Problem connecting to websites

Hey everybody,
I've recently been experiencing a problem connecting to certain websites. I'll get a "connecting to" or "waiting for" message from my browser but then nothing ever loads and after a few minutes I get a "timed out" error message from the browser.
What's strange is that this doesn't happen with all websites just 20 or 30% of those that I try to connect to. And, it's very consistent in that once this happens with a particular website I can never get a connection to again even if I quit or reset my browser or restart my computer. I say "once this happens" because I've noticed that some sites that I could navigate to a few days ago are now having this problem.
This definitely doesn't seem to be related to the standard Airport problems that we've all been having as I can easily and quickly get other pages to load just seconds after having this problem with a page (plus the signal fluctuation that seems to accompany the standard Airport slow down/connection drop doesn't seem to happen when I have this problem.)
Total mystery. It happens with Safari, Camino, and Firefox and always with the same pages in each. Maybe its software conflict but the only thing I've installed since this started happening is the iPhoto update that came out a while back.
I'm getting close to wiping my disk and reinstalling everything but I thought I'd check in and see if anyone else has experienced this and if there's an easier fix that's known. Thanks.

Thanks for the reply but I don't think its a problem with the servers because I can go to another computer sharing the same internet connection and it can load these pages just fine. Then when I go back to my computer it still can't load the the exact same pages.
Furthermore, these are sites that I had no problem with before a week ago and now, once I have a connection problem with them once I can never get them to load on my computer again. It's definitely not a normal server overload problem.
I'm pretty stumped.

  • How can I get Firefox to connect to websites that are not Google sites?

This evening Firefox would not connect to my homepage (BBC) or anything in my bookmarks I tried. However, It would connect to anything Google (eg maps, mail etc), and run searches, but would not connect to any sites listed as the results of these searches.
I contacted my internet supplier, who ran various tests, including emptying history, cache/cookies and resetting to default values of Firefox. But nothing solved my problem. It was fine this morning and showed no problems of this type before. I have the latest version of Firefox. My machine is Windows XP, I have the latest IE that can still be loaded - that won't even connect to Google to search, (but perhaps it is unable to because it is too old?)
A couple of months back I had the computer cleaned/tuned, they replaced mcafee with Avast, but I had no problems accessing different websites. I still only run the free version of this. I cannot work out how to access its firewall settings.
So the problem seems to be that the only sites I can access at all Google sites via Firefox...and Mozilla. I know Google is kind of ubiquitous but how I can't imagine how settings could suddenly become altered to be so specific!

    Strange problem.
Did you try to start your computer in "safe mode", to see if the problem is still there ?
Who replaced your antivirus and cleaned your computer ? Can they help you ?
For the moment, I see 3 hypothesis :
    - a problem of DNS : do you know what it is and where to check them ?
    - a problem of Firewall : do you know how to manage the settings of your's one ?
    - a problem of security : do you know how to check if there are malwares installed on your computer ? You should do this before any other solutions anyway.
If it doesnt' work, try to install Google Chrome, to see if this browser can go on other websites. If yes, it is time to uninstall/reinstall Firefox.

  • Problems Connecting iPod Touch 32GB to WiFi

    Hi,
I have just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB and am having problems connecting to a server. I am using a Netgear DG834 router to connect to Orange. Netgear is now showing as checked on the Wi-Fi Networks page on the iPod with strong signal strength but I keep cannoy getting the message "could not connect to server" whenever I try any of the applications. Needless to say, the internet connections on my laptop and desktop are working perfectly. Thanks. Grant

Have you tried resetting your router? sometimes this is all you need to do to get the IPT to work properly. If you are using any type of security such as WEP or WPA2 then you are going to need to enter your password. Try a reset and then go to your wifi settings in the IPT and select your router and then click on the little blue arrow and check under DHCP and make sure you have an IP along with a router Ip and DNS entries. If you don't have a router IP or DNS entries try and renew the lease.
If you can't get it to work then reset the router again but this time try it without any security and do the same procedure as above. If that still doesn't work then the only other thing I can suggest is to look on Netgears website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and to give that a try.

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "192.168.1.3

'There was a problem connecting to the server 192.168.1.3 Check the server name or IP address, and then try again. If you continue to have problems, contact your system administrator.'  - How to sort this out so I can connect to my NAS Drive via wifi?
I am running OS X Yosemite all though I had this problem also with the prevues OS.. I can't seem to connect to my NAS Drive any more via wifi at home. I keep on getting this message error. I have tried different things like trashing some of the Library Preferences suggested on other discussions and updated everything I can. I have also re started Finder (as previously that sometime worked) but this no longer a solution.
The server is working fine I can connect to it via remote website. I also I can see the server/drive and even wake it up but that is as far as it goes, soon after it is 'connected/woken up' I get this error messgae and I can't see any of the files etc. Please help, this is extremely annoying, I feel helpless, this is beyond my technical know how..

I have same problem. It started after i replaced my router (which was on 192.168.1.1) to new air port time capsule, which has different IP address. When i start chrome i have to wait half a minute to get this message. Then i click ok and after that everything is working. Until next time you restart the browser. What is happening here?

  • Problem connecting Nokia C3 to home wireless route...

    Good day, Nokia!
I recently bought a Nokia C3-00 WiFi phone but I can't seem to browse my home wireless connection with it. The phone can detect and connect with the wireless network successfully but when I open my mobile browser, it can't load websites, saying "Service not available."
However, I can connect and browse the internet through other WiFi hotspots, just not my home connection. The router I'm using is LP-8616. It's an AP router, if that helps. Unfortunately, there's no firmware upgrade for this router anymore.
I've read all the threads about this problem here and all over the internet but still nothing works for me. Hope you or somebody here could help me to finally solve this problem. More Power!

Allsolution from another post, see /t5/Cseries/C3-wifi-problem-connect-to-wlan-but-internet-not-work/m-p/950115#M14517. Found out how to solve the problem of connecting via WLAN in the following way (the phone was able to connect to the Internet only through the GSM provider network):
Step 1: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Web or Streaming or any other (Just add, needs no other settings)
Step 2: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Default config. settings (choose MyWeb, Personal Settings or the name created at step 1)
Step 3: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal settings (delete the field created in step 1) then go to Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (choose one of the available options)
Now you can open your browser and try to connect. It should ask what method you choose (WLAN or Access Point Preferred)
If your phone does not want to be connected via the GSM provider network, the user can manually enter settings for defining an Access Point (Step 4)
Step 4: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Personal Settings> Add> Access Point (check with GSM provider for account settings)
Step 5: Menu> Settings> Configuration> Preferred access point (select the field you created earlier)
I know that what I wrote above may seem like science fiction for a user who is not accustomed to butoneasca phone and non-stop, but I assure you that the operation should take no longer than 5 minutes.

  • Problem connecting to hosted sharepoint site using hotspot connection with Telstra 3G

I have problems connecting to a hosted sharepoint website using hotspot conection - either the page doesnt load (IE) or I get repeated sharepoint authentication prompts (Firefox). The problem is specific to this hosted site, we can successfully load other webpages, and can access another companes sharepoint extranet using iPhone hotsot connection. I have tried changing the cellular data APN settings on the iPhone from telstra.iph to telstra.internet but this did not solve the problem.

Look at the JSSE examples. You need to setup a key store, add the jsse jars to your classpath, yadda, yadda, yadda....

  • Problems loading certain websites

I am having a problem loading several websites that I know are hosted on the same server. Three of these sites I have created. I am not able to load them using my iMac, iPad, or iPhone. The browser I am using is Safari and Mobile Safari. This issue has started suddenly. If I turn wi-fi off on my iPhone, I am able to load the sites thru the cellular connection. This makes me think the culprit is either my cable modem or my AirPort Extreme. I have had friends visit the sites with no issues.
The sites I am having problems with are...

  • There was a problem connecting to the server "Neptune"; The version of the server you are trying to connect to is not supported. Please contact your system administrator...

I've seen this problem throughout the website, but nothing hits all my bases.
I'm running OS 10.8.4- just upgraded last month.
I work for a company that predominantly uses PC's. I'm in the Graphics Department.
Neptune is a Windows server but houses all our art files. Since the upgrade I have not been able to access the server either by name (which used to work) or by IP address.
I tried doing the suggested "terminal" fix but that did not work.
I must say, mail works. Internet works. Wi-fi works.
    Any other suggestion?

    Hi AppleRocks
Glad you've found a workaround however this is a common problem for people trying to connect via AFP as a registered user to a legacy server.
Whilst connecting via SMB and as a 'guest' should provide a temporary solution some people need to connect via AFP as a registered user to access all of their servers files successfully.
There are several sudo commands and discussions on this subject (Believe me I've read most of them ) but I have found this thread to be the simplest and most effective:
Connecting to legacy AFP services - Apple Support

  • Can't connect to website under OS X but can under XP under OS X...

    Hello,
I am doing some research for a company and I try and connect to a certain website online (lowes.ca). When under OS X (Safari or Firefox) I can never connect to the site. But, when I connect to the site via Windows XP (Internet Explorer) via Parallels, I have no problem connecting.
Anyone have any ideas why I can't connect while trying under OS X?
At first I thought it my be a firewall thing (physical firewall, not OS X version), but the fact that I have no trouble connecting when in XP makes me think otherwise...?
    Regards,
    Kristin.

    Also works fine for me.
The OS manages the TCP/IP connection and (optionally) specifies which DNS servers to use.
Try putting these in System Preferences > Network > TCP/IP > DNS Servers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
