Problem connecting wireless computers

Hi All
I have a WRT54G2 router with two wireless computers connected to a cable modem.
Computer #1  "HOME-PC"  Vista desktop with wireless Linksys usb adapter
Computer #2  "Laptop_PC"  New Laptop with Vista
I hard-wired the laptop to the router for the initial setup of the router, saved and printed all relevant information for logging on wirelessly. I did not venture any deeper into the setup...hoping the defaults will be fine. So as to avoid confusion...lets say I labeled the router as  SSID "My-Router".
I disconnect the hard-wire from the laptop.....I first check local signals on both the desktop and laptop and clearly see
"My-Router" signal
I log on with the laptop and it works fine after entering the password.
When I check the local signal on my Desktop I can clearly see "LapTop-PC"  but no sign of "My-Router".
When I disconnect my Laptop from the router...I connect my Desktop to the "LapTop-PC" signal and I can log on.
Only one can log on at a time and I don't see My-Router signal anymore.
Both will log on if one remained hard-wired, and one is wireless, but I need both wireless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

Try this...Login to the setup page and under Wireless tab, change the channel to 11 and save settings...Now,click on the subtab "Advance Wireless" under Wireless and Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304.......Click on "Save Settings"...It should work for you !!!!

Do a factory reset .. nothing will be deleted from your backups and you will be able to get access to them again.
    The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.

Problem connecting wirelessly from iMac to NETGEAR router, get invalid password message with WPA and WPA-2 encryption in place but if I remove them, so no security, can connect without a problem. Help!!

Thank you for your suggestion but I have already had a couple of phone sessions with NETGEAR support and they don't see any problems with the router settings etc. They referred me to Apple support, who helped me discover that it is possible to communicate with the router but only if I turn off the encryption/security software, which I don't want to do. The frustrating thing is that I can connect wirelessly from a laptop running Windows 7 and two Anroid smart phones, with WPA-2 in place, without a problem. Do you have any other ideas?

  • Having problems connecting wireless?

    Hi All,
I just got my MACBOOK two days ago and having some issues connecting wireless.. I can connect to my LINKSYS wireless router but it seems after about 7 mins of use I can no longer connect to the router. I have reset the router and even changed it but I still seem to have the same issue.
If I use only PC's on my wireless network I don't have any issues.. It seems like the MAC messes up my network and it will not work again unless I take the power out of the router and then modem.
I have used my comp at a friends house connecting to their linksys router without any issues.
    ANY IDEAS?
    THANKS

If you have no problems connecting wirelessly on another network, then I'd look at your router as the probably culprit. Do you have any problems connecting to the router by Ethernet cable? Are your Network preferences configured properly? Have there been any firmware updates released for your router that you have not installed? Have you tried a different router in your home network? For example, try a D-Link DI-524. I've had good success with it. I've never had a really satisfactory experience with LinkSys, but that's my personal experience.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly to the internet WRT54G

I'm having strange issues with my wrt54g router - as long as my computers are plugged into it through ethernet, I have no problem accessing the internet. However, I can't access the internet if I connect to the router using wireless (my computers can connect to the router itself wirelessly, just can't access the internet from it). I've had this router for a little under a year and it used to work fine. Then I stopped using it for a few months, forgot my password and had to hit the reset button when I wanted to set it back up again yesterday. I've tried connecting multiple computers to it wirelessly, including the old one that used to work with it, but none of them can access the internet.
I'm really not sure what could be wrong. Do I need to reinstall the router software that came with the router itself (though I'm not sure how this can help..)? Or is there some button/setting on the router that allows it to access the internet that I could have missed? I checked and wireless is enabled under wireless settings.
I'm running Vista on one computer and XP on another.

Connect the XP computer to the router at Ethernet Port ....
Reset the router for 20-30 seconds ....
Run the Disc for the setup wizard
Let me know if any other problem occurs...

  • Samsung 325W Printer Problem - Connecting wirelessly

    Hi,
I recently bought the above printer and installed it according to the instructions. Everything seems to be fine, but when I haven't used the printer for a day or so, my iMac 'loses' it and I have to reinstall it all again. This is obviously a PITA!
Has anyone had a similar problem with this printer and managed to resole it, please?
I also have a HP multifunction device which is also connected wirelessly and this seems to work without too many issues, although it also disappears occasionally.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Never mind. A reinstall did it!

  • WRV54G - Problems connecting wirelessly with Windows 7

I'm unable to connect wirelessly to router using a HP laptop with windows 7. I have 2 xp laptops that connect without a problem. The HP laptop finds network, but once I click on network to connect, it does not ask for the security code therefore I can not connect to network.

Hi. I think you need to verify your router MAC Filtering. I would suggest to disable it first. Check this link,
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgibin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.phpp_faqid=20600&p_created=125498...
Also, make sure you're using the latest firmware for the router. Don't forget to manage the Profile of the card as stated on the link provided above. Thanks.

  • Having problems connecting 2 computers...

    Hello...
Was wondering if someone can help me. I have an iMac G5 and a Macbook Pro. Just recently I have been having trouble with connecting the 2/ I have no idea what's changed, but now when I click on Network/My Network... Nothing shows. I have tried it with Appletalk on, and Appletalk off as there are conflicting reports regarding appletalk and personal file sharing.
I have both computers connected wirelessly to a BT broadband hub. Which has been fine.
Does anyone have any ideas? Maybe someone could 'talk' me through the settings? It's probably a case of something selected/deselected that shouldn't be, but I've tried everything (as far as I know).
    Any help would be appreciated...
    Thank you.

My Firewall isn't on at the moment... but if I put it on, Personal File sharing isn't listed as an option.
    The options are:
    Adobe Version Cue (selected)
    Apple Remote Desktop (Faded option)
    Network Time (selected)
    iChat Bonjour
    iTunes Music Sharing
    iPhoto Bonjour Sharing
I don't use/need the Remote desktop, I just transfer files every now and then, or connect the 2 computers for a game...
They each have their own IP addresses... so no clash there.

  • Problem Connecting wirelessly to BT Voayger 2500v

    Hi there,
I'm having trouble connecting wirelessly to my BT Voayger 2500v wireless router. I am able to connect to the web with it no worries when it is connected by an Ethernet cable. But I would like to connect to it via Airport. In the Airport menu at the top right of the screen the router appears. I disconnect the Ethernet cable from the computer and select the router from the list and it says it is connected. But when I open up a page in Safari it says that I am not connected to the web. At no point does it ask me for a password. When I try to connect to other available networks in the building (not mine) it does ask for a password which I believe is normal behaviour, but not for my router?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much!
    Regards
    The Mervinator

Mervinator, Welcome to the discussion area!
At no point does it ask me for a password.
Did you enable wireless encryption on your router? If not, it won't ask you for a password.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly to printer

Hi, I used to be able to connect wirelessly to my HP Envy 120, and then for some reason it stopped working from my Macbook - I can still print from my iPad, and my daughter can print from her PC.  Any ideas?

Hello themaven. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Does your client's ISP require that she registers the MAC address of the device that will be connected to their Internet service? If not, then it is possible that the communication between the Internet modem & the Time Capsule (TC) has not been properly established.
    I suggest trying the following:
o Power-down the modem, TC, and computer(s); wait at least 10-15 minutes. Order is not critical.
o Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
o Power-up the TC; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    o Power-up the computer(s).
The computer(s) should now have Internet connectivity from the TC whether they are connected to it by Ethernet or wireless. Please post back your results.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly with home hub 3.

Kodak gave me advice onthis problem. Entered security key in upper case instead of lower and it solved the problem . No help from BT on this.

What john46 says is quite correct, also Kodak would give you NO support for setting up the Home Hub..
Thats not to say you would not have been given help on these forums if you had a problem connecting your printer and if we could not help,at least we might have been able to point you in the right direction.

  • Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw - problems connecting wirelessly to PC

I have just bought a Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw and cannot connect wirelessly to my home network.
The installation goes to 99% and then gives an error message saying it took too long to connect, reboot and try again. Rebooted and tried again many times.
I have downloaded the latest installation prog. with the same result.
I have been able to connect with USB direct and can print, but not by Wi-Fi.
I have been able to connect the printer to my rooter by ethernet cable and can print that way also.
I am running Win 8.1 on a 64bit Lenovo computer.
Please can you advise a solution?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes. It's a bit embarrassing. Eventually, I went back to the instructions, and followed them to the letter for the WIFI setup -  and it worked .
For me, the adage is true - "When all else fails, read the instructions."
    So embarrassing!!!!!
    Hope this helps.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly to router

I am having problems connecting to a router. I know it works because another computer can connect, no problem. It requests a WPA-2 password and the other computer enters an 8-digit code and they connect, no problem. My MacAir reconizes the network (router) but won't accept the same code the other laptop sitting next to me is able to use. The laptop that can get in asked for a "security key." The Mac asks for a password. Not sure if the nuance makes a difference. Has anyone else had issues like this?

    Welcome to Apple DIscussions.
This could be a problem with the router settings as much, or more, than the security settings.  Follow the link if you own/have access to the router setup software.
Help us help you. The more complete the description of your problem is (what MBA you're using - there are many versions going back to '08, what OS you're using -there's a lot of those too, what Application you're using there are many, a full compete description, the text or screen shot of any error messages) the more assistance we can provide, and, the sooner we can provide it.
WFIW many users who have recently upgraded to Mavericks have reported a lot of WIFI problems... connecting, and maintianing connectios are among them, that's why the age and OS of your machine are pertient bits of background that can help find a solution to  your issue.

  • Problems connecting 2 computers to wireless network at the same time

Switched to Mac 2 weeks ago and will never go back!!!!!
Having a slight problem with my home wireless network.. I am running Leopard 10.5.1 and my wife has Vista... For some reason we cannot connect to our wireless network unless one of the other computers is on and connected.. Example: I just opened my Macbook and it showed that I was connected.. However, I could not get any access to the internet without first turning my wifes computer on and connecting.. The same happens when my wife tries to get online.. Her laptop will not connect unless mine is connected first.. It is rather strange.. The last one on the internet is the only one with access unless the other computer is connected.. I am not sure if this is a problem with the router or a compatibility issue with Microsoft and Apple.. If anyone could help it would be highly appreciated as it is quite frustrating that when I want to connect to our network I must connect my wifes computer first.. and vice versa for her.. Can anyone help? We use a Belkin wireless router...

For $50 or so you could get a Linksys WRT54G and not have the headaches. It cannot be an issue with the computers so by default it is the router. Get a better one.
A router will be indifferent to a computer connecting unless it is set to reject them with mac filtering, the password is wrong or there is a limit set to only issue one IP address in which case both would not work. The router cannot know XP from OSX, or a mac from Windows as the standard is 802.11 and TCP/Ip not brand specific.

  • Problem connecting wirelessly to TC with Windows computers

This is not a new problem for me. I connect to my TC with ethernet. I connect with my ibook wirelessly with NO problem. However, I can't connect with an XP machine upstairs (great signal btw) Nor can my daughter connect via her new laptop with Vista (we had words about that purchase). I have my TC set up wep, via N (b g compatible). When we enter the password, all we get is an "connecting" that never connects. It sees the TC just fine, and reports it as wep and N configuration.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Happy to help.
I have an idea. Since you can "see" the wireless network from the PC it may be a password issue. Different companies do not use the same formula, or algorithm to be more more accurate, to generate the actual code when you enter your password.
For example, when you entered your password for the Time Capsule in AirPort Utility, it was converted to a long complex code of numbers and letters using Apple's code generator.
The PC manufacturer is probably not using the same algorithm, so although you are entering your "password" correctly, it is being changed to a different code which the Time Capsule interprets as incorrect and you get the log on error.
Open AirPort Utility to the Wireless page again and click in the area where your password is shown as a series of dots (do not change anything, just click in the box). Now go click on the Base Station menu at the top of the screen and click on Equivalent Network Password. You will probably see a very long code.
I think that this is the code,or password you will need to enter when you are trying to log on with the PC. Give it a try and post back on your findings.
