Itunes starts contacting server for iphone software updates. Waited for one hour, but nothing happens.
I´ve tried several times, but no luck
Any ideas?

Ok, after days of browsing on the forum I found the following hint on another discussion related to AFP access:
"This may be a service ACL issue.
It turns out one of the latest Apple updates turned on Service ACL's which caused AFP connections to be blocked. Once I fixed the Service ACL in Server Admin... all connections and Single Sign On worked."
Well, after allowing access to all services to all users with Server Admin, we were finally able to log in the server with our admin account...
So, there must have been an update that turned on ACL's which caused even our local access, probably for OD/Kerberos, on the server to be restricted.

Outlook clients get "Contacting the server for information"

I've recently setup a new production Exchange 2010 Enterprise Edition server running on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise. Everything is working fine except for user's are getting a pop up in Outlook 2010 that says "contacting the server for information" when fowarding messages with imbedded html. Outlook 2007 user's don't get the pop-up, but it still takes a long time for the message to send. After they click the send button, it just sits on thier screen for about 20 seconds. All other email messages are fine. The messages are small, even a 26kb message will do this. Has anyone seen this before, or have any ideas about what needs to be changed for the messages to be sent out at an acceptable time. All users are configured for cached mode in Outlook and this happens for user's on the same LAN as the server and for user's on a different LAN. At this point, we only have 10 or so user's on the server, but are getting ready to migrate several hundred over.

If you test the issue in OWA, will it still take a long time to send? If you use online mode in Outlook, can you reproduce the issue?
The information you mentioned is "Outlook is retrieving data from the Microsoft Exchange server" right? If so, please refer to the suggestions in the following thread:

I also suggest you install latest patch of Exchange 2010 and test the issue, Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2010 (KB979611):

"Contacting the server for information. Press ESC to cancel." in Excel when opening

I havea user that when she open an Excel file that is older format 97-2003 it just says "Contacting the server for information. Press ESC to cancel." in the status bar then it hangs. If she press esc about 20 times she get to see the
document but then Excel just hangs and is unresponsive. I dont know if the documents have some connection to template but the user says they dont. Is there any way to disable this behavior ?
I have searched everywhere for a solution but everything is about Word or Outlook and none of those can be applied to Excel.

We had the same issue, however counting for all Office applications including Access.
Thus, something told me this couldn't be application specific, which ruled out the dozens of suggestions you can browse to solve this issue, including removing of printer drivers, Share Point access (we have no SP running), plug-ins, malformed normal.dot,
wrong Registry entries, etc. Antivirus and firewall had also temporarily been disabled with no change.
Also, network shares were marked as "safe" and included as trusted locations.
What pointed to the solution was this:
1. When a trusted location was added in, say, Word, the path, say, T:\Documents was automatically changed to the shared path of our DFS file servers:
\\ourdomain.local\data\department\data\document
2. When I logged in with my Domain Admin account, the issue did not exist.
Thus, it had to do with permissions.
Users had full rights to the network share, here T:\Documents.
They also had read/write rights to the DFS _share_. However, they had no Active Directory rights to the root of DFS, \\ourdomain.local
Adding Domain Users with browse and read rights to
\\ourdomain.local solved the issue at once.

How to calculate the compliance for an software update deployment

I am trying to find as how do we calculate the compliance for an software update deployment.
Scenario, We have about 4000 machine in the domain. but we have some stale records in the domain which is about 1200. The AD cleanup for the stale records is planned for sometime in March.
So total number of machines in a collection (including the stale machines) are 5200.
The current compliance of that deployment shows the following status:
Complaint : 1156
In Progress : 1724
Error : 38
Unknown : 2462
And in the unknown, we have :
Client check failed/Active: 2
Client check failed/Inactive: 6
Client check passed/Active: 732
Client check passed/Inactive: 1722
Can you please suggest in understanding the formula that should be followed to get the compliance.

Your Compliancy, should be based solely off of the number of computers within CM12.
There are no “if”, “and” or “but” able it. This is the only way to truly and reliably provide numbers to management.
Again it should be very simple calculation:
(Total outstanding Security SU, Total outstanding
Critical SU, Total outstand Service packs, Total outstand Update Rollups, Total outstand Updates, Total outstand Definition Updates, Total outstand tools, Total outstand Feature packs) Vs Total applied SU (all Classifications)
Or
Total # of 100% patched PCs vs Total # of PCs as seen by CM12.
If you use any other calculation then you MUST include a disclaimer that you are filtering out computers because they might be invalid. Or you MUST define exactly how you are calculating the number. Therefore any compliancy rate that your calculate maybe
invalid too or at least it will change once you clean up AD.
I will never hide low compliancy numbers to management, I will always show it to them.
In many case I will ask to give a presentation to Management to explain why the numbers are so low.
Provide them with a list of action items that need to be done in order to bring up the number to more reasonable level. I also set their expectation on what a reasonable level is.
100% is unachievable; there is no exception to this!
95-99% Very excellent but expect to spend lots of $$$s to obtain these percentages.
90-95% is really, really, good; expect to spend $$s in this range.
85-89% is good; expect to set strict procedures
81-84 is ok but you could do better
Below 80% is bad
In your case, I would start by saying AD is dirty and need to be clean up, this has been schedule for March 2015. I would follow up this to say, in order to keep AD clean the follow procedures need to be define / updated / followed. You should also define
exactly what you are doing to ensure that all computers are management by CM12.
IMO these is no simple answer of this.

Problem with the 4.3.2 software update?

I have a 32GB Ipod touch and recently I have been having what seems to be software problems. I can't use apps without the Ipod skipping back to the main screen, or the recently used apps list popping up from the bottom of the screen. When left on the side it is constantly turning itself on and off which is wasting the battery. At first I just tried getting on with it however am now becoming more and more frustrated, especially when playing games as I get anywhere between 5-60 seconds gameplay before the app shuts down and I'm again faced with the homescreen. I tried turning it on and off, then tried restoring it however I'm still having the problem. Anyone else having the same problem or anyone know how to resolve it? any help would be appreciated as I feel going to the Apple shop could potentially hurt my wallet.

You might be correct on that. One of the people I support had just gone up to 4.3.2 on her iPod Touch and it's doing the exact same thing. I did a full wipe and restored everything it and the battery level went from 50% down to 20% in minutes. It also started taking me back to the main screen while I was in the Settings screen.
I then wiped it again (battery level was back to showing 50%), only this time I set it up as a new device. I configured the Exchange email on it and I could sworn I saw the battery level jump up touch without it being plugged in. I should know by Monday if it's back to normal but I have feeling this is a bug in the OS.
I'm planning on upgrading my iPad tonight but I'm probably going to hold off on my iPhone.

I cannot install itunes 10.5 on my XP laptop, the error says that it cannot create the folder for apple software update as it already exists but there is no sign of the folder, any new ideas?

I was finally able to install this POS.
Here is what I did:
I tried to install an even older version than 1.5
I went to filehippo.com and downloaded the oldest version I could find there which was the version 1.0.7

Thank God that old version installed on my computer.
After that the installation of current version (2.5) of this POS worked as well.

Were you definitely connected to the internet at the time? If you don't have iOS 5 on your iPhone then the only way to update it would be via iTunes, once updated to the latest version of iOS you'll be able to update your iPhone without connecting to iTunes "over-the-air".
Before updating however it goes without saying to Backup your iPhone, this should happen by default upon connecting your iPhone to iTunes.

- Powering off and then back on your router.

- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

OpenDNS IP Addresses
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem
