  • Photoshop cc is turning my raw files into jpg after editing

photoshop is turning my raw files into jpg after editing with out flatten the layers instead of psd files. when I go to save they are jpg. This started 2 days ago - no problems before that

How are you doing the save?  Just choosing File - Save?
Photoshop remembers the last "master file" format you saved something in.  If the current document is capable of being saved in that format, it will default to that format for the next save.
What happens if you do the following:
    1.  Open your raw file, and edit it.
    2.  File - Save As, and in the Save as type field choose Photoshop (*.PSD;*.PDD).
    3.  Complete the save operation.
I'm betting that will result in your having saved a PSD format file.
In summary, change your habit to use File - Save As to save your master document and you can't go wrong.

  • Converting raw images into .jpgs.

I took some pictures with my Canon 5D, using the camera's raw format. They turned out to be about 14MB. However, when I converted them to .jpgs, using Photoshop CC, they were only about 4MB. I needed to have .jpgs about 10 MB. How do I do that? I made them the highest quality, etc. I still could only get about 4MB in size. Do I have to lose all that data just by converting them to .jpg? Thank you for any help!

file size in MB is a very poor criterion for judging image quality because reduction in file size is very dependent upon the original image content.
Compare a complex multicolored photo converted to .jpg with an image (same original size) filled with pure white or gray or black; then compare the .jpg sizes.
As indicated above, use .tif or other uncompressed (lossless) file format to retain image quality....use .png if image needs to keep transparency.
Consider using camera settings to produce both raw and .jpg images from same shot (too late for images already shot) and compare/use whichever suits your needs best.
There are many (many free) progs to convert various raw formats to .jpg; some better than others, all results will be at least slightly different.

  • IPhoto has turned all my RAW files into JPG :(

When I had to restore my iPhoto library, everything but the last import is now a jpeg. There are a few pictures that are now giving me an "!" when I try to edit them. Does iPhoto effectively destroy your photos when you restore them from a backup, or even editing them?
I have changed Image Capture to put the files into a folder now, but what do I need to get to get iPhoto from messing up my files?

    Two possibilities here:
    1. You didn’t make a proper back up
    or
    2. You didn't make a proper restore.
Without knowing what you did in either case we have no way of knowing where you messed up.
Using Time Machine through a wireless connection. Tell me where I went wrong in setting this up.
There are a few pictures that are now giving me an "!" when I try to edit them.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents. Again suggests that you either messed up the back up or the restore.
Again, using TimeMachine for backup and restore.
Does iPhoto effectively destroy your photos when you restore them from a backup, or even editing them?
iPhoto does not "effectively destroy your photos" in any circumstance.
When you import a photo to iPhoto that Original file is preserved exactly as it was when you imported it. It is not changed in any way. Edits are carried put on copies. So, as I say above, you need to clarify what you did to back up and restore to discover where you've gone wrong.
but what do I need to get to get iPhoto from messing up my files?
iPhoto doesn't. You need to learn how to use it?
Been using it for years, never had a problem with it until now. Do you have classes that you teach on the proper way to use iPhoto?

  • RAW file into jpg image

I am exploring the wonderful world of RAW photography processing. I have come across an issue that I cannot find an answer to. After doing all the image adjustments, how do I save it as a jpg file? The only option I see is to save it as a dng file or to open it in PSE10 editor. But then what? I have tried to "safe as" from Editor but it does not give me a jpg option.

Thanks to each of you for your comments.
juergen, I had noticed that setting but did not know I needed to change it. Thanks.
photodrawken, I need jpg because I am a member of several sites that specifically call for jpg images. I also share my pictures with extended family who cannot use RAW or PSE files. They could use png files but they would face the same issue when they go to upload them. They do not have software to change them to jpg.
dj, I have enough memory (for now at least) that I can save both. I will not be changing all of them but when I need, it is good to know how to do it.
    Again, thank you,
    Jim

  • Problems converting / importing PSE9 catalog into LR4

Im having problems converting / importing my PSE 9 photos into LR4.  I went through the "File / Upgrade PS..." without success.  It seems to work...ie LR4 closes down and then creates a new catalog but then a box appears saying that the photos could not be imported because they are missing or damaged.  I then thought that my PSE 9 catalog is not set up right BUT LR4 tell me that the 27023 photos could not be imported for the reason stated.  In other words LR does see the PSE catalog because it give the correct amount of photo's.  I then did a small test by dragging some photos from my PSE 9 into LR4 and that seems to work.  All the keyword tags move across. Is there a problem or dont I understand the process?

If I remember properly, it will not be an onerous task. What Exiftool will do is transfer the notes to some other metadata field that LR uses ... and I believe it can be done as a batch job, thus one execution of Exiftool does this for your entire photo collection (assuming its all under one parent folder).
Here is the method (see post #12 in this thread): http://forums.adobe.com/message/2148552#2148552

  • How to convert RAW into jpgs?

I used to use Capture One by Phase One to process my RAW images into jpgs, when I had WinXP on my pc. With my new computer, it has the new 64 bit, with Win Vista. Now, using Capture One is a total joke. You can't possibly get anything done.
How can I use Photoshop CS4 to process RAW images into jpgs? I don't see a way that I can apply changes on one image, to others in a particular group. With Capture One when it was good on WinXP, I could make changes to one, lighten/brighten, sharpen, change the color temp, etc., apply it to all the desired images, then click to output a certain size, say 5x7 at 200 ppi, hit the button, and it would do it. I don't see that I can do any of that in Photoshop, short of using the ever-annoying set and action, then automate.
Also, for professional work, where I'm processing hundreds of images at a time, is there other software I should look at, like Lightroom, Gimp, etc.?

Use Bridge and Camera Raw:  Navigate Bridge to the folder with your raw files.  In Bridge, select/highlight the images you wish to process and save, then Open in Camera Raw (File > Open in Camera Raw, or Ctrl-R, or right click and Open in Camera Raw from context menu). Your selected raw images will open in camera raw in Filmstrip view.  Make any desired camera raw adjustments then, still in camera raw, do Select All then at bottom Save Images...  which will bring up a save options box in which you can choose jpegs or tff, where to save, and other options.

There are several ways to make changes to one image in camera raw then apply the changes to other raw image files.  In camera raw filmstrip mode, select the images you want to apply an adjustment to then apply the adjustment to the first of those images and it will be applied to all the others that are selected.  Or apply adjustments to the first image of a series then add additional selections and use camera raw's Synchronize.  Or, make adjustments to first image in series then click done, which will return you to Bridge.  In Bridge, select the image you want to copy camera raw adjustments from then Develop Settings > Copy Settings.  Select all the target images that you want to receive these settings then Develop Settings > Copy Settings.  Both Copy settings and ACR's Synchronize will bring up a selection box where you can check which settings you want to copy.
You can select save ppi in camera raw.  You can use Camera Raw's crop function can get files to a desired aspect ratio if they are not already there.  Crop can be copied to other files via Synchronize or Develop settings - Copy if that is useful.  Getting a specific size in pixel dimensions may take another step.  Camera Raw offers a limited set of file sizes (in its Workflow Options).  If you want other than these, then one methodis to save images from Bridge using Photoshop's image processor.  After making camera raw adjustments and returning to Bridge, select desired raw images then Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor...  Set size and output options in the image processor.

  • Coverting Raw images to JPG

I'm wondering if someone knows how to convert the raw images into jpg, but still keep the RAW images. I need to use the jpg images for iWeb so the website can load up a lot quicker.
    Thanks

    Shiftyoz:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't use RAW but I believe iPhoto creates a jpg for viewing and editing (the RAW file is left untouched). So if you export the file to the desktop via the File->Export->File Export menu option you'll be able to select the file format and a reduced size (if desired).
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • How do you convert to Adobe Camera Raw in batch?

I shoot photos with my Olympus e500 in raw. Then I bring them into the organizer. Then I laboriously load the pictures one by one into the ACR converter to convert my olympus raw files into compressed adobe dng files.
Is there a way of doing this in batch?
Is there any reason not to compress the dng files (it sure saves a lot of space).
    Andy

The fastest way to batch DNG is to go to the downloads section of this site and get the latest version of the ACR plug-in (for PS or PE). You'll find that includes a standalone DNG converter (you can discard the ACR plug-in part of the download if you're already up to date). Just drop a folder of RAW files on the DNG converter to batch convert them.

  • Problems pulling RAW files into Photoshop.

I use Photoshop CS3.  When I pull my RAW files into it I lose a lot of information.  For example I took a picture of my black dog.   I set the camera (Canon 40d) to save the file and both RAW and high res JPG.  When I pull both files directly into photoshop the JPG has more detail information in the highlights and shadows than the JPG file does.  This should be the reverse.  To see if the problem was in the file or in the process of pulling it into photoshop I also pulled it in through Lightroom.  And I used Zoom Browser (software that came with my camera).  Zoom Browser forced me to convert to a TIFF before importing it to Photoshop.  I'll try attaching a file I made that shows the results of each.
My conclusion is that there is not a problem with the CR2 file, since the CR2 file converted to the TIFF has the most detail, but something is happening when I import it into photoshop.  I just don't know what settings I should be looking at to fix this problem.  Any help would be appreciated.
Here's a link to the example:

    Thanks

Sorry, you did state the camera model and ACR 4.6 is fine for it . Nothing wrong there!
Without wishing to dodge the isssue, I suggest you take it to the ACR forum where the real experts on that aspect of Photoshop are.

  • Last wish, preset converting RAW into JPG with more contrast, saturation & sharpening

A close family member is dying and she has still many RAW files, which of course look slightly lifeless as all RAW files do. She asked me to look for a simple Lightroom preset which will convert her RAWs into Jpgs with more contrast, saturation and sharpening. She has Lightroom 3, but has no experience in making presets and neither do I. She needs the preset to make the RAW files as Jpgs available to her partner & children. No fancy effects; just simple. She cannot work on her computer anymore. Can you help me with a concrete preset or if not can you make one for her?

  • Converting raw files into tiffs and preserving the orig. date created

How do I get the original date created to show up in folders when converting raw files into tiffs?  Once converted the original date created is in the "file info" window but does not show up as the original date created in the designated folder.  It is displayed as the same date as date modified.

    Thanks Mylenium
As Mylenium has said, this information can be added later by various means. It will also depend on the software you are using on what date it is reading!
    As an example there are:
    The files date created
    Photoshop schema DateCreated
    EXIF schema DateTimeOriginal
    XMP schema CreateDate
For an external tool you can use ExifTool http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/
or you could try to get a script written in the Photoshop or Bridge scripting forums.
