Problem connection ipod ( disk management issue)

Hello everyone
Ok , i got here an ipod that just came back from apple care and is bug and damage free. SO now , everytime i connect my ipod to my computer , it connects perfectly and shows as a usb mass storage device. Although , neither Itunes nor my computer shows a sign of this hardward connected ( can't even see the disk ) . So i decided to check in my disk management in control panel and there it is ! I found my ipod next to my hard disk but without any drive letter ... so i change the letter to soemthing unused and poof ! my ipod shows on my computer and itunes. ALTHOUGH , evertime i restart my computer or reconnect my ipod , it still doesnt appear and i always have to go back into disk management to assign a letter ( the disk management doenst seems to save changes). So what can i do now ? i mean its fustrating to always have to play in disk management ...
thx in advance

Miserably no , i don't have any usb component plug-in . In fact , iam pretty sure the problem comes from some king of bad configuration from my computer . You see the ipod connects without problem and my computer recognize it immidiatly. Although , it just doenst seem to assign a drive letter to my ipod which makes it unable to be accesed via itunes nor explorer. The thing is , i just need to save a drive letter to my ipod... which will still be there when i reconnect it or restart my computer

  • Disk Utitlity has "Lost Connection" with Disk Management tool"

[ Edited by Apple Discussions Moderator; please start a new topic about your technical issue. ]
    Running OSX10.3.8
    I installed:
    "iTunes" (6.0.2)
    "iPod Updater 2005-11-17" ((null))
    "iChat Update" (2.1)
    Went to repair disk permissions
    I get this error:
Disk Utitlity has "Lost Connection" with Disk Management tool" Please quit Disk Utility.
then it says quitting Disk Utility may render the disk useless. Stopping the scan just gives a "stopped by User" red text message in the DU screen.
Had to Quit. No other way out.
Now it will not repair "or" verify Disk permissions at all.
    What to do?
    Powermac G4 1.25ghz, OS9/OSX   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

Getting the same results booting off of the install CD. I even ran fsck -y after a soft boot(command S). Note I also installed the iPod updater and iChat update.
I'm getting a crash log that has to do with DiskManagement
    Path: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DiskManagement.framework/Resources/DiskManage mentTool
I tossed the pref file for Disk utility and tried to locate a pref for the Disk Management but nada...
Is there a prefs file that needs to be tossed?
Anyone do a recent Onyx Maintainence cleaning?
Is there a way to do an iTunes Uninstal and reinstall a previous version?

  • 'Disk Utility has lost connection with Disk Management Tool' w/ RAID 10 set

Using 4 internal drives, I have specified the following setup for each:
2 partitions, 1 'speed' of 5 GB and 1 'data' of whatever remains.
The 4 speed partitions stripe to a single RAID volume correctly.
The 4 data partitions are used to make a RAID 10 volume as follows:
The first 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-A'
The next 2 data partitions are mirrored to make a 'data-B'
    These complete correctly.
Upon attempting to strip data-A and data-B in order to finish the RAID 10 setup, Disk Utility quits with the following message:
"Disk Utility has lost connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility'.
A search here and on the nets reveals only that this message appeared in 10.3.x when attempting to repair disk permissions and had to do with a rogue iTunes support file. This is occurring on a blank system (no iTunes installed) so I don't think its the same cause.
Note that I was able to complete this setup under Tiger several times without issue, so it seems to be unique to Leopard. Does anyone know what is going on and hopefully suggest a workaround?

To answer my own issue and leave a marker here for others, I was able to successfully set up a RAID 10 partition using diskutil, indicating that the problem is Disk Utility itself and not the RAID implementation.
Disk Utility has proven itself to be bugridden (must restart frequently to get updated view of volumes; drops device names at various times; etc.) and this latest bug would seem to suggest that it should be avoided in favor of diskutil for any serious RAID construction.

  • Problems Connecting iPod Touch 32GB to WiFi

    Hi,
I have just purchased an iPod Touch 32GB and am having problems connecting to a server. I am using a Netgear DG834 router to connect to Orange. Netgear is now showing as checked on the Wi-Fi Networks page on the iPod with strong signal strength but I keep cannoy getting the message "could not connect to server" whenever I try any of the applications. Needless to say, the internet connections on my laptop and desktop are working perfectly. Thanks. Grant

Have you tried resetting your router? sometimes this is all you need to do to get the IPT to work properly. If you are using any type of security such as WEP or WPA2 then you are going to need to enter your password. Try a reset and then go to your wifi settings in the IPT and select your router and then click on the little blue arrow and check under DHCP and make sure you have an IP along with a router Ip and DNS entries. If you don't have a router IP or DNS entries try and renew the lease.
If you can't get it to work then reset the router again but this time try it without any security and do the same procedure as above. If that still doesn't work then the only other thing I can suggest is to look on Netgears website and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and to give that a try.

    Hi All,
Please find the procedure to activate the control service platform.
    Error:
RTC – 5301: The control service is not currently available.
    Solution:
    1.     Go to the path, where your OWB 10g R2 installed and open the below batch file in notepad or textpad.
    <OWB_HOME>\owb\bin\win32\run_service.bat
    2.     In that text file, please change the below line
    Original Script:
    %JAVAPATH%\jre\bin\javaw.exe %JVM_OPTIONS% -DORACLE_HOME="%RTHOME%" -DOCM_HOME="%RTHOME%" -DOCM_ORACLE_HOME="%RTHOME%" -classpath %RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\;%RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\launcher.jar -DOWB_HOME=%OWB_HOME% -DJDK_HOME=%JDK_HOME% -DORA_HOME=%ORA_HOME% -DOEM_HOME=%OEM_HOME% -DIAS_HOME=%IAS_HOME% Launcher %RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\owb.classpath oracle.wh.runtime.platform.service.Service %STARTUP_TYPE% %NODEID% %RTUSER% %HOST% %PORT% %SERVICE%
Add this text -Duser.timezone="+02:00" as shown below:
    %JAVAPATH%\jre\bin\javaw.exe %JVM_OPTIONS% -DORACLE_HOME="%RTHOME%" -Duser.timezone="+02:00" -DOCM_HOME="%RTHOME%" -DOCM_ORACLE_HOME="%RTHOME%" -classpath %RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\;%RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\launcher.jar -DOWB_HOME=%OWB_HOME% -DJDK_HOME=%JDK_HOME% -DORA_HOME=%ORA_HOME% -DOEM_HOME=%OEM_HOME% -DIAS_HOME=%IAS_HOME% Launcher %RTHOME%\owb\bin\admin\owb.classpath oracle.wh.runtime.platform.service.Service %STARTUP_TYPE% %NODEID% %RTUSER% %HOST% %PORT% %SERVICE%
(In the above line, please mention space, double quotes and other things carefully)
    3.     Save the file run_service.bat.
    4.     Open the sqlplus and login using OWB repository OWNER name and password (not user name / password).
    5.     Then, execute the below scripts
    SQL> @<OWB_HOME>\owb\rtp\sql\stop_service.sql
    SQL> @<OWB_HOME>\owb\rtp\sql\start_service.sql
Now, you successfully enabled the control service platform.
Now, go to OWB and deploy the objects.
    Thanks,
    Prabhu Kasinathan.

  • Problems connecting iPod touch to windows vista ad-hoc connection

    Hi,
This problem has been troubling me since i got my iPod Touch(2nd Gen)
I do not have a wi-fi router, rather i make a ad-hoc connection on my laptop(vista) and share the internet with this wireless ad-hoc connection. I then turn on the wifi on my ipod, which obidiently detects the ad-hoc connection, and after entering the password(WEP) connects to the network(i even get that signal bar indicator on the ipod). But when i try to open a website,it says "Safari cannot open the webpage as it is not connected to the internet". This is really frustrating. I've searched like a zillion places but not able to find the solution to the problem.
All the setting are automatic(DHCP) which includes my wired internet, my wireless network and my ipod settings.
    Plz help guyz.
    Thanks,
    Aditya

    sorry my bad english

Imported the RM certificate by using the keytool utility to OIM .xlkeystore
    started remote manger.
could not connect through design console by double-click Remote Manager. (No Remote Manager Currently running)
Then copied the oim Certificate (OIM_HOME/xellerate/config/xlserver.cert file) to RM machine and imported the certificate
to RM .xlkeystore and tried again...still could not connect

  • Problem connecting ipod with dvd

Hi. I have an ipod nano. Before installing software version 1.2 I could connect it with my dvd via usb and manage it as a external disk, but after installing ipod software version 1.2 my dvd does not recognize ipod when I connect it via usb. I also have an ipod video with the same software and have the same problem. Anyone could help me?.
    Thanks.

If you have a new enough iPod, they are now requiring an apple adapter that has the apple computer chip in it to work. I did a general search on the web and came up with better info than here.

  • FYI - all of us with problems connecting ipod to windows

A bit of information for all of us that their ipods have stopped being recognised by windows!
I have done the 5 r's 4 times, reinstalled all drivers on windows etc etc ... still not being recognised!!
I have just called Apple Tech support and when I told them the date it stopped working and all the steps Ihave carried out, guess what .. they said send it back as there may be a technical problem with the hard drive on the ipod!!
Thought i'd let you all know!!

    Hey everyone
I have been fighting with this problem all night and have eventually solved the problem. The 5 R's sort of works but here is the solution. The problem rests with the latest version of the iPod updater software AND Microsoft's new Windows Defender as well which seem to have had an adverse effect on the software and iPod and how it behaves.
If you are having problems getting the iPod to be recognised on Windows follow the following guidance to uninstall iTunes completely
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
You need to start with a blank sheet and get rid of iTunes and clean up all previous installs of it. Make sure you also remove the iPod for Windows software too. Download the LATEST version of iTunes from the Apple web site (I think its 6.0.3) and install it on your machine.
Then, with the CD that came with your 5th Gen iPod install the iPod for Windows software that came on it. Don't worry about what version of iPod software you have on the iPod - it is fine - you can have up to 26-01-06 version which is what I have.
Connect up your iPod - Windows probably still wont recognise it. Don't worry here is the added solution and what the problem is.
The iPod has somehow become disabled in the Hardware profiles on Windows by the recent updates. Let the iPod be connected to your PC for at least 15 secs.
    1. Go to My Computer icon on the desktop and right mouse click - go to Properties.
    2. On the System Properties window that comes up click on the Hardward Tab.
    3. Go to the Device Manager button and click it.
    4. Under the listing that comes up do to Disk Drives. Click on the + icon to expand the list. You will now see Apple iPod listed (NB If you have any other external hard drives normally connected to your PC disconnect them beforehand so the drive letter that will be assigned to the iPod is E: - after this problem is fixed you can reattach any external drives fine)
    5. You should find that the Apple iPod drive is disabled (has a red cross over it)
    6. To enable it, right mouse click on its icon and select, enable.
    7. This will cause the iPod to be recognised by Windows and then iTunes should start up as normal.
FOR THOSE WHO DONT SEE THE IPOD IN THE HARD DRIVE LIST:
    1. Go to Add New Hardware and the plug and play properties should find the iPod and add it with the relevant hard drive drivers.
    Hope this helps everyone!

  • Problems connecting ipod to itunes

    Hi,
just bought a new ipod touch, and i downloaded the itunes from the website, itunes 7.
but it doesn't seem to want to connect to my ipod,
the message that keeps coming up is:
"this ipod cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install itunes again"
I have done this several times but i still keep getting the same problem, any ideas?

"She also told me that if that didn't work, that I should get a PCI card with USB 2.0. They have a list of recommended brands (tend to work with iPods?) here, so I ran to a local store and picked up a SIIG brand card (this exact model), and it works great."
So, because of a fault of Apple, YOU had to buy more stuff for your computer to make THEIR product work? Id see about trying to get Apple to foot the bill of that. I would have told the tech support gal, to tell her superiors to stick their Nano where it wont play again. Why is Apple not aknowledging this problem? Ive been loyal to Ipods since the old shuffle hit the shelves. It served me well until this year when it fell outta my pocket and sat through a weekend of ice and snow on our driveway. I have half a mind to return this bugged up mess and ebay me a new (well old) shuffle. This is rediculas! At least I got some songs on it once, its not completely useless...yet... I am NOT buying new USB ports for my computer when every single USB device I have works just darn fine in the ones I have on my computer now.

  • Problems Connecting Ipod To Windows

Just been having some trouble with the iPod.
Has been working fine up until just now.
Plug it in and I get a little bubble in the corner saying "The USB device is not recognised and has malfunctioned" or something along those lines. Strange I thinks, so I unplug it from under the ipod and try again. Same problem. I try it in a different USB socket and it works fine. Back to the USB port with the problems and I get the message again. Unplug it and plug a USB mouse into problem USB port, it works fine. Plug the ipod back in and get the message about defice malfunctioning again. Plug ipod into the other USB socket I tried when it worked fine, and I get the malfunction message again. Try it back in the problem port and it still has the problem.
Any ideas guys? It was working fine up until just now!
    Tom
P.S. Have tried different cables and a reboot.
Have latest iTunes and latest Ipod software and had been working fine with these up until just recently.

I've got windows Vista, and I can't remember if I needed to install a driver for the iPod?
If you did have install a driver, un-install that driver and re-install it. It sounds to me as though it is a driver fault, corrupt maybe. I KNOW Windows reckons it doesn't need drivers, but then when is Windows right? It's Microsoft for chrissakes lol.
You could try looking in device manager when you plug it in. If it shows up as a fault with the explanation mark, just "Unistall this device" and try again.

  • Problem connecting ipod touch to iTunes

    Hi,
First of all sorry for my bad english.
I have an Ipod Touch and i have a problem with connection the ipod to my computer. When i connect the ipod to my computer, itunes start's up but gives an error "iTunes cannot connect to the iphone caused by an unknown error (0xE8000065)" (it's written in dutch so its difficult to translate). I have done EVERYTHING. Remove iTunes, Apple update, Apple mobile device support. Reinstall iTunes newest version 8.1.1, after the reinstalation it works FINE but only the first time. When i disconnect the Ipod the same problem is back.. When i connect it to an other Pc it works fantastic and for more then just the first time (it keeps working). On the other PC i restored the Iphone with the shift button and in recovery mode. I used an other cable, other USB ports (nothing helps). Restarted Ipod service ... All i've readed i did.
Now my question is : I know its not the Ipod, but is it possible that it is a fold or is there a fix ? Because when i reinstall everything it works but only for 1 time after that the fold keeps on coming back

My friends were having trouble with this on an XP windows PC, they tried everything but install xp service pack 3, doing so after calling apple tech support on 1300 321 456 (australia).
I left before they downloaded it, though it didn't work for flash drives (?) - new 1 week old ipod touch (version 2.?) and my iphone (version 3.0), although my Ipod nano (version 1.1.3) connected just fine.
It was coming up as a message saying about a bad connection to an iphone when the ipod touch was connected too!
I read something that seems possible only during the very first connection attempt, being a is connection is made. My friends swear they were able to transfer music to the new ipod touch connected up to the computer, not sure exactly what process, although after disconnecting the ipod touch is no longer recognised by the software properly.
I'd rule out its a plug & charge cable (unless its damaged), you'll probably need the latest itunes and be running a PC with windows XP service pack 3.

  • Problems connecting external disk to my Thomson router

When i connect my external disk to my Thomson router the Mountain Lion can't access to it inside my home wireless network. With the app muCommander i can access it by writing the IP address but in Finder i can't access it. Any ideas?

I apologize if this is answered elsewhere, but I
could not navigate through to the right thread.
I've just bought a Maxtor One Touch III for Macintosh
(500gb). Having connected it to my Airport Extreme I
can see the disk in Disk Utility.
    [portions omitted] .
What am I doing wrong? Please help
I am using the 750GB Maxton OneTouch III with the extreme software 7.1 with absolutely no problem. This is one of the drives that actually gets recognized even after power down - power up.

  • How to Fix"Disk Utility has "lost connection" with Disk management tool

Brian Z posted a work around for this problem on 1/2006 but the link no longer works. "this thread does not exist anymore".
Please repost the solution, I have a couple of macs that are suffering from this problem.

I know this sounds silly but when I open
    \library\Receipts and drag the iTunes.pkg,
    iTunes3.pkg, and iTunes4.pkg, to my desktop, I
thought I was just moving them...however they still
stay in the receipts folder ...what am I doing wrong
Somehow they're getting copied instead of moved. Do you get a green bubble with a "+" inside it when you drag the receipts? That would mean they're being copied instead of moved. Are you somehow moving them to another disk perhaps?
If you copy it to the "Desktop" icon in your Finder sidebar, that should move it without copying:
(Note that you'll have a different icon for the file, I used a Zip archive, yours will be the golden packaged icon).

  • Problem connecting iPod after iTunes upgrade to 6.0.1.3

After upgrade to latest iTunes when connecting my iPod it shows up as MAXTOR not the name of my iPod. When I click on MAXTOR I cannot see the songs.

    well done Lorraine!
I had my digital camera plugged in to download some pictures yesterday and it defaults to the same drive letter as the iPod.
you know, i'm constantly terrified that that will happen to
    b me
... not entirely sure why it tends to hit other people when it doesn't hit me (given that this is actually to do with a "feature" of windows rather than bugs on any particular system).
