Problem clone-stamping a path

Hi,
I am trying to get rid of electric cables in front of buildings and somewhere I found the suggestion to create a path, then switch to clone stamp, sample the source and then go to the paths palette and shift-click it (to disable the drawing of the path) and then drag the path to the stroke button in the paths palette.
Well, in a way it works but not perfectly. By this I mean that it only removes the whole width of the cable in the central region of the path, and kind of feathers towards each end (or begin/end) - that is, it seems to apply the stamp in a progressive manner, starting with a very small stamp and then growing (as if the effect was desired to be slowly introduced and then slowly removed), reaching good behavior in the middle and then reducing its diameter of effect again as it moves to the other end of the path. This is annoying because it does not let me get rid of cable in one blow - which was the promise of the author who presented this technique.
I have a feeling that somewhere there is a switch that disables this progressive application of the stamp along the path.
Anybody knows?
Best regards,
Juan Dent

Check your stamp brush's shape dynamics settings. Also option-click on the Stroke Path button at the base of the Paths panel to see if you have Simulate Pressure checked.

  • Intermitent clone stamp problem

have been making extensive use of the clone stamp with some photo
repairs and occasionally I will get a line of pixels that will move
diagonally across the picture misplacing themselves. It is rather like
having a snag you don't know about that pulls itself while you are
plucking off a piece of lint elsewhere on the garment. I hope that makes
some sense. The line is quite wide. Of course I am working well zoomed in
but that should not cause any odd effect. It is as if it does it on its
own. Have dealt with it by making a new level or turning off the machine.
Not sure there is any relationship there. The whole thing is annoying, however
so if I am causing it, I'd love to stop it! Thanks for any help. Will search for
an example to attach later. First time here, didn't know I could.

  • How do you add the motion path of a tracking point to a separate clone stamp?

How do you add the motion path of a tracking point to a clone stamp without the clone stamp assuming the same initial/continuous positions of the tracking point?
Is there a way to keep the clone stamp's initial position and then add the path onto it?
I am using the clone stamp to remove unwanted duct tape that was used to keep lights on a wall.

I have spent two days trying to find a solution to this exact same problem. I have seen some overly complex solutions that probably work but trying to figure out the explanations is like trying to understand someone describe drag coefficients of rotary wing aircraft. While I am sure they work, they are way above my comprehension. I wanted an intuitive and straight forward solution for something that shouldn't require some arcane technique to fix.
    What I did:
    1) I used the Clone Stamp tool to paint over the spot on the wall I wanted to remove.
    2) picked a more easily discernible point of reference for Tracking. In my case, I used a poster on the wall.
    3) As per the instructions here, https://www.video2brain.com/en/lessons/removing-an-object-with-clone-stamp, I pasted the Attach Point data from the Tracker into Clone -> Transform - > Position
However, that didn't work for me as the object I was painting was not the object I was tracking. The solution from the video was simply moving my cloned spot to the tracked object instead of leaving it where I wanted it. So...
    4)  I then manually adjusted the Anchor Point of the Clone back to the original spot I wanted to cover.
I played footage and the cloned region successfully moved with the spot I was covering.
This is what I was able to figure out. I'm not an advanced user. I only use After Effects every couple of months when I need to fix minor things in footage, so I've only learned to use what techniques I need for the job at hand. No doubt, experienced users may shake their heads at my simplistic fix. I'm sure my technique would be wholly inadequate for situations far more complex than fixing spots on a gray wall, which is why my eyeballs cross when reading suggestions that seem way more involved than one would expect for something as seemingly minor as this. It's just a spot! It should be super easy to remove, right? Well, that's what I was looking for and that's what I came up with. I hope it helps.

  • Is there anyone having problem with Clone Stamp in CS4?

Good Morning, I am using Photoshop CS4 Extended with Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.  My computer is a Dell XPS 430, WITH 8GB of ram, 1.5TB of disk space,   ATI Radean HD 4800 Series adapter with 512MB memory.   When I bring up an image in Photoshop and click on Clone stamp I get the error message "could not use the clone stamp because of a program error."  I can still use Clone Stamp, but with some wied reults.  Sometime the middle of the brush turns bright white and do nothing.  Again it will clone the item clicked on, but would move the spot being cloned.  Other times when the brush is move from the spot being cloned it will clone other area without cliking on them.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop 4 times.  I have created a new account with administrative rights, which I unistalled and reinstalled Photoshop.  Two of the times that I uninstalled Photoshop I also used the Photoshop script to make sure all of Photoshop were uninstalled. I have also cleaned the register of Photoshop before reinstalling Photoshop.  Another item used to make sure there was no error with Vista was Windows cleanup installed tool.
Yesterday I checked my laptop and I am getting the same results as my PC.  The most recent thing that has been updated on both the PC and Laptop was Windows updates and Camera Ram 5.4.  Attached is a copy of a wierd result using clone tool.  I just clicked on the image and the orange spot appeared.  Is there anyone else who is having similar problems with Clone Stamp?

Have you applied the Photoshop 11.0.1 Patch?
Have you updated the video drivers?
If that doesn't help, try resetting your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/375776?tstart=0
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
(A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.)

  • Problem with clone stamp in Photoshop 8 and 9

Whenever I use the clone stamp it may work alright for a while, but then it starts doing odd things like shooting off lines or dots but not the spot I had cloned.  Then I have to undo the marks it has made and hope it will work right the next time.  It has done this on Photoshop 8 and 9.  Is this a known bug?  Can anyone shed light on this problem?

George I tried your suggestion and the same thing occured. Funny thing is my original script would work ok in 9 Pro but not 9 Reader. Through trial and error I found that if I commented out 'oDoc.closeDoc();' the script worked perfect in both 9 Pro and Reader- all attachements printed.
I have tested in 7, 8, and 9 Reader and only tested in 7 and 9 Pro. Eveything works fine.
    Very odd.
Does anyone know if I will run into issues not closing the documents , or are they closed automatically after printing? I don't want to run into memorty isssus down the road.
Thanks in advance for all the advice,
    -Bill

  • Problem using the clone stamp tool in cs6 64 bit

I am trying to use the clone stamp tool, however each time I alt click  on a PC runing system 7- 64 bit and try to clone an area, I get a window stating that I have not defined an area. Alt clicking again does not solve the problem. I work in a computer lab and this option works fine on our Macs using option click in PS CS6.

If »Show Overlay« is checked in the Clone Source Panel is the cursor showing the source imagery?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?

  • A problem using clone stamp tool

    Hi guys,
I use After Effects CC last version on a pc under windows 7 ultimate..
This problem must be simple to solve but I just don't see how.
I have an aerial view of the Vesuvio. The volcano makes a 10 to 15° circular motion due to the helicopter moving.
I need to eliminate the actual houses and other trails on the border of the crater to have my volcano as it was 2000 years ago when it erupted and destroyed Pompeii.
I succeeded to do that with the clone stamp tool without a problem and it takes of course into account all the different shades of earth on the cliffs of the volcano.
But when I preview the shot, while the volcano moves, I can see the stamped touches of paint moving as if floating above the volcano. The older surface is not visible as I wanted but the new one does't follow the movement. I'm sure I forgot to do something but what? Should I do the clone stamp in conjunction with motion tracker, if so how? I tried once but got the same problem.
    Thanks in advance
    Claude

OK, I see a bunch of painting on the nearest slope of the volcano that does not track with the shot. Your biggest problem is workflow using the clone stamp. You are just not using it properly. If it were me, the first think I would do is to use the After Effects tracker to stabilize this part of the volcano so that it didn't move in the frame.
Now you only have perspective issues to deal with.
Next I would duplicate the stabilized layer, pre-compose the duplicate moving all attributes to the new composition, name the preComp - clone or paint pre-comp, then open the pre-comp in the layer panel and use the clone stamp to repair the parts of the image you want to repair. You can then add other trackers for the parts of the image you want to clone or use a time offset to make your painted layer match the mountain.
I probably would do something completely different. I'd export the middle frame of this move as a Photoshop file, then go in and paint  the mountain the way I wanted it to look. I'd mask the background in photoshop so I only see the sides and face of the volcano. Then I'd bring my painted mountain back into AE and animate distortion, scale and rotation so the painted layer matches the original perspective on the shot as close as possible. When that is done I'd go back to my main comp, add a null, tie the null's position to the anchor point of the stabilized footage, then parent the original copy of the footage and the painted copy to the null to put the camera movement back in the scene.
Here's a tutorial on how to apply tracking data to a clone stamp in AE:
Removing an Object with Clone Stamp - After Effects Tutorial
I am pretty convinced that you added the smoke... Use the same procedure to get the smoke to look right. It's also floating in an unnatural manner. You could also replace the far background with a matte painting of the city using the same mask, duplicate, paint in Photoshop, then distort and remove the stabilization.

2nd problem, when i open a .jpg and position my mouse over an area i want to clone and click "ALT" and then move the mouse to the point i want to clone over, the "layer" moves with the mouse so i can never get to clone the area in question

  • After Effects problem with clone stamp tool

    Hi,
I've been using clone stamp tool in Photoshop for years and has no problem with it. But somehow I could never get it work on After Effects. After alt+click to select source I can then click (and hold left mouse button), rub and change the target area as expected but as soon as I let go the mouse button the target area reverts back to original.
    What did I do wrong?
    thanks.

First question that I have for you is did you look in the help files?. Simply type clone stamp in the search After Effects Help field at the top right corner of the application frame it you will find all kinds of information. There are a few good tutorials linked directly from the help file. After Effects Help | Paint tools: Brush, Clone Stamp, and Eraser
Because After Effects works with video you have to make sure you have the correct options for your clone stamp or your paint tool selected and you are working in the correct window. It is not so much that the clone stamp is not working, it is just that you probably do not have it set up correctly.

  • Problem with Clone Stamp & Healing Brush

Once set the sample point by option clicking with either the clone stamp tool or the healing brush, I suddenly see a duplicate layer that moves with the cursor as I try to position it oveer the spot I want to fix.
I have tried resetting both tools.  I am running CS6 and have experienced no other problems.
    Any ideas what's wrong?

    Hi RedMo53,
Your seeing the clone source overlay and you can adjust the preferences for the clone overlay by going to Window>Clone Source.
You might try clipped and see how that works.

  • Problem with Clone Stamp Tool Transparency

Hi there, I am working in CS5 and lately when I have been drawing with the Clone stamp tool, the cloned content seems to be transparent instead of being a 100% opaque clone of the source. The tool is in normal mode but the result looks almost identical multiply mode. I am coming from CS3 and I have not run into this problem in the past. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

…and the align sample to current layer is checked on.
This implies that you need to understand what the settings actually do. You have a choice "current layer", "current and below" or "all layers". These have nothing to with Align, they are all about which layers are sampled.
"Aligned" is about where multiple clicks of the Clone Stamp sample from. How they relate to the source area that you sampled.
Opportunity to air a major complaint of mine - "Aligned" automatically keeps checking itself. Because some Grandpa (photoshop 6 or 7 can't remember) decided that Option double click should be a 'shortcut' to keep Aligned checked all the time. Because they always work with Aligned on I guess, they think everyone should. Unfortunately it means that if you are a fast and experienced user, you have to waste a fair amount of time each day locating a tiny checkbox, to turn the damn thing off again. And again. And again.

  • CS6 Clone stamp problem

I'm trying to cover up some blown out flash reflections using the clone stamp (100% opacity) on a JPG image. However, I'm only getting an ugly brown spot where the reflection is, instead of covered up pixels. What am I doing wrong?

Hi!  Often when users have problems with the Clone Stamp tool, it has to do with layer arrangement and layer options.  Are you painting with the clone stamp on the same image layer, or on a transparent layer on top of the original image?  You might try checking the Clone Stamp sampling options (see screenshot) to make sure the selected sampling option matches your workflow.
    Hope this helps!

  • Clone stamp problems

For some reason I can no longer use the Clone stamp option correctly. The Mode option allows me to choose only from Dissolve or Behind, but I cannot set "Normal" mode, it does not even appear on the list. If I try to clone, the stamp pixelates and destroys the part of the image I am trying to clone. If I select the Pattern stamp, then "Normal" does appear.
    Elements 10, Windows XP
    I would appreciate your help.

Sounds like the scroll bar is missing.
Do you see the other blend modes below Behind such as Darken, Multiply etc?
Three ways you can get Normal mode:
    1. use the arrow keys on the numeric keypad to sroll thriough the blend modes
    2. press an hold were it says dissolve and move the mouse up. That should reveal the Normal mode.
    3. press Shift+Alt+N to get the normal mode.
I had that problem on xp with photoshop elements 7 and here's what fixed it, bringing back the scroll bar:
(it says for the type tool, but it should work for the brush mode list as well)
