick that this happened - and I could not be more angry if I tried.
Up until now I've always went to Best Buy for all of my electronics, my TV, my Computer, my Laptops - but after this I cannot justify going there again.
Stay away from any Extended Warranties or Geek Squad members at Best Buy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dear Ftrainryder,
I’m sure if I had received such a nice gift, like an iPad with Geek Squad Protection (GSP), I would also be angered after being turned away when trying to receive service. Please pass my apologies onto your daughter if she feels that she was misled when purchasing the GSP for your iPad.
The information she was given about the protection plan is correct. This being said, the Geek Squad agent should have sent your iPad out for service if he was experiencing the same issues as you had described. I am so very sorry that you didn’t receive that option.
The agents are supposed to do what they can to replicate the problem our customers are experiencing with their products before sending anything out. It sounds as though he spent a healthy amount of time troubleshooting with you and testing your device. The Geek Squad app is a good tool that both employees and customers can use to test the widespread functions of our mobile devices. The issues that he spoke of can happen; however, they generally aren’t issues you will always experience after owning a device for an extended period of time.
I would like reach out to the store leadership at the Upper West Side (Store 1448) about your recent visit. As such, I’ll be sending you a private message to get some more details from your interaction with the agent. • Misuse of clause in extended warranty of laptop by service centre to harass and cheat customer

Please read it completely as this is from a Frustrated, Harassed, Cheated customerThis is with reference to case ID: 4756281406-471. The laptop against this case ID is under extended warranty. This laptop was given for repair to MI road Jaipur service centre of HP on 20th July 2015.My complaint is regarding the way your authorised service centre treats customer, as In spite of everyday following them up, till Saturday i.e. 25th July 2015 they kept on saying that mail regarding motherboard change has been sent & acceptance from authorities is still awaited. After chasing thru the call centre, very conveniently unilaterally they put the blame on customer that extended warranty is voided as they found liquid spillage on mother board.  Because for the laptop under extended warranty your service station does not tell or show to customer that laptop has been mishandled by customer when they are accepting the laptop for repair. Subsequently after keeping the laptop at their service station they conveniently later blame customer for mishandling under the clause that, the standard warranty does not extend to any HP Hardware Product that has been damaged or rendered defective as a result of accident, misuse, liquid spills, abuse, contamination, or other external causes.Poor honest customer like me who has not mishandled the laptop feels cheated. The service centre did not show/tell me any kind of mishandling when they received the laptop from me and then after keeping the laptop in service station they unilaterally decide that customer has mishandled. For laptop under extended warranty when the service centre know that such clause exists why they are not making the provision of showing at the time of accepting the laptop from customer, that the fault is due to mishandling of laptop by customer.I also forwarded this information to [email protected] but did not receive any reply from them. Is this the way HP treats its customer that they do not have courtesy to reply customer mail.I will be using a few harsh words against your after sales service setup. I will request you to pardon me for that. May be you are not aware of these activities being done at your service centre. As an honest and aware customer I would like to bring certain aspects to your notice.I have never mishandled this laptop. Your service centre is telling a lie. In case any mishandling has been done it is at your service station. Please take action to stop this kind of fraudulent activities at your service centre. This kind of harassment to customer will make customer run away from hp Laptops. For laptop under extended warranty please make provision at service centres of showing at the time of accepting the laptop from customer, that the fault is due to mishandling of laptop by customer. Otherwise stop such extended warranty schemes. I purchased your laptop only due to extended warranty scheme. If this scheme was not their then I would not have purchased hp laptop.I know HP is a big company; they do not bother about small customer. But still I would like to hope you will take out some time to look into this case specifically. My laptop is still at the service station in Jaipur and I hope you will do the needful to repair my laptop free of cost as it is in extended warranty. I did not mishandle laptop and your service centre did not show/tell me of my mishandling at the time of receiving laptop. From Frustrated, Harassed, cheated customer

  • Can you buy extended warranty  when you purchase a refurbished Ipad  2

Can ypu buy extened warranty for your ipad2 from Apple even if you bought it from a store that sold it as refurbished?. It came with a 90 day warranty.

Apple sells the warranty for machines it has refurbished.  You will have to deal with the store where you bought the refurbished iPad, or talk to an Apple store genius bar tech and see what they may offer.

  • Extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C

    Hi
I am new here so sorry if I posted it under wrong thread.
I want to buy extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C (1+1 standard warranty) so I wanna ask which warranty package gives the longest protection for this model.
2+2 is the longest? ID: SE5054I-PDB.
Secondly, and more importantly, the laptop is more than 1 year old. When i was buying it, in retail store they told me that the extended warranty can be activated at any time, but now I see that there is this 30 days deadline policy. Is there any way how to overcome?
    Thanks

  • Where's the extended warranty for Porteges?

I bought a Portege A200 but can't find warranty extension to purchase. Surely this can't be right?
    Diz

    Hello Diz
I assume that you live in UK because, as far as I know, Portege A200 is build just for UK. As far as I know one extended warranty has to be bought separately and registered by Toshiba. Every customer has 6 months time to buy extended warranty or some different services after purchase.
Please contact your local dealer or Toshiba directly. I am pretty sure that they can help you.
    Good luck!

  • I have a laptop mac 3 years old i did not pay the extend warranty plan, so know i can't update the iPhone 5 because thai do not accepted a update for iTunes the new version what i have to do call to apple or make repair

i have a laptop mac 3 years old i did not pay the extend warranty plan, so know i can't update the iPhone 5 because thai do not accepted a update for iTunes the new version what i have to do call to apple or make repair

You need to be running Mac OS X 10.6.8 or newer to sync the iPhone 5; this may require buying a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store. OS upgrades aren't covered by the warranty.

  • If you buy an IPad online would it have an Apple warranty and can you get extended warranty from Apple

If you buy an iPad online would it have an Apple warranty. Can you get extended warranty?

If you buy it from the Apple Online store yes it will have full 1 year warranty, and the possibility to directly buy Apple Care +.
If you buy it from somewhere else, it may not. If the online seller is not an Apple authorized reseller then you may need to take to to an Apple Store for physical inspection before purchasing the Apple Care Plus extension.
If its not sealed and new, the warranty timer may have started to elapse, and it may not be eligible for Apple Care +.
But without knowing where you plan to buy it its hard to say for sure.

  • Can I purchase an Apple Care extended warranty for an iPad Air if I purchase it at Best Buy?

CAn I buy an Apple Care extended warranty for an iPad Air if I purchase it at Best Buy?

For me? Buying from best buy was my only option since the closest apple store is over an hour away. (and technically in another state)
Also, when I bought my iPod the warranty that Best Buy offered was far more comprehensive than Apple Care with accidental damage protection for up to 3 years.
And, when my iPad's charging port messed up, I took it into Best Buy and they swapped me out for a new one while at an Apple store I likely would have gotten a refurb.
When I swapped out my iPod 4 for my iPod 5 I took it into best buy, got $70 towards the purchase of the new device by trading in the old one.
Best Buy isn't perfect and not every store is a good one, but they are a good alternative or other option to explore for those buying devices.
I think my biggest beef when buying my iPad and later iPod at Best Buy is when I bought my iPad I bought the screen protector and they wanted to charge me to apply it...and it kinda rankled for me to be plunking down over $600 dollars to have them want to charge me $15 for a screen protector install.

  • Where to buy?  BestBuy or Apple?  Extended Warranty?

just curious what the forum thinks? the extended warranty at bestbuy is $40, at apple it is 60. hmmm... is it worth the extra 20 to buy at apple?

You should go with the best buy PRP(product replacement plan). Not apple's over priced care plan. If anything excluding theft or abuse happens to your nano you will get a new one free, including wear and tear and battery or memory issues. Thus the name replacement. Apple's care plan is also for two years but you have to ship it to them and you will be with out a nano for a while. Plus they may just send you a refurb. When best buy sends in an apple product for service it does not go to their service center, it goes to apple's service center therefore NOT voiding your warranty. But the nano does not have a PSP(Product service plan) it has a PRP. Even if it did void the warranty you wouldnt have to worry b/c you would be covered for 3 years under the PSP with best buy. But in the case of the Nano I would go to best buy and get the PRP for it. It is the best way to go. But you may want to go to an apple store for accessories, like cases they will have a better selection early on, but for most other accessories best buy will have better prices.

  • I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty?

I'm looking to buy a new Macbook Pro, and have questions about the Applecare extended warranty? I want to know if the 3 year extended warranty covers what damage. Like water damage, accidental damage, lost or stolen macbook, manufactory defects, or any other kind of damage, maybe be even cosmetic damage. Can anyone help me?

If you are talking about features of the MBP itself, as long as you are not looking at  the Retina models, then the memory you can upgrade yourself for a lot less than Apple charges, and that does not affect the warranty as Apple considers memory a user permitted upgrade.  Great sources are Crucial and OWC, both are Mac specialists and have on-line videos on how to do the install.
If the 15" is what you are looking at, a good upgrade is the 7200 rpm hard drive, gives a little better performance over the standard 5400 rpm drive.
The Hi Res screen is good if you do a lot of graphics work.
Comparing the 13" amd 15" you will notice the 15" has a second, discrete graphic processor...helps when you get into heavy duty videos, games, graphics...but keep in mind that kicking in the second processor uses a lot of power and will run the battery down faster.
If you are looking at the Retina models, then keep in mind there are no post-purchase upgrade options...you have to buy with everything you want at the start.
    Just some thoughts.

  • Is Laptop adapter covered in extended warranty

I have a 3 year extended warranty for my laptop and my adapter has stopped working. Is the laptop charger covered in the warranty or do i need to purchase a new one ?

    Hey @Vaibhav_Gupta ,
I can't find any information that confirms they are covered under the extended warranty but I can confirm they are covered under the 1 year factory warranty.
THe extended warranty details only specifies Hardware parts and labor.
Your best bet would be to call an HP Phone Support rep as they deal with warranties unlike the forums, and would be the ones to process the exchange. You can contact HP Technical Support at 1-800-474-6836 in North America. For all other regions click here.

  • Flex 2 14 - Extended Warranty

    Hi,
I purchased a Flex 2 14 laptop in July 2014 during a promotional period in India where an additional extended warranty for 2 years was being provided on this machine.
Now trying to get that additional warranty has become an absolute pain where i seem to be going around in circles. The status for the same being that the extended warranty would be provided within 21 days post validation of documents, I would like to paste the communication that has been ongoing with Lenovo Support team for the same. I have highlighted the statements below for reference. The email sent by the Lenovo Team on 3rd September states that my crednetials have been verified successfully on August 19th and that i would receive the extended warranty within 21 days. After waiting for 21 days and nore i sent the Lenovo team an email again requesting them fr the status and the respone that i reeived from Lenovo Team on September 12th stating that my documents had been sent to Verification team and it is waiting approval. You can clearly see from these mails that it is not being driven to a conclusion.

I would be grateful if you could explain why we are going round in circles here when the email response from your team above clearly states that the documents have been validated on 8/19/2014 and that I would received warranty document within 21 days.

You can clearly see that i am being sent around in circles on this topic. It really scares me that if this is the case with just getting the Additional warranty in place what would actually happen if i ever had an actual problem with the laptop.
I hope someone from Lenovo will look into this concern and help.

I dont think a display model is a good buy, no matter how cheap it is.
Every now and then I come across non-functioning display models. My advice would be to return it and buy it new.
You could try contacting warranty services but I won't recommend that. A display model can have deep inherited problems since there are so many people who access it and use it without care.

  • Valid extended warranty?

I bought an HP laptop at Best Buy in Miami in April 2007.  I purchased an extended warranty as well.  When I turn my lap on, 'system not found' appears in the top left corner of a blank screen.  I've had the lap reformatted and within 2 or 3 days it's back to the 'system not found'.  As I'm currently living in Mexico, I took it to the HP office and they said they would have to open it up.  I said no because I was sure that would affect my warranty.  My problem is that I cannot find my original sales reciept with the extendend warranty attached.  Is there anyway that Best Buy would have me in their files for having purchased an HP with an extended warranty?  Should I get in call the Best Buy store in Miami where I purchased it?  Would I be able to take it to a Best Buy in another state?
Any info would be greatly appreciated,
    Andrea McGarvie

That depends, if your just reformatting from the built in program like my friend did, it won't do much. I used to do it all the time on my Dell. It did the same exact thing. So I finally got ahold of a copy of Windows XP Home Edition, booted from the CD, and did a COMPLETE Hard Drive Format. Sure enough, it worked perfectly from there on out. But your best bet if you don't want to spend an extra $100, then just take it to your local Best Buy store, and take it to the Geek Squad counter.
    Hope this helps!
