Basically the camera is not even detecting in the software , not really sure what to do??

From Cannon Web
Issue: What folder are the videos stored in on the camcorder?
Solution: List of the directory and file structure of AVCHD camcorders
For users who wish to "drag and drop" the video files created by the camcorder the videos can be located by drilling down thru the following folders.
Double click on the removeable disc drive icon to display the root folder of the drive.
Double click on the [AVCHD] folder
Double click on the [BDMV] folder.
Double click on the [STREAM] folder. The video files are located in this folder with a .mts file extension.
- Depending on the software you are using the file extension may need to be renamed to .m2ts to be useable in your playback or editing software.

  • What are the settings for capturing video from Canon HV20

    Hi All,
I want to capture video from Canon HV20 with Premiere Elements 11. What kind of settings should I use to capture the video with full information?
    Here is what I did:
    1) According the manual, I went to Capture settings panel (Edit > Project Settings > Capture) and selected HDV as capture format, because my video is at high definition.
    2) In addition, I checked "Capture to Timeline" and "Split Scenes by cotent".
    Are these settings enough?
    Thanks.

Sounds reasonable, using Add Media/HDV Camcorder, but....
Have you reviewed the Adobe write up on Premiere Elements 11 DV and HDV capture firewire into it.
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
The mention of Get Media instead of Add Media makes me wonder if the video's instructor was demo'ing from Premiere Elements 10, but...
Major factors have always included having Premiere Elements project preset set correctly to correspond to your camera settings...For HDV data capture firewire...
NTSC HDV HDV 1080p30 or PAL HDV HDV 1080p25 depending on if you are targeting a NTSC or PAL area where frame rates are typically a consideration.
I had not done any DV or HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements. But, Premiere Elements 11's take over of the project preset setting would encourage me to encourage you to verify your project settings before the capture.
There are probably many more, but the following is online discussion of one Canon HV20 issue
    http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/316970-video-capture-problems-HV20-camcorder-is-control led-but-no-video-capture
If you experience difficulty with the HDV capture fireware into Premiere Elements 11, you might consider what some others have done in this regard, that is, use HDVSplit for the capture firewire and then import the split (.m2t) clips "Add Media" into Premiere Elements 11 with the appropriate HDV HDV 1080p (1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9) project preset.
Please update us on your progress when you get a chance.
    Thanks.

  • Problems Capturing Video from a Canon GL1

    Hi All,
I have posted this topic once before on the iMovie Discussion Forum. Please refer to this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=547019&tstart=75
I haven't been able to get an answer so far. Does any one in this Discussion area know how to solve my problem?
(Problem is: video captured from the GL1 shows two vertical black bands on the left and right side of the frame, an effect similar to pillarboxing. It almost looks as if I'm only getting 640 by 480 instead of 720 by 480 pixels. This happens regardless of whether DV was shot in 4:3 or 16:9. I also own a Sony DCR-PC101 camcorder, and the video captured from that camera using the same settings (in iMovie and/or FCE) fills the entire 720 px horizontal width with no vertical bands, so I know it's not a software or a settings problem, but a camcorder problem.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

    Hello, Dave
Have you taken a tape shot on the GL-1 and used the
Sony camera to capture the footage via firewire? Do
the vertical stripes show up when shooting 4:3?
Yes, I have done that and yes, the vertical stripes still appear. The vertical stripes appear both in 4:3 and 16:9 footage.
If the vertical lines don't show up on your NTSC
preview monitor, I wouldn't worry about it. They are
probably outside of the safe area and won't affect
    its viewability much.
You are probably right, Dave, it's quite possible that the vertical stripes are outside of the safe area in 4:3. However, I am new to 16:9. Is this the case also in 16:9? I am talking about maybe 20 or 30 pixels wide black bands on either side of the frame.
If you are capturing the video via analog from the
canon into some type of DV bridge, These vertical
bands are normal and represent horizontal sync
    characteristics.
No, I am capturing the video directly through Firewire.
Canon does several tings in anunique way that differs
from what a person would expect. You may have
stumbled onto one of Canon's quirks.
I think you are right about that too. I emailed Canon technical support a little Quicktime movie containing two shots, one from the GL-1 and one from the Sony, but I haven't heard back from them yet...
    Hope this helps. Post back.
    Regards,
    Dave F
    Thanks for your post, Dave.

  • Downloading video from Canon Vixia HV 30 via HDMI to Mini DisplayPort

Laptop Specs: White MacBook 10.6.6, 2 x USB, Mini DisplayPort, Audio In/Out
    Camera: Canon Vixia HV30
I recently upgraded my MacBook and my new MacBook doesn't have a firewire input. I had downloaded video from my Canon Vixia HV30 to iMovie using an HDV/DV to Firewire chord.
Since the new MacBook doesn't have a firewire input, I tried an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort chord. The MacBook (via Finder, iMovie, and Final Cut Express) doesn't recognize that there is a camera connected.
    Any ideas?

That's a miniDV camera. MiniDV ALWAYS needs Firewire - there's no way around it. There are no USB to Firewire converters. If you very recently (last 14 days) bought the Macbook, and you absolutely want to continue using the camera, you could perhaps return the MB and see if the 13" Macbook Pro is within your budget.
Modern consumer HD cameras tend to use USB connections.

  • Transferring from Canon Vixia M40 to Adobe Premiere Pro CS4?

I cannot figure this out. I'm trying to transfer files from the built in memory on my Canon HF M40 to my MAC. I am trying to import it into Adobe Premiere CS4 and it's just not happening...it imports into iMovie just fine, but I don't want to use that program, anyone have any ideas?

    I'm sorry.
Well I have my camera hooked via USB to my Macbook. When I turn on my camera with iMovie open, it automatically has an import window pop up with  the option to import the clips into iMovie, which is not what I would like to do. I would like to import (what I believe to be MTS video files) from my Canon Vixia to my computer or directly into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4. I have no error messages. My old Canon Powershot camera imported using iPhoto, but I guess this video camera is different since it is HD video files. I don't know what other information to give?

  • Import MTS video from Canon Vixia HF200 to iMovie

I am a recent convert from Windows to Mac. I was surprised to find out that my old MPG video taken over the years, and recent high definition video taken with a reasonably new Canon movie camera in MTS format, could not be easily imported into iMovie on my MacBook Pro, something that was quite easy on my Windows 7 computer. iMovie could not read the files. I purchased the new MacBook due to its capability to produce, among other things, superior movies for family use, You Tube, and similar. I bought the Canon HF200 as it recorded to a SDHC disk that made it easy, at least on my Windows computer, to transfer unedited files to my external hard drive storage system, then edit as necessary on any of the commonly available movie rendering software programs. After some internet research on the problem, and not wanting to give up on my Mac so soon, I solved the dilemma by purchasing a software package called iSkysoft Video Converter which made the conversion from MTS as well as my older MPG and all other video formats that I had, virtually seamless. In doing further research, it appears that I can convert my MTS video to either MP4 (M4V) or MOV without any degration that I could notice. I understand that there are other software packages that also convert video in a similar manner. My criticism is that with Apple's very good reputation as an excellent computer to be used for video and other media production, why is it necessary to perform this added step. While I was able to make a good conversion, the process just adds extra files and extra time to taking a movie, then producing a video.

  • How to upload video from Canon Vixia HF R52 to DropBox

Just purchased a new Vixia HF R52 aand want a fast way to upload videos to send to friends.
My choice is Dropbox. How to get vidios from camera to Dropbox?

    Hello mikeoncamano,
The process for uploading the video to your computer is the extent of Canon technical support for the camcorder.  It may be as simple as copying and pasting the video clips over to Dropbox.  However, when it comes to uploading video to a web site, server or other third party method like this we cannot provide the proper steps.  We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause you.

  • Problems downloading video from Canon Vixa HV30

I have a Canon Vixa HV30. When I try to download video filmed on this camcorder in LP to Final Cut Express it will not allow me to capture it (I can play but cannot capture). Is it because the format is LP instead of SP? Any suggestions on what I need to do?

Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate you giving me more information than I got from the Final Cut Product Specialist on the Apple Care phone line. It's too bad that Apple in its promotion of the Canon HV30 (it's even shown in the tutorial on how to connect using a tape device), as well as MacWorld could not have provided the information you gave, and that neither site mentions a basic fact that you need to buy FW cable as well.
Regarding Final Cut Express 4. It seems to me that the information about connecting to an external drive and 32K preset should have been included in the Apple Certified Final Cut Express 4 book by Diana Weynand.
    Thanks again.

  • Problem with video from Canon 7D

I have the version 3.1.1 of Aperture. When I download from my Canon 7D (through a card reader), it sees the Canon RAW photos, but does not see the video at all, which is H.264.
Is there something I need to do differently?

For some reason, it's working again.

  • How do I capture video from canon d5 mark II to fcp using usb connection

I have always imported video to fcp via firewire using my tape cameras but soon I will have to make the jump to non linear cameras eventually as tape becomes obsolete. I haven't got a non linear camera but would like to know if there's a simple way to upload video footage with a camera like the 5d or similar non linear video cameras. Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to select the in and out points before importing like you do with tape devices so that you don't have to download all the footage shot. Thanks for any advice.

Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize videos on my Canon Vixia HG20

I have a Canon Vixia HG20 and had no trouble copying video to my Mac laptop in the past. Now I have a MacBook Pro and when I connect the camera with a USB cable, the videos are grayed out and the computer doesn't recognize them. The videos play fine on the camera itself. Also, the still photos show up on the computer and transfer easily. I've seen older posts & sites (2008, 2009) that are related to this issue, but I'm not sure they apply anymore. Any new help for 2012 out there? Please explain in layman's terms, as I am not very technically literate. Thanks!

Go to the Canon Drivers and Software page here and download the March and April software updates for OSX Lion. This should help in transferring video.
There is also a firmware update for the camera here.
