Problem connecting to Canon i960 through Dlink DPR1260 print server

With the help from another thread, I was able to install the driver for my Canon i960 for iMac OS X 10.7, and the printer works perfect with USB connection. However, when trying to setup the wireless connection via Dlink DPR1260 print server, I keep getting error:" An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.". I believe I followed all setup steps correct for adding printer with IP (LPD, IP address, Queue name, and selected Canon i960), as I was able to get the wireless setup for MacAir without problem. Wondering whether anyone had any tips getting iMac to work with the print server. Below are the screen shot of the setup and error.

Thank you, PAHU, this solved a problem I've been having for quite a while.
I have a Canon Pixma iP4200 connected to a DSL router (an SFR Neufbox 4, issued here in France by the operator SFR). With OS 10.6 on my daughter's MacBook Pro, connecting to the printer through the print share function on this DSL router worked fine using the printer drivers supplied through Canon and Apple. Then when we got an iMac with 10.7, impossible to get it to work. I had exactly the error shown by louiema above.
But now that I installed Gutenprint 5.2.9, I was able to configure the connection instantly, and now I can move my printer back where it belongs, and not have it sitting on the floor beside my desk.
Brilliant ! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I will now share this solution with my francophone community.

We are on holiday in Mexico. Our iPad2 has no problem connecting to the Internet through our hotel's subscription WiFi network. But, both of our macbookpros can not with the same password. What can we try?
We can join the network, but can not access the Internet. The password is correct. We have tried network assistant and diagnostics, restarting the laptops, re-joining the network. Our iPhone 4s also works all the time.
Same location. Signal strength is good.

Since I couldn't figure out a way to edit our original post, here's another potential clue.
Our laptops, when in System Preferences>Network, say "WiFi has the self-assigned IP address of XXXXXXXXX and will not be able to connect to the Internet".
Strangely, my six year old MBP running OS 10.6.8 accessed the Internet straight away, just by opening Safari to my home page. My wife's six month old MBP running OS 10.7.2 could not.

  • DLINK DP101P+ Print Server - can I make this work w my Macbook?

    Hi all:
Okay well I have a 1993 HP LaserJet 4L (best $900 I ever spent, still looks new and prints text amazingly well given it's age.) Anyway I have it hooked up to my wireless router via a Dlink DP101P+ print server... Anyway to get this to run with my Mac? I played around with the settings and was able to get something to come across but it printed just jumbled characters.
Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

PS Of course this kind of thing also depends on the app you are using to write with.  Pages 4 can do it, and probably some other apps as well.

  • Printing through a wireless print server

I've got a Macbook running 10.4.11 that connects wirelessly to my home network. I recently purchased a Buffalo LinkStation Pro Duo NAS that has a built-in print server. I connected my printer to the NAS and can print wirelessly from all my PCs, but not my Mac. The Mac sees the printer as a "generic postscript printer", however, when I try and print, it goes "ding" and doesn't do anything. I've tried changing from "generic" to my printer model, but my model (Canon MP160) doesn't show up on the list. I've gone and installed the drivers from Canon, but it still doesn't show up in the list of available Canon models.
Otherwise, the NAS works fine from all computers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whew! After researching and researching, I tried downloading and installing the latest Gutenprint package. It included CUPS drivers for a Canon printer very close to mine and when selecting this printer in the setup, it seems to work OK. Not perfect, but it does work.

  • Printing on a Wireless Network through a Wireless Print Server Resolved

    Ok,
I have been working on this all day and no one at apple could help me.
I have a linksys router with a dlink print server hooked up to it.
my macbook would not recognize the printer. if I added it manually it wouldnt print. so I was trying to find a solution myself. I was thinking if the Printer Queue Name was the issue. It was, that must be correctly entered for the printer to work. Now my Leopard will print.
    Hope this helps someone.
    Nick

This will not be specifically helpful, but it MAY help you get started.
I had the same problem too, when initially setting up wireless printing for my Mac Pro.
I ended up specifying the IP address of the wireless printer server and to identify the print q name, I printed out a status sheet from the printer.
    Hope that helps.

  • Printing through Linksys Wireless Print Server

    Ok.. Here is the question.
I have a Linksys Wireless Print Server (WPSM54G) which is connected to a Canon MX700. In windows this works great. However I cannot get OS X (10.5.2) to print to the printer.
The print server (with firmware update 1017) supports IPP, LPR, and some other printing protocols.
I have also pulled down the CUPS driver from Canon's site for the printer.
At this point I am stuck in getting this working.
Has anyone out there successfully gotten this wireless print server to work with OS X?
If so, what is the trick?
    Thanks.

I hope you're right about supporting the industry-standard protocols after a firmware update - because this print server didn't support those before...
With the industry-standard protocols IPP and LPD, a queue name is a part of the address to direct data to the port on the print server. Do you know the queue name (also called port name in some documents) for this print server, so you can enter it in print & fax prefs?

  • Connecting HP J4580 usb thro wired USB printer server

    Hi All,
I am have printing using the Airlink  APSUSB1 usb1.1 printer server with PSC950 & HP 1400 series printer in the home network.
Recently I replaced the usb printer with new HP J4500 and I am unable to print thro' the network connectivity. I am able to print using the USB port.
I was told if the native Dos printing support is required for this work.
Has anyone successfuly connected a AIO J4500 USB to Printer server ?
    thanks
    Udaya

+would it be possible to split the USB cord coming from the Printer+
I'm afraid not. The connection must be direct to either the TC or your computer, but not both at the same time.
Apple's Printer Troubleshooting Guide will guide you through the process of setting up the printer. Unfortunately, Apple does not offer a printer compatibility list, so the only way to really know if your device is compatible is to try to see if it can be configured.
Perhaps HP would could help in this regard.

  • Configuring a printer through a wired printer server over a wireless network.

Hi,  I have a home wireless networks setup via a netgear wireless router. I have an old HP Laserjet 4 that is connected via a parallel printer port to a Netgear PS110 printer server. The printer server is connected via Ethernet to the wireless router. How do I configure my Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.5) to talk via the wireless router to the printer server, and to configure a driver that will work with the old HP. On all of my PCs (Windows 7/XP/Vista) I can see the device on the network and assign a printer driver to it. I am new to the Macbook world and would appreciate some guidance. How do I get the Mac to recognize the server on the network? How do I specify an HP specific driver for the printer. If I need to install some third party driver for this older printer, how do I do that?

    Which os do you have?
Check Apple's Knowledge Base for Printer Troubleshooting solutions and suggestions for your particular os.

  • I have a problem connecting  a canon Pro-100 injet printer to my iMac oS Mavericks.

I have purchased a Canon Pro-100 inkjet printer which I am trying to connect to my printer. The software on the disc was not compatible with OS Mavericks so Canon sent me the updated software. Still won't work. I get an air message which I have sent to Canon. They say it is an Apple problem which has occurred a lot recently. Aplle online chat support could not help. Has anyone else had this problem. I've got an expensive printer I can't use.

I know I have to give up on the printer and scanner- but I am going to try to find something to keep my tablet going for awhile.
Are you actually reading the responses that people are giving you?
    1. Your printer will work with Gutenprint support, possibly will work with 10.9 drivers.
    2. Epson has a scanner Yosemite driver for your scanner.
    3. And Wacom has a driver for your tablet.
You have no reason to be that miserable, all things considered.

  • Problem connecting from Windows XP to 10.4.7 server.

I have an old G4 tower running as a server. I had OS Xserver 10.3.x running on a single disk in this machine. Everything worked fine.
I then inserted a mirrored disk pair in the machine and installed OS X server 10.4.7. The machine is set up as a standalone server.
When connecting from a Mac I can use both AFP and SMB to connect to the fileservices.
But when trying to connect to the fileservices using smb from Windows XP machines only a few of them can actually see the server in Network Neighbourhood. And none of them seems to be able to connect.
I can though ping the servers IP from the Window machines.
Do you have any Ideas that could help me solve this problem?
    TIA
    Hans

I also have a problem with people unable to connect via FTP from Windows.
My computer is set up as a Standalone Server. When I click the Windows button in Workgroup Manager for a user, the dialog says:
"Only a user with a password type 'Open Directory' may have a WIndows profile or home directory. You can change the user's password type on the Advanced tab."
But the Advanced tab only offers one password type: Shadow Password.
Note that this WAS working correctly for some time. I updated to Server 10.4.4 a while back. I don't think my single Windows user has accessed since the update. I'm trying add a new Windows user now and he can't connect because of this problem.
Please point me to a document to help me correctly configure this.

Did you turn on the Printer Sharing in the "Share" preferences panel?
And, for Windows computers to access your printer, they need to install "Bonjour for Windows", which is a part of the iTunes+Quicktime install package, I believe.
Alternatively, you can turn on SMB sharing on your Mac, which is also in the "Share" preferences panel. You first highlight and turn on "File Sharing", then there is an "Options..." button to the right, clicke it and check the checkbox of "Share files and folder via SMB (Windows)".

  • New Mac User - Problem connecting to Internet via work Ethernet cable.

    Hi all.
I am having problems connecting to the Internet through my work ethernet cable.
When I plug the cable in, Network settings tells me it's there and working, all of the ip numbers conform to what the IT dep say they should be, but safari won't connect to any site.
I can see the shared folders on the Exchange Server, and access the files no problem, but cannot get any connection to the internet.
Have called Apple Support and they seem to think the issue is with my work's Network which I am starting to agree with. We went through all of the settings together and they said it all looked ok. Then we tried deleting and re-installing the system configuration folder. Still no joy.
Airport works fine, (have tried it on three different routers), as long as the Ethernet cable is unplugged.
If I plug the Ethernet cable directly into a router, it works fine also.
I connect to my work network by running an ethernet cable from the wall socket to my Macbook. It's the same cable that I connect my PC with, and works fine on my PC.
    Anyone come across anything similar?
My Macbook is just over a day old and running OS X 10.5.5.
    Thanks

For some reason (and it's nothing to do with me) it's all working fine now.
    Thanks for your help nonetheless.
