Problem connecting to internet

Hi,
Just bought a macbook air and am having trouble connecting to wireless internet. It can detect and connect to the network, but when i try and use safari, it says "you are not connected to the internet". Have tried network diagnostics to no avail (it can't get past network settings), and now have an exclamation mark in front of the reception bars.
We also have a MacBook and a MacBook Pro, which have had no issues connecting to and using the internet.
Am not very mac-savvy, so have run out of ideas...
help!
Hannah

This seems to be a universal problem for the Macbook Air, that I have experienced myself. The Air will randomly be unable to connect to the internet, even on familiar AirPort networks, and will decide to drop internet connectivity for no apparent reason. This happens to me regularly still, even when my PS3 and other devices on the same network connect to the Internet just fine.
After much frustration and troubleshooting, here is the solution to this problem:
1. Turn off your AirPort. Go to the Status Bar or System Preferences>Network and turn off the computer's AirPort.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Turn the AirPort back on. Immediately you will be prompted with two "Allow" or "Cancel" operations. The computer is asking you if you will allow two applications to perform network related tasks. Obviously, "Allow" both of them. Connect to your regular AirPort if your Air does not do it automatically.
4. Launch your Internet browser and you should be good to go.
I love Apple products and have rarely encountered asinine problems like this, but the Macbook Air seems to be a truly finicky and unreliable product. Shame on you, Apple.

  • Issue setting up eFax on HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One "Problem connecting to internet"

I'm having an issue setting up eFax on my new HP Photosmart 7510 e-All-in-One. I am following the on-screen instructions and receive an error "Problem connecting to internet" when trying to register the account. The ePrint service is working, and I can use the facebook app on the printer so it seems to be connecting to the internet. I am uncertain how to resolve the issue.

Let's set a static IP address and external DNS for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Problems connecting to Internet using Airport - can anyone help ?

I'm using a MacBook running OSX 10.4.11, trying to connect to internet using Airport. I connected OK first time, but after powering off the Mac, each time I now try to connect again, the Mac can't find the network. Network Diagnostics can't fix it either. I use a Linksys wireless router, connected to an ADSL modem. I use PPPoE. I live in Borneo, and the line connection is not great, occasionally the phone line drops out and then modem reconnects itself, I wonder whether this is causing some sort of problem with IP settings. The only way I can connect wirelessly is to start the Mac, reboot the modem, then the router, and plough through Network Diagnostics. A real pain. Help much appreciated.

I have a Linksys Wireless-G (model WRT54GS). This is working ok because I have two other wireless devices (internet radio and iPod touch) which connect fine. Firmware is up to date. I've done a bit more troubleshooting, and the the problem is connected with the phone line, which drops out all too regularly. Each time the phone line drops out, the Mac is unable to connect to the network wirelessly. After going through Network diagnostics, and rebooting the modem+router, it comes with a message saying "Network changes detected", and then I can reconnect OK. The funny thing is, the IPod touch can always reconnect no problem, even if the line has dropped out since the last login. Given that I've got a crappy phone line conection, is this normal or is there something wrong with my Mac settings ?

  • Problems connecting to internet after installing Leopard

I have been having problems connecting to the internet after installing Leopard. I have a G5 at my office and use safari and AOL, using a cable modem and router. Everything worked perfect until I installed Leopard. About 3 days after installing Leopard on my G5 I started having problems connecting to the internet. When opening "network" in preferences it tells me I am connected, but I cannot connect. So I have to restart my computer every time in order to connect. Then to top it off, often in the middle of the day I am able to get and send e-mail with AOL, but my Safari does not connect. And even more bizare, if I am connected and sign off my AOL, I lose Safari as well. Brought the G5 into the Mac store and after trying some stuff they told me "it should work now" but ....same problems. So last Monday, I installed Leopard on my Macbookpro which I use at home wirelessly, everything worked well until yesterday when the same issue with my G5 is happening with the macbookpro. No connection, it tells me I am connected, signal is strong, but nothing.....so restart and keep going. What is going on? Anyone else having same problem? Any solutions
    Roberto

    Roberto,
Is the install of Leopard on the G5 and MacBook Pro an upgrade install or a clean install?
Try some simple maintenance to see if this resolves it:
    1. Run Repair Disk Permissions (Disk Utility)
    2. Go to Network Utility and go to Ping enter in www.cnn.com and see if the packets are received/sent. This is just to see if you can get to the outside so to speak
    3. See if your cable modem manfacturer has a leopard upgrade. Sometimes hardware companies need to upgrade their firmware when new Operating systems come out

  • IMac shutting down, problems connecting to internet

I have a 3-year old IMac that I am having problems with. The problems started gradually with trouble putting the computer to sleep, getting the grey film over the computer screen, telling me I need to shut down, and now when it's asleep, it will automatically shut down. When it is asleep, I have trouble waking it back up. I have to press the power button and re-start. Also, I have trouble connecting to the internet. It says "problems connecting to the internet". I have unplugged all cables, power cords, etc. and re-plugged everthing, and I still cannot connect. Any ideas?

  • New Mac User - Problem connecting to Internet via work Ethernet cable.

    Hi all.
I am having problems connecting to the Internet through my work ethernet cable.
When I plug the cable in, Network settings tells me it's there and working, all of the ip numbers conform to what the IT dep say they should be, but safari won't connect to any site.
I can see the shared folders on the Exchange Server, and access the files no problem, but cannot get any connection to the internet.
Have called Apple Support and they seem to think the issue is with my work's Network which I am starting to agree with. We went through all of the settings together and they said it all looked ok. Then we tried deleting and re-installing the system configuration folder. Still no joy.
Airport works fine, (have tried it on three different routers), as long as the Ethernet cable is unplugged.
If I plug the Ethernet cable directly into a router, it works fine also.
I connect to my work network by running an ethernet cable from the wall socket to my Macbook. It's the same cable that I connect my PC with, and works fine on my PC.
    Anyone come across anything similar?
My Macbook is just over a day old and running OS X 10.5.5.
    Thanks

For some reason (and it's nothing to do with me) it's all working fine now.
    Thanks for your help nonetheless.

  • Problem connecting to internet w/ Airport Express

I have been attempting to make a wireless network for a friend of mine. He's running a 4 yr old Dell desktop with XP w/ sp3. I installed a wireless network adapter on the Dell which appears to working perfectly.
He has a cable modem and I attached the ethernet from the AE to the modem. I ran the Airport Utility, had problems connecting to the internet with the amber blinking light and so I ran ipconfig/renew and release and manually entered the info. Had a green light and Airport was running without any reported problems, but no internet access. I then powered down everything and still no internet access. I switched the setting from 'manual' to 'using DHCP' and the AE is now blinking amber and reporting problems of no DNS Servers and Double NAT. I have hit a wall? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Andrea

turned out it was a problem with my router but its all working fine now.

  • I had a problem connecting the Internet to my mini Ipad-mini.  So I reset it back to the beginning but it kept some apps and I lost a lot of them. Can I reset the rest of apps that are missing? Thanks!

I had a problem with my Internet connect and I reset the device. I found later it was because my modem lost code and I had to renter it. The problem is when I reset it back to the beginning, I lost a lot of my apps, is there anyway I can get them back? And is there a way to back things up before I go searching for an answers? Despite what you have written my real email is [email protected] Thanks. Please remember my email address. Thanks

This is an iPad user to user forum, so you are not addressing Apple. Don't post your email address. Apple will remove.
You can redownload any missing apps -free or paid - without charge.
A Reset does not cause app deletion. I suspect you did a Restore.

  • Problem connecting to internet with linksys router after internet network password reset

I do not know the model number of the wireless linksys router offhand, but it is one known to have a bug regarding connecting the internet. Others have solved the problem by buying another model number, but the person who owns it does not want to buy a new one since he does not know how to use any other one.
What happened is our phone company (also the internet provider) was having technical problems so there no internet connection. Then, my computer opened with internet page to reset password to connect.
Although I am able to get a connection on my wireless laptop, this other person in house is unable to connect to wired computer through linksys.

Hi. WUSB300N is actually a wireless usb n adapter. A wireless receiver not a wireless access point or a router. You may want to check if you have a wireless Linksys or Cisco router there.

  • Problems connecting to internet with AEBS

Equipment: MacBookPro (OS 10.5.3), AEBS (v.7.2.1), iMac (OS10.5.3)
MacBookPro is about 20+ feet from AEBS, iMac using same AEBS, about 3 feet away. Time Warner cable modem. When I try to connect to internet on MBP, nearly every time it fails and if I do manage to get on it is slower than the slowest dial-up. If I then go into network diagnostics and go through the whole 9 yards of setting it up, I can usually connect but connection is often slow. Needless to say, this is a royal pain since my work requires me to go on line frequently. Am pretty sure the trouble started when we hooked up the iMac, but not 100% certain. Went to see the "genius" who was stymied.
Just did some trouble shooting - switched the locations of the computers and both seem to be working fine and at speed I'd expect given equipment and cable modem. So now I'm thinking there is something about the MBP and its distance from the AEBS, since why both would work fine when we switched their locations?
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks for your time.

Although, I know that you mentioned that you have reset your AirPort, I strongly suggest that you perform a complete power recycle of your network components to see if this will get the modem and your AEBSn communicating properly.
    Please try the following:
o Power-down the modem, AEBSn, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-up the modem. If it has a reset switch, go ahead and perform a modem reset. After the reset, wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the AEBSn; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the computer(s).
Your computer(s) should now be able to access the Internet thru the AEBSn either by wire or wireless. Please post back your results.

  • Problem connecting to internet via Firefox as XUL Runner Error Platform version is not compatible with minVersion 1.9.2.16 max version 1.9.2.16

Firfox requested to update previous version to new version of which i allowed. After installation complete i tried to connect to the internet and was denied with a following error window appearing. As explained above i shall explain again as shown in the error window.
    XULRunner
Error: Platform version " is not compatible with
    minVersion >= 1.9.2.16
    maxVersion<= 1.9.2.16
This will not allow me to connect to the internet as i would like to continue to.
Please restore if possible my previous toolbar and able for me to connect to the internet.
    Thank you.

This issue can happen when the updater wasn't able to update all files in the Firefox program folder.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Problems connecting to internet

    Hi all,
I have recently installed Solaris 10 11/06 x86 and it appears to be running interference with my broadband
router, I'm quite new to Solaris and Unix as a whole so am lost as to how to track and fix this problem
    (if it is fixable).
Please help, Any assistance much appreciated.
    Kenny.

    PC1
Model: HP Workstation xw6000 dual Xeon

OS: Windows XP Pro 2002 SP2 [all security and critical patches installed]
NIC: Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter
    Broadband Router
    Model: Vigor2600V series annex A, Firmware: v2.5.8.3_UK
    Problem:
Solaris interferes with the router stopping all internet connections
    Observations:
The fault seems to be caused by the interactions of the Solaris TCP/IP Stack and the Vigor Router.
Same fault when PC2 had Windows 2003 Server R2 installed.
Same fault when PC2 had Solaris 10 11/06 installed.
The LAN appears unaffected, can SSH to PC1 from PC2 without any side effects.
Every so often can connect to the internet from PC2 for some minutes before connection is lost.
When connection is lost it remains down for some time, ADSL remains online.
When connection is lost no part of the WAN is communicable, no ping, etc...
When disconnecting PC1 from router, within 30-45 seconds everything returns to normal, I do not have to reboot router.
    Notes:
Both PC's have IP addresses set statically, not via DHCP.
The DNS address for both PC's references the router.
Currently I have to physically disconnect the network cable to PC1 or shutdown the Solaris OS in order
to use the internet from PC2.
Even with all this I'm loving Solaris but will have to return to W2K3 Server if this issue cannot be
resolved as it is unworkable, please help.

    Hi again,
I've just discovered that when PC2 stops connecting to the internet, if I ssh to PC1 and wget the same page I was just trying to retrieve from PC2 the transfer begins immediately and PC2 also starts working normally?
    go figure!
anyway I'm just off to read the Developer Forums Code of Conduct, hopefully I haven't posted incorrectly or offended anyone in my haste.
    Kenny.
PS: it can take up to 30 secs for PC2 to begin connecting to the internet again.
So the problem appears now to be interference with the Windows XP machine and not the Router.

  • Problems connecting to internet via bluetooth from...

I am trying to connect to the internet from my Mac PowerBook using my Nokia 5300. The phone pairs nicely and sets up but when I press "Join network on Nokai 5300" which should connect me to the Internet, the computer connects briefly to the phone after which it disconnects and a message saying : Bluetooth network failed. Your device unexpectedly disconnected. Make sure it is turned on and in range." appears. I have tried the same thing with other 5300 phones and this process worked nicely. What could be the problem? Something in settings or maybe something is wrong with my phone?

As I understand it, if you have MacOS X 10.4.9 or later, it just works! It is a Mac after all.
You need to make sure that the phone itself is connected to the appropriate mobile internet account. On my Australian 3 mobile that profile is called "Mobile Internet". Your network provider should be able to help with this. Once that is set you should be able to browse anywhere on the internet with the phone.
Then just pair the phone with the Mac in the usual Bluetooth way. Use bluetooth preferences to check the services available in the phone. You need to see, "PAN Network Access Point" in the list. Your Bluetooth menu bar menu should now contain "Join Network on NameOfYourPhone" Select that and you are connected.
If you check System Preferences -> Network you will see that a new ethernet port has appeared which unfortunately has nothing to show that it belongs to the phone. There will also be a dial up port with the name of the phone.
SNAFUs when I first set this up it dropped out after a few seconds. Like all things computer, a restart on the Mac and turning Bluetooth on the phone on and off a few times solved the problem.
A PAN network access point is like a WiFi access point except it uses Bluetooth and it is simpler.

  • Problems connecting to internet through airport extreme

Hi everyone I am tyring to connect to the internet. I have Charter Digital at the highest speed. When I connect directly through the cable modem using DHCP i can connect to the internet just fine, but when I use the Airport using assing multiple IP addresses i cannot get the internet. When I run diagonostics, Everything works fine up to ISP after that (internet, Server) cannot connect. I've read through the boards and found nothing, so I could really use some help. I have the CAT 5 cable from the modem going to the WAN plug in the Airport.
Thanks for any help you can give

Thank you - some of the materials linked to that may have helped isolate my problem. Unfortunately, nothing's solved it yet. Pinging the Apple IP address gives me: No route to Host, with 100% packet loss on all attempts. I'm using an Airport Express card in a 1GHz G4 eMac running OSX 10.3.9, trying to connect to a Linksys BEFCMUH4 wireless broadband gateway modem/router. As stated above, all 4 ethernet ports are functioning correctly. All initial diagnostics on my end show there's a connection. Further diagnostics and attempts to get online show a lack of a connection but don't give any detail as to where it's encountering difficulty (or, if a traceroute shows something I'm not qualified to decipher it). It's even told me it's unable to configure succesfully. I've made sure the router itself is configured so there is no password necessary (it checks for an automatically logged number from my computer) and it shouldn't be locking me out from there (I hope). I was told running Airport Express with a non-Airport wireless router would be fine, but is it possible I was misinformed? The setup procedures available to help facilitate this all assume there's an Apple AirPort to search for and don't turn up my current router when they scan, leaving me with nothing to select from in that stage of the setup, and thus I cannot proceed. Am I doomed? Are there any gracious, exceedingly capable souls out there with the time and expertise to assist me? I'll be very grateful if someone can get me past this hurdle (I need to go wireless so I can get my air conditioner installed).
