Problem connecting new hd box

Hello I have just been given a new hd box by sky to replace the old sky+ box. In the instructions is says i can connect via hdmi cable if i have an hd ready tv, or skart lead if not. (It is not hd ready) However my old sky box connected with an aerial as the skart lead from the tv goes to the dvd player. How do i connect to the new hd box, i can't find anywhere to plug in the aerial? thanks ....

Just a scart socket i think. Bit disappointed that i was told this was a free upgrade but i've now got to buy some more equipment! I guess a 3-way scart socket extension is relatively inexpensive though.

  • Problems connected new internal hard drive to iMacG5

My original internal driver needs replacement. I bought a 160GB Mastor/Seagate ATA/100 driver per the instructions of the mac genius. Everything is identical but the connector (male part) is different from the old one. What do I need to do? Where can I find instructions for dealing with this issue? Is there a more precise hard drive that I should have purchased?

Friends, I think I have the same problem. My internal drive died and - encouraged by the "user-replaceable" info from Apple, purchased a Western Digital 500GB "Caviar GP" SATA drive. My problem is, while installing the new drive, I discovered that the new drive lacks the small 4-pin connector at the back of the drive (and, instead, has a larger four pin male connection on the same side as the other two cable connectors. So I assume I have the wrong model drive.
Am I stuck with the wrong drive or is there some kind of connecting cable I could get? I appreciate any suggestions you might offer.

  • Two problems - connecting dvd to box, plus remote ...

    Hello
Im not very good with technology at all, so i apologise for my "dumbness"!!
I received my BT Vision box today, found it pretty good so far and setup was fine and simple.
Later on i decided i wanted to try and connect my DVD player to the box. But im unsure how? My television is a bit ancient to be honest. Its a Sharp LC-M3700. I acquired it free from my work. Basically it appears to have no aerial socket, RF sockets or scart which caused a few problems when I first got it. So i got a scart lead which has the 3 coloured sockets coming off one end, and the other end has a scart socket. So this is naturally used to plug in from my tv to the BT box.
I thought connecting the DVD player would be simple. Just plug in a normal scart lead from the box, to my DVD player. But this doesn't do anything. I noticed in the manual it has a diagram and uses RF in/out sockets which i dont have on my tv or dvd player. Am i doing something wrong, or is there a way of connecting my dvd player up aswell? Otherwise I guess ill have to keep unplugging the leads.
Also i cant get any remote codes working for the television. I have the black remote/box. Ive tried all the codes for Sharp televisions (in the manual and off the BT website), plus all the other codes in the manual. Is there anything else I can do?
Many thanks and sorry for waffling

    Hi AdamUK,
    Don't worry, I waffle too!
Regarding the DVD player, are you trying to route the signal from the DVD to the TV via the BT box? The BT box doesn't have a scart IN socket (TV and AUX on my silver model, both output I'm sure) so this won't work. You could use a scart switch box - you'd connect scart leads from the BT box and the DVD to the switch, then connect the output from the switch to the TV using your existing converter cable. You'd then use the switch to select either the BT box output or the DVD output as required.
Alternatively if your DVD player is a recorder then it may have an scart IN socket so may be able to pass a signal through to the TV from the BT box if you select the appropriate input. In this setup one lead would go from the BT box to the DVD IN and then one would go from the DVD OUT to the TV.
    Hope this is of use.

  • "There was a problem connecting to the server" in iTunes after migrating to new mac

I have a problem that is driving me crazy with my brand new iMac. I see many other people posting similar issues, but none of the other solutions seem to work for me.
I had a MacPro and bought a new iMac, on which I used Migration Assistant to set up. So the new iMac is virtually the same as my old machine in terms of appearance and installed applications. Both machines have Mountain Lion 10.8.2. All software on both machines has been through Software Update and is fully up to date, as are the connected devices (iPhone and iPad).
The problem is with iTunes. Every time I start iTunes (I think at the moment it checks my two connected devices) I get a pop up dialogue saying:
There was a problem connecting to the server "MacPro".
The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
This dialogue continues to pop up constantly as long as iTunes is open, interrupting my work and frustrating me no end. The old machine is of course turned off and indeed is not available -- but I can't find what on the new iMac is so desperate to connect to it.
So far I have tried completing erasing my iTunes library, deleting all the preferences, reinstalling iTunes from a fresh download of the dmg, safe rebooting several times with no peripherals connected at all, and deleteing other preferences like the Login Items, iPhone config and iPhoto. I have also cleared Recent Items from the apple menu and opened "Connect to Server" in the finder and cleared all servers from the dropdown menu.
Last night I also completely restored my iPhone from scratch to see if that would clear away the issue and I have connected both iPhone and iPad to go through any apps that have permission to write content to my computer and deleted all of them completely from the devices.
Nothing has changed at all after all that, and I have run out of ideas. Clearly there is something somewhere that has my old machine's name hard coded in it but I can't see any way to search for it. I would grep my Library folder but I think a lot of the files are binary so I'm not sure that would unearth anything. I've seen many posts saying that Apple phone support (which I would qualify for) can't help with this issue and so I have put off phoning them to simply run through all the things I've already tried.
Any advice that anyone could offer would be extremely helpful. I can't use iTunes at all like this as it disrupts everything I try to do on the new machine.
    many thanks!!

Nothing at all? Can't anyone help with this issue at all? I would be grateful for any suggstions as it is driving me crazy. It happens every time I open iTunes and also every time I open Mail.

I'm being shown an error pop-up message periodically saying "There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the type 'file:' are not supported." I have a brand new MacBook Pro, and at no time am I actually having trouble connecting to the server, but this message continues to pop-up several times a day at random intervals. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Or is my computer just having a glitch? Other than that, and a mildly sticking caps lock button, it's working perfectly.
    Thank you!

Alright it didn't solve it. Any other suggestions?
I haven't suggested a solution yet. I want to know whether you still get the messages while Time Machine is disabled. Do you? If so, try any or all of the solutions proposed in this thread:

  • HT201412 I have a problem connecting to the server (SSL problem) on my new Apple ipad.  I was supplied with a new ID password, but I am unable to get into my settings and email. Could someone please offer a suggestion?  Thanks!  A.A.

I have a problem connecting to the server (SSL problem) on my new Apple Ipad (iOS6).  When submitting my Apple ID password, I am prevented from signing in to a secure connection due to an SSL problem.  Any suggestions ??  Thank you!

Sounds more like you have a problem with your apple id. For starters go to that page click manage my apple id and singn in. If you can't sign in reset password.
    https://appleid.apple.com
if you can sign in there, try to sign in to itunes on your computer.

  • I receive error message "Unable to connect to iTunes store" when trying to download updates to my iPhone4. No problems buying new apps.

I have just started receiving the message "Cannot connect to iTunes store" when I attempt to download upgrades to previously purchased apps. However, I have no problem buying new apps from the iTunes store. No issues with wifi or connectivity.  Does anyone have any ideas or fixes? Thanks.

1st. Turn off your phone and back on.
if that does not work, do a reset by holding the on/off button and the home button until the Apple logo comes on.

  • New problem connecting Canon 20D camera to OS 10.4.7

Hi, I'm new to the forum but have foud you having looking for an answer to a problem i have had. re: New problem connecting Canon 20D camera to OS 10.4.3 and the answers listed for it the problem has been occuring on my 3 Macs, all running OS 10.4.7 and firmware on the new 20D at 2.0.3. The camera would not connect to the Mac with any software.
Canon told me to make sure that the connection mode is set to normal (which didn't work) but today they tell me to change it to P2P and iPhoto recognised the camera and downloaded. Still can't use the canon software (camera not connected / recognised) but they have said that a senior technition will be contacting me so i will keep you up to date.
    All the best.

I have an update from my telephone conversation earlier today:
    Dear Customer,
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding your Canon product.

  • Problems connecting IOS devices with new Comcast wireless cable modem?

Just installed a new cable modem from Comcast, it is their new high speed unit manufactured by Cisco. of the three IOS devices I've tried, all running currently the OS , are having problems connecting with  the error "Unable to join the network " Home-XXXX" if you keep asking it may connect but I have to be persistant.  My Devices are iPad 4 g Retna with 30pin connection, an iTouch ,latest model with camers, and current iPad mini. is it me or the modem?

You have probably already solved this issue, but I would hide the comcast wifi network (dont broadcast ssid) and make the password very hard. Make sure that put it on channel that does not conflict with your Airport Extream.
Connect the Comcast modem/router to the airport extream's wan port with an ethernet cable.
Comcast usually ships the DHCP enabled. Use the comcast DHCP server for your airport.
Configure the airport extream to "create a network" set the network to "bridge mode".
Name your network, broadcast the ssid all on the airport. Now all your devices will connect everytime. Use can use the Comcast "private" wireless network for maintenance, etc.
    Just some thoughts... good luck

  • Had problem w/ new iPad mini w/retina display.  Could never get it to stay connected on a consistent basis to my ATT Netgear wireless.  Does anyone have a solution?

Had problem with new iPad mini with retina connecting to my ATT net gear modem.  Finally gave up and exchanged it for new air.  Have had no problems with air connection.  Has anyone had mini issues with ATT?

I too have experienced this issue over the past two days... I have a 16gb ipad mini retina, for reference. I bought the device one week ago, and had not experience any issues at all until bringing my device to work. I logged into my work's enterprise level wireless network both yesterday and today, maintained normal wifi capabilities for 2-4 hours each day, and was then randomly dropped, both days. I tried hard resets, resetting my network settings, airplane mode, etc. Nothing has worked. I am still offline on my ipad mini retina.
My iPhone 5 is sitting right next to my iPad mini retina. The iPhone is currently connected to the same very network, and has been for the past two years. I have never lost connection on my iPhone's wifi, just my iPad mini retina.
This must be some kind of bug, as it does not sound like a hardware nor network issue.
Hopefully they fix this in 7.1.

  • Got a new MacBook pro but for some reason I can't connect to my schools wireless. It doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi. My schools network is unsecured all you do is login with your username and password but the window never loads

I jus got a MacBook pro and Im having trouble connecting to my schools network. It is not secured and only requires to login with school id. A Window pops up to sign in but it never loads anyone know why I'm having this problem? Doesn't have a problem connecting to any other wifi

"This is a flaw in OS X Lion. It does not want to connect to open WiFi that has a login page that open in a browser."
Nonsense, no problems logging in at sites that you mention. I use OpenDNS servers. For the OP try:
System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS. In the left side column click on the + sign and insert the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK, then click Apply.
