Problem closing iTunes - iTunes.exe hanging.

I have been having a problem restarting iTunes EXCEPT on a reboot or by manually ending the iTunes.exe process. iTunes.exe is hanging.....it is not using any CPU, but memory usage reduces to about 95,000k, and, of course, I have to end the process before I can restart iTunes.
I finally figured out that this problem occurs only when I have been streaming music through Apple Express. In other words, Apple Express is preventing iTunes from closing.

I experimented around and reformated, and began reinstalling programs one by one as a test, starting first with iTunes. It worked just fine. Low and behold, the next program I installed was my antivirus/spyware program. It recreated the problem I had been having for the last year or so. I tried putting exceptions in the application configuration, but that didn't make any difference. Surprisingly, even stopping/disabling the program didn't work either. Completely uninstalling the program did - meaning there were conflicts between the installed components of the Antivirus/spyware program and the iTunes/Airport Express. Now I've got to go find another spyware/antivirus program. But, the question remains, why should a antivirus/spyware program, disabled at that, ie, stopped, cause iTunes to hang after streaming music through Airport Express??? Strange.

  • Win7 x64 itunes*32.exe process hanged up and window not open

    sry,my english not good.
    windows 7 x64 and itunes 10.5, after install, itunes*32.exe(Not AppleMobileDeviceService.exe) process hanged up , cpu(1/4 cores) up to 100% .

Sounds stupid, but this will actually work.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Start an elevated command prompt (Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Right Click "Command Prompt" -> "Run as Administrator")
    3. Once in the command prompt, type "netsh winsock reset" and hit ENTER.
    4. Restart iTunes.
    Problem solved.
At least this fixed it for me on my own Windows 7 x64 installation.  I had AppleMobileDevice.exe, APSDaemon.exe, and iTunes.exe all at 25% CPU simply from opening up iTunes.
25% CPU for me is 100% CPU per core since I have 4 cores.

  • Problem with installing iTunes

So these are my problems with installing iTunes.
    At first it was :
A required iTunes component is not installed. Please repair or reinstall iTunes (-45019)
Then it got worse as it would not even open and these would appear:
The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.
    and this would appear:
iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes.
    Error 7 (Windows error 126)
I reinstalled maybe about 5 times or more...
If I thought I solved the above problem, this would appear:
iTunesHelper.exe is not installed on my computer.
I seen other people comment that you should unistall and restart the computer and install the setup again, but it does not work..
And others would say to repair the AAS or iTunes etc..
And after trying all these it does not work???
    What else works?

I also tried repairing the Microsoft NET.

  • ITunes 10.6 hangs on Windows 7

iTunes 10.6 hangs on Windows 7  on iTunes startup.  My current page is the iTunes Store, and I see iTunes start up, and the progress bar on the top line shows "Accessing iTunes Store..." with the stripy progress bar moving for about 10 seconds.  Then it stops moving and the whole application hangs, with the Windows 7 spinner telling me to wait.  No Windows controls work (I can't close the window or stop the application).  At this point, I have to either reboot or use Task Manager to kill iTunes.  No amount of waiting works, and uninstall / reinstall iTunes does not resolve the issue.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Problems with Reinstalling Itunes 9

    Hi folks.
I cant find any help in the FAQs and support section of the sight so I thought I would have to post here for help.
I have Itunes on my computer, latest version (i think).
I recently had to "roll back" my Windows because of a problem it was having with Explorer. And after the roll back I noticed that my Itunes shortcuts appeared to be broken (I think perhaps because I rolled back to before I updated to the latest patch maybe?) and so I thought ill need to reinstall to sort that.
It seems to install okay but when it tries to "uninstall" the previous version it seems to think that the Itunes.msi file is "on an unavailable network resource" and thus wont uninstall.
I found Itunes.msi in my Documents and Settings folder on the C drive without too much trouble. So i dont understand what the problem is.
Itunes still seems to run if i go into its own folder and run the Itunes.exe from there so its not too bad but with this problem it means I wont be able to update in future. And I cant uninstall the beggering thing.
Anyone got any ideas on how to:
One restore the Desktop/Start Menu Shortcuts without a reinstall. And...
Two uninstall/reinstall/update itunes when getting this problem?
    Thanks folks.

Your problems with the shortcuts and the uninstalls actually have the same root cause. When the itunes.msi relevant to your existing itunes installation is damaged, the Windows Installer sometimes isn't able to "see" it properly, bollixing up the install and producing that message. In your case it's also plausible that the System Restore may have wiped out the relevant itunes.msi altogether.
When you click the iTunes desktop shortcut, your Windows Installer also runs. Roughly speaking, what's happening is that it is checking your existing itunes program files and registry entries against the information in the itunes.msi about what is supposed to be on your system. If it finds you've got some files or registry entries missing, it will do a repair install of iTunes. If everything checks out, it'll just go on to run itunes. But since the relevant itunes.msi is damaged or missing, you're getting an error message instead, rather than either a repair install or a normal itunes launch.
So, if we get your .msi situation sorted out, and remove your existing itunes, we should be able to reinstall and then get you functioning properly again.
Try using the procedure I give in the following post:

I am having problems updating my itunes to the latest version, on each stage I am getting a message 'The feature you are trying to use in on a network resource that is unavailable.'  I try to click OK it fails and I do not know an alternate path to select, please help?
    I get message like below on each stage of the update, Quicktime, Safari & iTunes;
It's so annoying as until I update my iTunes account my phone won't sync.

Many thanks for the screenshot. (The key to these is knowing which particular .msi file is being mentioned by the message.)
    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?
(Assuming that the QuickTime and Safari messages were also citing bonjour64.msi, you should also then be good to go with those installs too.)

  • I am having problems syncing my iTunes music to iTunes Match. ITunes shuts down after the 2nd step every time. Does anyone know how to fix?

Every time iTunes Match starts up, it gets to Step 2, almost makes it to Step 3, and then crashes and shuts down iTunes. I've restarted the computer, and reinstalled iTunes for Windows. Anyone have any idea what I should do next? There are songs that I can't sync to my iPhone 5S because of this.
    Thanks!

    Welcome to AD!
I have a regular post for the top 3 or 4 fixes for that 9808 error. Obviously you are going to skip #1, since you've already tried it. Let me know how you get on with the next 2.
The top 3 fixes to itunes error 9808 seem to be
    1) Go to Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced, make sure that SSL 3.0 is checked and TLS 1.0 is checked. Also under Security make sure that the “Check for server certificate revocation (requires restart)” is unchecked. Then click ok and fire up iTunes.
    2) The culprit was Norton. The users are set up as Admin and Standard. I have Parental Controls turned on in both Vista as well as Norton. Admin users had no problems connecting to iTunes. Standard users would get the error. I had to go to Norton’s Personal Firewall and add the program “iTunes Helper.exe” and set the option to “Allowed” (”iTunes.exe should already be in the Allowed category.) in order for the standard users to be able to connect.
    3) close iTunes if you have it open right now. Then go to C:/Documents and Settings/username/Local Settings/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes. Delete or cut the preferences.xml file which contains your iTunes preferences. Then go to C:/Documents and Settings/username/Application Data/Apple Computer/iTunes and delete or move the preferences.xml file. For Mac users, there is only one file you must delete or move a to a new location and is located at User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.itunes.plist. Restart iTunes and it will recreate those two (or one) files with the default settings. Feel free to set your preferences back to what they were and then connect to the iTunes store and enjoy!
And #4, see if you can get into the iTS from a different windows admin account on the same PC.

Anyone know how to fix this problem.  Cannot download lates version of Itunes.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with a Windows operating system file there.
Perhaps try an sfc /scannow. For instructions, see the following Microsoft document:

hey guys i got a problem connecting with itunes always giving me ox80090318 if u know the answer please let me know thx

    Hello Makiaveli,
It sounds like you are getting this error code when you are trying to access the iTunes Store.
I found this article with this error listed in the symptoms section, for you that should help troubleshoot the issue named:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4123
    Resolution
The cause for these issues is a program that monitors the Winsock protocol for Windows conflicting with Apple software. These programs usually use a Layered Service Provider (LSP) that can help identify the particular program installed. The programs that monitor this protocol have a variety of purposes, including security software, content filtering, and optimization of network traffic.
    To find the LSP:
Download Autoruns for Windows from Microsoft
Look for Autoruns.ZIP and open the compressed folder.
After reviewing the contents and the license, drag autoruns.exe to the desktop.
    Open Autoruns.
Click on the tab that says Winsock Providers.
A list of items should appear. A column showing the publisher should be available.
For items other than Bonjour, which is from Apple, check with the publisher for updates to resolve the conflict between their software and Apple software.
If the publisher is unfamiliar to you, you may be able to use the table below to find out more information about the origin of the modifications to Windows.
Some of the publishers and programs that are known to have versions with a conflict are listed below:

Once you've identified the third-party software that installed the LSP, you should check for updates. If the software is your security software, see iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues for additional information.
Bytemobile is usually associated with cellular data connection software. You may want to check if your provider has instructions to disable or uninstall that portion of the software, such as these instructions from AT&T.
Note:  If unsure on the origin of your LSP, you may try to locate vendor information to determine which software is responsible for the non-default value here.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How do I fix this problem with my iTunes?

I've been having problems with my iTunes for over a week now - since I tried to update to iOS 5 - and I've tried everything. I've had to uninstall iTunes multiple times and each time I have reinstalled it, there has been some form of error, the list seems endless. Today, I managed to get an older version to succeessfully install but when I tried to update to the newest version, this is what appeared on my screen after the 'install.'
"The procedure entry point AVCFAssetCreateWithByteSystemAndOptions could not be located in the dynamic link library AVFoundationCF.dll"
Any idea what this means, and/or how to resolve it?

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does your device connect without that message now?

  • Multiple problems ... iTunes, Can't eject, can't play purchased files

Thinking seriously about returning this Christmas gift. Gen 5 video iPod. Right out of the box something was weird: it was set up so that all the menus were in Russian. I had to reset the iPod just to be able to read the menus.
Installed iTunes on my HP Windows XP machine, and the first time I pluggd in the iPod, I could not eject it. Had to reset and quick pull the USB plug. However, I was able to purchse/download and play music, synch all my old music files, import pictures etc. Everything was fine.
Day Two is when things began to go wrong, right after I puchased my first videos. The two videos show up in iTunes and play in iTunes. They even show up in my iPod video playlists, but they do not play on my iPod. I just get a blank black screen. Right about that time, I began having problems with iTunes: "iTunes.exe Corrupt file. ipod_Control\iTunes\iEKInfo is corrupt". Then iTunes stopped running altogether ("iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to shut down is what it would say as soon as I opened the application.")
Several uninstalls, reinstalls, reboots and TWO system restores later, iTunes is runing again. However, now I get: "iTunes.exe Corrupt file. The file of directory \Photo\Photodatabase is corrupt and unreadable." But at least it runs. Kind of.
All my original music files play on the iPod, but the purchased files do not (both audio and viedo) even though all of them play in iTunes on the computer. And now, again, the iPod will not eject. iTunes tells me the iPod update is complete, but the red circle "Do Not Disconect" stays on the iPod screen. When I hit eject in iTunes, I get a message box that stays: [iPod] "could not be ejected becauase its files are in use." The only way to eject is to reboot the iPod, because it would sit there blinking "Do Not Disconnect" at me all day if I let it.
I've scoured these threads for help: ran the Windows Install Clean-up. Uninstalled QT and restalled stand alone version. Read all the tutorials about resetting, rebooting, problems with Windows, etc. Nothing is helping me. I am an iPod newbie and am not a computer expert, so monkeying around with Windows config is not somthing I want to do.
Can anybody assist? If not, this thing is going back. I lived without one for 35 years, I guess I can carry on with out a $399 toy that doesn't play nice with Windows.

Thanks Barbara. Yeah, it's set up to run as a hard drive, abd I've long ago read the link you suggested. Following those instructions, the iPod still won't eject. That's when I get the "could not be ejected becauase its files are in use."
Downloaded the iPod updater and when I reconnected the iPod for the first time, I got the following message: “some of the files including (a purchased video from iTunes) could not be copied to the iPod because they could not be found.” I also then got the old "iTunes.exe Corrupt file. ipod_Control\iTunes\iEKInfo is corrupt" message again.
I've not checked for viruses. Will do so now ...
