Problem: Canon Pixma MG 3550 and OS X Yosemite

Hi
I have recently updated to Yosemite 10.10 and I can't reinstall my Canon Pixma MG 3550 Printer. I have tried downloading all software from the Canon website, but my Macbook can never find the printer when trying to install it. I printed the printer settings and it is on the Network, but status is inactive.
The error messages I receive while trying to install is either that the Driver is not installed, or that no printers can be found.
Any help for a not-so-technical person?
Many thanks,
Peter

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test. If you still have problems it may just a matter of updating Flash.

    Hi
I have a problem with color prints from photoshop elements 12. The pictures are too light and with strange colors. I have a Canon pixma mg615I0 printer and use mac os X yosemite. The pictures are taken with a coanon eos 550d in the color space sRGB. I have followed adobes recommendations and have tried both letting the printer respektive photoshop manage the colors. But nothing works. I see that there are different opinions about which is best to do so I tried both. I have the latest printer driver installed. Can anyone help me with this?

    Do the following:
Print a test page from the printer. Perhaps the print head needs cleaning via its maintenance facility.
Let the printer manage colors, not PSE
    Calibrate the monitor

I have a Canon Pixma MX 880 and when I try to change or delete photos on my SD card, I get the following error:
"You need permission to perform this action" and below that:
"You require permission from the computer's administrator to make changes to this file".
    Printer is set up wireless.
I am signed on as administrator, can't get access with any user account.
The old problem ridden HP Photosmart I replaced, I could change, delete, etc. without issues.

    hi ehnco,
It sounds like the Read/Write attribute on the printer needs to be changed.  Use the following steps to change the read/write attribute:
Make sure that the machine is turned on
    Press the <Setup> button.
Use the   button to select  [ Device settings], then press the <OK> button.
The Device settings screen is displayed.
Use the  button to select [Device user settings], then press the <OK> button.
Use the  button to select [Read / write attribute], then press the <OK> button.
Use the  button to select [Writable from LAN PC], then press the <OK> button.

  • I have a Canon Pixma i4700 printer and since buying my iMac I'm finding it difficult to print photographs without a severe warm (red) tone.

I have a Canon Pixma i4700 printer and since buying my iMac I'm finding it difficult to print photographs without a severe warm (red) tone.
    What am I doing wrong?

I can't give you detailed instructions, but there should be a way to print a built-in test page. If the color is off on that, the printer has an internal problem such as a clogged head.

  • Unable to print with my Canon PIXMA IP 4700 and JetDirect network appliance

After many tries I decided to post my question.
I have a Canon PIXMA IP 4700 connected to the network with a Jetdirect 175X box. So I tried to add a new printer with a "HP Jetdirect Socket" port. I have previously installed the driver from the official website. The test page is staying on the spooler.
I also tried with LPD port (supported by the Jetdirect box) and IPP but nothing is working.
When the printer is directly connected with USB, it's working fine. Printing from my others Windows computers is working fine too since many months.
    Thank your for your help.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Your problem is being caused by the Canon driver. It cannot be used when the printer is connected to the USB port of a 3rd party print server, or if shared by Windows.
The solution is to use a driver like Gutenprint or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free (it ships with OS X) however the iP4700 is not listed as a supported model. The iP4600 is listed so you could try selecting this model in the Print Using menu (shown as Canon PIXMA iP4600 - Gutenprint v5.2.3). If the iP4600 Gutenprint driver does not work that well then you could look at using [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] which does support the iP4700. It costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so at least you can try it before committing to buying.
Another option would be to use a Airport device, like the Express, instead of the Jetdirect print server. With the printer connected to its USB port you can then use the Canon iP4700 driver on the Mac.

  • HI, I have a Canon Pixma MG5250 printer and it doesn't seem to recognize iPhoto. All my photos are in iPhoto but I can't access them when the printer's 'photo print' box comes up.  Any suggestions? thanks

    Hi,
    I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8
I now have a Canon Pixma Printer MG 5250 and it doesn't seem to recognize iPhoto, where all my folders of photos are in the computer.
All other aspects of the printer such as scanning and printing documents are working.  When I open the printer's
'photo print' box on my Mac, it cannot access iPhoto.
I would really appreciate any feedback and suggestions as to what to do.
    thanks.

If you want to print a photo that's in your library you should do so from iPhoto.  Select the photo, crop to the size you want to print and type Command+P to start the print process.  In the Print window select the paper size and print size, printer and then click on the Print button.

  • Canon Pixma ip 1600 and Pixma ip 4200 and AE

Does anyonw have either of these (Pixma ip 1600 and Pixma ip 4200) printers that work with the AE as a wireless printer server? I was thinking about buying one of them, but these printers with AE are so finnicky.
    thx roger

What time frame are you thinking about? The Canon web site also lists the iP5200r, which, like the iP4000r, will have networking built in. From various shopping sites it looks like it will be out late Sept.
Iterestingly Best Buy already has the ink tanks for the new Canon printers at about $2 more than the ink tanks used by the iP4000. So you might want to get the iP4000r.

  • Canon Pixma MP-540 (and other) does not work with Cups 1.4

Since Cups 1.4 my printer does not work
its 100% about Cups 1.4 beceause after an downgrade to 1.3 it worked perfect. After upgrade to 1.4 again nothing worked.
So my question, could there be maybe a package called cups-legacy. I heard about other Canon printers + non canon printers which not work with Cups 1.4 in case of binary distributed drivers

I had a similar problem with my MP780 and solved it by adding a custom udev rule. See http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Cup … ermissions. This is my udev rule:
    SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ENV{DEVTYPE}=="usb_device", ATTR{idVendor}=="04a9", ATTR{idProduct}=="1707", GROUP:="lp", MODE:="0660"
    and lsusb output:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04a9:1707 Canon, Inc. PIXMA MP780 Scanner
. Hopefully this will be fixed by hal/devicekit/udev upstream but it all seems a bit of a jumble atm, to me anyway.

  • Canon Pixma MG5250 scans and prints images wrongly stretched/contracted

    hi!
i have a problem with my pixma 5250 which is an all in one. When i scan an image, what i get on my screen is an image with the correct width, but with a shorter height.
    see this image:
i have tried two different programs to print, tried updating the driver, fiddled with scanning settings on the printer, tried several different scanning settings in the software, tried different images, but to no avail.
When i try to print, however, it seems that the effect goes the other way round: now the images i want to print are strechted along the vertical axis, but still of the same width.
    see this image:
Anyone got an idea what could cause this problem? Is it a hardware thing? A driver malfunction? Maybe my OS (Win XP)? I must add that i have issues with my hard drive, and with my usb drives (i connect with my printer via wifi btw) .
Anyone has a clue? I'd be grateful.

    Hi thom36,
Regarding the scanning issue, I suspect what is happening is that the scanner is incorrectly detecting the end of the image at the top, causing it to crop incorrectly.  Assuming you are using the MP Navigator software to scan, you should see a checkbox in the scan window for "Scan with Scanner Driver.  If you put a checkmark in the box, then press Scan it will open Scangear.  Within Scangear, press Preview to preview the entire image, then drag a box around the part that you want to include.   Press Scan to finish scanning.  Everything within the box should now be included in the final scan.
Regarding the picture you are printing, the dimensions of the original don't match the dimensions of the printed picture, so I suspect what is happening there is that it's stretching the picture to fill the whole paper.  This can occur when you select borderless printing.  If you print the picture without using borderless printing it will give you a true reproduction of the image.   One thing to note when you do this is to make sure that the size of the picture matches the size of the paper you are using.  For example, if you are printing on 4x6 paper, which I am guessing is the case in the example you provided, make sure that the picture size is no larger than 4x6, or else the entire picture will not fit onto the paper when you print it bordered.

  • Synch Problem - Canon 7D, Zoom H1 and Final Cut Pro 7

    Hello,
I'm about to pull out my hair here. Been on many forums and sites with noluck on fixing this annoying issue. Yesterday I shot an interview on my Canon7D with my new Zoom H1 recorder. The recorder has been set to MP3 output at 128kbps. The Canon is set to 30fps.
I've set the Easy Setup option on FCP 7  to 23.98 and 29.97 (onseparate trouble shooting occasions before coming to this forum forassistance). On both occasions, the video starts playing the audio in synch butby about 1:26, the audio and video start to fall out of synch. The interviewget's pretty bad at about the 3 minute mark and completely ridiculous by theend.
Has anyone here ever dealt with this issue? I know I'm doing something verywrong....just need some advice on how to fix it.
Thanks for reading and hope there's some assistance out there.

    Hi Russ,
Thanks for replying. Audio drift is exactly what Im experiencing. Maybe I should shoot at 24fps from now on and convert my wav to aiff before dragging it into the timeline....
as for the picking one or the other, I'm hoping you mean when FCP asks you to choose the setting created for the job or if you want to keep it the same as what you shot.
I used both a waveform inspection method with the slate that I use as well as plural eyes. I've tried about 5 different combinations and settings and nothing seems to prevent the audio drifting.
Dont know what else to do really except try your suggestion to change the WAV to an AIFF.
    Here goes nothing...
    (thanks again)

  • Canon PIXMA MX850 fax and FiOS - "No Dial Tone"

I have a new multi-function printer and FiOS Internet, Phone and TV. My old analog phones work just fine and get a dial tone through all the phone jacks, but the fax doesn't recognize the dial tone. I've read about micro-filter and splitting devices for DSL connections; will they help with my problem?
    Hope someone has advice!
    Thanks!

On your vioce phones, do you get a dial tone the exact second you pick up the phone, or is there a delay, like a incoming voicemail msg that needs to be listened to?  I'm willing to bet that your phone system tells you you have unheard voicemail messages by adding a delay before voicemail, and that will affect your fax machine.  Clear your voicemail and try again.

  • Problems with Canon Pixma iP4300

I just purchased a new Canon Pixma iP4300 printer and can't find it in Printer Setup Utility to add as a new printer.
When I connect it directly to my MacBook Pro (Core Duo) it is invisible. I have downloaded the latest drivers available from Canon. Given the point below I am fairly certain it is not a problem with my USB cable either because the printer is recognised when I plug my USB printer cable into the Airport Express.
Confusingly, I can connect to it through my Airport Express base-station using Bonjour. A problem with this connection is that it does not allow me to use the utilities - so, for example, I can't align the print heads - or use any of the other software that came with the printer because it doesn't recognise the printer over the wireless network.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

And as soon as I posted this I found a spare USB cable and tried that... and it worked.
I guess the USB cable connects properly with the Airport Express and not with my MacBook Pro. Curious. Very curious.

  • Macbook Air and the Canon Pixma MG2200

    Hi,
I moved to England and am still using a Macbook Air from the US. I recently purchased a Canon Pixma MG2200 printer and would like to use it...however it will not work on my mac. I've download the necessary software, restarted my computer, purchased the correct usb chords, etc. It just simply won't appear on my computer at all. Any advice?

I had a similar problem with my Canon printer but after it had been working.  It stopped wirelessly connecting to my MBA but did connect wirelessly to our MacBook.  I turned it and my MBA off, waited, turned them back on and it did not fix the problem.  Then we had some electrical work done on the house and the power was out for 15 minutes.  That fixed it!  So the first action I suggest you unplug it, wait a minute or more and then plug it in again.
I found it useful to install the software form the CD provided with the printer rather than downloading the drivers.  The download options were confusing with different drivers for different functions and the scanner did not work from the System Preferences > Print & Scan menu until I installed the software from the CD.
If all else fails contact Canon.  It could be DOA and clearly is covered under the Canon warranty.

  • Snow leopard and Canon pixma pro drivers, which one is it recognizing?

I have a new MacBook Pro. I print with Canon Pixma Pro 9000 and 9500.
My question is regarding the print drivers.
I plug both Pixma pros in and the computer recognizes them.
However, I also downloaded the latest print drivers for the two print drivers off the Canon website.
Which printer driver is the computer using? The one that somehow comes with the computer or the one I downloaded from Canon.
Or does it matter? My concern is that I want the paper profiles to be correct.

Can anyone positivly confirm that they have got this printer to work with 10.5.6? I have downlaosed latest drivers from Canon and Apple (on the apple list is says Canon Pro9000 Series II but omits the word PIXMA - and when I get this into the PRINT USING box on add printer and hit 'Add' nothing happens.
We have the Pro 9500 II that we use for proofing and I've got it on a 10.6.5 Mac and it's using the v10.36.2.0 driver that it downloaded from Apple when I connected it.
If your Mac does not see or let you add the printer after manually browsing to it then something is amiss with your Mac. I suggest you try a reset of the printing system using the following procedure.
    1. Unplug the Pro9000 USB cable from the Mac
    2. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    3. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    4. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse
    5. Click the "Reset printing system ..." popup
    6. Restart your Mac
    7. Reconnect the Pro9000 USB cable to the Mac
The Mac should automatically add the printer to the Print & Fax pane, assuming the printer is being seen by the Mac - and you are definitely connecting the USB cable of the Pro9000 directly to the Mac.
If the Mac does not add the printer automatically then open System Profiler (Applications > Utilities) and select the USB entry under Hardware in the left pane. The right pane will then show all the USB busses on the Mac. The printer should be shown connected to one of these busses. If it is not shown then try another USB cable and another USB socket on the Mac.

  • How to set up Yosemite 10.10.1 to print and scan using CANON PIXMA MP780 (on MacBook Pro). Thanks. Bozdogan

How to set up Yosemite 10.10.1 to print and scan using CANON PIXMA MP780 on MacBook Pro (Pre-Yosemite operating system OS X10.6.8)?
Yosemite 10.10.1 doesn't seem to support MP780. Also, CANON doesn't have a driver for Yosemite 10.10.1 for its MP 780 series.
    Thanks. Bozdogan  (at [email protected])

I believe you should be able to print wirelessly using your MBP and printer. However, you will want to visit the Canon home site and download the current drivers and firmware for your printer. Once you've done this, I hope you'll post back with your results.

You're going to need both drivers and firmware.
