Problem connecting from Oracle to MS Excel - 64 bit
Hello,
I have problem connecting to excel from oracle 11.2 using DG4ODBC.

Connecting from oracle on windows 2008 64 bit to sql server.
Hi,
Oracle Server name: oraxyz
Database: 11.2.0.4 on windows 64 Bit.
Database home: d:\app\product\11.2.0\db_1
SQL server: sqlabc
I have a oracle database 11.2.0.4 on widows 2008 64 Bit on host oraxyz. I have to connect to SQL server sqlabc from this oracle database.
So I installed gateway for windows on oraxyz server in location d:\app\product\11.2.0\gateway.
My initdg4msql in Gaeway oracle home dg4msql\admin looks like this.
# This is a customized agent init file that contains the HS parameters
# that are needed for the Database Gateway for Microsoft SQL Server
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO=[sqlabc]:1433//prodsql
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL=OFF
HS_FDS_RECOVERY_ACCOUNT=RECOVER
HS_FDS_RECOVERY_PWD=RECOVER
Then I created a listener in gateway oracle home as follows.
DG4MSQL =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oraxyz)(PORT = 1524))
SID_LIST_DG4MSQL =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = dg4msql)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\app\product\11.2.0\Gateway)
(PROGRAM = dg4msql)
Then in Oracle db home I created a tns alias as follows.
dg4msql =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oraxyz)(PORT = 1524))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = dg4msql)
(HS = OK)
Then created a database link as follows
SQL>CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK tosql connect to abc identified by 123 using 'DG4MSQL';
SQL> DESC sqlservertable@tosql gives me error
ERROR:
ORA-28546: connection initialization failed, probable Net8 admin error
ORA-02063: preceding line from tosql
Could any one please help.
Do I have to create any ODBC connection for that?
BRNot part of your problem (yet) but I always get heartburn when I see someone naming their listener as if it has a relationship to something when it doesn't. There really is no point to naming a listener as anything but its default name of LISTENER.
So, in your listener.ora, instead of
DG4MSQL =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oraxyz)(PORT = 1524))
SID_LIST_DG4MSQL =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = dg4msql)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\app\product\11.2.0\Gateway)
(PROGRAM = dg4msql)
Just use
LISTENER=
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oraxyz)(PORT = 1524))
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(SID_NAME = dg4msql)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\app\product\11.2.0\Gateway)
(PROGRAM = dg4msql) -
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message: ORA-02063: preceding line from OWB_75
Scenario:
I am having difficulty getting ODBC connection between Oracle OWB app with an 11gR2 DB (running on a VirtualBox Linux) and SQL Server 2008 running directly on the host. (Windows 8)
I am trying to take a SQL Server 2008 feed into Oracle Ware house Builder, and think(!) I have read everything and configured it in accordance (but I presume not given 3 days of failed attempts to fix it). I have also read several blogs, hence there might be a few more settings in the configuration files than the formal documentation says, but these have come from blogs that have “Solved” problems for other similar situations.

Rafe.Let us rewrite your ODBC DSN a little bit... Your current odbc.ini looks like:
[ACME_POS]
Driver = FreeTDS
Description = ODBC Connection via FreeTDS
Trace = 1
Servername = 192.168.1.80
Database = dbo
Let us change it a little bit so that we only need one config file - no odbcinst.ini nor freetds.conf file anymore:
[ACME_POS]
Driver =/usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Server = 192.168.1.80
Database
= dbo #### I have some doubts that you have a SQL Server database called dbo - one database that always exists is master - so as a test use master here or get the real database name of the SQL Server database you want to connect
Port = 60801 ## make sure it really is the correct port - best would be to check on the SQL server and then try telnet <ip> <port> if you can connect to the SQL server
TDS_Version = 8.0
QuotedId=YES
Especially the last 2 parameters are mandatory. TDS_Version specifies the TDS Version you have to use to connect to the SQL Server and QuotedID is required for DG4ODBC as it surrounds objevt names by double quotes.
What happens now when you try to connect with for example isql - the ODBC test utility shipped with the ODBC Driver manager?
In addition, could you please do me another favour and check the word size of DG4ODBC and the ODBC Driver Manager as well as the ODBC Driver - just execute:
file /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1/bin/dg4odbc
file /usr/local/lib/libtdsodbc.so
file < the patch to your libodbc.so library>/libodbc.so
and post the output. -
How to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet
how to I convert data from oracle database into excel sheet.
I need to import columns and there datas from oracle database to microsoft excel sheet.
Please let me know the different ways for doing this.
Thanks.asktom.oracle.com has an excellent article on writing a PL/SQL procedure that dumps data to an Excel spreadsheet-- search for 'Excel' and it'll come up.
You can also use your favorite connection protocol (ODBC, OLE DB, etc) to connect from Excel to Oracle and pull the data out that way.

Copy and Paste from Oracle Forms to Excel
Hi to All,
I ran into this unusal problem with one user. She is trying to copy data in a cell from oracle form to excel. She does control+c and tries to control+v in excel. The data does not get pasted.
I tried logging into oracle on her pc and do the same method. I get the same results.
We tried copy from the menu bar in oracle and go into excel , menu and do paste. And it does not paste.
I did a test from copy from word document to excel...that worked.
We tried a different pc and everything worked.
Is there a setting in oracle when i do a copy that is not copyin the cell correctly. Any tips how to resolve this problem.
Thanks in advance for help in this matter.If it only happens on one PC, then usually there is a problem with the PC showing the "yellow bars" when logging into Oracle Forms. Otherwise, there is a more global problem with unsigned JAR files on the server.

ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned
Hi All,
My database is in 10.2.0.4 and has a dblink to sqlserver. The dblink works fine for normal queries.
However when executing the following query from my oracle database
SELECT ROWNUM, "ad2_id", my_name, "data"
FROM "abc"@xyz.com
WHERE "startDateTime" > (TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD') - 1)
AND "startDateTime" < TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD')
AND ROWNUM < 101
I am getting the following error
Note : Line 8 is "startDateTime" > (TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD') - 1)
ERROR at line 8:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
ORA-02063: preceding line from xyz
Note:
1.data is of datatype VARCHARN(1000) and if we ignore that field I am able to get the output
2. If I give the StartDateTime to a value without using to_date I am able to get the output.
Could you please tell me what could be the problem ?
Thanks in advance.user12061473 wrote:
If the edit masks doesn't match how come I am able to get output for the below query
SELECT ROWNUM, "ad2_id", my_name, "data"
FROM "abc"@xyz.com
WHERE "startDateTime" < TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD')
AND ROWNUM < 101
The problem as far as I am know is if I try to select data and use both the where clauses I am getting the error.
Which is
SELECT ROWNUM, "ad2_id", my_name, "data"
FROM "abc"@xyz.com
WHERE "startDateTime" > (TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD') - 1)
AND "startDateTime" < TO_DATE ('20100120', 'YYYYMMDD')
AND ROWNUM < 101

Is your database connect string correct? The ones I use don't have .com attached to them. -
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this mesg
Hi,
I am able to access ACCESS DB from local system having Oracle DB in the same machine using Oracle Heterogenious services.
Now when I try to access from remote system, I am getting error message as mentioned.
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:

correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.
(SQL State: 00000; SQL Code: -1023)That's a specific problem with mapped drives, on metalink:

Can Oracle 7i and 8i be connected from Oracle 9i database
I want to know if i can do the following. That means is it possible in production scenario. If yes then how and will it affect the performance to a great extend.
We are now upgrading the application server to weblogic 10.3 . But this server supports only Oracle 9i and above. But we have two more data server which are Oracle 8i and Oracle 7i. These databases will be upgraded later on but not now. So the problem is i can not connect to these Oracle database versions if i use Weblogic 10.3. So i wanted to know if there is any possibility of connecting the application server to a intermideate Oracle 9i database which will act as a bridge from Application server to Oracle 7i and 8i. Can Oracle 9i connect to Oracle 7i and 8i. If yes then how. You can provide me online references if any.
Thanks in advance. Waiting for your reply.manoj.tcs wrote:
The connection what you are refering is from a normal pc to Oracle 7i or 8i database. But i want to connect from Oracle 9i to Oracle 8iWhen connecting from one db to another (via a db_link) the 'calling' db is just another client to the 'called' db. if you can connect to 7.x (there was no 7i) with a 9.x sqlplus, then you should be able to connect with a 9.x database. At a previous job, we did something similar to get an app compiled against 8.1 to use a 10.2 database - set up a 9.2 intermediary that had nothing but db_links and synonyms pointing on to the 10g.
However, I wouldn't bet the company on making your scenario work. You really should upgrade your databases first. -
Trying to Connect from Oracle to Sybase
Hi
Iam trying to connect from Oracle to Sybase only to retrieve data which is why--Generic COnnectivity. Everything was fine like creating default entries with hsodbc(instead of default tg4sybs) in listner.ora, tnsnames.ora like discussed in this forum. But, the final problem which Iam encountering is:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-02085: database link HSODBC.US.ORACLE.COM connects to HO.WORLD
Can anyone explain about this problem and solution?? Please help....It is URGENT!
Thanks
Gopikrishna.This happens with global naming set to true for the database.
How to check if global_names is true or false:
openSQL*plus connection to the database and type
SHOW PARAMETER GLOBAL_NAMES
What to do:
1. you can alter your SQL*Plus session each time you
connect:
ALTER SESSION SET GLOBAL_NAMES=FALSE;
2. you can set global_names to false within the init.ora
of the database
3. you can change the default GLOBAL_NAME HO.WORLD of the
HSODBC system while changing the values in the init.ora
of the hsodbc:
HS_DB_NAME=HSODBC
HS_DB_DOMAIN=us.oracle.com -

I have looked up the errors on Oracle forums and could not get any valuable help anywhere.
Can someone kindly help out where I am going wrong?
Thanks,
Ram.Hello kgronau,
Thank You very much for your recommendations. I removed the parameter HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = 255.
I added HS_FDS_FETCH_ROWS=1 and also HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
Tested my sql statement, which yielded the result as follows:
SQL> select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
select * from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:
㈵″㠵6
SO I thought I would give a try of removing the line HS_NLS_NCHAR = UCS2
and again tested my sql statement and it worked like a charm!!!!
I tested a count(*) and got the results back.
SQL> select count(*) from mdiaz.AREMAIL@samplink;
COUNT(*)
600
I really appreciate your valuable pointers and help.
Thanks once again!!!

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.
Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
Step 4
Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
Potential sources of interference
Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC). -

There is a typo in the name of you gateway init file. You posted the content of inithMYSQL.ora but the naming is init<SID>.ora which is in your case initMYSQL.ora.
In addition please keep in mind HSODBC has been desupported since 2008 and when starting a new configuration you should use the follow up product dg4odbc (Database Gateway for ODBC) V11. -

Salih KmHi ,
Thanks for your reply.
Contents of my initMYSQLSERVERDSN.ora file is
# This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
# needed for an ODBC Agent.
# HS init parameters
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = MYSQLSERVERDSN

set ODBCINI=c:\WINDOWS\ODBC.INI
SALIHKM.DOMAIN.COM is my system in which Oracle Test DB is Installed.
SQL Server is in another location.
In Tnsnames i specified ip address.
One more doubt.
I am using 10g Release 2 demo version.
whether it will support Hetrogeneous Services?
How to know whether a database supports HS or not?
Thanks & Regards
